SD to HD with pillarboxes--keep getting scan lines

Hello,
I am attempting to upconvert SD footage to HD, keeping a 4:3 aspect ration to use in a 16:9 timeline. I am attempting to convert it with Compressor, and I successfully get pillarboxes, but I keep getting footage that looks like it has scan lines. I have tried both interlaced and de-interlaced conversions and both come out the same.
My question is, does anyone know the proper settings for converting SD footage to 1920x1080 HD with pillarboxes?
OR
If I just drop the SD footage into the HD timeline and render it, will I have problems during my export?
What do you do in this scenario?

Thanks! That was my next step. This project is a mess. The editor was editing an HD film in a 4:3 sequence. After conforming things, some of the elements become pixelated, but I imagine that might have to do with the source footage, no?

honestly on a Windows I do not know how, there are programs that you can download that will tell you, and there are unix scripts that can tell you. to find out how, you might want to talk to somebody who owns a windows and is proficient in using it.

Windows Installation impossible with BOOTCAMP - keep getting BSOD

I am facing a huge problem. Countless times I have been trying to install Windows 7 64 Bit on my Macbook Pro via Bootcamp now.
I had it working a few months ago, then the Windows installation kept getting blue screens so I decided to remove it and reinstall. But I can't.
The problem is that I keep getting a Bluescreen right after the installation is at the point where there is only a black screen and a grey loading bar, above written: "Windows is loading files."
Right after I get the Bluescreen. I dont even get to see the menue in which i would have to select a hard drive etc.
The Bluescreen says: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA and Error Code: STOP: 0x00000050 or sometimes STOP: 0x0000007E
I browsed the web but couldn't find a similar problem yet.
Solutions including windows repair etc can not work for me as I am not even in the installation menu when this happens.
Can someone help please?

No, when I built in the new HDD and took out the cd drive for the apple HDD I used it to format everything and freshly install Mavericks. Right after I did it I installed Win7 without any problems. This was in January, the Bluescreens started in March..

In Elements 13, how do I type a word on a photo when all I can do with "T" is get a line, e.g., ________?

I had been able to type text on a photo, but suddenly I am only able to get a line instead of a text.

Try resetting the tool. To do that, look for a box with lines in it on the tool's option bar, on the right.
Click on that to reset.

Sharing with SMB - Keep getting "Incorrect Password" Error

When I try to enable SMB file sharing by clicking the check box next to my account name in the Sharing Preferences, I get a dialog box asking for my password, and when I type it in, I get "incorrect password". I am trying to share files on my MacBook Pro with a Windows 7 computer.

Dan-o, yes I have had this issue since I upgraded to lion 10.7 from snow leopard 10.6.8.
No cure yet.
Notes of curiosity:
• only seem to affect one admin user on osx. Was original user on snow leopard. Password is always rejected as incorrect when attempting to set smb access in sharing system press
• does not affect any subsequent admin users that are added. These can set DMV sharing password. Password is accepted
• same for any standard (non-admin) users. Their passwords are accepted when sharing for smb
• setting up a "root" user (active dir tool) and having this alter smb sharing does not help
• a fresh install (clean initialise) file system with lion DOES NOT EXHIBIT THIS ISSUE
• removing /library/preferences/com.apple.smb.sharing.plist also does not help
• there are no error logs for failed password when attempting the above
• Use of chmod, chown to reset permissions and acl's makes no difference
I'm still looking

Can't chat with PC, keep getting "did not respond"

I have a 17" MacBook Pro running OS 10.4 and I am tring to iChat with my brother in law. He has a PC with XP service pak 2 and the latest Triton Beta for AIM. If either of us invites we get the message that the other did not respond. We have DSL without firewalls. He's at 256K and I'm at 1024K. Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks.

Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
iChat 3.1 and above has an option to allow Multiple logins.
This has to selected if you wnat to log on from two computers (or two apps) with the same screen name.
This setting is found in iChat > Preferences > Accounts and selecting the AIm/@mac account in question and then the Account Information tab.
You can only change the setting when iChat is logged out of AIM.
It is also important with iChat 3 that the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab > Streaming speed drop down is set to match your download or to a max of 1.5meg if your connection speed is faster.
iChat should be restarted after this change.

Using WiFi with C3 - keep getting 'subscribe to pa...

Hey, i've got a Nokia C3-00 (and very lovely it is too) but when I try to use WiFi, it tells me to subscribe to packet data. Also, currently the packet data is set at pp.vodafone.co.uk, but I don't want to get charged for using WiFi by Vodafone because I need to use their packet servers. How can I get onto the net with WiFi?

Some people (especially those with operator branded phone) seems to be having some strange problems with C3-00 WiFi, there has been lengthy discussion here. Hope it helps.

FaceTime will not connect, keep getting Call Failed

Since middle of last week have not been able to make calls with FaceTime keep getting message saying connecting, then get "Call Failed'

I had the same issue. FT worked fine on my iPhone, iPad, and one of our iMacs, but not our newest iMac.
After searching all over, I stumbled on the solution.
Here is the snip that worked for me...
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go.
In the Finder window, locate the file named "NetworkInterfaces.plist" and drag this file to the Trash.
Restart your computer.

Getting rid of scan lines when exporting

I've noticed that no matter what method I use to export, I get scan lines within my video. Do I have to change a setting? I get them even if I export in full quality.

Hello everyone.
I have asked this before here and was helped out very well. I have followed the same steps I was told before which worked before but for some reason is not working now. Here is a clip of a Demo I made for a client but I keep getting these lines when someone moves. http://www.simplycaptivating.com/hddemo2.mov
Now someone on this forum had previously helped me with this problem on a diffrent clip, and it worked great. But now when I follow those same steps with this clip I still get the lines. Does anyone have a clue as to why?

What you say sounds like an interlacing problem - interlacing shows up on computer monitors as it is designed for TV. Interlacing is usually much more noticeable during high movement.
However: I usually see interlacing on my monitor, and I don't see it in your file. The only lines I see are vertical ones in the chandelier shot, but I think they are light ray artefacts (and they look fine, a bit like rain if anything).
If it is the interlacing, then you need to apply a deinterlace filter. However if your friends plan to watch it on DVD on a TV, it may not need it. Have you tried burning it as a DVD and watching it on a regular screen?

Why am I getting vertical lines below each letter I type?

I keep getting vertical lines below each letter that I type when filling in things with Firefox 4. There is one line created for each letter.

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:

ESET NOD 32 cannot scan past this point. I keep getting stuck at 56% at the following; C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\ Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\Pending. Is this a problem with NOD32 or with Firefox? Thank you.

I ran into a glitch on my system that I tried to fix myself. My NOD32 was always showing the yellow warning circle as my protection status when I started my computer. I tried to fix this every way I new how.
Then I started to get pop ups asking me to fix and then send system error reports to Windows. Some stating they were '''''critical.''''' So I sent NOD32 the e-mail below.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

Yes, I had found a similar solution also. I'm running XP Pro, SP3. I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair. Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess. Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes. Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing. I haven't begun to work on that.

f I get access to the original folders within the library by right-clicking any photo and then being able to browse inside the library, am I going to have any problems if I copy or move those original pictures directly to a folder outside of the iPhoto Library?
Copying photos out will not be a problem if you make no errors - for me that is not a good bet - it is best to stay out of yoru iPhoto library

No - it gives you the current version which may be the original if no changes have been made or will be the current edited version if edits ahve been made
Also, any suggestions on how to best have photos OUTSIDE of an iPhoto library organized so that iPhoto can reference them, but your backup is also organized?
In the iPhoto preferences un check the advanced preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library"
HOWEVER - this is not recommended - it makes importing more complicated, deleting more complicated and makes replacing a hard drive or going to a new computer much more difficult - and it puts you totally in charge of your original photos - being sure that they are there and do not get moved
I'd like to have my photos organized by date in the backup as well, so that I don't have to backup all my pictures every time I add new ones, just add the latest to the backup drive.
Finally, any suggestions on what to do with pictures that you scan so that they appear by the date they were taken as opposed to the date they were scanned? Is there a way to modify the date of the photo info?
Select the photos in iPhoto and use the batch change command under the photos menu - the tiem and date option
