SD slot no longer works on my Satellite P10-873

Hi there.
Attempted to update the driver for the integrated SD slot in order to read my 2GB card and now it won't even read a 128MB card correctly. The directory structure appears ok but Explorer just hangs with I/O errors.
Have tried uninstalling the SDA controller driver and installing again but not look (although it says it is working correctly).
Tried installing the SD Memory Card driver v2.04 from the download section but under IDE channels, device manager states that it failed to start (code 10) although I don't remember it being installed before anyway. Isn't just the controller driver sufficient?
Hope someone can give me some clues!
TIA

The SD memory controller driver should be installed at first.
After installing the SD-mem controller driver, you can install the SD memory card driver.
In my opinion the error code 10 appears because you have tried to install the memory card driver but the host control driver was not installed!
On the Toshiba page I have found only a SD Host Controller for W2k and not for WinXP.
How did you use the SD card with WinXP before updating the host controller?
Did you format the SD card with another device??
Did you try to format the 128MB card with the SD card format utility??
Check it!
If it does not help you could try to remove the SD card control from the device manager.
Then reboot the unit and try to install the original host control driver again.
Check another notebook drivers for compatible SD host control driver for WinXP

    Hi
Did you check the user manual of the P10 Satellite?
Sometimes the compatible CD/DVD drives can be found in the user manual which should be installed on your notebook.
If you dont have the user manual then you could download it from the Toshiba page.
However, if you will not find the right info in the user manual then I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for details.
Usually you could order a supported drive from these guys.
Its important that you know what drives are compatible due to the different master\slave\c-sel settings.
    Bye and good luck

  • Satellite P10-873 Wireless LAN Connection

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite P10-873 laptop. I've just purchased a Netgear DG834GT wireless modem/router and cannot get fully connected to the internet via Tiscali (ISP).
The problem manifests itself in that I can connect to the router and can even ping various sites on the net. However trying to connect to a site using MSIE I just get "cannot connect" rejection page.
In addition using the CMD prompt, attempting a Telnet session to a web site on port 80 is rejected e.g "www.bt.com 80".
I've set all security to a minimum with no effect.
I have an other notebook which connects and functions perfectly with the Netgear/Ticali setup. I've also identically configured MSIE on both machines without success.
Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this???
    Thanks Mike

I have just set up the same router/modem (yesterday). I had a similar problem until I disabled Norton's Personal Firewall. (Windows Firewall already disabled) It then connected and I set up Nortons again afterwards (despite the manual saying do not use 3rd party firewalls. I also need help with my P10-304. I can't get the Intel 2200BG wireless minicard to work. Any ideas?

  • Satellite P10-873: power supply and CPU overload

I have the P10-873 notebook for 4 months.
The problem is that it turns off when it is connected to AC power.
I can only work using the battery. When the battery goes off I charge it normally (with the notebook turned off) and then I use the notebook only with battery again.
If I connect it to the AC power it turns off after 3 minutes maximum!!!
I have checked the CPU usage while connected to AC and it seems that the CPU is overloaded (from 65-98% - where it shuts down!) without running any applications other that the processes needed for the notebook to operate.
I have sent the notebook to TOSHIBA and they returned it saying that they updated the BIOS.
Unfortunately the problem was not fixed!!!
    Do you have any suggestions?

    Hello
Sorry but I think that there is some problem with notebook power supply electronic. The BIOS update can not solve the problem at all. Please contact your notebook seller or try to contact the Authorized service partner again. They should check the unit again.

Try to clean the laser lens using cotton wool tip and alcohol fluid
In case of dirty lens, this should help to get the disks working again but be very careful while cleaning the lens!

  • Satellite P10-873 randomly freezing

    Hi all,
I've have a P10 and on average a few times a day the machine seems to freeze in Windows XP for 5 - 10 secs. During this time you cannot move the mouse or use the keyboard. Often during this time the fan kicks in to its highest setting, however the strange thing is it doesn't always do it when the fan goes to its highest setting.
The machine has done it from day 1 and have now had it 8 months.
It isnt a spyware or virus problem, i use all the latest drivers and have tried reinstalling the pre-installed software with no success.
Does any one else have this problem or know how to fix it.
I've lost a bit of confidence in Toshibas, my first one was faulty and had to go back and am now beginning to regret not trying to get this fixed at soon as i got the new replacement, at the time didnt really want to go through the whole process of sending another laptop back, so decided to live with it.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
The fact that the fans sometimes kick-in during these temporary freezes would suggest that some intense CPU activity is taking place during this time. The fan activity is almost always related to CPU activity in some way. Do you have any processes or tasks scheduled for routine execution ? I believe that Windows Update will check for updates routinely as will many of the available ad=ware and spyware products. You may also have anti-virus software running which is trying to check the internet for available updates.
You do not say if you laptop is permanently connected to the internet, but it is possible that some process is trying to locate a suitable COM port and is causing the rest of your laptop to hang until it times out.
It may well be a case of trial and error to locate the offending process since there will be many background processes present in XP

  • "Touch" buttons no longer work on Satellite A500-14L

    Hi,
    I am owner of Satellite A500-14L (PSAM3E).
I noticed today that the buttons for switching to ECO mode, or turning keyboard's lights on and off are no longer working, however, witching those settings via Toshiba assist utilities works perfectly.
I did *not* reconfigure the buttons usage. I was wondering if there was an easy way to "restore" their default functionnalities...
    Thanks by advance !!
(Already tried shutdown / restart / delog-relog things)

Unfortunately, reinstalling toshiba VAP did not solve the problem.
    Here's another strange thing:
-I tried to assign different programs to both the eco and the 'lights' buttons with toshiba button setting program
-when I then touch a button, it "reacts", which means it beeps, or even blinks for the "light" button, but nothing happens. I mean really nothing, whichever program or file I assign to the button...
This make me think that the buttons themselves are not faulty, since they beep and blink. What seems to be faulty is the "pipe" that lies behind that step.
Thanks for any other help you may give ! And thanks for your answers that were usefull anyway...

  • Left USB slot just gave me the finger...no longer works

Hey all, fun little problem here I'm trying to fix. My USB slots are not happy with me for whatever reason. Basically, I had moved my computer over to a TV so we could watch movies on a bigger screen. No issues, until I take it back over to my desk and plug it back in.
At first, nothing USB related worked. Everything was fine as far as I knew, nothing had happened that was adverse to the computer's well being. Looking at the Motherboard, the signal lights for the USB slots were both lit up. After several restarts, finally, the left one began working, however, it will not allow me to use my externally powered USB hub. The right USB slot does not work at all.
Any ideas? Suggestions? I only have one PCI slot left, and at times it is used for a WiFi card, so I would like to know if there is a way to fix this without wasting that slot.
Or, is this just indicative of something bigger to come? The system finally showing its age? Should I be expecting more problems? Should I be looking into new computers?

Wait; take out the USB component from the Motherboard or just take out the USB devices and swab it with a q-tip? I assume I should wait for it to dry before shoving anything back in.

  • "Activity window" in Safari no longer works to download YouTube videos. Why not? Workaround?

For years I have used Apple's recommended standard technique whenever I wanted to download a Flash video embedded in a YouTube page to my hard drive:
    - Open a YouTube page and click on the video's "play" button to get it started;
    - Press command-option-A to then open up Safari's "Activity Window" which lists all the components of the page;
    - Find on the list the component for the loading Flash video, which is usually much larger (measured in MB rather than KB) than all the other components, and also is usually still in the process of loading, so it's easy to spot;
    - Double-click the component's name on the list in the Activity Window, and voila, the video downloads to my hard drive.
This "trick" is described everywhere as THE standard way to download YouTube videos (and similar page components); and I have used it successfully for many years.
HOWEVER, sometime very recently (not sure when, exactly -- a few weeks or months ago) YouTube has changed the way its pages are coded, so that this technique no longer works. When I open the Activity Window, instead of seeing one large loading video file that's easily identifiable, I see a whole series of large files, all exactly 1.7mb big (no matter how large the file size of the actual video in question is), and they constantly increase in number -- at first there are two such files, but over the seconds and minutes more and more appear. Furthermore, many files with no named size are constantly loading and then disappearing. And here's the whole point: I've tried double-clicking on ALL of these files, dozens of ways on dozens of YouTube pages, and none of the are the video file I seek and none of them cause the file to  download to my hard drive.
If I click on one the mysterious 1.7mb components, I indeed get a ".flv" downloaded to my hard drive, but it's not actually a Flash video; clicking on its downloaded file icon just brings up a blank box or an error message saying that it's not really a video file at all. I think it's some sort of "decoy" file or something to do with streaming Flash code.
To see what I mean, just go to YouTube, load any random video page, and then open Safari's Activity WIndow and try to download the video that way.
This happens on an iMac running Safari 5.1 on OSX 10.6.8, and also on a MacBook Pro running Safari 5.0.2  on OSX 10.6.5, and on a few other new-ish Macs I tested it out on, but failed to note their version numbers.
I'm presuming that this problem is not specific to my computer, but is caused by the way that YouTube altered the background code for their pages. I don't know if the glitch is an intentional attempt by YouTube to prevent downloads, or if it is an accidental "bug" of the new code. Either way:
How can I fix the problem? Is there some other lesser-known built-in way for Safari/Mac to download the new kind of YouTube videos? Or is there some reliable freeware or shareware or plug-in or extension or whatever for Safari that would enable YouTube downloading?
I tried a freeware program called "Evom" that was highly touted, but it too was thwarted by the new YouTube code and failed to extract any videos from the YouTube page, even though that's what the application was designed to do.
As a side note, I will say that I also have (though rarely use) FireFox for Mac, and the "Unplug" plug-in installed on it, and that ALSO "broke" recently and no longer has the capacity to recognize or download YouTube videos, even though previously it worked fine. This is why I think the issue is not specific to my set-up or computer, but is due to a change in YouTube's underlying code.)
Any help with an explanation, solution or workaround would be much appreciated (by me and by millions of others who I assume are facing the same problem!).

    Carolyn:
I just now did exactly as you recommended. Result? No change.
Even after trashing the files and restarting and everything else, the Activity Window and YouTube behave exactly as they did before.
(I had actually previously tried something very similar to your recommendation, and it didn't have any effect then either.)
In case it's helpful, here's an example of what one of the mystery components that load endlessly in the Activity Window is listed as:

  • Continuous write no longer works after upgrade

    Hello,
After upgrading a computer motherboard, OS (XP to Win7), and NIDAQmx (9.40 to 9.80) simultaneously the Labview 2011 32-bit vi we use to run our lab bus control system no longer works (the two most pertinent vi's are included here).  My next move is to go back to the older NIDAQmx, but this would mean no upgrade possibility to Labview 2013.  The card is rather old (NI DIO-32HS) but is supported according to the documentation in NIDAQmx 9.80 and passes all self-tests.  I have also tested the outputs with a voltmeter and the test panel in NI MAX.
For large amounts of data to write, the DAQmx Start Task vi executes and throws the following error:
Error -200293 occurred at Dequeue and write out elements.vi
    Possible reason(s):
The generation is not yet started, and not enough space is available in the buffer.
Configure a larger buffer, or start the generation before writing more data than will fit in the buffer.
The buffer is not too small.  If I delay the Start Task vi the buffer will fill up more and just crash later.  For small amounts of written data (400000 points or so) there is no problem.  The output executes perfectly.
I realize that this is no longer the recommended clock timing, but:
    1.  When I try to use a pipelined sample clock I get the following error:
Requested value is not a supported value for this property. The property value may be invalid because it conflicts with another property.
    Property: SampTimingType
    Requested Value: Pipelined Sample Clock
You Can Select: On Demand, Sample Clock, Handshake, Burst Handshake, Change Detection
I have tried changing many other properties and looked at the NIDAQmx 9.80 included example for pipelined clock and do not see the problem.
    2.  The normal Sample Clock used to work just fine for generating output while writing to the buffer and I have found an example program on ni.com using this method   https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-12402

    Hi Sam,
Thanks for having a look-see.  I used NIDAQmx 9.4 for all of the tests above.  Since then I went back to our old XP computer which it turned out actually had NIDAQmx 9.6.2 (not 9.40) and Labview 11 SP 1.  The version of the test program is included here.  I modified the channels vi to "one channel for all lines" which doesn't really seem to make a difference.  I have the channel set to dev1/port0_32 with the onboard clock at 1MHz.  It throws the following error:
Error -200621 occurred at Cont Write Dig Port-Ext Clk-Non Regeneration.vi
    Possible reason(s):
Onboard device memory underflow. Because of system and/or bus-bandwidth limitations, the driver could not write data to the device fast enough to keep up with the device output rate.
Reduce your sample rate. If your data transfer method is interrupts, try using DMA or USB Bulk. You can also reduce the number of programs your computer is executing concurrently.
It does not get stable until I reduce the clock speed to 100kHz!  And then even crashes sometimes if I run other programs.  Which is strange because my lab bus program on this old computer uses 1MHz just fine again, with on board or external clock.  The CPU load shoots up with this test VI a lot when you go from 100 to 200kHz.  In general this example VI uses much more CPU than my bus program because it is constantly writing to buffer.  Loading my buffer in the bus program only takes 1sec or so.  I have also changed my bus driver program to use finite instead of continous samples.  The bus program craps out at around 1.1MHz clock.
Speaking with other people at the University (4 different groups), it seems that the speed one gets is dependent on the motherboard and DMA somehow.  Some computers just seem to give faster rates than others.   The overall speed/modernity of the computer and the OS seem to be irrelevant.  The others use traditional NIDAQ drivers and the C++ API, but I have not tried that yet, as it would require a recode.  Some of them run faster than mine, some slower.  We have tried disabling other PCI bus devices and changing the slots.  We have also tried various bios versions.
Another thing I noticed, is that the card ALWAYS regenerates, regardless of how the mode is set.
    Have a nice evening.

  • Flashcards for screen brightness no longer work after BIOS upgrade

I have a Toshiba Satellite T135D/1320S laptop, and last night I upgraded the BIOS to v1.90 under the recently released recall notice.  AFter installing the BIOS, however, the Flashcard brightness controls no longer work. Whenever I press FN-6 or FN-7, the screen brightness Flashcard pops up and the toggle on the slider bar moves back and forth, but the brightness of the screen does not change.
I have disabled and re-enabled the Flashcards as suggested in a separate forum, and I've also downloaded the most recent display driver (AMD display driver v8.615).  Neither effort corrected the problem.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

Sometimes it helps to reset the machine. With the battery and AC adapter removed, close the Power switch for half-a-minute. Re-attach those, press the Power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press the F2 key while the Toshiba logo is displayed. Press F9 to restore the BIOS default settings, press F10, and then select Yes (Exit Saving Changes). The computer will restart.
Another things to try is reinstalling the TVAP.

  • Power button no longer works??

I have a macbook pro retina dis late 2013, when i first got the laptop the power button worked great, press it and it would give me the option to, restart/sleep/shutdown. Now since my 1yo boy started pressing buttons and caught me off guard it no longer works if you tap power button like before.
it does however still go to sleep if its depressed for longer period, but now to shut down my laptop i now have to press ctrl Power to shutdown?
I know its only one extra button to press but it was far convenient just quickly pressing the power button once and hitting return when it automatically highlights shutdown first.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been into two Apple stores and both say I need to book an appointment online. thanks, but I really don't think its the logic board since I can still plug in head phones and i can hear movies, etc.
also when i don't have my magicJack plugged in to make calls they now give you a magictalk dial pad to make calls and when i plug in the headphones again i can talk through the speakers and be heard and I can hear them too.
