SD CARD READER OF HP Pavilion 13

SD Card reader on my HP Pavilion 13 suddenly stop reading and now does not appear on other devices on the screen. It was working well  and when I ejected a sd card to insert another one,  the sd card driver can no longer be recognize by the computer. Susan

Hi , Thank you for your query. I grasp that after ejecting a SD card you inserted another one but the card reader is no longer recognized by the computer. Please remember when posting to include your exact model of HP notebook and your operating system. HP produces more then one model of 13 x 360.  How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?  Assuming you are running Windows 8 here are some things to try. If you power off your notebook and back on is the card reader recognized again? Go to Device Manager. Is he card reader listed here?If it is try reinstalling the driver. If it is not listed try scanning for hardware changes to see if it can be recognized. Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 8) that has some steps to try. You could also try doing a restore back to when it was working.  HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) Next you could try a HP PCs - Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) If the card reader is still not seen in Device Manager  please contact HP support for assistance. Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support  To say thanks for responding please click the thumbs up button below. If this resolved your difficulty please tell people by choosing solution provided.  Good Luck!

  • USB CARD READER FOR HP PAVILION 500-C60 DESKTOP?

I have a new HP Pavilion 500-C60 desktop computer, but the front panel card reader does not accept the larger Compact Flash (CF) flash card.  I do have an older USB multi-card reader with four differing card slots, one of which accepts the CF card.  Would this arrangement work satisfactorly?

    Hello @shamrock838,
I understand that your HP Pavilion 500-c60 Desktop PC does not support the larger Compact Flash Memory Card and you are inquiring as to whether or not you can install a USB multi-card reader that accepts the CF Memory Card. First, you are correct the 7-in1 Multimedia Card Reader you do have installed does not support the CF Memory Card, but it does support the following cards:
    Secure Digital™ (SD)
    Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC)
    SDXC
    Memory Stick
    Memory Stick Select
    Memory Stick PRO
    Memory Stick MagicGate
I do not see why you cannot connect the 4-in1 USB multi-card reader that you have. As long as the operating system detects it and installs it you should be fine.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Internal Card Reader Driver Will Not Install -- Pavilion g4-1319tu

    1. Product Name and Number: HP Pavilion g4-1319tu
    2. Operating System installed: Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
    3. Error message: none
    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred: none
At first my card reader did not show up at all in Device Manager until after I actually inserted an SDHC card yesterday 17 jUNE 2012. Windows recognized the card and installed its own driver, Microsoft driver version 6.1.7600.16385 dated 21/6/2006, with the device's manufacturer being listed also in Device Manager as only "(Standard disk drives)" at Location 0, with the status shown as "This device is working properly". The card reader worked (and still works) and appears -- but only with the SD card inserted, otherwise it does not appear at all -- in both in Device Manager and in Computer>Devices with Removable Storage. I went to HP's Support Wizard site to update the driver. The site detected my product correctly and offered an update, "Realtek Card Reader Driver -Version: 6.1.7601.85" (sp55030) to download. I downloaded it and installed it. The newly downloaded driver shows up in Programs and Features. However, even after many uninstall / re-install attempts, the new driver version refuses to show in Device Manager's driver properties for the device. It also does not show when in Device Manager I try to manually update by "Browse my computer for driver software>Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer". All that shows is the old generic Microsoft driver named above. If while in Device Manager, I try to update the driver manually by "Browse my computer for driver software>Search for driver software in this location (folder where it is saved on my notebook)", it shows, but still will not update / install. A message pops up saying there is no driver in that location. In addition, after I eject and physically remove the SD card from my notebook, the device and driver also disappear from Device Manager until I re-insert the card, even when Device Manager is set to "Show hidden devices". Please advise.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop - Memory Card Reader Stopped Working

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9280t CTO Desktop PC ...  The memory card reader recently stopped working.  I believe, maybe the firmware, and/or driver was deleted by one of my optimization softwares. I checked the "Device Manager" list and was unable to locate "any" memory card device.  All the USB plugs work fine. When I place an SD card in the memory card reader slot, the light comes on, but the computer does not recognize the card. The card does not show up in my "Computer"  window with the other drives.  I checked the card out on my other computer, and it worked fine.   I also have an HP laptop that I tested my SD cards on, and the cards worked fine on my laptop.
I would appreciate any help, or suggestions, that any one might give.

  • How can I replace a 5 in 1 memory card reader in a HP Pavilion 500-027c Desktop PC

I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion 500-027c Desktop PC computer from walmart 2 weeks ago... The 5-in-1 memory card reader does not work... the device manager says that it is working properly but when I put in a memory card nothing happens... The white light comes on indicating that the memory card has been inserted but the computer does not recognize that anything has been done... I would like to just replace the card reader itself... I see on hp support where it is possible to replace the memory card reader (front I/O), but I don't know where to purchase the actual card reader itself... I don't have any specs on the card reader either.... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks that page really helped out alot.  And the card is a SDHC memory card.  Now I just need to look into ordering part # 713240-003. How would I go about doing that anyways?
I bought it refurbished walmart and it had a 14 day warranty... Is there any type of manufacturer warranty?

  • HP Pavilion dv6 card reader won't detect some SDHC cards

    Notebook Hp Pavilion dv6-6104so
    Windows 7 - 64 bits
The notebook's card reader won't detect some of our SDHC cards. We have updated the driver to the latest version, Realtek PCIE 6.1.7601.90, and the BIOS, but it still won't recognize some of our cards.
We have six SDHC cards, three SanDisk (4, 32 and 32 GB), two Kingston (8 and 8 GB) and one Integral (4 GB). The card reader recognizes four of them (4 and 32 GB SanDisk cards and one of the two Kingston cards). What is strange and that you may have already noticed is that the card reader recognizes only one of two cards with the same brand and capacity!
About the two cards that don't get recognized in our notebook, they work properly in their corresponding cameras and are detected without problems by another HP Pavilion dv6-3138so notebook card reader, as well as by two netbooks of ours from two different brands.
When we connect the cameras (one Canon and one Sony, both point-and-shoot) to the computer via a USB 2.0 cable, the laptop detects the cameras and through them we can access the cards.
We purchased the laptop less than two weeks ago in Helsinki, Finland.
Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hey Everyone,
Using a high capacity card in a standard card reader slot will cause this issue. Im going to guess that the cards you ar having issues with are the SDHC cards and not the standard SD cards. As Naoto stated, by using a camera as a card reader you an workaround this. You can also look into SDHC card reader adapters. Here is a good article on the SDHC cards: http://goo.gl/lj5Fq
    Hope this helps!

The sd card reader stopped working.  tried everything
    No error messages

    Hello @rusty99nail,
I understand that your SD Card Reader is not working on your HP Pavilion Elite HPE-500z CTO Desktop PC. Has it ever worked? If so I suggest you follow the steps in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) and roll your system back to a point in time where your SD Card Reader worked.
If it still does not work after the Microsoft System Restore I would like you to do a backup and recovery of your computer back to factory settings. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.

  • Pavilion g6 SD Card Reader

I have a Pavilion g6 Notebook, using Windows 7 OS. There is a flash memory card reader built-in on the left side of the notebook that reads SD/MMC.
Does this card reader read all SD cards, SD/SDHC/SDXC and UHS-1 (Ultra High Speed-1) standard SDHC and SDXC cards?
Is the class of the card, class 10, relevent to the reader compatibility?
I tried to find this information in the notebook information files, plus whether the notebook has USB 2.0 or USB 3.0, but I could not find the information any place.
The notebook is out of warranty, so contacting HP with these questions is virtually impossible.

We need the full model. There are a whole series of g6 laptops and the specs vary a bit. As for the USB, look at the port. A USB 3.0 port either has a blue plastic center piece or a S/S label (superspeed) next to it, or maybe both. This is a docking station but you get the idea:

  • HP Pavilion G6 SD card reader isnt working

    Hi,
I have new HP Pavilion G6 laptop and i cant operate the SD cared reader. Any card pluged into the SD slot isnt recognised

I know this is a bit of an old thread now , I was having the same problem. Looks like the card reader was disabled in device manager.
So, right click 'computer' on the start menu, then manage, click 'device manager'. Find 'realtek pcie cardreader' (under memory technology driver' and click 'enable'. Windows should find the device and you'll get a new drive letter appear.
    Hope this helps

  • Motherboard/card reader/overheating problem with pavilion dv2000 series

I bought an HP dv2845se notebook in April of 2008.  Soon after purchasing I noticed that the laptop would get extremely hot, sometimes to the point that it would burn my legs if I kept it on my lap too long.  After doing some research, I noticed that on some HP laptops the nVidia GPU could be defective and that HP recalled many of its notebooks' batteries.  However, my computer was not included in the recall nor the class action lawsuit against nVidia.  Almost since purchasing this computer, I cannot watch videos or play graphic-intensive video games due to the computer getting so hot that the video/game would become unbearably choppy.  In August of 2009, 4 months after my warranty was up due to the fact that I was not included in any extended warranty offered by HP, my hard drive stopped working.  Luckily I had purchased a service plan through Best Buy and they informed me that my laptop had gotten so hot that it damaged the hard drive beyond repair.  They replaced it but I lost all of my music and important documents for school.  Angry, I tried contacting HP support regarding the overheating issue and multiple people told me that since my warranty was up I would have to pay if I wanted anything repaired or replaced.  Fast forward to a few days ago.  My card reader and firewire port only work every few times I turn on my computer.  They show up as three Base System Devices and an IEEE 1394 Controller when not working and trying to update drivers does not work.  I have tried everything, including taking out my battery and holding down the power button.  After hours of research I have discovered that my motherboard is probably failing because the card reader still lights up when a card is inserted.  Is anybody else having these problems?  Am I correct in my diagnosis?  I would like to bring my computer back to Best Buy before my service plan is up to see if they could replace my motherboard.

If you still have warranty from best buy go use it. Compaint about the card reader and IEEE port. Fixing that items would be a complete motherboard replacement. dv2700 series with Nvidia GPU has been known as a "warm" notebook. I purchase 3 years warranty but till now still working fine with normal usage, barely not playing any games in it.

  • SD card reader on Pavilion g7 not working

I have a Pavilion g7 notebook, and lately the sd card reader hasn't been working. I use it to drag music files onto my phone's sd card (I have an adapter) but when I tried to do so today, it kept saying the drive was busy although it wasn't.
I read through the forum and kept seeing the recommendation to reinstall the Realtek SD reader. SO I did that, yet nothing has happened. Please help! I would love to have my music on my phone

FYI - to fix problem i had to do a manual install from Device Manager using the "have disk" feature. From that popup, pick the SD Reader, then Ricoh as the manufacturer, THEN click on Have Disk and choose the location for the extracted driver (C:\WIN\DRIVERS\MEDIA).
    Good luck!
