SE 11g2 RAC in AIX

Hi.
Can I use Oracle 11g R2 (SE) RAC on AIX platform if one node on processor "POWER 6" and second node on processor "POWER 7"?
Regard
Spencer

Ty Helios:
I read this documents before post thread and hasn't found the answer to question about different processor within cluster.
Ty Werner:
Please post always a 4-digit version number, not only Oracle marketing labels.Oracle Standard Edition Database 11.2.0.1.0.
11.2.0.2 is certified for Single Instance ONLY Can you post link on documentation about this ?....
In general I prefer same configuration in a RAC environment, even if some differences are tolerated. If one node is much more powerful than the other(s), the >whole internal RAC handling is likely confused.
Technically it's possible to install 11.2.0.1 in such an environment. Thanks for the help. It's nice.

  • 10G RAC on AIX without ASM & HACMP.

    Hi,
I want to install ORACLE 10G RAC on AIX but I dont want ot use ASM or HACMP/GPFC.
Just want to install with CRS and RAW devices. Is it possible to install 10g RAC with CRS and RAW devices.
What is the best approach for this.
    Regards

We're running CRS on AIX. No ASM or HACMP.
We do have the db datafiles on GPFS. We've also got one voting disk on GPFS and two on raw devices.

  • RAC on AIX 6.1 with HACMP

    Hi
Can I have installation procedure and documents to Install 10gR2 RAC on AIX 6.1 using HACMP(for cluster control) instead of Oracle Clusterware. Is that possible ? anyone tried it before and share the experience.
    Regards,
    Akthar

Do you have any particular reason for using HACMP cluster control instead of CRS?
As you are going to install 10GR2 RAC So there is no need to use HACMP because 10G CRS can be installed without OS clusterware.
However CRS can be installed along with HACMP but oracle services should be controlled with CRS inly.

  • 10g R2 RAC in AIX

    Hello,
I always work with Linux (red hat) to build our RAC clusters, and I never have seen "abnormal" performance and stability issues.
Well, now I'm in a project to build a RAC in AIX 5.3. Somebody please can share the experience on this plataform? What is the "best practice" use or not HACMP? I've search in metalink and there's a lot of bugs related to Clusterware in AIX, the system is stable with RAC?
    Thanks.

    Hi user572788,
HACMP is optional option for RAC on AIX, start with 10g, Oracle Clusterware doesn't depends on vendor cluster. I have a RAC 10g on AIX running with HACMP too, as long as you configured correctly and in certification matrix, you shouldn't see any problems. For me RAC on AIX is quite stable but still has a small issues. No system is perfect in this world

  • RAC Newbie: Does RAC on AIX require HACMP?

I've never installed/configured RAC before, and the documentation I'm finding has conflicts on whether HACMP needs to be installed. One FAQ states the following:
Is HACMP needed for RAC on AIX 5.2 using GPFS file system?
The newest version of GPFS can be used without HACMP, if it is available for AIX 5.2 then you do not need HACMP
Another documentation article states HACMP is REQUIRED for 9i RAC on AIX.
Does anyone know the real answer to this question? Our configuration is AIX 5.3, GPFS 2.1, Oracle 9.2.0.4. Thanks in advance!!

The latest information from Oracle says:
    Oracle9i RAC always requires HACMP.
HACMP is optional for Oracle Database 10g RAC.

  • RAC on AIX

Does RAC on AIX require HACMP or GPFS?. I think these are licensed products of IBM. Can't I use CRS without HACMP or GPFS?.
    OS: AIX 6.1
    DB : 10.2.0.4

    Hi Boochi,
    Yes. It is possible!
    See on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14201/storage.htm#sthref602
You must use raw devices to store OCR and Voting disks and ASM to store database files

  • RAC and AIX and NetApp

    Hi everybody,
I can find numerous certification statements confirming RAC 9iR2 runs on AIX.
I can also find certifications that NetApp will support 9iR2 RAC.
I haven't yet found a certifiaction statement covering all three.
Has anybody out there implemented 9iR2 RAC on AIX on a NetApp device?
    Adrian

    Hi,
GPFS is not free, and needs to be purchased.
ONLY GPFS 2.3 is certified with RAC as for today.
Certification for 3.1 ion under way.
About 9iRAC and HACMP on AIX 5.3, ONLY HACMP 5.1,5.2 and 5.3 are supported, not yet HACMP 5.4. For info, 10gRAC is only supported with HACMP 5.1 and 5.2.
To find out how to setup HACMP for a 9iRAC installation, you can use the following document, available on http://www.oracleracsig.org :
    CookBook V3.2 - Oracle 9iRAC on IBM@server pSeries running AIX5L
(Step-by-step installation guide for 9iRAC on AIX5L. Whith HACMP for database on concurrent raw devices And IBM GPFS for database on shared cluster filesystem. Including HACMP and GPFS setup.
The document covers HACMP 5.1 or 5.2, not 5.3 release, but it should be nearly the same with some screen changes.
Point which is different with the cookbook for now, it's the way to create the lv (logical volume), you should use the "-T O" options for it.
    Hope it will help.
    Regards.
    Fred.

    Hi
I need to install Oracle RAC on IBM AIX 6.1. For shared storage, we need gpfs.base as per documentation.
We are using Netapp SAN for storage.
Are there any alternatives to gpfs.base which can be used so that both nodes have access to same SAN storage ?

  • Question: Rac Install Aix With HACMP

    Hello,
I will be installing Rac on 11g aix and will be using raw partitions to configure OCR & voting disks without using HACMP. I however have the HACMP file sets installed, will this affect my install or cause any problems.

    Hi There
I had issues installing 10.2.0.1 CRS software.. not too sure about 11g however in principle this will have a problem .. We had to cleanup the filesets.
You will have issues when you run root.sh and will error message like following
"Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack"
    10
    # Find out AIX Filesets.
    lslpp -l |grep -i hacmp
    # Uninstall file sets
    HACMP filesets

Make usre you remove /opt/ORCLcluster directory .. and follow the CRS reinstall metalink doc if you have already tried installing CRS once.
    Hope this helps

  • RAC-swap-AIX

    Hello
I have a RAC environment with two nodes, see that the node1 is having problems with the swap area.
The area swap grows continuously until the ceiling and does not release at any time, causing it to reboot the node, which I have caused several crashes in the database.
    Our environment is :
    SO - AIX 5.3
Database - Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) - 5G swap area (we will increase it to 10G)
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

  • RAC on AIX HACMP cluster.

May be this is not a correct forum for this question. But Still......
    Hi,
Could anyone please let me know where do i get HACMP depot. Do i need to download from IBM site(I didnt find anything there) or from any other download site? or
will it be bundled with any one OS media CD?
    Please help!!!.

    Oracle 9i RAC requires HACMP
Oracle 10g RAC comes with Oracle clusterware, can use HACMP, but doesn't require it.
Oracle 11g RAC comes with Oracle clusterware, can use HACMP, but doesn't require it.
Please explain why you require RAC. 9i is desupported, so when installing a supported version of Oracle, no HACMP is required.
