SD driver with SAN disk.

On Solaris 8 2/02 lastest new kernel patch, my server (V880 and SF15K) use jni card (FCE-6460) and use jni driver ( 5.x ). SAN disk is Hitachi 9960. I try to update new disk on the fly. After I use devfsadm command in order to reconfig devices. But system cannot generate new device. But I check JNI's ezifiber program. It see new disk. If I reboot system. System see new disk.
I would like to ask about sd driver. Can SD driver update new SAN disk on the fly? If SD driver doesn't support. Do you have plan for this method on sd driver ?

Sorry, I am unable to help you since I'm a new guy in this neighborhood.
I notice there are many unanswered questions in this forum. This needs to be improved. Come on Sun, jump in here and help us. Don't you care about your products and customers? I belong to a few other forums and this is probably the worst one.
I believe Sun needs to be involved in this and make this forum more active. It's good investment to help developers stand on their feet and get going when they're stuck with their problems. I can see people can get frustrated not knowing where to seek for help. After all, this forum is set up just for that purpose. But if Sun developers don't jump in here and help us, then this forum should not exist.

  • I have new hard drive in macbook pro(08) and have SATA cable with external power source to old hard drive (10.5.8)via. USB port and newer drive(10.6.8) will not recognize older drive..Do I need to partition newer drive with older disk to recover data?

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8  connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? Thanks Wayno08

You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.
You might want to check out the hard drive troubleshooting bootk in the downloads section of this web site:
    http://scsc-online.com
They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction  and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
    I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The  only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.
Disk Warrior can be found at:
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the  damage has already been done.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Erasing my hard drive with recovery disk not working

So recently I was infected with Security Central malware and ran an anti-malware removal program, which worked for a week or so. Yesterday it came back and after attempting to run the anti-malware program again, it cannot find any, though Security Central is still affecting my computer.
What the malware is doing is not allowing me to open ANYTHING. Not a Word file, Internet, application or program. I cannot run a disk either. I decided, because my Toshiba laptop has a number of other problems with slow performance, to backup everything to an external hard drive and erase my hard drive and run the recovery disc.
I ran it in Safe Mode to move all my stuff onto the external hard drive and then inserted the recovery disc. Because of the Securty Central malware, it will not run in normal mode and my laptop says it cannot open the disc in Safe Mode.
All I want to do is erase my hard drive and start over but I cannot seem to do it. I'm not crazy tech-savvy and I know there must be a way to do this but I've tried everything I know how to do. Help??? Thanks!
BTW: my computer is a Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094

Corrected instructions for Recovery and Applications/Drivers Media Document ID: 98082279
CAUTION: The Recovery process reformats the computer's hard disk drive, which completely erases its contents -- including all applications, all documents, and all other data stored on the drive. Be sure to back up your documents and other data before following the instructions below.
Follow these steps to erase the current contents of the hard disk drive and to re-install all of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured:
    1. With the computer on, insert the first Recovery disc into the optical drive.
    2. Shut down the computer (click the Start button, click Shut Down, select Shut Down, click OK).
    3. Press the computer's power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press and hold the F12 key. Release the F12 key when the menu of boot options appears.
    4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the CD/DVD option. Press the Enter key to select it.
The computer will restart, and will boot from the Recovery disc.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the Recovery process.
CAUTION: Once the Recovery process has begun, do not interrupt it.
The computer's hard drive will be formatted, erasing its contents. All of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured will then be re-installed.
    6. Once the Recovery process is complete, remove the Recovery disc, and press any key to restart the computer.

  • Boot from san with local disk

I have some B200M3's with local disk.  I would like to configure them to boot from san.  I've setup a service profile template with a boot policy to boot from CD first and then the SAN.  I have a local disk configuration policy to mirror the local disks.   I've zoned the machines so that it presently only sees one path to the storage because I'm installing windows and I don't want it to see the disks funky because of multiple paths to the same disk.  When I boot the machine it sees the disk.  I boot to the Windows 2012R2 iso and load the drivers for the cisco mlom and then the single lun will appear.  The local disk will also appear.  It can't install Windows 2012R2 on the SAN disk only the local disk.  It sees the local disk as disk 0 and the san disk as disk 3.  I don't know how to get the machine to see the san disk as disk 0.  I have the lun (which resides on an vnx5600) as lun 0.  The boot policy is configured to have the san lun as lun 0.  It even appears while booting the san lun appears as lun 0.  The error I'm getting from the windows installer is:  We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose.  Please check your media drive.  Here's more info about what happened: 0x80300001.  Any suggestions to get this to boot from SAN.

    Hi
during the boot up process, do you see the wwpn of the target showing that the VIC can talk to the storage?
Reboot the server in question, when you see the option to get into bios press F2, ssh to the primary fabrics a run the following commands
    connect adapter (x/x/x). <--- (chassis #/slot #/adapter#)
    connect

  • Unable to verify or repair my external hard drive with disk utility, reason being ...

    Hello there,
I have been facing this problem: After I started getting an error 50 error while trying to view in Quicktime player a movie which I had exported from FCPX today, I found that I was not even able to trash the movie [this was a test movie used for export and I had no need for the same].  A little while later when I opened FCPX, I found this message pop up:
Got a little worried and then tried to verify and repair my hard drives using disk utility, but I could neither verify nor repair the disk.  What should I do now?

    Hello Klaus,
I think I have been able to overcome the problem/s.
I have been using my Seagate 2 TB drive [2 USB] with a FW adapter and was using FW connectivity for the past several months without any problems. About 2 months ago I added a 2 TB Lacie, FW, to my workflow and this EHD was daisychained to the Seagate. Had been facing no problem with this arrangement until today.
Now let me try to tell you what I had done:
I ejected the Seagate drive with the intention of reconnecting it again. But, no, when I tried to reconnect, this message came up:
After several attempts, I did this, connected the Lacie by FW to the FW port on the Mac and connected the Seagate by 2 USB. Was I glad to see my Seagate HD icons shining in all their glory on my desktop! I utilised the services of disk utility and was informed that these prodigal sons were absolutely fine.
I also tried to do this: empty the trash. Was I happy to hear the sound of files being cast out?
Well, well, at least I will be able to get some peaceful sleep now! I have not yet opened FCPX, but I trust it will also be reading the Seagate HD once again.
Good night and thanks for being helpful.

  • Problem partitioning external hard drive with Disk Utility

I'm trying to create a new partition in disk utility in an external hard drive using disk utility and every time I click Apply it says that "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and can't continue. Quit and relaunch Disk Utility". It is a 3TB hard disk and I already created the first partition of 2 TB, and when I click the + symbol to add a 1 TB partition and click Apply is when the error shows up. I have restart the mac, unplugged the hard disk but the error still shows up. Anyone has any idea??? Thanks for your help in advance
    David

I solved this issue. I was able to create the partition with the format MS-DOS and then I erased it to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
Now it is working OK. Hope this help someone

  • Using a FAT32-formatted drive as backup disk with Time Machine

For strange and perverse reasons of my own, I'd like to use a FAT32-formatted external hard drive with Time Machine. Is this possible?

No, Time Machine needs a HFS+ formatted drive for its backup folder:
Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Extended Journaled.
_A solution_ if you still want to use the same drive for TM backup and for some Windows files:
Partition the drive before you start using it.
    1) Format it (using Disk Utility) as Mac OS Extended
    2) Make two partitions.
    3) Now you can format Partition2 as FAT32, so you have then two different volumes with each its own format.

  • WD external Hard Drive comes up with "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."

So here lies the problem, when connecting my WD external HD to my MBP, I get the message The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. and a further three options of initialize, ignore and eject. I have always hit ignore.
When checking my files, the HD is not available in my finder window.
I've gone into Disk Utilities. It is there to be highlighted. And I go to repair the disk, but each time the Repair button is greyed out.
I've tried to use my data recovery software (rescue pro deluxe) but because the drive isn't showing up in that program, it isn't working.
Are there any other options out there to get the files from that HD (I've just gotten back from 2 months of travel with a bunch of photos on that HD - so would like to get them back). Even if that means putting them onto a spare external HD.

Thanks for your quick response. I had a look at your discussion... I tried it on a Windows machine and I thought that was compatible with ExFAT?
Therefore I need to attempt to use my external hard drive with a machine that boasts OS X 10.6.5 or above and then it should work?
    Thanks

  • Will OSX Lion be compatible with hybrid disk drives?

I woud like to know if the new OSX will have support for hybrid disk drives. The drives that have a medium/small SSD disk and a bigger HDD disk. From what i've hear, for now OSX snow leopard is not compatible because it start to give errors of low disk space on the SSD part, since that is the main disk and have small volume.

There is no support for hybrid drives (although, the Momentus XT is the only one I know of).  The OS sees the drive as a standard hard drive.  Many people are using this drive with Snow Leopard without issue.  The operating system cannot see the SSD portion of the drive as such.  The hardware within the drive determines what gets stored on the SSD portion.  I have not heard of any low disk space errors consistent with your comment.

  • I have a hard disk drive with data that i want to back up onto another hard disk drive. I tried just copy and it won't let me paste it in the new drive. I have also tried to drag the files across and they won't go across. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have an external hard disk drive with data that I want to back up onto another extrnal hard disk drive. I have tried to copy and paste but this wont give me a paste option. I have also tried to click and drag but it wont let me either. I have reformatted the external hard drive to accept both mac and pc files and this did not make any difference. Can anyone help me with this?

How did you reformat the drive? If you formatted it as NTFS, your Mac will not be able to write files to it unless you use a small application such as Paragon's.
Please reply as to how you formatted the drive.

  • Macbook Pro with Dual hard drives. Scratch Disk, Memory 64bit, Raid, Set Up Questions.

Hello, this is my first post.
I just upgraded from the original 2006 17" Macbook Pro to a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro 2.53GHZ 4GB Ram (2009 model).
I bought the MCE Tech Optibay and installed it (if you dont know anything about it, ask me, its amazing.) So now I have 2x 500GB 7200RPM Seagate hard drives installed.
I am running Snow Leopard, CS3, Lightroom 1.4.
I have the main hard drive set up with Snow Leopard and all the Applications. I keep all my files on external firewire 800 drives, except files I am currently working on.
The second hard drive is set up as a scratch disk for Photoshop CS3 and that is it.
I am looking to upgrade to CS5 and Lightroom 3 here within this month or so. Or if I get anxious, tomorrow, haha.
I want to know the best setup I can do with my current set up with CS3 and for my future setup with CS5.
    Any info will appreciated.
-Would some kind of raid set up with my internal drives be better? How does raid work with scratch disks?
-If I upgrade to 8GB memory in my macbook pro, would I even see a difference in performance if I didn't have a scratch disk? Since CS5 and Snow Leopard can use more memory in 64bit.
I think thats all I have on my brain right now. I may have more questions, or I can guarantee I will have more later.
    Thanks alot.

First the scratch. Like you said, most everyone has a different take on scratch discs but I'd guess you're wasting one heck of a lot of hard drive space using all 500 GB for Scratch, did I read that right? If I did read it correctly YES, partition it and get some use out of it!!
I've got a unibody MBP 2.93GHz, OS 10.5.8, CS3 & PS 5 (running in 32bit mode), and 8 gigs of ram. I've partitioned the one 300 GB drive so 50GB is scratch, the other partition is for OS, & Apps, and documents (images).
I use LR 2 first than export to PS 5 to finish up. My photos get to be 300MB to 500MB in size and both versions of PS work on this setup just fine. Using PS 5 in 64 bit mode is faster opening files but NON of my plugin's are 64 bit yet, that's why I'm still stuck in 32 bit mode.
Not knowing what size or kind of files you work on makes giving advice a bit tough but try setting the status indicator (don't know the right name for it) in the bottom left corner of any PS open file to "Efficiency" and watch what happens when you process your files. I rarely see mine drop below 90%, I've got the usable RAM in PS Prefs set to it's max suggested, cut way back on History and Cache.
Can't wait for NIK and others to offer their plugin in 64 bit, later this year is what I was told.
There used to be an old "rule of thumb" with old version of PS about Scratch disc size. I don't remember exactly but it may have been 3 to 5 times the size of your biggest file??
    Good luck, Alan

  • DVD drive turned on randomly with no disk

At least I think that is what it was. I had no disk in the drive, and all of a sudden I heard a loud spinning sound which at first I thought wa sa fan going nuts. But then realized it sounded like the DVD drive.
*It stopped after like ten seconds and has not persisted. Anyone have this issue or know if it is a bug of some kind???*
I was using pages just writing a document when it happened.
    Thanks.

michlin, Welcome to the discussion area!
...to upgrade to Tiger I need a DVD Driver.
Not "Driver" but "drive". Apparently the optical drive in your G4 can not read DVDs. To use that Tiger DVD you will need an optical drive with DVD reading capabilities.
OR you can trade in the Tiger DVD for CDs. Go to www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/ and look for the "Media Exchange Program" in the right column.
