SD CARD Cameras & PE7

Hi All,
I know this is an old topic, but maybe there is some new info available. Yes I know PE7 loves HDV, which I have used very successfully for 3 years. But I am eager to enter the modern world of File based video cams and save the capture time. Also, my clients are sending me files that I always need to render out to .m2t files before editing in PE7. The lack of efficiencies are really starting to frustrate me.So I ask the following:
- Assume I have gobs of ram and and speed on my computer. Is anyone having any luck with the new file based cameras? Really hoping the answer is yes, because PE7 is absolutely awesome!
- Or...should I stop asking this question, buy a juiced up Mac PowerBook and strongly consider migrating to FC Pro since it seems to work well with most of the new cams?
Does anyone else feel my pain? Your input will be most appreciated.
Stan

This is about as close, as I have been able to come:
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2, Windows Media Center, Windows Vista® (all applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems), or Windows 7 (Adobe® Premiere® Elements Editor runs native on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems; all other applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems)
That sounds like 64-bit in Win7-64 only, but is not 100% clear to me.
As PrE 10 comes with both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions (at least on the physical media), you should be able to install PrE 10-64, and see if the installation completes on your Vista-64, and runs fine. If not, you can then install the 32-bit version.
Good luck,
Hunt

My Olympic camera SD card doesn't fit into the SD card camera reader. Apple advised me to purchase the product in order to import photos to my IPad. How do I over ride this problem. How do I import photos from an Olympus FE-340 directly to my IPad?

Your camera uses an OLympic XD picture card http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-xD-Picture-Memory-202332-package/dp/B002LC2DQ4/ref =pd_sim_sbs_p_1 This card has different dimensions compared to an SD card.
You should be able to plug the cable that came with your camera into the camera connection kit to import the pics.

  • Transfer photo problem: Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader to iPad

    Equipment:
Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader-ZML (from BH Photo dot com)
    Version 7.0.2 (11A501)
    iPad Wi-Fi Cellular 32GB MD517LL/A
    SD card 4GB Kingston SDHC
SD card 32GB Lexar SDHC Class 10
    Nikon D5100
Fry's build desktop with Windows 7 Home Edition
    Files type:
    *.jpg
    Desired outcome:
Transfer *.jpg images from desktop to SD card to iPad for use Photos (camera roll)
    Successes:
iPad recognizes and displays *.jpg created in-camera.
    Problem statement:
File origin: all image files created with camera listed above.
Files created in camera (*.jpg & *.NEF (RAW), then transferred to desktop.  *.NEF files converted to *.jpg.  Reload files to SD card in *.jpg format only, iPad does not see / display images to be imported from SD card to iPad.
    Problem resolution attempts:
Format SD card using desktop, result - iPad does not recognize SD card
Format SD card using camera, result - iPad recognizes SD card
Try a different SD card (used two, see equipment above)
Test shot photo (*.jpg) in camera work only (no transfer to desktop), result iPad recognizes and displays image
    For *.jpgs on desktop
1st convert file names to same nomenclature (system of names) created by camera (DSC_001.jpg) (DSC underscore 3 digits file extension).
2nd load file into same folder that was created by camera on SD cards, result displayed one desktop originating test photo once only.  Subsequent attempts failed.
No difference in performance between the 2 SD cards.  In camera work displays but not transfer files from desktop to SD card
E-mail photos (15) to personal e-mail, open file with internet, copy to iPad, result iPad copies, loads, and displays images in camera roll.  I used same images I loaded to SD from desktop in attempt to keep everything equal.
Side note: I received a notification (push to my device) to from Apple to update software.  The operating system was updated to what I have now.  I don't recall if the one success I listed above was before or after the OS update.
    Discussion
Lighning cable advertised as useful in transfering images (pictures) to iPad.  I read prior to purchase what image files were supported.  I began with high hopes, and now I'm very deflated.
I've hacked and hacked and tried and read and tried and... I can't solve this problem.
A resolution (without additional expenditures) is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance to everyone for your consideration and help.

There's a step by step in the manual
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/
There is no specific naming convention beyond must be in the DCIM folder and  must have 8 character names. myphotos.jpg for example.
I've successfully used SD cards to import videos off my computer onto my iPad, they just have to be named right.
The reason for the work arounds is, in Apple's work flow, you use the camera kit only to interface with your camera, if you want to import from your computer, you use iTunes. So that's the methods they favor. Transferring from your computer to a card to your iPad via the kit is a non-supported work around, which is why you have to basically fool the iPad into thinking those images came directly from the camera.

  • Problem to import clips video with "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader", my mini ipad and my camcorder?

I need import immediatly my clips video from my camcorder in my mini ipad with my SD card.
Solution: I have to use "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader"
Problem: When i insert my Sd card in the "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader", my mini ipad don't recognize the sd card... And i'm sure the format of clips video is accepted by ipad (specs).
I know why my mini ipad don't recognize the sd card... Because the directory where my camcorder put the clips video on the SD card is not accepted by  "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader". After some research, this device accept only the video in "DCIM" directory.
So my question: WHO KNOW WHICH CAMCORDER CAN BE ACCEPTED BY  "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader" WITH CORRECT VIDEO FORMAT (SPECS) AND CORRECT WRITING DIRECTORY "DCIM"?
    Thanx for your help!!!!!

Since the ipad is not a computer it cannot be expected to behave as such. The resources are limited  and so are the capabilities. Some things will work just fine but others will not. You have to be  willing to make some compromises and accept some of the limitations, otherwise you will end up being frustrated. Maybe another device will better suite your needs.

How to transfer photos via Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader to iPad.

You need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

  • I just purchased a lightning to sd card camera reader and when I connected to my iPad it said it wouldn't work, why?

I just purchased a lightning to sd card camera reader and when I connected to my iPad it said it wouldn't work, why?

What is the actual error message that you are getting, what typs of card is it, and how did the photos get onto the SD card ?
The supported cards are, from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101 :
    SDSC
    SDHC
    miniSD
    microSD
    MMC
    SDXC
If you copied the photos onto the card yourself then the card needs to have a DCIM directory on the root of the card with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.

Yes. The Camera reader is not compatible with iPhones.

  • HT4101 Why won't my iPad mini allow my gopro 32gb SD card to transfer video using the lightening to SD card camera reader?

Why won't my iPad mini allow my gopro 32gb SD card to transfer video using the lightening to SD card camera reader?
The gopro transfer worked with my original iPad. Is it the lightening technology?

If you've gone through all that and it's the right kind of SD card, right naming convention etc. try giving your iPad a reset. Sometimes that port gets turned off (for lack of a better term) and a reset turns it back on. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
If it still doesn't work, if you have access to another iPad try the reader on that. THere are some defective ones out there. If it works on another iPad then there's something going on with yours. If it doesn't work on another iPad then you may want to take that reader back and exchange it because it may be bad.

  • IPhone 6 Plus and Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader - Missed Opportunity?

Apple definitely missed an opportunity to tighten up the DSLR/GoPro photography/video workflow with the iPhone 6 Plus.  Currently the only way to transfer images from a DSLR or GoPro camera is through an extremely slow WiFi/Bluetooth transfer process.  This is fine for someone is moving 1 or 2 images.  But, for a batch of 50 to 100, this approach is way too time consuming.  Android devices are way ahead of Apple in this regard and I'm fighting the urge to break-away from the iPhone once again, for something that is very solvable.
Enabling the the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader to work with the new iPhone 6 Plus solves this workflow issue.
    Why not enable it?

I was gonna buy the 128GB iPhone 6+ until I read this. Now, nope. I may still have to get an iPhone because of the tons of apps I'm already invested in, but since the 6+ will be useless for photos, it'll be the midrange regular 6. Maybe.
Meanwhile, I'd love to get an Android device in about the same size as the 6+, storage and screen-wise, but don't need the cell capability. At 128GB it would make a great photo vault and something I could do some metadata entry on. Any suggestions?

  • Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader OR Lightning to USB Camera Adapter?

I should buy one or the other for a Nikon D3100 since they are sold separately nowadays. Which is the best choice? Considering the (not so good) reviews for both of them, I have the impression that the USB camera adapter is more universal and less prone to problems...

All my pro camera presently use Compact Flash cards. I've never had a problem using the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter with any of my cameras.
the choice you make should be based on what is most convenient for you. If you have multiple Cameras or have a camera with a card other than an SD then the choice is obvious.

  • HT2494 Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader.

I attached the reader to the Mac Air and can find it in the finder location.  But when I go to open it there is nothing there. The SD card is in the reader.  My software is Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5(11G63). One thing i read is that my software needs to be an earlier software.  But I don't want to change my software.  What can I do to get this to work?

In the past I've managed to copy an MP4 film via an SD card with the camera connection kit on the first gen iPad and been able to play it, but a film bought from iTunes didn't play (you can't copy content to the Videos app via the kit) - I assume that the same thing applies to the iPad 4/Mini and the lightning to SD reader. Also the kit only recognises content that is in a particular format : the card has to have a DCIM directory off its root, with the photos/videos underneath it with filenames exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus file extension.

  • SunRay 3.1 No card( CAM Mode ) with no application

    Dear all,
I have SF280R with install Solaris 10 06/06 OS, latest patches. In the global zone, i had installed srss3.1 with the latest patch.
In SunRay Admin GUI, i had set a policy where by card and non card users uses CAM mode.
These are the new requirements for my setup:
    1) Non card users will be in CAM mode but they will be no CAM Menu application available to launch.
    2) Card users also in CAM mode but they can launch firefox and dtterm from CAM Menu application.
Anyone can guide and point me the way to configure as mentioned above.
    Appreciate for any help given

If the old application was coded to run with swingall.jar and a 1.1.x version of the JRE, then it will be using class names that look like "com.sun.java.swing.something", I think. Those refer to the pre-release version of Swing that was used back then (1998-ish?) before 1.2 was released with the official version of Swing. In 1.2 and later, Swing classes have names like "javax.swing.something". That's why adding swingall.jar to your classpath appears to fix the problem, because you are providing the obsolete classes that the application was compiled to use. I have no way of predicting what other problems this might cause, though, since I know nothing about the application.

  • My lightening to sd card camera reader has stopped working

My lightening to SD card reader has stopped working. Any idea why?

I am using it just as before and with the same camera and SD card. I have reset my iPad as you suggested, but I still get the same message "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPad"
I bought it from Amazon Uk last year. Have I been sold a counterfeit item?

  • Folded card came without cellophane wrapper

In iPhoto '09 (version is probably immaterial) using Apple's printing service.  I tried one 5x7 card as a test and it came with envelope and both were in a nice cellophane wrapper.  Just what I wanted, so I make 10 orders of 15.  They came in a box with envelopes but no wrappers.  No wrappers and not happy.  The only change I made (besides quantity) was to delete the grey-tone apple logo from the rear of the cards.  Does anyother have experience with that or know if deleting the logo will also delete the cellophane wrapper?  That would be presumptuous of Apple's printer.  Or could it be a quantity threshold that causes the wrappers to be dropped?

Most likely that is going to turn out to be a question for Apple support - not for the users here
