SD Card Installation

Hello
I just got an sd card.  I have put it in just like a cassette in a recorder, and I have tried to format it, but my phone is not reading it.  My media card support is on, and  my mass storage mode is on.  It's a Kingston, and it has an adapter, so I have tried to format it on my computer, but I can't seem to get to it from my computer.  What am I missing?

if you cant see it when you put it in the SD adapter and plug directly in the PC, and also cant see it in the blackberry, then it is a bad card. When it comes to those media cards, I install it at the store and make sure it works before I leave

  • Sound no longer working after graphics card installation

    Okay, so my problem is:
I recently added a graphics card to my windows 8.1 PC. The card itself works fine (a GTX 750Ti), but since installing it my sound no longer works from either port. Things I have already tried:
    Rebooting (obviously)
Taking the card out and then replacing it
Going through all the control panel audio settings (more on this later)
Disabling the HDMI audio on the card
Trying different (provably working) speakers and headphones
Updating/installing drivers (not that you need them for headphones)
The "playback devices" screen declared that nothing whatsoever is plugged in (it is). I'm concerned I might have damaged something during installation, but nothing seems obviously damaged, and I would have expected static to either do no damage
or wipe out the entire motherboard. The back port is working, so it isn't the cable. My monitor output is HDMI (with no speakers on the monitor), if that makes any difference.
    Penny for anyone's thoughts?

The back port is working, so it isn't the cable.
I’m confused as to what this means. If you have audio via the ports on the back of the computer but not in front ports you may have damaged the front audio cable or connection on the motherboard
or at the front ports. Find the HD Audio (or AC’97) port on your motherboard and verify that the cable is connected and intact, then follow this cable forward to your front audio ports. If you stressed this cable by tugging or pushing, it could have damaged
the connection to the front ports. Sometimes these ports are connected by a header like the motherboard and this connection could have come loose.

  • Firmtek eSATA card installs correctly, but doesn't see Vantec Enclosure

So obviously I bought the new Firmtek 2SM2-E eSATA video card to work with my MacBook Pro and Vantec eSATA / USB 2.0 enclosure. It's a 500GB Seagate eSATA drive that I've formatted as FAT32. The drive works great via USB 2.0 connection in both Windows and OS X, but the eSATA part has me stumped.
RTM, installed the drivers under OS X first, and after connecting the card under XP. Used the drivers from the correct folders on the disc for each, and both show the correct information and look fine. But the "light" on the Firmtek card has NEVER lit up, and though I've double and triple-checked the eSATA cable that came with the Vantec enclosure, I'm SURE I've connected it correctly. The power for the Vantec is plugged in, and the light on the DRIVE ENCLOSURE is on... but nothing from the Firmtek and the drive does NOT show up.
Looking in Windows, I went to Drive Manager. I couldn't see the drive partition in here, so I knew something was amiss. When I went to click on Removable Drives, I got an error and a red checkbox. It mentioned removable devices might be disabled, and when I went to services that was the case. I set it to automatic, started the service, and rebooted... no change.
In OS X, all I really know to do is look at the new icon at the top of the page. It's there, the correct info shows and the "Power off card" option is there. So it appears to be installed correctly, but again... no luck from the drive.
Maybe the cable that came with the Vantec enclosure is bad? It's all I can come It plugs in solid on both ends... so I can't figure out WHAT the heck is wrong.
Thoughts? Suggestions? There is NO info on FirmTek's site yet, so I guess I'll copy and paste this to them.

I think I found the solution for the Seagate drives.
    I purchased the following:
    SeriTek 2SM2-E expresscard34
    1 Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATA_II NCQ w/Perpendicular Rec. OEM
    2 Seagate 7200.9 500GB SATA_II NCQ Retail Box
    AZIO eSATA/USB 2.0 enclosure
I ran some tests and here is what I get:
    320GB drive w/1.5Gb/s jumper on ------ works
    320GB drive w/1.5Gb/s jumper off ----- doesn't work
    500GB drive w/1.5Gb/s jumper on ------ works
    500GB drive w/1.5Gb/s jumper off ----- doesn't work
My 320GB 7200.10 OEM drive came WITH the jumper installed.
My two 500GB 7200.9 Retail drives came with the jumpers OFF and none are included in the box. So I don't know where to get one, I am currently using the one that came on my 320GB drive on the 500GB. A regualar jumper might fit but it will be a tight squeeze getting it on there.
To limit your drive to 1.5Gb/s so they will work with the SeriTek, simply place the small jumper so that it covers the farthest 2 pins to the right (when looking at the back, power/sata connectors). There also should be a pic of the jumper installation on the sticker on the top of the drive.
Also, those worried about the performance hit from running your drives at the slower SATA-150 speed, DON'T.
This SeriTek express card has 2 eSATA ports and even if you RAID them to 2 eSATA II drives you will not even reach 150MB/sec combined for the two drives. Check out barefeat's review of this card w/ two SATAII drives http://www.barefeats.com/hard71.html
Notice even the new 10Krpm Raptors (I run 2xRAID-0 in my desktop) are still using the older SATA-150 b/c that is not the bottleneck, the drive is.

  • USB card installation

    Hi all,
I hope not to break the rules - but I am transferring my post from: +Mac OS X & Related s/w >>OS X Panther & earlier>> installation & setup+. (perhaps I put it in the wrong place). Here is my original post:
""I am new to OS X. I've only just installed it on the Mac below. The computer had OS 9.2.2, which it still has on a separate partition. I installed OS X 13.3.2 onto a partition that did not have any system on it, and then updated it to 10.3.9. No problems so far,
Just previously to installing OS X I had fitted a 5-port USB PCI card which 9.2.2 did not recognise; the card is one of these cheap ones (Pluscom with a VIA chip) and it says on the tin that OS 10.2, 10.3, &10.4 are supported.
Well, it didn't work unaided in 9.2.2, which prompted me to install Panther.
When all this is done it still doesn't mount the USB flash drive when inserted into a socket on the card. So I visited the makers site and downloaded a OS X driver. It arrived as a .dmg file and it unzipped itself and I now have a folder with the following files in it:
    Archive.bom
    Archive.pax
    Info.plist
    Pkginfo
    Resources, a folder containing:
    Description.plist
    postflight
    VIAMACUSB-160.bom
    VIAMACUSB-160.info
    VIAMACUSB-160.pax
    VIAMACUSB-160.sizes
My question is - how do I install this driver?""
edit: When I d/l this driver from makers site Safari automatically expands/decompresses and the result is a folder containing the above, and I don't know what to do with it. Please help me sort this out, thanks.

Usually the "cheap" PC cards don't work on Macs.

Best bet is any card with a NEC PD720100 or PD720101 chipset. Stick with the NEC chip, and try NOT to use drivers, OS X should't need drivers.

  • Airport card installation imac g4

    hi, folks --
i've got an imac g4 flat panel purchased in 2004 (the half basketball-base model). can i purchase an airport card and install this myself?
    thanks.
    --adam

Your 1 GHz iMac G4 requires the 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme card. Yes you can install it yourself using the directions at "iMac (17-inch 1GHz) and iMac (USB 2.0): Customer-Installable Parts Instructions".

  • Network card installation

I've tried installing 2 different network cards (Linksys TNE100TX; 3COM 3C509B Etherlink III). I think my problem is that I'm a novice user and don't know how to install a network card and assign an IP address. I've found the Linksys card on one HCL (although it's not listed in my Solaris 8 documentation on my disk), but can't find the 3COM card. Are either one of these cards compatible? Do I need drivers?
I'm on an Intel platform with Solaris 8. I am connected to a Linksys router (to share my DSL line). The router has a fixed IP address from PacBell, but uses 'DHCP' to assign IP addresses to my 3 computers.
How can I let my UNIX system know I'm using DHCP?
How do I assign the router IP address? Do I use the route add default command? Do I use the default gateway address or the router IP address for this?
Do I need a DNS/hosts table? Should I edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf file to add 'dns' to the 'hosts' line?
Do I need to edit the /etc/resolv.conf file, putting in my primary and secondary name servers (from Pac Bell)?
Also, on boot I get an error message: Can't register INT for PCIclass, 0C0300 device at IPL 1 because conflicts with IPL 14. Can you explain what this means and how to correct it?
As you can from my questions, I know some terminology (from my books), but don't really have a good grasp of what I am doing yet. I just started learning UNIX.
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.
    Bill Lazar

    Recently I have installed S10 b63 on a X86 PII machine.
Regarding the 3com nic - 3c905c - the installation and running with elxl driver was ok.
Now I want to change this nic for an other 3com nic -3c905, but encountered following problems:
When I put new nic in same pci slot and boot up solaris I get a row of errors and don't get trough the boot process.
-Errors are caused e.g. by the different MAC address of the NIC, and therefore no NIC is recognised at all.
-Boot hangs because a NSF request is made at boot, but is not rewarded as NIC is not active.
Changed my strategy to adding a second 3com NIC (both using the elxl driver) and followed the hints from Juergen Keil (above), but " ifconfig elxl1plumb " results in "no such interface"
I have looked on the web and in the documentation for a solution, but so far I have not found how to go about this, other that doing a complete new solaris installation.
    Any help appriciated !

  • Sound card Installer will not launch

    Hello folks,
I've downloaded & tried to install a Roland UA-1EX USB sound card driver for OS 9 and the installer will not launch.
I already use the unit with OSX.
Usually these are VISE installers with a blue icon but this one decompresses into a white generic document.
I have had exchanges with technical support & whilst being helpful he swears the file is ok.
I used Filetyper to look at the file to see if I could correct the filetype & tried comparing to other similar installers but with no success.
I have a ResEdit to but don't know how to use it.
I went to the ftp site & downloaded it from there as opposed to the support site, still no joy.
I've tried different ways of decompressing & checked on my other computers but I can't get it to launch.
I get the feeling he is not actually loading it up on an OS machine but I haven't come out & said it...
    Can anyone help?
here's a screenshot of the windows...
    http://www.swampnet.demon.co.uk/pix1/installer_problem.png
    Cheers,
    Steve

I found that download off a link on this page:
    http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=743
It is full of warnings that it cannot be used or installed under Classic.
I must also give you the usual warning that any Mac software (Applications and some other files) unpacked on a PC will be damaged beyond repair. Final unpacking MUST be done on a Mac.
When I unpack the .sit file, I get an Installer vise 3.6 Lite Installer file, plus the other files shown in your windows. They do not have blank Icons.
Have you tried rebuilding the OS 9 Desktop File lately ? (Hold down Command and Option when the Finder is starting up.) This sometimes solves such problems.

  • MS-6590 & AGP 8x/4x card installation Problem

I've got an MSI MS-6590 motherboard and am having problems installing AGP 8x/4x cards in it.  I've tried two different cards (one being an ATI 128mb AGP Radeon 9200, the other a GeForce FX 5200 256mb AGP card) and in both cases when I booted up my system after installing the card Window 98 identified both cards as  PCI cards and wanted to install a PCI driver.  I canceled out of this both times and tried to install the AGP driver in each case from the CD supplied with the card only to get an error message stating that the driver I was attempting to install didn't match the  card the system was seeing.  After this the installation was aborted.
Both cards claimed to support Windows 98/98SE (the Radeon through the Windows ME driver).
My system currently uses an ATI Radeon 7200 card with works just fine with my MS-6590.
Do AGP 8x/4x cards require Windows XP inspite the card manufacturer claiming that Windows 98SE is supported or is there some kind of hardware conflict that is causing Windows 98 not to see the card as being AGP?  If the latter, how do I resolve the problem?
    Scott Miller

Well, I downloaded the 455vp1 version of VIA Hyperion 4in1 driver and installed it without any problems.  It did, however, install a VIA Standard Host Bridge driver and a VIA Standard PCI to ISA Bridge driver.  Are these, particularly the latter, going to cause problems (so far they haven't) since the MS-6590 doesn't have any ISA slots?  Can I remove them (if necessary)? If so, how? I tried deleting the latter via the Control Panel/Device Manager but Windows 98SE insisted on reinstalling it when I restarted my system!
I also found a "VIA AGP 4x/133 Setup Program" in my App Add/Remove list (I don't know if the previous 449 4in1 installer added it or it was installed by the 6590 CD driver installer).  Do I need to keep this or can it be safely uninstalled?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • AirPort Extreme card installation problem

I recently bought an airport extreme card to put in my eMac (1.42 ghz G4). I follow the instructions to the letter for installation, but whenever I try to turn the computer on after installation, it sounds the 'turn-on' chord and then just sits there, black screen, power light on, never getting past that point. if i shut down and take the card out, it turns on just fine, everything works. I have all the latest software updates, installed the airport software that came with the card. what could possibly be wrong?

Most folks that report problems with the installation
of the AirPort Extreme cards find that they don't
have the card fully in place. There should be a
"click" when the card is firmly seated in the slot.
Hi. I'm facing same problem. My eMac doesn't start. I pushed as hard as I can the AirPort in the slot. It seems fitting well. As soon as I remove the card it start like a dream. I'll try again after reading your comment, but I am nervous. What if I break the housing?

I don't think your network card is Solaris compatible. A good stable choice is 3C905 by 3Com and Intel eepro100.

  • Apple Quicksilver 933 Airport card installation

I'd like to install a "Airport" wireless card in my old Apple Quicksilver 933 computer.
Are they still available? I have no idea where I would buy one for such an old computer. I believe I purchased it in 2002.
And if I did manage to buy one, would it be easy to install? I'm going to try and find the manual that came with it.... I'd appreciate any info as to where to buy one and how to go about installing the airport card.
    Thanks.....

    Hi-
    Installation is easy:

  • XPS 8500 compatible graphic card installations and avoiding video BIOS issues

I see several threads looking for XPS 8500  video card upgrades that can be used with the stock 460w PSU or upgraded PSU.   However, in upgrading the GPU for this machine, there are some cards that will not be compatible and will result in a black screen.    Even with a proper video card install, an adequate and/or upgraded power supply , the video card fans will be working, but there will be no video.   The problem lies in the BIOS for the XPS 8500 motherboard not recognizing the video card and this is a known issue that has carried over from the XPS 8300 to the current XPS 8500.
There have been vidoe BIOS upgrades from some card makers to correct this problem for certain cards, but there are a lot of legacy cards that won't work.  Safest bet would be to use a newer card with the PCI 3.0 spec.
In the sticky in this forum a link to the current Dell drivers shows the following video cards that are supported with drivers for Windows 8:
    Video
    GeForce GT 545 | GTX660 | GTX555 | GeForce GTS450 | GeForce GTX 590 | GeForce GTX 460 | GTX680 | GeForce GTX 580 | GeForce GTX 560 Ti | GTX 480 | GTX690 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00753042M/3
    Geforce GT 620 | Geforce GT640 | nVidia GT640 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00736734M/3
    AMD HD7570 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00746666M/6/
    Radeon HD 6990 | Radeon HD7870 | Radeon HD 6950 | Radeon HD 5870 | Radeon HD 6770 | Radeon HD 5970 | Radeon HD7770 | Radeon HD 5770 | Radeon HD 6870 | Radeon HD7950 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00749652M/3
Since these are Dell OEM cards that are being supported, there are also manufacturer specific issues where a given video card model may or may not work depending on its configuration.  Whereas a XFX HD 6870 will work in the XPS 8500, the same card made by another manufacturer may not work.
Please keep this in mind when doing GPU and PSU upgrades and hopefully BIOS upgrades in the future will address these issues.
It would be helpful if you have a SPECIFIC card that does or doesn't work, to post the manufacturer and complete model number in this thread.
OS and Bios information also would be helpful, and if you are using the Dell PSU or an upgrade power supply.  Specific model please!
    Edit:
Please include following and any other helpful information
Graphic card manufacturer and model number:
    Bios:
    Operating System:
Power supply manufacturer if not Dell 460w PSU :
    Compatible:  Yes or No
Original card with system that worked:

I just installed a GTX 970 into my Dell XPS 8500 (Win 7 Pro-64bit)  with out issues on the first try.
    These were the parts:
Updated my XPS 8500 Motherboard Bios to version "A12" while waiting for my parts to arrive
EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 Superclocked Graphics Card (EVGA 04G-2974-KR)
EVGA SuperNOVA 750B1 750W Power Supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR)
Note, that I choose the "Back Blower" version of the card rather than the double fan ATX 2.0 version.  That's because the case design of the XPS 8500 doesn't have "Great" circulation.   The "Reference" style  (Solid video card shell with a single fan -- that draws air in from the case in... and vents out the back of the PC) is better suited to the XPS.
Putting a new Powersupply into a Dell XPS 8500 is a bit of a trick.   All ATX Power Supplies have about the same Height and width  (150mm or 5.09" wide)  and (86mm or 3.38" high).    The problem is the Depth.   How deep into your PC can it reach  (extending towards the back side of your CD/DVD).   Don't forget, you have that tiny sunken  USB/Headphone jack -- midway on the case top.  That port has  cable poking on the underside:
I did some measurements, and realized that the MAX PSU depth that would work would be about 165mm or about 6.5".     That's tricky because I wanted a 750w plus power supply, and its REALLY, REALLY hard to find a good power supply under with less than (180mm / 7.09").   And, that wouldn't fit.
You should also note that the PSU has is recessed, so you actually have to "Drop it in" about an inch from the back of the case, and then slide it back.  The PSU also lower than the motherboard (when the case is on it's side), so you can't angle it very much:
To get it in, you may have to push some of the cables from the "Top Breakout Port" flat against the "Top inside portion" of the case to give you a little room.     Dropping the PSU into place  took me about 4 tries (lowering it... then seeing which cords were in the way... pulling it out... rearranging and retrying) to get it to slide home to the back of the case.    After it was in,  I waited until I had everything wired before putting in the 4 PSU screws to mount it permanently into place.
I scoured every 700+ Watt,  80+ certified PSU carried by Newegg (as of 12/1/2014).   Then, I cross checked the newegg specs for each prospect with the manufacturer's website for verification.  I only focused on PSU's with at least 8 reviews, and then only if they averaged a 3.5 rating  (unless the low ratings were for frivolous things like rebates).
After looking up the specs on over 200 PSU's  (over a 5 hour period),   I only came up with 5 potentials:
    EVGA SuperNOVA 750B1 $69.99
    RAIDMAX RX-1000AE 1000W $119.99
    SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W $139.99
    CORSAIR AX series AX760 $159.99
    Coolmax 1200W ZPG-1200B $282.35
I'm not certain that I absolutely NEEDED to put in a new power supply.  The Dell shipped with a 470 watt PSU.   The EVGA GTX 970 is rather efficient  (compared to other cards) and apparently only draws about 175watts.    The calculations were close because I have the SSD, 3 hard drives and a DVD.   In the end, I elected to switch out the power supply for $69.99.   The machine is 2 years old, and has been on 24/7 for almost 26 months.    Plus,  (as I discovered later) the new PSU has a bigger fan and vents heat more efficiently.
When hunting for a PSU,  I want to reiterate why you MUST ensure that any PSU you get is 165mm or less in depth, and you can't tell anything by looking a a particular series.   Many manufactures have single models within a series that is just "smaller".   You have to look at the specifications of each individual model.      If you can find PSU around 150mm (5.09" deep) you will have a much happier install experience, but you may have to settle for something in the 500-650w range.
Using EVGA PSU's as an example --  All the EVGA models over  700 watts (except the one I found) are (180mm / 7.09in).    Only the Supernova 750B1  is 165mm.   As a trade-off,  the 750b1 is rated at "Bronze" efficiency rather than "Gold" or "Platinum".   This isn't bad, and may makes sense.  The ratings only deal with "Power Efficiency" not quality of build.   Compared to the OEM Dell, these are in a different class.    I suspect that the 750B1's  "BRONZE" rating is what allowed the smaller form factor.   Most high-wattage CPU's use the increased depth for larger heat sinks and heat dissipation.  The bronze runs slightly warmer (compared to  Silver/Gold/Platinum -- but not to the origional PSU in the Dell) , but it allows the required  15mm reduction in size that lets it fit into your case.   The quality of the PSU is still more than adequate for my needs, and the price can't be beat.
Now for installation.   I won't say it was EASY to get the PSU into the case.  I had to disconnect all my SATA power and cables.  I had to bend the cables on the ATX Case Top a little bit, and I had to be very patient reconnecting.
I also had to reroute the wire that ran from the top of the case to the Mini-Card Slot (?).   I honestly didn't know what those were  (they sit behind the Rear USB Plugs on the mother board), and they snap on with tiny little clasps like the snaps on Jeans.  I tried not to disconnect them (becasue they looked fragile) but I accidentally popped them off.   Thank goodness, they fasten back on.  There are even little arrows above each terminal (one solid black, one an outline to indicate white) so you get them back on in the right order:
I found it handy to stuff many of the cables in the empty "Floppy drive" spot below the CD Drive.   I also found that I had to plug the cables in a certain order -- because some cables blocked off access to the terminals for others.   (The SATA/Power for the CD Drive, for example is right behind the PSU.  I had to do those first, because I'd never get my fingers in there if I saved that for last).
Now for the pre-install preparation.   I'd updated the BIOS to A12 and downloaded the installer for the GeForce drivers before switching out my hard ware.
The A12 Bios driver's are a couple of years old, but they allowed detection of my GTX 970.   Although traditional wisdom usually says,  "Don't update your BIOS unless you are trying to solve a problem", I elected to just install the A12.   From my reading,  the only people who seem have had problems seem to be those who didn't buy EVGA cards,  have XPS 8700's (not 8500)  and/or didn't install the A12 bios.
Sure, if you read the A10/A11/A12 bios release notes --  none of the fixes cited in the updates say anything about video card detection.    BUT, consider this:
"If decision to keep the A09 bios prevents your newly installed video card from displaying the desktop, do you REALLY want to temporarily REMOVE all that hardware JUST so you can install the A12 Bios?  And then, put all that new hardware back in again?"
Not me.  I considered the update "Low Risk" considering the alternative.  Plus, I consider the  risk of "Accidental Damage while Handling Hardware" to greater than a potentially frivolous BIOS update.
Somebody asked me, "Which version of the Bios did you install?"   It's an old one, and the only one on the Dell site for an XPS 8500 (Early 2012 edition):
Dell XPS 8500 / Vostro 470 System BIOS
    A12.EXE
    Release date 29 Oct 2013
    Last Updated 31 Oct 2013
    Version A12
The A12 BIOS update is cumulative (includes A09, A10a and A11), so installing A12 will bring you up to the most recent version (incorporating all the versions in between).  You do NOT need to install any of the interim versions.
I uninstalled all my old ATI Drivers before I shut down the first time.  I didn't install the Geforce drivers until after I switched out my hardware.  (I just wanted the installer on my desktop -- ready and waiting).
All in all -- it worked.  The card extends about 2-4" further into the case, but it fits.  The PSU sits about 4" away from the back of the CD, but it fits.   And, it boots.
I just finished playing "Far Cry 4" on the Nvidia setting at 2560x1080.   The new setting (beyond Ultimate) showed up after I plugged in the card.  I've also been playing Assassins Creed Unity  (Which I picked as my free game with the card -- since I already had Far Cry 4).   Both seem to play 60fps without any issues.
Because of the fan on the PSU and the video card venting out the back, my machine actually runs cooler now.
Hope that helps.   My total cost was around $435.  $349 for the card and $69 for the psu (plus tax).

P.S. If you are wondering about that weird brace to the right of the  PSU...   I added a 3rd hard drive below the CD Drive.  There are only the "Front mounting holes" , so I got a little creative and straightened out one of the "PCI Mounting Plates" from an old ATX Case.   I bent the section with the screw fasteners with a pair of pliers,  and the bracket as the perfect length to attach diagonally -- as a cross brace to hold the back of the hard drive in place:
