SDM Server in Monolithic mode

Hi All,
While updating the java SP-stacks, I am not able to login into JSPM and when checked at SDM Tool server, server is in monolithic mode.
Please provide me your inputs how to change monolithic mode to standlone mode.
SAP PI 7.0 -- On Suse Linux 10

Starting SDM Server in integrated mode

Hi,
I am trying to start the SDM Server after upgrading to SP17 but the server doesnot start in the 'integrated' mode. The reply I get is the following "SDM server not up after 55 seconds. Waiting for another 5 seconds". It is starting in the 'standalone' mode and I am able to connect through the remotegui. The server is running on AIX. The log doesnot have any information regarding what is happening. Please help.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I am starting the GUI by executing the script RemoteGui.bat and I am able to connect to SDM of other servers. There is one particular server whose SDM server doesnot start in integrated mode.
Passing the command ./sdm.sh jstartup mode=integrated ends with return code = 0. And after that I pass the command ./StartServer.sh. These commands are as per SAP Note 860939. I have waited for 600 seconds as you have suggested and the following is the snapshot from the sdmlog20060929.log file:

How to change mode of SDM server in CE7.1 ?

Hi All,
I want to change the mode of SDM server from 'standalone' to 'integrated'.
So i looked for "/usr/sap/<SID>/<INSTANCE_NAME>/SDM/" directory according
to :

But surprisingly there is no 'SDM' folder available at the given location.Can anybody tell me how to change SDM mode in CE7.1 ?

Hi Ashish,
the SDM tool has been discontinued as of SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1. The new tool for deployment is integrated is called Deploy View and it's completely integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
Check <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/3c/52413e7bcd561ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm">this</a> piece of documentation for more information. There, you'll also see alternative options for deployment - to integrate third-party, JSR 88-compliant deployment tools, or using scripts.

Could not start SDM Server - another Server may be running already

Hi
I have some problems with SDM after upgrade to SP16.
Right now i can't neither start it, nor change password..
it has an error but i don't understand it, because i have only one instance and the server is stopped.
I'm enclosing the error, please, if you have some ideas let me know.

None of the prerequisits of the note exists on my system.
"1)There is a started SDM server on the system. All SDM commands have to be executed when there is no started SDM server. Or SDM port is busy by another application."
Server is on red color. I had reseted all tha instance, nobody use it, any applications.

Yes, i ran before the next command: Execute :
sdm jstartup "mode=standalone" "sdmhome=C:/usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/SDM/program"
"3. SDM port is busy by another application."
the port is only used for sdm wich is off...
Anyway, in order to get the solution, i started with the steps described on the note, but i had a problem with the StopServer.bat
3.Run
StopServer.bat (for Windows)
When i run it, i got another message (i though a similar one):
"Sending shutdown on port 50018
Shutdown failed: SDM currently runs in monolithic mode. Logons cannot be accepted.
Could not shutdown server.

Error updating Portal from SP13/14 to 15 - SAP_JAVASL - Server in Safe Mode

Hi Experts
while updating the Portal 7.0 from mixed state 13/14 to SP15 the JSPM finished (all components marked as deployed) but the server didn`t come up after hours.
Exit JSPM - Relogged into JSPM - Only JSPM was marked as deployed-
So I Deployed again - Kernel was deployed but in Component SAP_JAVASL another error occured:

Follow the below steps:
1. Stop manually the JSPM process.
2. Start the Config Tool script file from the /usr/sap/<SID>/<instance name>/j2ee/configtool/ directory.
3. From the menu choose "File" --> "Safe Mode". A dialog box appears.
4. Choose "No" from the "Safe Mode Enabled" drop-down list.
5. Choose "OK".
6. Save the settings and confirm all the messages that are displayed.
7. Restart the J2EE Engine.

How to start server in debug mode by default

Hi,
Whenever the server starts it does not start in debug mode.
One has to manually start the "SDM" and "Server0" in the debug mode.
Is there a way I can make the server start in debug mode for the first time itself.

Hi Saurabh,
You can start the server in debug mode using config tool. Just open cofig tool (/usr/sap/<SYS ID>/JC<SYS NR>/j2ee/configtool/configtool.bat).
Click on the your instance. Then under the tab Servers Debug check Debuggable and also Enable Debug mode.
Restart the engine now.
However a word of caution: Starting the server in debug mode decreases the system performance. You should only start the dev server in debug mode.

SDM server does not start (J2EE)

currently i'm trying the Calculator example, But when it comes to deployment, NetWeaver couldn't connect to the SDM Server.
It seems that this server wasn't startet. The problem is, i'm not able to start this server and i don't know why.
In the Management Console i see the following nodes (my pc is named STGN0017):
+ STGN0017

 - Process List (green)
 msg_server.exe (Running)
 enserver.exe (Running)
 - Syslog
+ STGN0017 0 (yellow)
 - Process List (yellow)

When i open the J2EE View (Window > ShowView > J2EE Engine) i see the following:

 - SDM (red)
 - server0 (red)
If i try to investigate the server with a Browser i get the following message (Adress: http://localhost:50000/):
Dispatcher running but no server connected!
Has anyone an idea how to solve this? Restart in the MMC doesn't help.
I have installed SneakPreview15. But before, SneakPreview 14 was installed. Th installation of 14 crashed during database setup and i removed all files i could find and did a system recovery before installing 15.

SDM Server Stopping with return Code 8 in WAS 6.4

I have got full version of JAVA for WAS 6.4. Im able to install the whole thing successfully. After successful installation SDM Server is stopping with (I mean the instance of Server 0 is in Yellow) return Code 8.
Can any one tell me how to fix the problem

Run sdm in "mode=integrated". The problem is: you run SDM in standalone mode.

SDM agent is not registered with SDM server of Solution Manager server

We are in process of configuring EWA report for JAVA stack of SAP system along with ABAP stack. For ABAP stack the EWA report generation is straight forward and it is working fine. We are facing the problem while configuring EWA report for JAVA stack. Pls. find below the steps that we have followed and currently where we are stuck,
1) Installation of Willy introscope on Solman server.
2) Define JAVA component for each SAP system in SMSY
3) Installation of SDM Agent on all managed systems
4) Trying to attach SDM Agent to SDM server(solman) with the use of smdsetup.bat (managingconf & sldconf ).still we are getting error in smd agent log file as given below:

Starting Server in Debug Mode - Need Some Advice Plz.

Hi Guys,
I have an EP SP 12 Server Running and I am trying to Start the Server in Debug mode from the Netweaver Developer Studio but when I right click the Server and try to choose Debug, the option is greyed out and even while viewing the Debug option from the SAPMMC I see that under the column Debug, it say 'Disabled' for the Server and Dispatcher.
Can anyone suggest how this can be done, I would appreciate any help as I have been working on this for some time.

Hi John,
If the you cannot start the server in the debugging mode through the NWDS then you can try the other way round.
Through Config Tool:
You can enable the debuggine mode from the Config Tool as well. Just visit the following path :
C:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<SYS_NO>\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat
Click on the your instance. Then under the tab VM Environment, Set the DebugMode = true.
Restart the engine now. This will open the J2EE server again in the Debug Mode.

How to Connect to ftp server in active mode using the finder

How can I can I use the finder command "connect to server" to connect to a ftp server using the active Mode. With Cyberduck I can connect to this server only in active mode. Apparently the connect to server command uses the ftp passive mode.
Or is it an other way to mount on the desktop a ftp server in active mode?

Passive mode can be disabled in your network settings, but I have a feeling what you're actually asking for is the ability to upload, and the answer to that is the Finder can't do it. There are some filesystem plugins out there that provide this functionality, but they cost money.

You didn't find answer for this, because it is not possible. If you run your program in background, it is running on the server, and does not have any connection to your local machine. That's why you can't upload/download in background mode.
You might try to address somehow your local PC, with its IP or MAC address, but I don't think does this task worth so much time.
Run your program in online mode, or if you want to run it in background, then upload your file into the SAP server.

FTP Server in FXP mode : PASV / Illegal PORT Command

In our workflow, we transfer the media files with the FTP protocol in mode FXP (server to server), the commands are initiated by an automation system.
This system work with the plateforms windows (serv-u), linux (vsftpd), osx (tnftpd) but it's impossible on a osx server (xftpd). The aim is to write file on our Xsan.
The error is an illegal PORT command, when the automation system sent the IP adress of the other server.
For test, If the IP adress of the destination server is the same that the automation server, the transfers are good, the PORT command is accepted.
But in our case, the ip adress, is a other server...
We can't to run the ftp server in FXP mode, and I do not want to install a Pureftp for to replace the tools included with osx server (and server admin).
I think that's is possible, because this workflow works on a osx after we have modify the ftpd.conf (checkportcmd off).
We not found in the file ftp access and nothing on the Internet, that's why I write on this board.
I need your help, anyone have a solution, it's really important ?
