  • Graphics Card Not Recognized under Mavericks Update? MacBook Pro 8,2

Every since I updated my macbook to mavericks, my dedicated graphics card is not recognized under system profiler or any software on the computer. I have the Macbook Pro 8,2 (late 2011) and the upgraded dedicated GeForce graphics card from the factory. My system is just running off of the integrated intel graphics at this point and there is no option to switch back in system preferences. Is my card just dead in there or did mavericks ignore it? I have no other operating systems to check. Should I just make an applestore appointment and get it looked at?

    Found the solution ... finally!
Go to your system preferences - energy saver and then check if your Graphics setting is set to »higher performance«. Somehow the update to Mavericks change this setting to »better battery life«
Now both cards are recognized and running ... however, watch out: since I changed that setting, my fans are going crazy! ... so I'm not sure if I should keep it. It would be much easier if one could change the setting all the time without the need to logout and login again ... well, Apple though good isn't the Holy Grail

  • Token and smart card reader are not detected on Mavericks if not plugged on a USB port during system boot

Well, both token and smart card reader are not detected on OS X 10.9 if not plugged on a USB port during system boot. So, if I am already working within the system and need to use my certificates I have to plug the token or smart card reader on a USB port and restart Mavericks.
Token is a GD Starsign and Smart Card Reader is a SCR3310 v2.
    Thoughts?

SCS is a very good app, since I've read that Apple has discontinued support for PC/SC interfaces after the release of Mountain Lion.
(My previous installation was a Mavericks upgrade from Lion)
However, I don't know what and how to debug using Smart Card Services. Do you know any commands to use?
Apparently, the SC reader reports no issues: the LED is blinking blue when no smart card is present and becomes fixed blue when a smart card is inserted – according to the manuals, this shows that there is correct communication between the OS and the CCID reader.
I don't know what to do; I'm beginning to hypothesize it's a digital signer issue. In fact, my smart card only supports one application called File Protector (by Actalis) to officially sign digital documents. This application seems to have major difficulties in identifying the miniLector EVO.
The generic and ambiguous internal error comes when I try to manually identify the peripheral.
Athena CNS is one of the Italian smart cards and is automatically recognized and configured (so it's correct – no doubts about this), while "ACS ACR 38U-CCID 00 00" seems to be the real name of the miniLector.
(I'm assuming this because System Information also returns that the real manufacturer is ACS... bit4id is a re-brander)
However, when I click on it and then tap OK, it returns internal error.
As first attempt, I would try to completely erase&clean File Protector files to try a reinstall. Then, if this still doesn't work, I'd debug using the terminal.
    So:
    - Do you know any applications to 100% clean files created by an installer?
    - Do you have in mind any solutions that I might have forgotten?
Thanks in advance from an OS X fan!

  • HP Color Laserjet 4550 not recognized by Mavericks.

Okay folks, yeah, I know, it is an older printer. But, it's a work horse in excellent condition that gets the job done. The printer is Wi-Fi and also can do ethernet. Mavericks will not recognize either now to print.
I finally made the jump from Leopard 10.5.8 to Mavericks 10.9.2. Yes, I'm regretting it but had no choice since I needed to connect the phones and iPad to the MacBook Pro (mid '09). I never had any problems until I upgraded to Mavericks. Ugh.
Although HP and Apple say that the original driver should be okay, nope. So I found the updated driver and installed it. Nothing. I tried with JetDirect and IPP. Blank. It's like I have no printer and worse yet, no drop down list. Shall I say I am beyond livid? (Don't even get me started on other programs like my Adobe Creative Suite that it will not accept or my Outlook that I had to rebuild 2x since "upgrading" the OS a week ago!). I did try the eprintcenter.com for HP but there is no printer key code for it to work.
So now, I turn to the folks here as my saving grace. With the exception of having to buy a new printer which is out of the question at this point in time, how did anyone else fix this Mavericks mess?

"Not recognized" doesn't really explain exactly when/where you have a problem. What drop down list are you referring to?
    Install this driver download:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now, reset the printing system.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
Now Add the printer using IP address and HP Jetdirect protocol.
If the correct driver doesn't show up, you can try generic HP PCL 5.
(Please respond with exact results/error messages if you want more help.)

  • External hard drive not recognized by Mavericks?

I have a Western Digital My Passbook 500GB external hard drive connected to my MacBook Pro via USB.
It worked fine until I upgraded to Mavericks.  Now it is not recognized at all in my Finder.
When I go to Disk Utility, it finds it and says "not supported".  When I do "disk verify" it says it needs to be repaired.
When I try to repair it, it says it can not.

  • MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

    Hi,
I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?
    Thank you

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

  • My newly purchased Kingston 19-in-1 card reader is not recognized by the Mac

I just received my Kingston 19-in-1 card reader and connected it directly to the back of my iMac (iintel) running on OS X Lion 10.7. It did not show up. I checked Disk Utility and it shows the following:
    Info EOS Digital
Name: EOS Digital (my Canon DSLR)
    Type: Partition
    Mount Point: Not mounted
    File System: MS-DOS (FAT 32)
    Connect bus: USB
    Writable: Yes
    Capacity: 4.11 GB
    Can be formatted: Yes
    Partition number: 1
I am positive the problem is due to the MS-DOS (FAT 32) file system (my other laptop is a PC running on Windows Vista), but I  don't
know how to fix this. Since i did not want to lose any files on my CF card, I took a blank formatted card (formatted in camera) and took 2 photos. When connecting the reader to the Mac it did not register.
I have a Sandisk 8-in-1 card reader which worked just fine on the PC, and the Kingston reader also works on the PC (after i tried all the above ). I have read other forum discussions whee people say that the Kingston card reader works on their Mac
I am getting desperate. Can someone help me?
By the way, I checked on two Apple Stores to try and get tech support and got "voice mail jail" which is most disappointing. I suspect this is Apple company policy forcing me to make an appointment (which I am willing to do, but for heavens sake, don't cut me off on the phone!)

Thanks for your response. I plugged the Kingston card reader into my Mac this morning before turning on the computer and lo and behold, the test photos appeared. I wonder if there is a procedure where one as to do certain things first (e.g., connect card reader first before turning on computer). I will stick to the same computer port from now on. I do not consider myself out of the woods as I have to try this using Adobe Lightroom to post-process my photos.
As for the software updte, Kingston advised that the update is not compatible with Macs, so I did not update.

  • Hard drive not recognized by Maverick

I updated my operating system to Mavericks, but now my computer doesn't recognize my external harddrive. How do I fix this?

Many a hard drive with built-in backup software don't stay current with the operating system.  Your best bet is to connect the drive with an older machine, and remove the backup software.

  • Email invites not recognized since Mavericks update

    Hi!
I updated my Mac Mini server to 10.9.2 and OS X server to 3.1.
Since the update the calendar server is having issues sending out proper email invites.
For example when sending invites to someone who uses Outlook / Exchange, they are not able anymore to directly accept the invite. The .ics file is named as: "not supported calendar message.ics
This seems to happen on multiple Exchange servers. We can open the ics file and accept it, but the ical server doesnt seem to recognize the answer. I made sure the answer was in the mailbox thats being used by the ical server
We setup the server to use a gmail account for monitoring email invites.
The ics files generated by the ical server are containing much less lines that before the update:

  • "USB Hardware Not Recognized by Windows"

Please help. I keep getting an error mssage "USB Hardware not Recognized by Windows" I believe i have tried it all. Uninstalled Itunes. Reinstalled Itunes.
Okay I just tried pluggin it in as I typed this and it worked. The only thing I did diffrent was I unplugged my External Back-up drive.
Is this Common? Can anyone help explain this to me?

I have a combo floppy drive/USB 2.0 card reader and I believe I have the same problem.
I'm not over-clocking and while USB shows up in WinXP in device manager the card reader is not recognized by the system even though I KNOW I have it connected correctly.  The floppy works fine.
I believe the 4 USB ports on the mobo are non-functional but can't test it until Thursday sometime.
Hopefully this is correctable with a BIOs update.
Anyone else have issues with the USB ports on the mobo and if so, were you able to fix it?  How?

  • Card reader no longer recognized

My Imac builtin card reader is not recognizing an SD card when it is inserted--have tried several that have been recognized fine in past. This has never happened before. Any suggestions?

Please do a SMC reset, if that doesn't have restart in Safe Mode to clear some caches. Please report back what occurs after trying new cards.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

  • EHD under snow leopard not seen under maverick

    Hello Apple Community,
I've recently bought a brand new Macbook pro under Maverick. The External Hard Drive, used on my old Macbook air under snow leopard, is not recognized by Maverick. That's strange because it is seen and can be used on the other laptop, but not on the new one.
In the finder preferences, the box "show EHD" is checked.
But when I use the disk utility, it sees only the hard drive on the laptop, not the EHD...
Does anybody have a solution for this?
    Thank you>

Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.

Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.

I've checked the power settings restarted but still no recognition
thought it may have been the reader
    but the company replaced it
the brand new reader is the same
    any ideas

figure out how to use this Maxell battery pack
Could you possibly be a bit more specific?
Do I just need to update my software?
Probably not. You could try but since it said, “the currently attached accessory is not supported by this ipod." I would think this means the iPod does not support it.
