SD card only works if inserted at boot up in a Pavilion p6-2419 Desktop

I recently updated my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Now, my SD card reader does not work. The only way I can get it tio work is by putting an SD card in the reader slot prior to turning the computer on. The system seems to load a default driver but only if it sees a card inserted. If I start the computer with no card inserted, no driver is initiated and therefore it won't recognize a card when inserted after. I have gone to the driver updated page for my computer and no driver is listed. Is there a Windows 8.1 driver available for this reader?

OK, I guess I need to be really specific here.
First of all, my SD cards work just fine in my HP Pavilion g6-1d44ca Notebook PC.
Secondly, this card reader in my desktop PC is an internal card reader that HP built into my desktop PC. I have no clue as to who the manufacturer is. I would certainly think that HP would know what components they used in their own PC's. If HP could tell me the manufacturer and make/model of the internal card reader in my desktop PC, then I would attempt to go to that manufacturer's website and try and find a driver for it. Since the before mentioned notebook pc of mine also has an internal card reader, I can go to the HP support page for that notebook and find the driver for it quite easily. I just look under "Driver - Storage" and there it is "Realtek Card Reader Driver". Amazing! However, when I go the the support page for this subject desktop PC, I find nothing for the card reader. Why?
Lastly, you tell me I should unistall the USB devices in Device Manager and reboot. Well this could be very problematic considering I use as USB mouse and keyboard and once I uninstall these devices, I will have no control over my PC and I will have only one option but to power the PC off rather than performing a normal shut down.
Please, if HP cannot provide me with the Windows 8.1 driver for the card reader component that they installed into my computer, at least tell me who the manufacturer and model is so that I can do it myself as it appears this effort is too much for the folks at HP to do it themselves in support of their customers.

  • I bought this iPhone from Apple Retail Store for the full amount, but  it does not work with my SIM card only works with AT&T

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 4S 32Gb White AT&T, product part No. MC921LL/A, Serial No. C39GMLPWDTDC
I bought this iPhone from Apple Retail Store (from Fifth Avenue, NY) for the full amount. Now it does not work with my SIM card only works with AT&T. I restored the phone several times, but I have not received "Congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked". Please activate my iPhone to work with different SIM cards
    Thanks,
    Best Wishes

    When did you buy it?
Apple did not begin selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 4S in the US until 11/11/11. I believe it went on sale only through the online store at that time. I'm not sure if it's available at retail yet.
What you purchased was a phone without a contract commitment. It is still locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason.  Return it and get your money back, then use that to purchase an unlocked phone.

  • Firefox only works after I re-boot my computer

I just got a new computer last week. It is running Windows 8 - 64 bit. I installed Firefox, used it for a week, set up my bookmarks, etc. and it worked fine. The other day when I logged in and opened Firefox, I couldn't click on anything - nothing would happen - it was like it was frozen. I went into Internet Explorer and also into Google Chrome and they both worked fine - I could click on things and it would do what it was supposed to do. So, I re-booted my computer and then Firefox worked fine. Same thing the next day, Firefox only worked after I re-booted my computer...and also today, same thing. Why is it frozen when I first go into it, but if I re-boot the whole computer, it works? Has me baffled. Any help would be appreciated, because it is my favorite browser. But if this keeps up, I won't be using it anymore. Thank you!
I have my home page set to Yahoo, so that's where it goes when I open it. When I get there, I can't click on my e-mail, nothing in the toolbar, it's totally frozen.

  • Upgrading Graphic Card (GTX 750 Ti Gaming OC Edition 2048MB) in HP Pavilion p6-2083sc Desktop PC

Hello, This is my computer before upgrading / out of the box Link to specs I bought new graphic card (GTX 750 Ti Gaming OC Edition 2048MB) today. With that I also bought new power supply (Corsair CX600M). I installed them and tried to boot my computer. My computer won't go very far. It shows me the HP starting screen. Then my computer "beeps" one time, then another and then third time. Then I got black screen with blinking underscore. I'm not able to enter bios at that point either, because the computer won't response to my keyboard. No matter what I press nothing happens. I tried to reset motherboard's CMOS (upluggin battery and then putting it back) but it had no effects. I don't know what to do, but the problem is definetaly with the GPU somehow. I changed the old GPU back and left new power supply in place and my computer works well with that setup. Some people from the internet claims that HP might have somehow locked the motherboard so that I'm not able to upgrade my GPU. Is that true or is there something else I need to do? Thank you in advance Best regerdsKivikall

Hello,Firstly, the GTX 750ti officially requires no 6-pin power connector, with a peak power consumption of just 60 watts. (PCI lane can provide 75watts max). reference:http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-750-ti/specifications I have exactly the same problem as you, except with a different video card. The problem is with the new 700 series from nvidia. They only work on motherboards which support UEFI, which is a new type of BIOS, but unfortunately do not support the traditional BIOS. The only way (to the best of my knowledge) is to update your BIOS. However, I checked your system on HP drivers, and unfortunately the are no BIOS updates which would upgrade to UEFI support, which is exactly my situation. The only other solution to buy an equivalent graphics from the 600 series, which supports traditional BIOS. I would recommend this: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX650E2GD5/ If you do choose to get the GTX 650, make sure you specifically get this one, as its the only card which would work with your power supply. Any others would use too much power for your computer to handle. I really think that Nvidia should issue a notice to warn people with older PCs not to buy the new series of cards, as my new card costed quite a lot and didn't work in the end. I am now looking to get the same card which I recommended to you. Best regards

  • Graphics card issue: works fine when in boot camp but OSX it has issues.

Hey guys. I've had my Macbook pro since 2011 and it used to run games pretty well on it but now it struggles really bad. If I boot into BOOTCAMP and play games it still works fine . Do you guys know what could be the cause of this issue and how do I resolve this?

Already tried that before. I don't even have any software firewall currently active, and the hardware firewall in my router does not block individual applications. It blocks ports instead, by IP address. My Avast AV software does not have anything that blocks applications either, since there is no firewall aspect to it, just the anti-virus software. Likewise, my Spybot S&D has no blocking capability either.
I followed all the steps in the article titled "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can" when I tried installing v24 and v25 last night, which included the steps from the article you posted above with regards to firewalls, as well as changing proxy settings, disabling IPv6 and DNS Prefetching, and resetting Firefox defaults from the troubleshooting page, which blew out all my settings, and still nothing.
I had tried all the steps I could find on these pages, which is why I thought I would post my issue, since I had run out of ideas. I even took a look at the info about the issue some people are getting where it works for them only if they are moving their mouse, but even moving my mouse didn't get any results for me.

  • Hd intel 4000 code 43 on windows 8.1 - It only works with an older driver version

Hi there I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 PC (HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14), with  a 18FA motherboard - version 82.23,  F.12 Bios, and a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.  The graphic card only works with the 9.17.10.2932 (12/12/2012) driver, and everytime I try to update to a newer driver version, it shows the "Code 43" error. Does anyone knows how to update the drive and solve the "Code 43" error? Without solving this issue, I can't install the Windows 10. I've tried to update to Windows 10, but it doesn't run this old graphic display driver and it only gives me a blue screen, and if I install a new driver version, there it comes the "Code 43" error. Thank you, guys.

  • Can I use a NVIDIA card only for Boot Camp in MacPro5,1

I bought an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and then found out that 3D (primarily for gaming) won't work with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card that I have in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.  I assume the easiest fix would be to put a NVIDIA card in one of the remaining PCI Express 2.0 x4 slots.  A post from 2008 said that 2 cards should work if only one is plugged into the monitor at a time - one for MacOSX and the other for Boot Camp.  I wanted to confirm if that still is the case for Boot Camp where I'm running Windows 7.  What would be a reasonable NVIDIA card that would not exceed power of 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots (no other PCI cards currently); primarily for gaming with 3D option.
This would be for a Mac Pro bought in Nov 2010.  Other relevant info:
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
BTW, HN274H works ok in 2D for both OS's.
    thanks!

300W is without using two 6-pin aux power video card cables, 75W per slot.
So as long as the 5870 is present you need to look into a 450W PSU to rig together to add 6/8-pin aux power to an additional card.
My understanding though is that a PC card under OS X needs support, the fan can run constantly.... not my forte as to how and what to expect.
    OSX and Graphics Cards
GTX 460 and above would fill your needs.

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

  • Boot Camp won't make a Windows XP driver disc, OS X disc only works with Win7

First time Mac user. Just got a new Macbook Pro.
I have successfully installed Windows XP on the Mac using Boot Camp. But I need the driver disc. The right mouse button doesn't even work and Windows is impossible to navigate without that. The disc eject button does not work, one has to eject a disc using laborious menus. Very frustrating.
When I run Boot Camp it only has the option to make a Windows 7 driver disc. I don't see any way to make a driver disc for Windows XP.
Everywhere I have searched on the Net the information says to put the OS X Leopard disc in the drive when WinXP is running and it will automatically install drivers. When I try that a window comes up saying it only works with Windows 7.
This web site shows screen shots of a Beta version of Boot Camp that makes Windows XP drivers discs.
    http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_install_windows_xp_on_my_mac_using_boot_ca mp_1.html
How can I make a Windows XP driver disc?
I really hope Apple didn't discontinue/eliminate the option to make a Windows XP driver disc altogether, forcing everyone to use Windows 7 only...
Is there a way to install an older version of Boot Camp over the latest version I'm running? Where would I find it?
    Macbook Pro
    OS X 10.6.7
    Boot Camp 3.0.4
Thank you for your time in helping me on this.

The retail OS X 10.6.3 DVDs unlike your OEM DVD does have a complete set of drivers for $29 w/o having to deal with questionable bitorrent.
Microsoft EOL'd XP and Vista SP1.
Your Mac has Intel Thunderbolt and you don't see Apple doing backward compatibility. You can't run 10.5 on new Mac. So yes it comes with those limitations, but XP is also 20x more vulnerable, IE9 is more secure and XP has not kept up with the latest hardware, besides which I don't see a place or need for a 32-bit OS, any platform today.

  • System only works on first power up after plugging in graphics card

I have a MSI Lightning R7970 that I purchased new however there's an odd problem with it that the internet does not seem to have answers to. Basically my computer only works for the first time after I plug in my graphics card into my motherboard and it works pretty flawlessly (including gaming for hours) until I shut it down or it goes into sleep mode. After that, the computer cannot power up fully but instead only keeps cycling with the fans turning on 1 second and turning off again. This happens all the time and definitely isn't a seating issue because I've gone through this a lot of times already.
If I take the graphics card out and instead rely on the motherboard onboard graphics, this issue doesn't occur at all. I've pulled out every other component in the system and spent multiple afternoons trying to find another cause but I can't find anything wrong. Everything in the system is new.
So should I RMA the graphics card? Or are there other settings I should check?
    My config includes i5-4670k, Asus Z87I-Pro, Silverstone ST70F-ES, Crucial Ballistix DDR3 4GBx2.

could be anything, BIOS/mainboard issue, PSU issue, ram issue
some kind of mainboard shorting issue

    Hello SBentley22,
I can only imagine how upset I would be to discover that over $1000 in gift card funds seemed to be missing. I certain that I would not do well with the additional complications that you've described either. I apologize for you and your boyfriend having to cope with this situation. Certainly this was never our goal.
I was unable to locate the purchases or returns that you mention using the information you provided when you signed up for Best Buy Unboxed. I would very much like to look into this situation for you and do what I can to help, but I will need more information to begin. If you will please send me a private message that includes your full name, telephone number, and the Customer Service PIN from the receipt where the gift card was issued, I'll get started with my research.

  • Airport will only work under Boot Camp XP

Up until a few days ago both my Mac Pro and iMac were working perfectly, both have Boot Camp installed and my girlfreind and I switch reguarly between OSX and XP.
Then the other day we both lost all networking on the OSX sides. The airport works fine under XP.
OSX says that it is connected yet does not get an IP address. I have tried swapping the drivers for older versions, removing the system prefs and rebooting, specifying an IP, reseting the router (Linksys) to factory settings, connecting via an ethernet cable, different channels on the router, different security types, no security at all. OSX just is not communicating with the router at all. I'm sure it isn't a hardware fault as the network is fine under XP. The network also has a PS3, PSP and Wii all working fine.
I'm very frustrated and have waste a whole day wrestling with this issue. Any help?

Same as running Windows on any hardware. You need a program to mount an .iso.
The other question might by 'why' but that is besides the point.
Or why this didn't work (lots of options)

I tried following the wiki on bcm43xx, copied the fwcutted firmware files to /lib/firmware , rebooted, loaded bmc43xx module, but nothing. Nothing on iwconfig or dmesg...
    Any ideas?

  • ATI 3870 only works on 8 lane

I've added an ATI Radeon HD 3870 Mac & PC Edition to slot 1. When looking at the Expansion Slot Utility the card does not show up when slot 1 is set to x16; doesn't show up in the System Profiler either. If I switch slot 1 to an 8 lane option, then the card shows up. Anyone know why I can't run the card in slot 1 with a full 16 lanes? The card doesn't work when the slot is set to x16, works otherwise.
I installed the drivers from the CD not knowing that 10.5.8 is suppose to already have them. But the card has the same problems when I boot off a separate drive that has only 10.5.8 installed.
    Thanks,
    James

Slot 1 is the bottom slot. That's where the card is installed. I have the old card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT) installed in slot 4. I switched it back to slot 1 and it worked at x16. Took it out, ATI card only, nothing; put the NVIDIA back so that I can have a working card while testing different configurations with the ATI card.
Right now the card is working with slot 1 set to x8.
Looking at the System Profiler, looking at PCI Cards, the ATI shows up twice. As:
Card:ATI Radeon HD3870, Type: display, Driver Installed Yes
    and as
Card:ATI Radeon HD3870, Type: ATY,MegaloddonParent, Driver Installed: No
Odd, that... at least to me.
    Thanks,
    James
