  • How do I create a functional bookmark shortcut on my Linux Zorin 6.0 desktop using Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1?

    I am a VERY recent transferee from Windows-XP SP-3 using IE-8 to Linux Zorin 6.0 using Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1. The Linux program Emulation, using GnoMenu 2.9, is similar to Windows-7. The transferrence of my Bookmarks (Favorites) from Windows system to the Linux system was successful. However, I seem to have lost the capablility of opening/viewing my Bookmarks from the desktop. I must now have to open Mozilla Firefox browser in order to open/view my Bookmarks.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Since I am VERY new to Linux OS, the advice should be test-proven (Beta tested), accurate, and fail-safe.

    Why should you wish to open the bookmarks from the Desktop without opening Firefox ?
    Note that Firefox will import and export HTML bookmark files, but does not natively use HTML bookmarks. The bookmarks along with the history are in a SQL database ''places.sqlite'' and backups are .json files .
    The bookmarks library can be searched and sorted, and may include tags keywords and a visit count.
    If what you are trying to do is have individual desktop shortcuts to individual webpages that should be easy to do. On Windows or Ubuntu the icon from the firefox URL bar will dragon & drop to the desktop and create a shortcut.
    If you wish a shortcut to the library try
    * chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul
    That will work from the address bar to open the library as a tab, or if used as a part of a desktop shortcut it used to will open the Library directly in Firefox, have not tried it recently.

  • Can I download and install the pre-ICS, full desktop version of firefox to use as my browser with my lapdock (webtop mode)?

    I just bought a lapdock to use with my droid 4 for work. Long story, but I needed internet access to get my work done, and there is none here. I thought this would be a great workaround. However, with the ICS update, the webtop mode of my phone does not feature the full desktop firefox that the old OS used. The mobile firefox works ok, but it is not fully compatible with the sites that I need to be working on.
    So, basically, I'm looking for a way to use the firefox version that was featured in the webtop mode of motorola phones (maybe others too) and was web enabled to mimic a full laptop experience.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to download the old desktop android webtop firefox onto my phone that I could then use from my app drawer whenever I am hooked up to my lapdock? It would make my life a million times easier - and is the main selling point of me buying the dock in the first place. I hope that someone has a way for me to get this done. Thanks!

    The lapdocks were running a 'normal' ARM Linux install and just used the desktop Linux Firefox. The ARM Linux version of Desktop Firefox won't run on Android's Dalvik VM (Java). We did not do the customization for that Motorola did and last I heard they had stopped supporting lapdocks.

  • Stop pop up ad that appears desktop after closing firefox

    Need help to stop Firefox advertisement that appears on desktop after closing Firefox. Not very proficient with computers and need help to discontinue this pop-up.
    Thanks,

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

  • Why do i keep getting a 2nd shortcut on my desktop for Mozilla-Firefox. I keep deleting the 2nd icon and it keeps coming back.

    I started getting a 2nd shortcut icon on my desktop for Mozilla Firefox. Every time I delete this 2nd icon, it comes back and I don't know why.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • My new computer has backed up Firefox bookmark files from my old computer on the new computer's desktop, but I can't open them ; also, how do I get this desktop file into firefox's bookmark list?

    My old Vista computer died, but I had backup of my old Firefox .json bookmark files and installed this folder on my new window's 7 computer's desktop. But I can't seem to open these files (windows cant find a program to open them with, and I don't seem to have .json files in my file association list) or import them into the new computer's Firefox bookmarks list.

    That's great, matthungo, I'm glad it worked and you've got your Bookmarks back. Wishing you and yours a wonderful and blessed Holiday season as well!

  • Links on my desktop have the firefox .ico and not the web link .ico Can this be automaticly attached like IE does

    When I place an internet link on the desktop using Firefox 3.6.13 the link (.ico) icon is replaced with the Firefox (.ico) icon instead.
    IE transfers this icon to the desktop with the link text.
    Can someone fix this?

    You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
    You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there. <br />
    Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

    When I double click the icon on my desktop it takes 30 40 seconds for Firefox to start. I did this in fire fox 5.0 and 6.0. Firefox 3.6 had no trouble and IE8, Google Chrome and Safari has no trouble. Running win XP with 2 gig ram. 3.06 P 4 cpu on Dell 2400.

    I have these problems, too, and they're making think it's time to give up on Firefox.

  • Create a desktop shortcut to firefox bookmarks

    I'd like to cut out a step or two of accessing my bookmarks by being able to open the bookmark library dialog right from my desktop. Is there a way to create a shortcut or widget to do this? • How do I know what my current is of Firefox for my Desktop? Can Firefox see what version I have?

    Had some difficulty updating to 4.0. In the process popped up on my desktop were multiple icons and update buttons. How do I confirm I have succeeded in installing 4.0? Firefox continues to remind me to update to 4.0? Can't Firefox "see" I have updated to 4.0 or is that reminder for someone else

    Go to '''Help '''| '''About Firefox'''. It will show in there which version your have installed which appears to be 4.0.1
    You can disable the reminders by clicking the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Advanced and in the Update tab, uncheck Firefox at the top.
    This means you'll have to check manually from time to time whether any new releases have become available.
    Firefox 5.0 will be released on June 21.

  • IE allows the placing of links in files and the desktop. Does Firefox also allow that?

    I like Firefox but don't want it to be my default browser. When I'm at a web page using Internet Explorer, I frequently create a link to that page and save it on my desktop or in a file on my hard drive. When selected, such a link automatically opens IE before going to the web page. In order to use bookmarks, I must first open Firefox. Can I somehow place links (bookmarks) on my desktop when I use Firefox?

    You can drag the site identity button to the desktop and it creates a shortcut for you. You can also drag a bookmark to the desktop and it will create a shortcut.
    If you set Firefox as your default browser all your current links will open automatically in Firefox.
