SCXI-1001 possible overheatin​g

    I'm using an SCXI-1001 chassis to aquire analog signals and provide output for controls.  The system had been working perfectly for weeks until, in a recent test, all the input signals were suddenly recorded as zero.  Here are the exact symptoms of the problem:
-only occurs after at least 24 hours of continuous operation
-all analog input signals are recorded as zero; LabView still recognizes that the device is present so no error is generated
-output (switches in an SCXI-1324) is completely functional
-problem can be corrected temporarily by turning the chassis off and on again, but returns within five minutes (give or take 30 seconds)
I am confident that this is not a software issue.  The long onset leads me to believe that it is an overheating problem, but the chassis does not have any noticeable hot stops. 
Any ideas?

Based on your post it does sound like it is unlikely that it is a software issue but it would be rule it out completely. I am curious to know the environment that your chassis is in. Mainly is there sufficient airflow around the chassis. Also are the fans in working order and the filters clean? Do you have another chassis that you could use to test if this is a hardware failure of caused by the environment. I hope this helps you troubleshoot a little farther please let us know the results.

    Check the part number physically printed on the cable. Look for a number such as 183432-0x or 776574-49x. These numbers will usually follow a printed 'National Instruments' on the cable. It is possible that the cables you have are correct, but if they are black, there is a good chance they are digital cables. The part number will verify this. You can also compare the part number yourself to the ones listed online.
    If we determine that you do have the correct cables, make sure you also check the integrity of your pins. A slightly bent pin is very often the cause of the problem you are experiencing. If you notice any pins that are bent, try straightening them out with a screwdriver.
    If we determine that neither of these possibilitie
    s is the source of your problem, we will look into further.

  • SCXI 1001, SCXI-1102 and SCXI-1303 not working correctly with DAQmx

    I have recently upgraded from Labview 6.5 to Labview 8.2 and now my SCXI 1001 with a SCXI 1102 and SCXI 1303 terminal block no longer reads the correct voltage.  Using the old version of labview thermocouple measurements are correct at 0.5mV; however using the new version of labview and DAQmx the thermocouples are reading 5V.  Everything is installed correctly as it still works with the older version of Labview, is there something that needs to be reset or change so that teh SCXI will function properly with DAQmx?

    From my understanding you are using an SCXI 1001 chassis with an SCXI 1102 and 1303 terminal block to perform thermocouple measurements.  You are upgrading to LabVIEW 8.2 and DAQmx.  I am assuming you were using LabVIEW 6.1 since there isn’t a LabVIEW 6.5.  You mentioned that are able to get a correct reading of 0.5 mV with LabVIEW 6.1 but you see a rail of 5V with LabVIEW 8.2 and DAQmx. 
    My first suggestion is that you ensure that the SCXI is set at the appropriate range and for the correct thermocouple type.  You can also configure these settings in MAX as detailed on page 27 of the SCXI 1102 User Manual and Specifications Guide. 
    My second suggestion is for you to start off using an example program to see if you see the same error.  When you are in a LabVIEW 8.2 VI you can go to Help>>Find Examples to open the NI Example Finder.  You then choose Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Analog Measurements>>Temperature>> Cont. Acq Thermocouple Samples-Int CLK.vi.   This example program is supported by your hardware and is a good resource to use to troubleshoot.
    If these suggestions aren't helpful please answer the following questions in your reply.
    1.        I would like to know what range you have set the SCXI 1102 to read. 
    2.       What version of DAQmx are you using?  You can find the version my opening Measurement and Automation explorer (MAX), expanding the “Software “and clicking on NI-DAQmx.
    3.       What operating system are you using?
    4.  Does your Traditional DAQ program work in LabVIEW 8.2?

  • MAX Simulated Device SCXI-1001

    I open "Measurement and Automation Explorer".
    Right click on "Device and Interfaces".
    Select "Create New".
    Select "NI-DAQmx Simulated Device".
    Press "Finish".
    Expand "SCXI Chassis".
    Select "NI SCXI-1001".
    Press "OK".
    Window "Create New SCXI Chassis" appears.
    ("Chassis Communicator" does not allow a selection)
    "Chassis Address" set to zero
    Press "Save".
    Window "Chassis Communicator" not picked with message "Please pick the communicating DAQ device."
    My system does not have an SCXI-1001 attached. Our equipment is being shipped to the
    installation site. We need to continue software development and test.
    Can you tell me if I can simulate the SCXI-1001 without the SCXI being attached to my computer?
    This function worked when I tried it on the computer that had the SCXI-1001 attached.
    Is there a work around for his issue?

    Hi Bill-
    In order to configure a simulated SCXI chassis you will first need to create a simulated DAQ card to serve as the chassis controller.  I would suggest a simple multifunction I/O board such as the M Series PCI-6221.  Please post back if you are still not successful.

    除SCXI-1600外,都是以前的人留下的,
    在兩個月前, 在使用其間電腦detect不到SCXI-1001,
    因為 NI AT-MIO-16E-10 實在太舊,
    所以認為問題出自它,並買了SCXI-1600替代,
    選SCXI-1600因為可以連USB方便得多
    現在當我在SCXI-1001中只放SCXI-1600,是沒有問題的,
    在Measurement & Automation中,
    可以看見在"Devices and Interfaces"中有"NI SCXI-1001"SCI"",
    之中還有"1: NI SCXI-1600 "Dev1"",而"1"代表slot nukber,
    我已全試了12個slot,每一個都能正常detect,
     證明SCXI-1001全身應該無問題,每個slot都正常運作
    而問題是,當我放SCXI-1102或SCXI-1102B進其他slot時,
    就不能detect出來,我right cick "NI SCXI-1001"SCI""開"Properties",
    在打開的"SCXI Chassis Configuration"視窗中,

    另外,若換上SCXI-1160的話,Measurement & Automation就只能detect SCXI-1600而detect不到SCXI-1001,
    為甚應會這樣?

  • SCXI-1001 will not test properly

    I have a SCXI-1001 chassis with two SCXI-1102 modules on board. I have one in slot 1 and one in slot 12. I have the chassis cabled to a DAQCard-AI-16E-4 PCMCIA card on a Dell laptop. Whenever I look at the PC Card Manager, it shows that the DAQCard is working correctly. In MAX, the DAQCard passes the "test resources" test, as well. Whenever I insert my chassis and select auto-detect modules, it finds the two SCXI-1102 modules. When MAX asks me to identify the controlling module, I choose the module in slot 1, which should be correct. The chassis and modules appear in MAX, but when I try to run the device test on the chassis, MAX says, "Unable to test chassis at this time." When I look at the properties of the m
    odule in slot 1, the "Connected To" field shows "None". If I select the card and choose "Apply", then "OK". The slot is still not connected to the card. When I go in to slot 1 properties again, the "Connected To" field still shows "None". MAX will not let me select a module to control the chassis.
    I have made sure the chassis is on and connected to the card (obviously, since the auto-detect worked). I have traded out all of the hardware, and restarted. I have tried about everything to no avail. Hopefully someone can shed some light here.

    The "Connected To" property shouldn't be disappering. I would make sure I was using the most updated NI-DAQ version. Since you have tried some different hardware, it may be a software issue. Also make sure you are not only selecting the DAQCard for the Connected To field, but also check the box below it to indicate that the module will control the chassis.
    With SCXI systems, there are several hardware components to consider. You might try switching cables (check for bent pins) or cabling to the other 1102 module instead. You can also try different SCXI slots or a different SCXI chassis all together.

  • System calibration of TBX-1303 tied to SCXI-1001 Chasis

    I'm wanting to calibrate the complete NI system back to the computer by inputing an equivalent temperature  millivolt signal thru an ice bath into a TBX-1303 thermocouple card that's tied to a SCXI-1001 chasis. Do the 32 channels on this TBX-1303 card get multiplexed through one D/A or is there one D/A for each channel? I want to know if I can calibrate through one channel or do I need to check each individual channel?

    The SCXI chassis and modules do not have an ADC (analog-digital converter) chip.  The purpose of SCXI is to condition signals being measured from a sensor (TCs in your case).  The module and terminal block do all the necessary conditioning like filtering and amplification, and the SCXI chassis backplane routes the clean signal back to some type of data acquisition card; this card has the ADC chip on it.  Typically this card has a multiplexer design.  So you would need to calibrate each channel on the SCXI module and terminal block.

  • Error 200320: Chassis SCXI 1001 - Mod 1502

    Hello there.
    I'm setting for first time a SCXI 1001 chassis with several modules, 3 of them 1502 with their 1314 terminal blocks. I've used this chassis before to read some temperatures and worked fine, so I'm pretty sure the problem is me.
    I get this error 200320 about simultaneous sample and hold when trying to aquire strain data, but I think the configuration is fine. I'm still pretty new on LabView and have tried checking the setup both by the Data Aquisition Express module and by MAX; but I get same result.
    Please help me to set this up as soon as posible, I need your knowledge.

  • SCXI-1001 rail screw dimensions

    I'm not sure if this is the best spot for this but....
    I have some custom PCBs that breakout the connections of several SCXI-1130 modules in an SCXI-1001 chassis.  Since I don't want the PCBs to either A) come loose, or B) cause undue strain to the module connector, I have made a bracket that I mount them to.  I want to connect to the rails of the SCXI chassis through the openings in the front panels of the modules.  To do this I need appropriate screws.
    I think that the rails are M2.5, but I'm not sure (and I don't want to order and wait for hardware only to find out that I guessed wrong).  Can anyone confirm that the mounting rails on the SCXI-1001 require M2.5 screws?

    My system consist of SCXI 1001 chassis,SXCI 1321 modules,SXCI 1321 terminal blocks as well as NI6052E card.
    My problem is to configure the SCXI 1001.
    In MAX,when i am going to "creat new" in Devices and Interfaces , it shows my SCXI 1001(But it also shows some other SCXIs and PXIs).When i am right trying to configure it , i am unable to do it.
    I checked the drivers also but the systems says that the drivers are ok up to the date.
    Actuelly, i want to measure the temprature in Labview.For testing purpose , i have attached the load cell but the attached channel doesn't show anywhere in the system.Actuelly system doen't ask me also to configure all these details.
    I am a new usuer so guide me in that way.

    Hi Bhavik,
    The first thing to do is make sure the 6052E is installed
    correctly. Make sure it is listed under Devices and Interfaces >> NI-DAQmx
    Devices in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and that it passes a self
    test. If the 6052E is present and working make sure that you do not have any
    SCXI chassis’s configured under NI-DAQmx devices that use the 6052E as the
    communicator already. If it is already set as the communicator of a SCXI
    chassis it will not be available to select when configuring a new chassis. If there
    is already a SCXI chassis using the 6052E you can remove this chassis by right
    clicking on it and selecting Delete. Once this is done the 6052E should show up
    in the chassis communicator drop down menu when creating a new chassis. Please
    let me know if you have any questions.

  • SCXI-1001 Fuse Issues

    I returned from the weekend to find that one of the SCXI-1001 chassis that I have had blown a main power fuse. I replaced the fuse and turned it back on, upon which the fuse blew again. I then took out all the modules, replaced the fuse and turned it on again; normal power up occurred. I then turned off the chassis, inserted a module, turned it back on, and repeated this process until the fuse blew again (4 modules later). This would lead me to believe that the specific module was bad. SO, I repeated the steps with modules known to me ok. After 3 modules again, another fuse gone.
    Is there any more trouble shooting I should do? What actions should I take to get this problem resolved and insure all modules involved are ok??

    Something I would also try is to define if it is the combination of modules. If is not the modules, the last thing it could be is if the fuse is not slow blow. This means that at the very beginning there is little more current than later. The forum post also have the link for the recommended fuse (if you are not using NI's).
    Hope this helps but if not, I would call us for sending the unit back for repair.

  • What is the bus speed of the SCXI 1001 chassis?

    I'm trying to locate the bus speed for the SCXI 1001 chassis for use in accelerometer data acq.

    Normally for a 12 bit DAQ device the maximum sampling rate of a SCXI chassis is 333 kS/s. There are several factors that affect this such as number of channels, DAQ device, number of chassis, etc. Here is a link that contains some additional information.

  • Scxi 1001 backplane fuse blown by 1 of 12 modules

    I have an SCXI 1001 chassis with 12 relay modules. Suddenly the modules were unresponsive, though the chassis tested okay and auto configured modules.
    I found that the backplane fuses were blown. I replaced them with 4 modules, all's well and the relays work. I fully populated all the modules, and the fuses blew again.
    Anyone have suggestion on located bad SCXI 1160 relay module that might be blowing the fuses? While troubleshooting, I loaded the modules in another chassis, and those fuses went also.
    At 3 bucks each, and 2 blown each time, it could get expensive, so I'm hoping for shortcut. Thanks

    Hi sgonzo,
    First, I suggest that you visually inspected all your relays for any sort of obvious physical damage.  Unfortunately, there is no simple test that you can do on the relay module outside the chassis to determine which one is causing the fuses to blow.  I would recommend starting with 6 modules at a time and testing them, then testing the remaining 6, followed by testing 3 of the 6 in the "bad" bunch, then the other 3 and so on.  This way should ensure that you blow the fuses 3 times, so 6 fuses and $18.  I would also recommend keeping the 4 that you mentioned worked fine in one group so you can quickly eliminate them later if they happen to be in your "bad" group.  Hope that helps!

  • Scxi 1001/1102/1303

    I am having trouble getting accurate thermocouple readings from my 1001/1102/1303 components.  I have 10 channels hooked up to the device.  All values are not accurate and are negative (in the -300 to -400 range.)  Further, when I unplug one thermocouple from its panel jack, all 10 channels respond to the input as if they've all been affected.  I installed the hardware in the from-the-factory configuration in regard to the bias/pull-up resistor networks.  Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Jim,
    Here is some information from the SCXI-1303 Installation Guide and Specifications.  When the thermocouple channel is open, there is circuitry in place to detect that channel to be open, and a pull up resistor to +5V rail causes the channel to saturate at 5V.  You can reference this on page 2 Open Thermocouple Detection.  So the open circuit voltage means that the 1303 is properly working.
    Do you have any other terminal blocks with you?  Since the 1303 is meant for thermocouples, it might be doing something with the signal to attenuate it or make it rail at 1V since thermocouple measurements are generally low voltage.  It might be a better test to use a terminal block that doesn't account for thermocouples.  Did you specify ±10V input signal range in your tasks? 
    I can't seem to find an explanation for seeing 1V off a 9V battery.  Maybe try a different voltage (1.5V battery, power supply, etc.) to have two sets of data to compare to.  If you still see bad results with a different voltage value, and no conclusions can be drawn from that data, then there is a good chance the hardware is broken.  How long has this worked before?  Any ideas what changed to make this card not work?
