SDRAM Full Test on 80gb iPod w/ Video?

Yesterday when I was connecting my FM accessory I got some wierd screen, and then the iPod displayed "SDRAM Full Test Please wait.." which I did, and now it's blinking. According to the screen, blinking means the test was a "pass", but the iPod is frozen. The other message o the screen is "Reset to continue." When connecting it to my pc, the PC doesn't recognize it, and the iPod is just blinking away. I can't reset it. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice?
pc   Windows XP

FYI, the issue was resolved when the battery ran down. I then charged it back up and everything's been fine since.
Thanks for the replies, but I did both things - holding down the menu & middle button for 10 seconds, sliding the lock key, etc - nothing worked. Only letting it run out of juice seemed to work. Sigh.

  • Ipod classic flashing SDRAM full test - I need help

    Hi All,
Glad I found this site. I have 2 Ipods and having trouble with my Ipod Classic (30 GB). I had charged it up, turned it off and locked it. I unlocked it today
and probably pushed the centre button, and the menu and the play to get it started. Anyway, it is now flashing this message:
    SDRAM Full Test
    please wait...
    RUN: DB on
    PASS: BL blink
    FAIL: BL off
    Reset to continue.
The whole thing seem to be frozen; I can't get it to do anything but flash this message. What does it mean? I don't want to reset and loose everything, as I'm kind of using it as a back up for pics I took off my computer, etc. Can Someone please help me with this? Thanks for any advice, Carolfromtoronto

found the answer! - posted in 2010 from Bryan: hold the centre and menu buttons down at the same time for about 15 seconds. Had to do it about 3 times until the apple icon comes up and then its ok. Thank you.
Now to update my 'stuff'. I love this board! Thanks.

  • SDRAM full test;  blinking ipod

My early model ipod will not stop blinking.  The screen says "SDRAM full test; please wait (I've waiting 8 hours) and reset to continue"  I have tried multiple times to reset but nothing has worked.  Any suggestions?

    Hello bgutsy,
Are you able to connect the iPod to iTunes?  If so, try restoring it.  If not, let the iPod's battery completely drain before attempting to use it again.
How were you resetting the iPod?

  • SDRAM Full Test

I went to diagnostic mode and am doing the SDRAM Full Test but the screen says Please wait... then RUN: BL on then PASS BL blink and then FAIL BL off and then says Reset to continue. Do i just leave it like that till it does something? Will this burn into the screen?

Did you ever receive an answer or figure out the problem? Just turned on my ipod and have the exact same message.

  • SDRAM in full test

This morning I turned on my iPod . The top of the screen is black and says SDRAM Full Test. The rest of the screen says "Please wait... RUN: BL on PASS: BL blink FAIL: BL off. Reset to continue. I purchase this in 2006 is really old but this is only the second time in years this happen and the first time was in 2006.
I have toggle on and off. I also have follow direction to push on center wheel and menu for 10 seconds with no luck. I can not tell if it is charged. I also plug into the computer and it is not recognized. I also have a old Mac Pro 10. 4 so can't download Itunes.
I have been thinking about a new lap top maybe I need to retire all my old stuff but it works for me.
I have tried to reset my iPod numerous times, and even looked on this site to make sure I was doing it right, and it will not respond. I even tried to connect it to my computer and nothing happened. I left my iPod at home hoping maybe the battery would die, and it has been on for several hours and will not come off this screen. I don't know how I got to this screen or how to get rid of it. Can someone please help me?

A Reset is what you need to do.  Sounds like you tried already, but be sure to do it precisely as described in this document

  • INFO about new 80GB ipod video

    Hi,
i'have (may be) a very stupid question about the 80gb ipod, but i'm a new ipod customer so...i don't know
Well: the real capacity of the ipod 80 gb's hardisk is pratically 74 gb? and not 80 gb?
    Sorry for the basically question!
    Bye

All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.

  • 80gb iPod not playing videos

Here's a problem i could find an answer to after looking through these forums and all the apple info.
just got the new 80gb ipod and bought a few videos of the itunes music store. now two of these videos play for about two seconds then begin to skip or lag ? The thrid actually has a higher total bite rate then the first two.
Now i'm thinking that it would make sense for videos from the itunes store to play on the ipod.
    Anyone have an ideas.

I have a similar problem. Bought three videos from the Apple Store and all three of them skip in different places - the pictures freezes, the music continues fo a few seconds and then the picture catches up. All three of the downloads can't have a problem, so it must be a problem with the iPod itself.

  • Will ipod 5G video 80Gb work with B

    Hi,
Just trying to clear this problem up, I have the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air Dock and recently purchased an 80 Gb ipod 5G Video (circa 2006), I purchased this 2nd hand recently from e-bay and it sounds superb through headphones and enables me to store my cd collection in full in apple Lossless format.
However when I dock it with the Zeppelin Air it says that the docked device is not compatible with this ipod. My Ipod touch 1st generation works with the Zeppelin but is only 32Gb in capacity so I was Dissapointed to find that the Ipod 5G video won't Dock, can anyone confirm that it is incompatible with the Zeppelin Air, Regards, Cyber!

    Okay,
Had a response from Bowers & Wilkins about this, they have confirmed that the ipod 5G Video is incompatible with the Zeppelin Air because it does not provide digital out from the dock (30 pin) connector, so hope this can help anyone thinking of purchasing a B&W Zeppelin Air for use with an ipod.

  • Videos freezing on 80gb iPod

I've had a black 80gb iPod for about a year now and never had any problems with it aside from a few freezes that were fixed with the reboot thing (hold on/off, hold menu and center button). Just recently videos that worked fine on my iPod before are freezing. I've tried reboot and watching the video again and it freezes at the same spot. Even, TV shows I bought from iTunes aren't working 100%. They are fine for most of the time, then the video freezes and it makes a nasty sound out of the headphones. I can usually fast forward through the part but now it seems to be getting worse.
I am positive it hasnt had any falls or anything lately, it's been in my room for the past 3-4 weeks. The only thing I can think of now is copying everything to my computer and totally restoring it. The problem with that is that then I would have to get software to do that. Is there any other ideas to try before I do that and do you think that would even work?
    Thanks

    Ok, that's what I expected.
Regarding the software to copy the stuff from your iPod to the computer... Are they all pretty much the same? Because I got a Tune tools thing from Bestbuy from my Grandama and I just want to make sure it's not going to corrupt any of my files. I've invested a lot of money on stuff for that and I don't have a backup of any of it. I don't have any experience with any of these programs so hopefully you guys know what's good and bad.

  • Genius Bar Response to 80gb iPod Classic not syncing to iTunes 9.0

Ok so basically I have been having the same problems as every other 80gb iPod classic owner that has been on this discussion board. Ever since I downloaded the new iTunes update, my ipod has been unable to sync to my computer. Now I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps (uninstall, restore, reset, different computer, etc) and NOTHING works. Basically when I connect my ipod I get the clicking noise it makes when it connects, however that is quickly followed by the annoying disconnect sound. My ipod does in fact show up in My Computer, but as far as iTunes is concerned, all I get is a window to pop up in the upper left hand of the screen saying "Verifying files". After that toggles through for about 5 min, I get the error message in the bottom right corner saying something along the lines of E: Ipod control could not be saved, etc.
I finally got so frustrated that I made a genius bar appt. To my dismay, I got the exact response that I was expecting. The, otherwise friendly assistant, had no clue what the problem was with my Ipod. I described all my issues and he even tried restoring the ipod, tried a different computer, etc and after about 30 minutes all he could say was that he didn't know what the problem was. His worthless excuse was simply that it looked like I had some corrosion on the bottom of my ipod and so that might have fried a circuit or something. However my ipod was working completely fine before the new itunes update. In fact when I disconnect from my computer, my ipod seems to be working properly (i.e. it responds to my touch, it cycles through the menus, etc), but unfortunatly all my music is gone.
As I'm sure is the case with most Classic owners, I have had mine for about 2 years and so I was of course out of warranty. My only options at this point are to pay ~ $140 to replace the same 80gb ipod or just buck up and pay $300 for the new iPod Touch. Considering I'm still convinced this is Apple's shady business tactic of phasing out the older gen ipods, I think my best bet is to go with the Touch.
God I hate when they get shady like this.
    Good luck to anyone else.

    1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
    2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
    Retracts: 861
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2097
    Starts/Stops: 856
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.

  • HELP !!!Everything deleted itself off my 80gb ipod,CAN I GET IT BACK? HELP!

I am hoping someone can help me,i am very stressed!!!I have an 80gb ipod i bought 15 months ago.No problems.
I bought a new ipod touch 2 weeks ago as well.uploaded stuff fine.Went to update all my podcasts on my old one last week, everything has gone!! all 300 movies and 6000 songs as well as all my podcasts!! We have 4 ipods in the household all on the same computer all using manual sync.My old one is still set to manual sync,so not sure why everything has gone!
I dont have anything backed up : (
Now,one question is that when i look in my summary when i plug it into itunes,i have 65gb showing up in the orange column as "other" and my ipod is showing up as full! I was able to put back a little bit of video, podcasts and music, but what is this "other"????? Is this my stuff somehow hidden???
Can i get my old stuff back again?
I am stressing out big time as i have spent a fortune borrowing stuff from the video store to burn to ipod to watch when i travel!!
Can anyone help,i will love you forever!!!!

You'd better have absolutely all of your media in iTunes, or it'll be gone forever...
Restore your iPod (pretty big, obvious button) and resync all your stuff. Only way I know.

  • Where can i buy 5th gen 80GB ipod?

Now that the new ipod clasic is out replacing the 5th gen ipod, which i think is much nicer looking, whats going to happen to all the 5th gen ipods? I have a 60GB now and want to upgrade to to an 80, but i dont want to buy the "classic" because i think the full metal jacket looks ugly.

*i dont want to buy a refurb.*
    Because?
A refurb is identical to a new model except it is a lot cheaper.
Same warranty, same accessories, new case, etc.
*there should be plenty of new 5th gen ipods out there.*
There should be some but they are still going to be $349.
A new 5G 80GB iPod video is going to cost the same as the 160GB iPod Classic.
They are not going to be discounted anywhere.

  • I am getting an 'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted" message from my 80GB iPod Classic.

I am getting an 'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted" message from my 80GB iPod Classic. It plays music fine and has 2.5 GB of space left. I get the message on multiple PC's and USB ports. I have tried resetting it and using Disk Mode. Any advice?

    In my Computer folder
    Right Click the iPod
    Select properties->tools->error check
tick both fix filesystem error and surface scan.
    Press  OK
May take about 2 hours to complete.
PS: dont be in a hurry to disconnect your iPod, as future recurrence will come, as the HD is almost full, do back up your iTunes library, before your iPod HD gives the dreaded fatal Red X sign.
    Good Luck!
