SD Problems In Satellite Laptop

I purchased a Satellite Laptop with a built in SD Card Reader.  When I insert a card in the reader it goes through the motions of reconizing it, identifying what size the card is and then pops up with a window that says that the card needs to be formated.  When I tell it to format it after, a few seconds another window pops up that says windows could not format the card.  The card is not locked and I have tried many different cards and get the say action every time.  I have tried copying a file from my hard drive to the "E" drive and again it pops up and says that card must be formatted and won't let me copy or format it.  Any suggestions   It is a Satellite A205-S5879
Thanks

Thanks for your reply........I downloaded and installed the driver you indicated and I get the same message.  When I insert the card I hear the familiar sound that a new device is found, but it does not open up the usual window that ask what I want to do with the file.  When I go to my computer it shows the drive as E and that there is a SD card inserted and when I click on it the message pops up that it needs to be formatted.......when I try to format it begins the process and then another window pops up that says windows was unable to format.  I've tried many differnt cards from 256 up to 2 gig and get the same results.

  • Problems with my laptop starting - Satellite P745, Windows 7

For the past few months I've been having a very strange problem with my laptop. I have a Satellite P745-S4380 with Windows 7. There are times that I can shut it down and turn it on with no problems. However, a majority of the time when I shut my computer down, it will not turn back on. When I push the power button, the following happens:
    the power button lights up
    the fan starts running
I never see the "Toshiba" screen and my computer does not start
The only way I've gotten my computer to turn back on is to either:
    1) unplug my power and let my computer run in this "fan running, power light on" mode until the battery dies - then generally when I plug it back in, it will start right up
    or
    2) wait 5 to 7 days, then it will start right up
I don't use it on a daily (or even weekly) basis because I am on the computer all day at work, but I would have to guess this started around June. I'm trying to determine if this is something like a motherboard failure, or if it's some sort of software/hardware update that is not setting well with my machine. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on things to even try troubleshooting? I think it may be related to an update or setting (maybe because I don't want it to be the motherboard) because even if I go to reboot it at times, it will shut down but will not come up and it will get hung in the same state as I described above. If my motherboard is bad, would it act like this? I'm at a loss with where to even start...
Something else to mention is that if I put it in "hibernate" mode, I haven't seen this issue.

Hi ! There are many discussions about whether you should shut your PC down or just leave it run. I never allow my PC to go into sleep or hibernate mode. I allow my monitor to shut down after 15 minutes of no activity. I turn my wireless mouse off when I'm done with my PC. When I return to my PC, I turn my mouse on and my PC starts up immediately. That is the way I use my lap top. It's a choice for you to make. I have no proof it it is good or bad practice. Of course this would need to be changed if your operating only on battery.

  • ITunes causes DVD drive to fail in Toshiba Satellite laptops

This seemed unlikely to me and I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and/or suggestions.
This morning I discovered that the DVD drive on my Toshiba Satellite laptop wasn't working - Device manager said it Failed to Start (code 10). I called Toshiba and they asked what was the last thing I'd done on the PC. When I said, "Updating iTunes," they said that was the problem, due to an interaction between iTunes and Toshiba Satellite laptops.
Sure enough, uninstalling iTunes fixed the DVD drive.
So now I have to install / uninstall iTunes every time I want to update my iPod

Another thing to check on is a device filter conflict:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
(One of the applications I' seen conflict in this way with iTunes on a Vista system is HP memories Disc Creator Software, which comes bundled with some HP digital cameras.)
... however, if you're still getting no CD/DVD drive with just the iTunes filters in place, you may be one of the unlucky ones who are getting the issue discussed here:
Optical drives not recognized in Windows Vista after installing iTunes 7
Although it wouldn't necessarily be a short-term thing, keep an eye on that document for updated information about the issue.
In the short term, one workaround might be to use a different application to rip the CDs, and then use the "Add to library" function to get the ripped files into your iTunes. (That way you wouldn't have to continually uninstall/install iTunes.) The following document might be of some help with that:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
EDIT: sorry Jason, didn't notice you'd already replied here. Didn't mean to butt in.

  • Various problems with Satellite L505D-S5983

After getting a virus on my laptop I simply decided it would be best to reset the computer to factory settings.
So I pressed restart, then F8, and following that I followed the steps to factory reset my laptop.
Though it took the laptop about 15 hours to restart and reload everything? (I didn't do any kind of recovery, so it's as if I just took it out of the box, it did it's thing where it loaded it for the "first use")
So obviously I had to get some sleep within that 15 hours I had done this reset at night, so I wasn't aware of what it was doing? When I got on it the next morning it had finished the process for the first use. Then something went wrong when I had been on it and it froze so I turned it off. When I turned it back on it kept trying to do the "first use" process again.
Then at some point it stopped. So I was able to connect to the internet and download google chrome and such.
    Then more problems became evident.
The first one being the font is blurry. Now I'm not sure if it's because the screen is rectangular as opposed to monitor I'm currently using which is square.
The next one is a little more aggrivating, whenever I try to log on on its regular mode, I'll click on my account (the admin account, the only account on the laptop.)
When I click on it, it tells me that my accound has been disabled and that I need to contact the system admin - which I thought I was.
So now, after going through my user accounts when I'm on safe mode with networking, I can't find anything to fix that.
So now, apparently I've gone on safe mode too frequently where if I try to open chrome, my blue screen pops up indicating a crash, and it restarts.
So hopefully this is all fixable?
    Thank you for the help.

If it is taking that long to recover and you still have issues I would use your recovery media that you should make if you have not did so already. As Toshiba suggest it is best to make the recovery media when the laptop is new because it can become infected by a virus just like your main operating system.
You should not interrupt the recovery, meaning keep power supply plugged in and don't force a restart. If something happened to interrupt the recovery you can just recover to factory settings again except use the copy you previously made.
If you still have issues you may have other problems.

Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

should i delete the old account and start using the new one
Yes and then you can move your existing profile to the new account.

Be sure you don't delete the old account too soon. You must move the email messages and addresses separately.

That is very good news and goes to show that Toshiba does respond to customer needs even when they don't have to.  This is one reason Toshiba has had consistently good ratings from Consumer Report's user surveys.  Hopefully some of the more rabid posters on this site will see your experience and take heart.  Or at least tone down their heated rhetoric.  Thank you very much for posting your experience.
Nearly every laptop that I have bought for myself and family has been a Toshiba and we have never had issues. The laptop I bought my Uncle had some sort of power failure though. Toshiba fixed it for free and had it back to him in approximately 2 weeks. I am looking forward to my new Satellite. It comes today!

  • Every time I try to download iTunes onto my Vaio laptop it only downloads partially, then claims to be finished. Is this a problem with my laptop or with iTunes?

Every time I try to download iTunes onto my Vaio laptop it only downloads partially, then claims to be finished. Is this a problem with my laptop or with iTunes?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • HDD has failed on my Satellite laptop

Hi there please help! I have a satellite laptop which was purchased in September 2013 with windows 8 OS the hard drive has failed what can I do to fix this?
    Any help is appreciated

    Hi,
My Toshiba was also new - an L5od-b-13p, a gift on Christmas day. Just tried to switch it back on from Hibernation mode and discovered that the power light is on, Capslock and NumberLock on and no screen switching on. It doesn't sound like the HDD is engaging. I can't take the battery out in order to reset it - with only three lights showing it's going to take a very long time to fully discharge the battery.
Can any users offer any help here please?
    thanks

  • Toshiba-Satellite Laptop Model C655-55225 stopped working after 90 days

I purchased a Toshiba - Satellite Laptop on 9/30/2011, it completely stopped working on 1/5/12. The laptop was not even used until 12/25/11, as it was a Christmas present for my husband.  I called Customer Service at Best Buy because Toshiba Customer Service has been of no help, only to be told to call Toshiba.  When I called Toshiba the first time they had us run some diagnostics on the laptop, which did not help at all.  The computer will not even power up.  Please keep in mind this laptop was gently used and well taken care of for the two weeks it was in use.  There were no bumps, drops, virus or spills.   I have spent a small fortune on products at Best Buy this holiday season and this is how they treat their customers?  They offered no suggestions or help at all with a product they sold or offered to intercede with Toshiba.  I can tell you with all certainty I will never buy another Toshiba product nor darken a BestBuy entryway.  The customer service is equally awful with both companies.

Did they give you any other reason why they wouldn't send it out? It is a pretty common procedure to send it out under manufacturers warranty and I am surprised they would shoot you down. Did you talk to geeksquad or just customer service?

  • Sound problems with Satellite A100 (PSAA8)

I am continually having sound problems with the laptop. Whilst I hear the windows start up noise and beeps, I cannot hear any sound from things like CDs, iTunes, Media Player - in fact an error message will always come up. In Media Player the error message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device......." comes up. I have a the standard pre-installed Realtek sound thing on my laptop. I have tried downloading a newer driver from the Toshiba support centre, but I don't know what to do with the zip file. Also in Control Panel, Sounds, everything is greyed-out.
Hope someone can help cos I am going nuts with this :-)
    Thanks

    Hi again
I have downloaded the Realtek sound driver from the Tosh page and unzipped it.
(I have chosen the driver for Vista!!! I suppose you use Vista???)
There is a folder called sound. Access this folder and run Setup.exe
But before you will start this procedure you could access the device manager (control panel -> computer -> device manager) and choose sound, video, and game controller. There you have to mark realtek AC and click on uninstall and reboot the unit.
After this sound driver removing you should start the new driver installation described above. (setup.exe)

  • I had problems with my laptop which have now been fixed but I cant access my itunes account or download itunes

I had problems with my laptop which have now been fixed but I am now unable to download or connect to my Itunes account through any of my devices?

An iTunes account is nothing more than a login and password.
The media is only where the user put it.  Restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the backup of the computer.

  • Actual dimensions for Toshiba - Satellite Laptop A665-S6050?

    Good Morning Everyone,
    I recently purchased the Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 16" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Slate Model: A665-S6050 | SKU: 9988697.
I would like to purchase a sleeve for this laptop, but I can't find the true dimensions online.  I don't have the laptop with me, so I can't just measure it.  The specs I'm finding online list the width as 4.2 inches.  Clearly, this is an error.
If anyone has the actual length, width, and thickness of this laptop, please reply.
    Thanks for the help!
