SDM & JSPM

Hi Experts
please explain me about  SDM & JSPM,
what is diffrence between SDM & JSPM and why we use both tools.
please provide me any documents or any links about SDM & JSPM.

BANDLA

Hi,
JSPM is used to apply support packages on deployed software components whereas SDM is a tool with which you can manage and deploy software packages (Software Deployment Archives and Software Component Archives) that you receive from SAP.
Click the link for SDM
[http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/22/a7663bb3808c1fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm]and
for JSPM
[http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/25/c45b4211aac353e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm]
JSPM is just an interface for SDM all the processing will done from SDM only.using SDM you can deploy JAVA support as well as Business Packages.Till Netweaver 7.0 version JSPM can't be used to apply BP but from release 7.1 all the stuff has to be done from JSPM.

    Dear Kondalu,
SDM & JSPM are used to manage support packs in Java stack, As of SPAM in Abap stack.
SDM was used in versions 3.0
    Find the link

JSPM is used from 7.0 and above.
Java Support Package Manager is a software deployment tool that can be used for installing business packages, software components, and SAP kernel binaries.
Java Support Package Manager can be used for the following:
u2022 Installing support package stacks for existing software components
u2022 Installing support packages for existing software components
u2022 Installing or upgrading business packages
u2022 Updating SAP kernel binaries, Software Delivery Manager (SDM), and Internet Graphics Service (IGS)
u2022 Self-updating Java Support Package Manager so that the latest version is used
u2022 Deploying new SAP and non-SAP software components
u2022 Installing additional usage types such as Enterprise Portal (EP) or Process Integration (PI)

  • What's the difference among SDM, JSPM and DeployTool?

    Hi!
I do not understand why we cannot just have a single tool  to do the java deployment exclusively?
    Please advise. Thanks!

    Hello Jennifer,
Here is the detailed information about each of these :
    JSPM
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/25/c45b4211aac353e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    SDM
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/22/a7663bb3808c1fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm
    Deploy Tool
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/22/a7663bb3808c1fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm
In short, If you want to update the SP level of j2ee engine, you would use JSPM. JSPM uses SDM for the deployment however, it takes care of the sequence of the SCAs and lot more checks.
If you want to deploy a single SCA/SDA/EAR, you would use SDM.
Deploytool was used in 6.20 extensively for the EAR deployment. You don't use Deploytool directly anymore in later releases.
    Hope this helps.

  • JSPM,SDM,configtool installation in Dialog instance or seperated server

    Hi experts
We set up NetWeaver2004s MSCS configration(having two nodes,
first node has CI locally, and second has DI locally.
Generally CI has some special tools such as System Land Directory,SDM
    JSPM,configtool and Visual Administrator...
In the case that CI is unavailable, How can we use these tools on Dialog
instance after CI crush without CI restore??
So far Ive found the installation note for Visual Administrator in another node.
But i coundnt find the installation guide for SDM,JSPM,configtool and Visual Administrator.
    Any information would be help.

    Hi Thomas
    Thank you for your reply.
I would appricite it , if you could answer more questions bellow.
    your proposing
SDM:You can start sdm also if the j2ee server not is coming up... startserver.bat.
JSPM:You can use SDM instead JSPM.
ConfigTool:Only the database must be available. No J2EE server must running.
Basically your answers are assumed that primery server is available in OS level
    with CI crash or something.
I would like to know solution against crtical situation like in the case of Hardware crush, example OS login is unavailable
SDM,JSPM,configtool is installed in CI(primery server) only, so we'd like to use
    these tools in seconderly node.
If you know SAP's standard solution about how to mange sepecific tools
of CI  for MSCS against CI failer, I would like to know it.

  • Need to install web diagtool in my system

    Dear Expert ,
please help me on below issue once if you know
i need to install web diagtool in my ep system
but i dont know the process to deploy this on version 700
    i checked in note 1045019
but in that note it is not clear to tel how to deploy using sdm
so please reply how can i deploy with sdm and which package type can i need to select in jspm screen
    Regards

iam looking for which package type needs to select in jspm screen after executing sdm
JSPM and SDM are two different tool. Once you deploy the SCa file on EPS\in directory, you can call SDM and from that screen you can select the file which you moved into EPS\in and you can deploy that.

  • SUM find uninstalled Java stack

    Dear community,
two weeks ago we have splitted our BI/BW system into two stacks for an upgrade. Everything worked smoothly.
Now I start SUM to upgrade the ABAP-stack and it finds a dual-stack. In the logs I  find the error message:
Not Supported AS Java Release. None of the Version Command, SDM, JSPM tools have been found!
Why does it still expect a Java-stack?
In the DEFAULT.PFL the parameter system/type was removed properly by the tool. In the instance-profile it hadn't been removed but I removed it manually. But even after restart of the SAP-system SUM still expects a java-stack.
    Can anybody help me?
    Best regards, Henning

    Dear Ashutosh,
thank you very much for the fast responses.
I have marked any line containing "j2ee" with a hash "#" and even restarted the complete AIX-server. I removed the SUM directory and extracted it again. The problem still remains.

  • NW04S SP04- SP07 upgrade, 300 seconds between each DC deployed

    Hi,
I am currently running an SP upgrade on NW04S from SP04 to SP07 on an EP system running on HP-UX IA64.
However, there is a problem with SDM/JSPM (JSPM been updated to SP07 without problems) which is apparant by the fact that there is a five minute wait (300 s) between each development component which is deployed. So far the deployment has taken two hours, but it will take days to complete with the current tempo.
The SDM logs indicate the problem fairly clear:

). I tried to search some configuration files, but nothing yet.
Note 942411 is the closest I have found from SAP regarding this problem, but I can find nothing in the dev_jcontrol logs.
Is there any way to resolve this issue, or reduce the wait time to something significantly less than 300 s?

    Hi Vyara,
Actually, I had no problems login in with visual admin and accessing SAP EP while the update was running.
(haven't checked the logs or jcmon though)
I realized I forgot to set the systemcomponentstate of SDM to mode=activate:
         StopServer.sh
         sdm.sh jstartup mode=standalone
         sdm.sh systemcomponentstate mode=activate
         sdm.sh jstartup mode=integrated
         StartServer.sh
And after doing that and restart the system, things look better.
    Thanks for your help

  • ESS with out  EP

    Dear Experts,
We are working on ECC 6.0. My client is asking us to implement ESS with out EP. Is it possible ???   they are asking us to use some general portals like (Internet explorer, netscape navigator, etc).
Kindly let me know on this. Points will be rewarded to the answer..
    Regards
    Kumar

First of all, try to deploy the ESS/MSS Business packages using sdm/JSPM.
Without the Business package, you will not be able to avail the ESS/MSS services.
And said by Andy, it is hard to develop custom application by your own......
So its better to start with the deployment of Business package, start configuring the things and customize the ESS/MSS application as per your customer environment and landscape.
    >> Could any one guide me, how should i start?? whom i have to intaract in my team regarding this???
It is better if you have a functional consultant (HCM/HR) and a Technical consultant - Portal. A good combination of these two would be definetely results in successfull Implementations.
Much of information is available in sap online help website.
For more info on Configurations, check [this|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/f6/263359f8c14ef98384ae7a2becd156/frameset.htm]
Always, it is a good pratise to read each and every node in spro
    before implementing it.

  • We need smarter written install programs!!!

In this age of small SSD boot drives, we need much smarter install programs, One of my pet peeves is the manufactures that send out to the public unpartitioned drives. There should always be a "C" (system) and a "D" (data) partition. At any rate the install program should only install the programs system requirements on the "C" drive and give you an option of which drive to place the rest of the installed files. It does not take more than 10 minutes to add the option to the install program. (I've done it). Come on installer writers, don't be so lazy.
    Paul

    Hi Wolfgang,
As per my understanding you should be able to deploy your non-SAP application on the PI 7.0 without any issues. Please try to use SDM / JSPM to deploy your application. Also, the NW database itself would be used in turn.
Regarding license, a temporary license is active right after installation. In case a permanent license is required, please http://service.sap.com/licensekeys

  • SAP troubleshooting logs

    Hi ,
I would be more grateful to all of you if you could let me know whatever logs we can check to find out/trace SAP system problems on the following
    Installation logs (ABAP+JAVA)
DB logs - Oracle & SQL
    J2EE,SDM & JSPM logs
    I appreciate all your help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hai,
For JAVA logs check the below link...
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/e3b0f5f76a2e99e10000000a155369/frameset.htm
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e4/540c404a435509e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
For Oracle logs check the user trace and Background trace under /oracle/<SID>/saptrace
For BR tools logs you can check DB12 this is for Backup, Redo logs etc.,
For DB calendar DB13, For memory related settings check ST04.
DB16,DB17 also can be used to check the DB logs.
BRBACKUP writes the following file system logs:
    <SAPDATA_HOME>/sapbackup/b<encoded timestamp>.<ext>
Every detail log contains information about the status of the ORACLE database at the time of the corresponding backup and about the actions that were performed during the course of that backup.
    <SAPDATA_HOME>/sapbackup/back<DBSID>.log
This summary log contains a brief entry for each backup.  Among other things, this log shows the return code of every backup.
BRBACKUP also records its actions in the database tables SDBAH and SDBAD.
    Check the below link.....

  • SDM vs JSPM

    Dear experts,
I am about to do a major business package upgrade this weekend on our ms clustered java portal (NW 701). Last couple of times i applied business packages i used SDM, but now i talked to a SAP guy and he told me to use JSPM instead, but couldnt give me a reason to why its better.
Last upgrade i did i applied Portal SP6 with JSPM, but business packages with SDM. Is that somehow wrong? Only thing i can think of is that JSPM has a more "intelligent" interface which is a bit more fail proof than SDM. This is only a thought tho.
Another question - on my MS cluster, the SAP guy told me JSPM is controlling the cluster during the business package upgrade so that I dont have to close cluster ressources while doing the upgrade, like I used to. I Used to shut down the cluster so it couldnt switch over during upgrade, but if JSPM can control that it seems fine.
So - whats the big plus using JSPM instead of SDM for business packages?
Is JSPM able to control ms cluster while patching?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind Regards,
    Soren

    Hi Manoj,
Thank you for your reply. I have heard the opposite, that JSPM is securing consistency but SDM doesnt. Not saying thet the source i have it from was right, I am still tad confused what to use. Maybe it would be wise to specialize in 1 application ex JSPM and deploy everything with the same tool, if JSPM manages cluster and consistency. I would love to be able to do a poll, to see how many % uses SDM and how many uses JSPM
If anyone has something to add please do so!
    Thanks!
    Kind Regards,
    Soren

  • JSPM cannot connect to SDM

    Hi SDNers,
During the upgrade of my BI Java system (Stand-alone system, Win2K3, Oracle) I am running JSPM and attempting to take it from SPS13 to SPS17. When I enter the 'Deploy Queue' phase, it indicates the proper start and finish version (kernel 7.00.114 to 7.00.175; all other package from 7.00.13 to 7.00.17)
When it attempts to deploy, the system starts to deploy, and in the JSPM_MAIN log I see it issue the command to stop the system and the system does stop (quite quickly actually) and then I see the message in the log:
Cannot stop service for instance DJ5_1. See STOP_SERVICE_01null_01 for details.
There is, however, no log by that name in any of the JSPM log file directories.
Watching the Windows Services for this system, they do not stop, but it makes no difference if I stop them manually anyway, I still get the same message.
I've looked through JSPM logs, SDM logs, the instance work directory, and the Server Default Trace files, and the only indications I see are a normal shutdown:
    DEV_JCONTROL
    [Thr 11480] Mon Mar 30 16:18:52 2009

[Thr 11480] JControlIProcessSoftKill: soft kill of process SDM (pid:10276)
and in the work directory I find that JCMON can't attach to shared memory, which makes sense if the system is down.
However, the JSPM does then attempt to access the SDM process, after the system is down as well, and cannot:
    JSPM_MAIN:
Cannot refresh Deployed Components view. Could not detect deployed components. Could not detect deployed components. Could not access the SDM repository. com.sap.sdm.apiimpl.remote.client.APIRemoteExceptionImpl: Server canabid did not accept login request as admin on port 50118. Details: ERROR: Could not establish connection to server canabid at port 50118: Connection refused: connect
and the final message I get is this:
The J2EE Engine is not running. Start it and then Resume. If the J2EE Engine can not be started you can continue with the deployment. The J2EE engine is in NORMAL mode.
So, it looks to me like the JSPM process actually stops the SAP system, and THEN throws an error when it can no longer connect to the SDM process.
I have already upgraded JSPM to SPS17 version, and also executed this on my sandbox system already without encountering any error.
    Any advice/questions/suggestion are welcome!
    Thanks in advance!
    Troy
