"SD card is Blank or has Unsupported Files" Help!

My family and I went out all together the other night and took a few pictures... When I got home and checked my phone there was an icon at the top that looked like my SD card with a question mark on it. I looked at it and it says "SD card is blank or has unsupported files" and my pictures that I took using my phone are no where to be found. I still have pictures that have been sent to me via text message or pictures I have downloaded from the internet. I have tried restarting my phone, connecting my phone to the computer, inserting my SD card into a usb adapter then inserting that into my computer, and taking the battery out of my phone for a few seconds. None of which have helped. When I plugged my phone into the computer it brought up only the pictures I can see already on my phone but none of the ones I took myself. I downloaded a recovery program... free trial, and when I plug my phone into the computer the program doesnt sense the device for me to recover anything from. My parents live in California and I really really want to get those pictures back... Someone please HELP!

Alas I have a question, did the photos save to the internal memory? You have ti change the settings in the camera mode to save to sd card.
Secondly, did you format the card in your settings for the sd card? It has to be formatted to your device to really work well.
Third there is a app called Astro File Viewer Browser from the Google Play Store that you can view the sd card files, photos, documents etc. With ease. It also lets you view and transfer from internal memory to the sd card. You can also search for the photos within each internal and external storage.
The photos may be in internal memory.
Good Luck

  • What company can retrieve photos from a micro sd card? Another casualty of SD Card blank or has unsupported file system

I have a Droid X with a sandisk 16gb micro sdhc class 4 installed.  This card has been in use for about a year and wasnt even half full.  I was playing music on thanksgiving and all of a sudden the music stopped.  I thought hmm, It must be doing one of its many reboots.  It wasnt shut off but was on my home screen and the music player had closed.  I went to my music and the songs were still listed.  I tried to play one and got the error message that i  cannot play this file.  I tried again and the songs disappeared and up came "SD Card blank or has unsupported file system" on the top bar.  I tried to view files on the card on my phone and on my computer by using an sd adapter with no luck.  I popped another card into my phone and it worked with no error message and i could mount and unmount the card and view the picture I took when viewing the new card on my computer.  I have a 9 year old daughter who suffers from multiple chronic illnesses and have probably 200 photos on my card of her including an extensive surgery and recovery earlier this year.  If a professional can retrieve my photos, I would like to know more.  Im coming up on my contracts end and this has me ready to zip up a life vest and get on another boat altogether. I have seen hundreds post about this on boards but I hope this can be resolved.  Thanks in advance.

        Hi Matt73,
I use my phone to store all my precious moments too and I can just imagine how frustrating it must be to have memory card issues like the ones outlined in your post. I see that you have tried different things to retrieve your files from your memory card to no available. It appears that your SD memory card somehow became corrupted and most likely the data in it is now lost (sorry). While not a common issue, there is always a possibility for memory cards and any other memory device to fail. SanDisk Memory cards carry 5 year warranty, to get a replacement please contact SanDisk at 866-726-3475. Their hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. PT Monday to Friday or by email at [email protected] at your convenience.
I recommend backing up your media (specially pictures) on a regular basis to your computer or to an online service to protect those special memories, I personally have my phone setup to automatically save the pictures I take to my Google  account and even if lost my phone I have a copy of all my pictures online. There are several website that allow you to sync your phone to upload pictures automatically. Please consider a similar option going forward.
On a personal note, I hope that your little girl's health improves that all those chronic illnesses are kept under control by your physician; I have 2 kids and I Know what is like when they don't feel well. Have a great day!

  • SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem error  Help!?!?!

While taking pics yesterday I got a notification that stated "Blank SD card (SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem)". This SD card is in my Motorola Droid X (which I have only had for 8mnths).  I am not able to take pics, lost all photos and music that was on my phone.
    SanDisk 16gb Micro SD HC
I tried 3 different computers and none of them will recognize the SD card. (with adapter and usb cord)
I have not done a format on the card yet incase there is a chance to recover the missing data.
If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks!

Don't expect Verizon to do anything about it. I tried last week on both the 800# and in the corporate store across from work and they both pretty much told me it's not their problem and I was SOL.
best thing you can do is just shell out a little money to get your own card and not deal with VZW about it. They don't care as they consider the card a 'freebie' and will do everything in their power to avoid having to replace it (some stores will actually do the right thing, but very few and far between). Amazing how a card that is worth to Verizon about $5 at the most will have lost them a customer becuase they can't be bothered to replace something that the phone came with, yet they say is Motorola's problem
good luck with getting it fixed

  • Why my SD card is blank

My SD card is blank or has unsupported file system. Can anyone tell me why and how to solve problem

Yikes!  I'm not sure what happened, but you may be able to retrieve what's on the card using recovery software.  It's been a number of years since I've used one, and I can't remember which one I used ... you could Google it.  There's also one mentioned in this thread:

  • File Import Failure; File has unsupported compression type!

I completed editing my movie about two weeks ago did all the colour correction audio etc last week, and aim to complete the sutitling tomorrow!
But now the problem is that my some of my files are now offline and can't be relinked because I get an error message which says "File Import Failure; File has unsupported compression type"
These files are .MTS which I believe are AVCHD.
So I don't know what has happenned here. Is it the recent update that has caused this or something else?

This have happend to me twice now.
If I remember correctly it have to do with Cloud membership in my case. Both times I have been away on work and when I get home I have a email stating that payment have failed. After I set it right I start up Premiere and I get this failure.
First time the solution was uninstall Everything Adobe and run clean script. Reinstalling did the trick.
That solution is not working in the long run.
Here Adobe needs to do something soon!

  • R3D Damaged or Unsupported File

    Hi all-
I'm pretty stumped by this problem.  I have a ton of .R3D footage shot on a Scarlet.  Most of the footage imports fine into Premiere Pro CS6.0.1, but some of the files won't import.  They give me the "Damaged or Unsupported file" warning.  What is interesting is that some of the "damaged" clips are from the same card/shoot that contain other clips that play fine.  This is happening to me and 4 other editors I have been working with.  I've searched all over the internet trying to find a solution to this and have found that many RED users are running into the same thing.  Some people suggest restarting the program and trying it again, which I have done to no avail.  I've watched the clips in RED CINE-X and they play fine.
At this point I'm stumped.  Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution?  I know I could go ahead and transcode the clips, but with about 100 clips that give this warning, I don't want to have to do that.  Is there going to be an update from Adobe that could solve this?
Thanks in advance for you help,
    -Mark

  • Unsupported file, unable to play

Im going crazy. Ive just bought a Mac, installed the Nokia Mulitmedia Transfer and have loaded my mp3s onto my Nokia n73 phone. The audio files are all there in my music folder on the n73, artist names and everything are correct, but when I try and play them I get an "unsupported file. Unable to play" message. Ive tried everything I can think of to get them to play but cant get them to work.
The weird thing is, before I bought my Mac 2 weeks ago I had a Toshiba PC. I keep all my mp3s on a an external hard drive and used to use Nokia PC Suite to load my mp3s onto my n73 when I had the Toshiba. The mp3s used to play fine on my n73 and there were no issues. Now that Ive switched to the Mac suddenly my n73 wont support the same exact files it would back when I had my Toshiba.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Can anyone help me and get my music working on the phone? Please......

i use the NMT software on my mac also, and have no issues.
    here are my ideas:
    1. any chance the filenames are improperly read by macosx?
    - just browse the files and look for odd symbols in the names like small squares, or any other odd symbol. windows has a strange way of supporting extended character sets as well as long filenames and this can result in strange file names. if you have this problem, you'll likely see it on lots of files, so dont worry about checking every file. just skim through them briefly.
    2. are you using itunes? NMT has nice itunes integration, which i use. i havent tried manually copying the files to where they belong, but it sounds like you may be doing this.
    - if you ARE using itunes, the problem might be due to the itunes library being in a non-standard location (the external disk). lots of people have had issues with applications being moved out of the standard location (dont move isync, you'll stop syncing) so perhaps this affects data as well. lets assume this is not your problem for now, but keep it in mind. maybe you can copy a few tracks over to itunes and see if just hose few play properly.
    - if you are NOT using itunes, could you describe the process you are using? do you use the device browser to drag and drop files to a microSD card? do you use bluetooth device explorer to send files? what exactly are you doing - i'll reproduce it on my machine to see that it works/fails.
    3. NMT provides the ability to transcode files. you can adjust his, but the default settings is to only transcode files taht the device cannot play natively. this is not likely your problem.
    4. when you copy music to the phone, the NMT software does not "refresh" the phone's local library database. if you had music there before, then perhaps the database is stale.
    - open the music player. click options->refresh. (if this is not an option, then you are too deep in the interface, you need to click 'back' until you are at the main interface window. that sounds more complicated than it is - just look at the label for the right-soft-key. if it says 'back' click it. keep clicking until it says 'hide' but do not hide the app. now options->refresh will exist)
    good luck
    N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • Fed up with "Unsupported File format" crashes!

I really like Aperture - but, I am totally fed up with only being able to edit a few photos before I get the dreaded red/brown screen and the message of 'Unsupported file format' This cannot be the case as they are all .tifs and I have just edited several OK. My whole day is now one of 'stop/start' and either quit or sometimes 'Force quit'. Then Aperture works fine for another short series of edits - before the same problem recurs. It wastes a lot of valuable editing time - and completely spoils the otherwise pleasurable experience of using Aperture!
I have made a lot of scans from original slides via a Nikon Coolscan 5000 - using Silverfast I have converted these from 48 bit to 24 bit. However, the file size is still large at 100MB - to get the best from the slides. I then import these .tifs into Aperture 2.1. I am using a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 MB RAM. I have an external 24 inch monitor. The .tif files are on an external firewire hard drive - 500 GB LaCie. My Aperture library is in my pictures folder on my MacBook Pro.
Can someone PLEASE explain how and why I can make a series of edits fine in Aperture and then suddenly I get the red/brown screen and this unsupported file format message?
Is it a memory problem? Given that I need to edit such large files is it a problem for my (powerful) MacBook Pro? Or, is it a more general problem with Aperure 2.1?
Any advice - or solutions - PLEASE

It's a bug in Aperture 2.x with large files and/or large pixel dimensions on images (not clear which). I have submitted a bug report, as should anyone who is seeing this. You'll find quite a few threads on this if you search back. The error message is frustratingly incorrect: there is nothing whatsoever unsupported or wrong with the file format, it just leads you down some dead ends in trying to find a solution while you figure that out.
I could sometimes not even work on one image before it would do this. I went from 6GB to 10GB in my Mac Pro, and now I can pretty reliably work on two images before having to restart. So that to me smells like a memory leak or memory mismanagement of some sort is at the root of this, but who knows. We're all just waiting for each next release, hoping Apple has finally found and fixed this, because as you know they don't spend a lot of time discussing what bugs they're addressing; they just show up fixed eventually (one hopes!)
If anyone chimes in here to tell you it's your fault for working with such large images, just ignore them. There were releases of 1.5 that handled these images just fine, as Aperture should. It broke with 2.x.

    Hi s.cheslik,
It seems your MacBook Pro will not boot properly and it displaying an error message. Based on the information you have provided, it appears your MacBook Pro needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • Red Box - Unsupported File Type - Large Tiff - Large Scans - 10,000 pixels

    Hello All,
I am a user of Aperture 2.1, and I have grown to love the program except for one major issue. Large files that are imported into the program are simply unsupported.
I scan 6x7 medium format negatives (8649x10712 @ 530.2 megs) and 4x5 negatives (very large drum scans) into my system (new 8 core, 12 gig ram, 512 meg vidcard, 10.5.2) and the issues begin. A thumbnail is properly built. Once the thumbnail is selected, and a preview is built, the image appears briefly and is replaced by a red box soon with the text "Unsupported File Type". If I change views to full screen all I see is a red box with the same text. Ie. I can't work the image.
The files are perfectly fine. I work them in photoshop cs3 no problem, and I can view them with quick look preview no problem.
This is highly frustrating as I work primarily in larger formats and create large prints!
It seems like the bug occurs in files that have a side larger than 10,000 pixels. This is a massive issue to large format/panoramic workflow!
I have called Apple tech support and the techs claim ignorance. That could mean they do not know of the issue which does not bode well for a solution. I'm in the dark. Please shed some light!
    Three questions:
Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
Is there a workaround that doesn't involve cutting file size?
Has there been any acknowledgment from Apple support regarding this issue?
I am most frustrated as Aperture is billed as a professional product, but it is unable to keep up with the demands of a working fine art photographer.
Awesome product but needs some adjustments!
    photofl0w

William, thanks for your input, but I feel that your position avoids the primary issue. Aperture is a Digital Asset Manager, and as such, should be able to manage digital image assets.
From Aperture's Webpage: "See how Aperture lets you import, manage, and enhance your photos in one simple, integrated workflow." It says photos, not Raw photos. In fact, I'll take it one step further, in the tutorial CD that came with 1.5, the narrator mentions the 16-bit workflow in Aperture with Tiffs, more than once.
I purchased Aperture for management and integrated workflow. Apple states: "Now it’s even easier to cull through shoots, enhance images, manage massive libraries, and deliver stunning photos." No where does it say that the functionality of the program is limited to RAW files. Ie. Apple never mentions that Large .tif files are not supported.
I have 6x7 and 4x5 Scans, Masters, Working Images, Print files and Web images that I would like to organize, stack, label, rate, view versions simultaneously on my second screen, sort, arrange, and keyword. The program's basic functionality is thwarted by an issue that Apple has not owned up to.
If Apple had mentioned in its literature that large .tif's weren't supported I would not be posting this, as I would not have purchased the software. But nowhere, not in phone conversations with Apple Techs (3), not on their own Forums where other end users have hit a massive workflow brick wall, and not even after I mentioned to a One on One guru, has Apple said, oh, yeah, we are aware of it and working on it. There is no transparency here.
Now, I have purchased Aperture, learned it, and imported thousands of files into it. I like the program as I have seen it function with smaller files perfectly, but this large file issue needs to be overcome.
Regarding editing images, yes I use photoshop for the majority of my post-production. I then use a finely tuned Colorburst Rip on a nice Epson for my Fine Prints. Those are the functions of the respective programs. Aperture is a DAM, a program that among other things allows the end use to manage their files effectively and maintain a strong workflow.
Regarding space - esata is a beautiful thing.

  • IDVD: Files exported from iMovie 11, one works, one "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format"

I used footage from the same camera (taken on the same weekend using the same settings) in several different iMovie "projects". All were shared from iMovie 11 as "File" using the quality setting "SD 480p".
In Quicktime Player, all ".mp4" files will play and they show the following info in its inspector:
    Format: H.264, 854 x 480
                  AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
One exported file will drag, drop, and burn in iDVD just fine. The other two files show the error "Unsupported File Type : Unknown format" as soon as I try and drag them into iDVD.
The only difference I can find is that the one file that works is about 803MB, while the files that don't work are 1.87GB and 3.98GB.
All files and the iDVD project are in the same folder on my startup volume. I've tried deleting com.apple.idvd but that didn't help. I've tried rebooting and starting the iDVD project from scratch but I get the same results.
    Mac OS 10.9.1
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2
    Any ideas?

Hello Bengt and thank you again for the replies.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 which has very limited quality adjustments. In every case I chose the smallest size, which iMovie 10.0.1 calls "SD 480p (854 x 480)". I used this same setting on all exports.
I still have iMovie HD (6.0.4) and iMovie '11 (9.0.9) on my iMac so I tried both of them. In both cases, they could import only the file that works in iDVD. Both older versions of iMovie choked on the longer movies shared from iMovie 10.0.1.
I have many many hours into the editing of these clips and I do not want to have to go back and redo everything in an older version of iMovie. Might I be better off going with a different DVD creation software? Or am I out of luck? Because I can't really change iMovie 10.0.1's export settings, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do to get it to export it as something that iDVD can use (really, I can't even tell why it's different and why iDVD doesn't like it).
The software "WonderShare DVD Creator" has no issue with any of the files I've exported from iMovie 10.0.1.

  • Unsupported Files error - iphoto 08 (Camera Canon IXUS 80)

Over the last couple of weeks we have been getting unsupported file error when we try and import photo's to iphoto from our camera. The files are jpg's and it has only been happening since 2009. All our other photos (6,000) seem to be fine.
    Any advise appreciated.

It means that your other library has some form of corruption.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that doesn’t help:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Unsupported file type

I have a Droid Razr but I need some assistance. The phone has the Kindle App which I have no problem with so long as the book was directly from Amazon. The problem I have is that I get most of my books from other book sites and would love to be able to read read them on my phone. When I email the book to myself to download it to the phone, the attached book has the message "Unsupported file type" and I am not able to download the book at all.
Does anyone have any information about this and how I can get MOBI books loaded onto the phone? I have convertrd the format to PDF in Calibre and can download those and then I put them into the Kindle folder. I can then open them using the Kindle App. But in the Kindle app you don't have any of the options you would have if the book were bought from Amazon.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a way around this?  Thanks much for any advice

I just think it's odd that if I get an email with a book attached, the
attachment shows Unsupported file type. And then you can't do a thing with it.
You don't even get an option of any kind. I think at this point I am going
to  forget even trying to use Kindle on the phone. I don't want to have to
go to all  the hassle of connecting it to the PC. The only time I would want
to use it on  the phone would be if I was traveling and received a book, it
would be great to  just be able to download it to the phone.

  • Unsupported file type: broken reference movie in ...

This happened to me today, and I wanted to record this for search engines to find. It's probably a rare event and hopefully, dear reader, it will not happen to you.
So I import my FCE movie into iDVD, and iDVD tells me, "Unsupported file type: broken reference movie in (filename)", and won't import it. Okay, this movie is not self-contained, so let's export it again and see if that fixes things. No such luck. Other things I tried which did not help:
    * Exported movie both as a self-contained movie and a not self-contained movie.
    * Tried cleaning all FCE render files and rebuilding.
    * Looking through system logs with Console app.
    * Quit/restart iDVD.
    * Rebooting.
    * Seems that a LiveType fragment in FCE was not rendered completely for some reason. I drill down to find the red-lined unrendered fragments and render them. Then I drill down futher and find more. I render them all.
After a while, I notice that QuickTime Player can play the movie just fine, and I begin to doubt that I understand what "broken reference" means.
I finally try exporting the movie from FCE to a different filename. iDVD is OK with that! What's in a name? Something has remembered that the filename itself is bad. Must hunt down the cause....
Looks like some bad data is stored in the /Users/YOUR-NAME/Library/Caches/com.apple.idvd plist. It says the 'isValid' property for this filename is 'No'. That can't be good. I removed the entry for the troublesome filename with Property List Editor (developers have this) and restarted iDVD. That fixed it!
Those without Property List Editor can delete com.apple.idvd -- it's a cache, and iDVD will create a new one. Actually, a better practice is to rename the file until you're sure you haven't seriously broken iDVD.

I'm thinking I likely would have deleted both preference files. The one for iDvd as well as FCE and then started over with a fresh export of the QT ref. movie from FCE => iDvd
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
    com.apple.FinalCutExpress.plist
That is i'm guessing this is the correct plist for FCE since mine reads:
    com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    lastly, i'd do this:
