SD card not shown in Finder, but shown in iPhoto

Hej all,
I have a problem with my SD card. It was shown by Finder on my iMac and it was shown in iPhoto too. Since a while no SD card is shown in Finder, but each SD card is still recognised in the Finder. I have a guess: I think, that I unconciously moved the SD card from the Finder to the s Desktop. Since then it's not in the Finder anymore, but also not on the Desktop. How can I get the card back also into the finder?
Hope someone can help me.
Markus

See if pressing the Eject key ejects the disk. If it works, restart your Mac then re insert the disk.

  • SDHC Card not recognized in finder but shows up in disk utility.

I have an SDHC card that I can only find in the disk utility. When I try to verify it won't. It also won't let me try to restore it.
    Info:
    Macbook Pro
    Mac OS X 10.7.4
    32 GB SDHC
I have also tried this on a 24" iMac that is also 10.7.4 with the same problem.

    Very bad.
If select the SDHC card in Disk Utility, what does Disk Utility have to say about it?

  • External hard drive not visible in Finder, but is operating

iMac, 2 Gb RAM, Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
It has 4 external USB drives attached through a powered hub. All of a sudden, after about a year, one of them no longer shows up in ‘Finder’. However, all four drives have an icon on the desktop. The drive is visible and verifiable in ‘Disk Utility’. Double clicking the desktop icon opens the drive and I can copy a file from it. iTunes can see it. From a Macbook’s ‘Finder’, over WiFi, I can see and copy files to and from the drive. Finder Preferences shows nothing amiss. I’ve shut down and restarted the iMac several times with no change. The drive just does not show up in Finder on the host iMac.
Searching this forum has not helped. Any suggestions?

Well, this is embarrassing. A suggestion from an older thread on Macrumors.com called "Hard Drive does not appear in Finder / Desktop", solved this problem. Simply drag the missing drive icon from the desktop to Finder! Perseverance and different search wording AND reading a lot of stuff pays off.
If other's problem is not solved with this fix, you might benefit from this 10.5-based thread. They also mention an Apple 10.5 fix. Both URL's below.
The op's problem was that the drive did not appear in Finder OR the desktop but was operational. There was a lot of in-depth information with this fix embedded.
Thanks for the interest and suggestions.

  • /Applications Folder not opening in Finder but works in Terminal

    Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to Yosemite, but I'm not sure if this is a Yosemite-related bug.
My application folder (/Applications) does not open in finder (see screenshots)
The spinner keep spinning in the bottom right corner.
Also, when I "Get Info", it keeps calculating the size and never completes.
Also, when I drag the Applications folder to the dock, nothing happens.
However, it works fine in Terminal:
    $ cd /; ls -lh
    drwxrwxr-x+ 129 root   admin   4.3K Oct 17 03:14 Applications
When I go inside the Applications folder (in terminal), I can list all the files in it.Oddly enough, most of them are greyed out, and it only says "total 8" when I have way more than 8 apps.
    $ cd /Applications; ls -lh
    total 8

I can even open my apps in Terminal:
    $ cd /Applications; open Notes.app
Mission Control works fine as well.
Does anyone know how I can see my Applications in Finder?
I've tried the usual Disk Utility (verify/repair permissions) and even reinstalled a fresh copy of Mac OSX Yosemite (using recovery).
Note: I did mess around with ~/Library/Preferences immediately after installing Yosemite because of the background flashing bug (I deleted some plists files to fix that bug).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Drew, I have previously done everything you have listed as possible remedies, with no success.
Well in that case the options I see are…
    1.
This seems like a 'defaults write tweak' or similar system level modification that is failing on the latest OS.
Revert any applied system tweaks from apps like Secrets or Onyx, that is if you remember applying any (these can be things like 'no-glass dock', no shadows on screenshots etc).
Your Terminal may have the command history saved. Try 'history' in that app to see if you have any 'defaults write' changes listed. Post them here for help to revert them.
It seems likely to me that the 'background flashing bug' mentioned earlier by helloziy was fixing a bad defaults write setting (preferences store the defaults write tweaks). If you have one 'bad tweak', there are probably others elsewhere on the system.
    2.
I would consider backing up, erasing the internal disk & clean installing the OS. Migrate ONLY your user data back to the new install (avoid Applications & 'other files' - they could be the reason for this issue). You will need to reinstall apps as you need them.
    3.
Another possibility is using EtreCheck to view what everyone has installed & running…
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
It would basically be a case of comparing affected reports & then removing or reinstalling apps until something changes (a crapshoot).
Etrecheck will not tell you about any 'defaults write' or other system modifications.
    4.
I'd backup & consider removing all system preferences. This is drastic & may break many things until you alter the default settings!
Reboot into recovery mode & remove the contents of /Library/Preferences from the boot disk, it will need to be done in Terminal.
You need to do this when the OS isn't running because Mac OS will cache preferences and some values will be written back to new files even after deleting the original files. Keep a backup of the files handy incase the OS breaks on next reboot!
Sorry it's not a solution, but it may help some diagnosis that get you closer to one.

Well, I got the terminal utility to work alright, but the disk name, Extra 80 GB, which the program correctly lists, then won't work with the chown command. It picks up the Extra, then the 80, then the GB, and thinks they are all separate names, and then can't find any of them.
    I thought I was there .........

  • Png's are not shown in finder but in preview

In the system log I find:
mac Finder[216]: [QL] Display bundle <QLNSImageDisplayBundle: 0x1169bd070> did not return a layer although it was required to because it did not return a view either.
That may cause the problem to appear.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Venkat,
You need to run 1) Full User Sync, 2) Full Role Sync, 3) Full Profile sync if you are using profiles, 4) Full Risk Analysis and 5) Management Reports to see SoD violations.
I did not understand meaning of this statmenet:
"SOD's are shown for the different system's the user has same Roles in the two systems."
What do you mean by this?

  • T-code not in any role but shown in the SUIM report

    Hi friends
I have a t-code which is not any role, but when i run the SUIM reports for Where used list>Authorization Values>In Roles by entering the S-tcode in the Object1 field and t-code in the entry value field the report brings out a role where this t-code is used. I have been into that role and checked if that t-code is in the menu tab, but i could not find  it. I also ran the SUIM for Roles By Complex Selection Criteria but i could not find a role where this t-code is in. But how come when i run the report for Where Used list it brings this t-code
Any quick thoughts on this are highly appreciated as this is a High priortiy.
    Thanks in advance

    Abhishek Belokar wrote:Hello Abhishek,
As Alex indicated, you can use this FM (function module) to correct inconsistencies, primarily on the UST* tables which are used by SUIM. If you have been doing a lot of  manual changes to authorizations and using ranges, then this can happen (particularly so if you are changing authorizations in production...). As far as I know, in the latest SAP releases (from 6.40 onwards) this should not normally occur that easily...
I looked into this FM a bit, as I have not used it in quite some time now (see above comments).
Right upfront, the function group name which it belongs to (SUSI) has a "(FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY!)" comment in it...
Perhaps you also read that comment (which is activity '03')...
I was however not able to generate a test environment and execute it, because I am not authorized for SUSI... (see SAP note 587410 to distinguish between them).
I did find reports which call this, so you might be lucky there (and not need S_DEVELOP authorizations to do this... but without the table_type = 'X')
However, I did try to make a bit more sense of it, without actually running it... (some corrections to my above post - but still not authoritative on the topic)
table_type 'U' = (which is default) synchronizes USR04 from UST04, however UST04 might still have phantom entries in it.
table_type 'P' = synchronizes UST10* from UST04, though how that is meant to work I really dont know.
table_type 'A' = synchronizes UST12 from UST10*, see above and also includes "BIS" values.
    table_type 'X' = syncrhonize UST04 from USR04, then table_type 'U', 'P' and 'A'.
Running it "just for fun" is okay in a sandbox...
Running it in a production system.... is also okay to fix a mess once you are there... but you could seriously disrupt the business processes (see above comment about manual changes, also in production).

  • HT204384 My SD card wont read in FInder but will show in disk utility, any advice?

Hi, my card reader started to become inconsistant over the last week and it has now stopped reading cards all together. It will show up in Disk utility so i can format it etc but it just wont show in the Finder section. When i remove the card without prompting, i get the 'Failed to eject properly' message. Any advice would be appreciated. I only purchased in Nov 2011 brand new so not sure what operating system it is but you may know from date of purchase.
    Thanks
    Rob

I had this problem too on my MBP mid-2012 running Mavericks.  SD cards (in MBP slot or USB reader) would not show up in Finder.  I was able to see them mounted in Disk Utility.  What tipped me off that they were in fact mounting (and led me to check Disk Util) is that the OS complained of improperly ejecting the sd card when I removed it.
To clarify what BDAqua said, but I didn't understand until I saw another thread, here's what fixed my problem:  Click on 'Finder' 'Preferences', select Sidebar tab and tick the box 'external disks' in the Devices section.
Now my sd cards show up.  Thanks!!

  • Files not seen in Finder but available from application

This is a really bizarre problem that I can't quite make sense. I was using a program called 'Transmit' and noticed that a folder I have on my external hard drive suddenly disappeared. The folder was no longer visible in Finder. However, when I open the application it was created with (Logic Express) and attempt to open files from this 'missing' folder, it opens them without a problem. However, this folder continue to remain hidden from Finder. What is even stranger, is that when I use 'Whatsize' to scan my external drive, I still see the folder!!!
    Help!

There are two things that can make files and directories invisible to finder on a HFS volume, and that's the unix way, when a filename starts with a period "." and the mac legacy way with the invisible bit (a bit that can be switched for each entry in HFS).
I would suspect it is the unix way as the files came from a NTFS partition which cannot hold invisible bits. For the unix way you just have to rename the offending files and or directories to remove the dot (from the cli you would use mv) for example:
    mv ~/Desktop/.Copied_Directory ~/Desktop/Copied_Directory
For the invisible bit there is no default method built in... Apple have a cli tool called SetFile but you need to install the developer kit to get it. Alternatively there are various 3rd party apps that allow you to change the invisible bit. but i would find it very odd if this was the case... coming from NTFS.
Another easier way that lets to look at all files in the finder regardless of their invisibility is this:
Paste in terminal to show invisibles:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder
Paste in terminal to hide invisibles:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    killall Finder
If you still cannot see the files in finder... and you cannot copy the files via the terminal then i suspect the NTFS volume is corrupt... however that might just be the file-system not the files. Next stage would be to use recovery software to see if you can recover the data.

Have you tried the this part of the omne link you post:
    Additional Information
In rare circumstances, your device may be recognized after reinstalling iTunes, but after you restart your Mac, the device may not be recognized again. If this happens, and you are using Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard), please follow the steps in this article.

  • Photos in Finder, But Missing from iPhoto

I am able to see all my pictures dating back to 2003 using the finder and directly going to the iPhoto Library. Each folder in the Finder is there as it should be, including the folders for the rolls. However, the images don't show up when I launch iPhoto. How do I get these photos and those past albums to reappear in iPhoto?

    Jason
What do you see in the iPhoto Window? Utterly blank? Or some evidence of the pics, such as place holders?
If the window is utterly blank... hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the library... does that work?
If there is some evidence of the pics: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options
If neither of these work then you may have a corrupted database:
Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • G-drive not recognized by Finder or Disk Utility

I've been using this G-drive for almost a year now and have never had any issues. Today I just tried to use it to move some files off of my Macbook Air and not only would it not appear in Finder, but it doesn't appear in Disk Utility either. I've spent over an hour trying to find a solution but haven't, does anyone have any suggestions?

That whirring noise might be due to physical damage on the disk. I know data recovery services are costly but that remains only the solution for damaged HDD. You can get latest quotes on services from different dealers. Proceed only when your data is very important to be recovered.

If the startup disk is for Mac OS 9, neither MacBook nor PowerMac G5 can boot into 9. Only the PowerMac G5 can use Mac OS 9 in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Classic.
Please be more detailed what sort of Startup Disk you are talking about, which operating system, and which machine this is a problem with.
