Sdk environment variables

I am trying to set the environment path in windows xp, but it does not seem to "take".
I took all the standard default settings during install. I have the Path set as:
C:\Sun\AppServer\bin; C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin; C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\bin
Java_Home is set to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\
However, when I try to compile the simple HellowWorldApp.java
by C:\Java >javac HellowWorldApp.java
I get
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
What am I missing?
Thanks... Larry

If you set the environment, the changes do not apply to command prompts already opened. Open new ones. You can check the PATH setting with the command PATH.

  • Build error on using  environment variable for  CS5 on Mac

I have created a sample project using dollyx on Mac for CS5 . I have used an environment variable and defined it in Source tree of XCode preferences.
I am using snow leapard  and my XCode version is 3.2.2 .
I have defined variable as IDSDK7  for /idsdk7 (which is my SDK directory). I am creating project outside SDK . While creating project with DollyX  , I am giving  SDK's path as $(IDSDK7) which is absolute path and not relative with respect to the project .
I am getting many build errors  -----

  • What environment variable & DLL should be registed to publish application.

One of my friend supply me one software named "Oracle Database Lite Embedded SDK" instead of Branch Office exported from Oracle Lite, with the help of this and JVM ,i can access *.odb file directly, but i cant ' call Java trigger from my program, there will be one exception, though it's ok when i use the msql.exe tools. can anybody give some information about the register environment variable and DLL including the JVM Enviroment variable and Oracle Lite DLL, then i can register this information myself without installing Oracle Lite or Branch Office.

Actually I never tried to create an image for a different platform.
I always assumed it was possible.
The image creator for Windows is called Windows_ImageCreator.exe.
If it's not already there, you can try to locate the Windows download for your version and download the first part.
Usually it should be quite small, as it only contains the manifest of the ZIP files.
In that manifest try to locate Windows_ImageCreator.exe and download the ZIP file that contains it.
Copy the Windows_ImageCreator.exe to the directory where you have extracted the Linux Jar files and try to execute it on a Windows machine.
I did a small test and along the way you do get an option to create for Linux (and other platforms).
As I haven't downloaded the Linux Jar files, it asked me the location of those files.

  • Setting the environment variable

I just installed the rpm for the 1.4 SDK on my RedHat 7.1 box. Does anyone know how I can set the environment variable so it will recognize Java from the command line? Thanks in advance.

You need to set a couple of environment variables in your "profile" script. Which one, exactly, depends on the shell you use. It's probably .profile on your home directory.
    Try
JAVA_HOME=/usr/java1.4 (or wherever it really is)
    PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
    export JAVA_HOME,PATH

  • J2EE Installation: Environment variables SETUP?

    HI there
Can anyone help me please. I just installed J2EE and was looking for the sdk folder to set the environment variables. But instead i found a jdk folder which i am not sure about.
Does anyone know what environment variables do i set for J2EE.
Through some websites; it says set <J2EE_Home>\bin and also <JAVA_HOME>\bin where JAVA_HOME points to sdk1.4.2_03 (something like that).
Am i missing anything in downloading? I mean do i have to download J2SE separately.
I followed the following website for downloading
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download-dr.html
&then "Download the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition 1.4 SDK Developer Release."
    Please HELP
    Thanx

    Hi
    thanx for replying
actually the jdk folder created in my directory just says jdk.
The README filefrom jdk folder says the following as the header " Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.4.2"
Also if i go through start--> programms--> sun microsystems. It shows me J2EE1.4SDK. So after Microsystems -->its J2EE1.4 SDk ---> About J2EE1.4SDK and other options like Admin ocnsole, Deploy tool etc.

  • Environment variables for j2ee1.4sdk on windows xp home

    Hello,
I have just installed J2EE 1.4 SDK on Microsoft Windows XP Home, and everything went fine. I can start the Apache Server and run the demos. But I installed it to be able to compile own code!
So now abaout my problem: The installation guide says I should set some environment variables. But I dont know what paths to set the variables to!
The installation program has created a directory "C:\Sun". That directory contains only one subdirectory: "C:\Sund\AppServer". In that directory are, among others, a subdirectoy "bin" which includes some ".bat" files like "asant.bat", and a subdirectory "jdk", which also includes an own subdirectory "bin" with the well-known executables "java.exe", "javac.exe" and some more executables.
What environment variables do I have to set, and to which values??? "http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/index.html" says:
In order to run the asant scripts, you must configure your environment and properties files as follows:
    * Add <JAVA_HOME>/bin to the front of your path.
    * Add <J2EE_HOME>/bin and <J2EE_HOME>/share/bin to the front of your path so that J2EE 1.4 Application Server scripts (asadmin, asant, deploytool, and wscompile) override other installations.
    * Set the j2ee.home property in the file <INSTALL>/j2eetutorial14/examples/common/build.properties to the location of your J2EE Application Server installation. The build process uses the j2ee.home property to include the J2EE library archive, <J2EE_HOME>/lib/j2ee.jar, in the classpath. If you wish to use an IDE or the javac compiler to build J2EE applications, you must add this JAR to your classpath.
    - so do I only have to set the %PATH% variable or also %CLASSPATH% manually?
    - what directories do I have to set the variables to according to my directory structure as described above?
    Thanks in advance! :)
    yours sincerely,
    Stefan

Instructions you are reading are relevant for J2EE 1.4 tutorial samples - if you want to compile and deploy your own code you don't have to go through all the steps described in tutorial documentation.
Based on the information you provided about your installation you should do the following in order to compile your own code:
    * add C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin;C:\Sun\AppServer\bin; at the beginning of your existing PATH
(you don't have to add C:\Sun\AppServer\share\bin for the simple reason that it does not exist anymore in this release and its content got moved into C:\Sun\AppServer\bin)
    * in order to compile your code, you must make sure that C:\Sun\AppServer\lib\j2ee.jar is in your classpath - how are you going to achieve that depends on the development environment you are using
    Hope this helps...

  • Linux Environment Variables

I have tried several times to set the environment variables. I have tried pointing to /usr/local/java/j2sdk1.4.0/bin and this does not work. This is where the sdk is located, so why would this not work. All the documentation says to point there. Any help is appreciated on how to get this working.

I assume you are using bash. Did you try to say:
    PATH=/usr/local/java/j2sdk1.4.0/bin:PATH
and then invoke your javac or java?
Having "said" that, the setting will however apply to that command shell and will not affect the other ones.
To set this permanently, you might consider including this line into your .profile file.
I use a more flexible solution, as I have several jdk's installed and I want to switch among them from time to time.

    - I have installed the RPM "IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-11.0.x86_64.rpm"
    - I have set the Environment Variable in .bash_profile file as below:
    export JAVA_HOME=/opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142
    expot PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
Logged out of root and logged in, but I am not able to see the correct JAVA -Version
Its still showing the GNU version.
Can you please let me know that was correct ?
    Thanks
    Sri

You can simply use those commands in the shell that is open and in which you want to start the installation. There's no need to make this permanent for user "root".
Sapinst will configure the new users correctly with the correct PATH.

  • X11 environment variables on MacBook Pro

    Hi
I have just got my new MacBook Pro and have installed Gimp to run using x11 that came on the apple installation disks however I can't seem to get the xterm to configure correctly.
GIMP is installed under /sw/bin but the default PATH for x11 does not include this location so I added PATH=$PATH:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin to a newly created .bash_profile. But x11 did not seem to use this file although terminal worked OK.
After doing a bit of research, I then created a .bashrc file with the PATH defined and changed the .bash_profile to source .bashrc with no other entries.
Again this worked OK for Terminal but now when I type 'echo $Path' in an x11 xterm the PATH displays two entries for /sw/bin & /sw/sbin. i.e.
    $ echo $PATH
    /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin
Any ideas why? and how can I correct it?
    Macbook Pro 17   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sorry this was a bit brief; I think I was still asleep when I typed it.
    The reasons are these:
    1. Many fink programs require environment variables and other settings. When you source that init.sh file, it ensures everything is set up to work out of the box. (Among the things it does is to in turn source every relevant file in /sw/etc/profile.d -- take a look in it to see what, if anything, is in there). There is also some code to keep your path trimmed properly, so you don't get repeats pasted on.
    2. Bash is unique in that either .bashrc or .bash_profile, but not both, get sourced. In a rooted X11 environment, everything works properly, but on OS X, where X11 is "rootless," it leads to unexpected behavior like what you saw. As long as you put everything into one file and then tell the other one to source its contents, you should be ok.
You can also run X11 stuff from Apple's terminal, provided you somewhere in a startup file have something to set the DISPLAY variable, usually to .0.
I've put more discussion of these things here

Also, is there any specification about the user permissions and about how the backup should be run?

  • How do I use Embed with an environment variable in an Actionscript AIR project Flash Builder 4.7

I am using Flash Builder 4.7 to build an Actionscript AIR project.  The project embeds a number of png files from my local directory and I have been using absolute paths which all works fine.
I have a laptop with which I want to start developing the same project - I set up a git repository that both the laptop and main pc can pull from and so I can get the source where I need it and push it back to the central repository.
My problem is that the absolute paths for the embed commands don't work on the laptop as it has a different filesystem setup (Windows 8 with one drive as opposed to Windows 7 with a SSD and a data drive).  I thought the solution would be as easy as using an environment variable to specify the path which could then point to a different physical directory on both machines, i.e:
    [Embed(source = "DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]
I did a bit of research and there was quite a lot mentioned about setting up resource directories using path variables which I worked through but I just can't get it to compile.  The Actionscript compiler just won't find the png files however I specify the path.  I tried something with a FLEX project and the compiler didn't complain but I think this is because the compiler for FLEX uses a different convention.
[Embed(source ="/Project Name/DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]  works with FLEX but not Actionscript.
So does anyone have a recipe for using the Embed command referencing assets using an environment variable that works across multiple machines with different file structures?

I managed to find a solution on Windows which was to use symlinks and absolute paths.  You an basically point one directory to another so I did something like:
    mklink c:\developer_resources c:/the/local/path/to/my/resources
and then reference all resources as c:\developer_resources\...
Now as long as a developer machine has the right link (from c:\developer_resources to the place where the resources are kept) then it seems to work.
This doesn't however work for Mac and certainly isn't a solution for passing files between Mac and windows

  • Open module for managing property file and environment variables

Looking for an open module for managing property files and environment variables (like CLASSPATH) set in a shell script. For handeling properties (preserving comments, supporting includes, appending new entries, and more) I have looked at SuperProperties from openadaptor but find certain functionality lacking. As for interfacing with common shell scripts/files containing setting for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, other system/application variables another type of object editor is needed. Maybe JFIG?
    Any ideas are greatly welcomed.

You seem wright, you hit a brick wall here with Air to find the location
of the command console on windows...
So in fact I never build an exe tool, but this little problem was a nice
case to test it and I tried it.:
    I downloaded monodevelop
    -GTK# for .NET 2.12.10*
    -MonoDevelop 2.4.2*
       from http://monodevelop.com/Download
created a console project and had an exe in 5 minutes !
You can download the findconsole tool and the projectfiles here:
       http://greencollective.nl/temp/dump/findconsole_monoproject.zip
findconsole.exe will reveal the path/location of cmd.exe on a windows system.
    Cheers,
    Latcho
