Seagate Barracuda problem on Pavilion a6551nl with Windows 7

My PC reports a hard drive failure warning at boot up on my two Seagate Barracuda hard drives. I found that HP has a tool to solve this at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-64493-1&cc=nl&dlc=nl&lc=nl&...=.  Unfortunately the tool does not support Windows 7, also not when running the tool in compatibility mode.
Is there a solution for this problem? Is this is a non OS dependant BIOS update or an OS patch?
Regards,
Dirk

I would recommend using the following document to troubleshoot your issue:
Hard Drive Failure Errors
Either the hard drive is going bad or their are issues with the hard drive.
That document will help you test the hard drive and see what is causing the issue that you are having. If the hard drive is going bad, it also includes steps on how to back up the hard drive and recover it if you need to.

My computer is a  Pavilion p6330f  with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit system.  It bothers me when I get error messages and can't seem to correct the problem.  After loging onto my computer  a message comes on that the HP Advisor stopped working. When I attempt to load the HP Advisor it gives me the same message and does not come up.

HP Advisor-one of the first things I uninstall, flaky software.
Have you tried the update for Advisor from your support & drivers page?

  • How do I enable the blue function keys on an old Pavilion N5445 with Windows XP?

Yes, how do I enable the blue function keys on an old Pavilion N5445 with Windows XP?
The blue function keys currently do not work.
There is NO mention of the function keys (or even action keys) in the BIOS.
Let me repeat that so that nobody posts a stupid link to how to turn on the function keys in the BIOS. THIS IS AN OLDER LAPTOP.

Somehow the function keys got turned off. So I suspect there's a way to turn them on again.

  • Getting my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 back to normal after a system recovery.

I did a system recovery for my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 and have all of my files on a SanDisk thumb drive. How do I get my laptop's files, folders, shortcuts, applications, etc. all back to the way they were?

Hello marinegf.  I understand you've lost your sound after performing a System Restore.
What is the product number for your notebook?  There are many versions of the HP 2000 and this will make it easier for me to locate any appropriate software.  This document can show you how to identify the notebook by the product number.
Also, it may be helpful to know what issue you encountered which led you to perform a System Restore.
The first suggestion I can offer you is to run Microsoft's Audio Troubleshooter.  Here is a link to the utility.
If the troubleshooter is unable to resolve the issue I suggest you next try removing the driver and allowing Windows to perform the reinstall.  I assume you're using Windows 7, so these instructions will be for Vista/7.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot your computer and allow Windows to perform the reinstallation of the driver.
Verify whether or not you have sound and post the result!
I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  I hope you have a great day!

  • Freeze on HP Pavilion a6551nl with Seagate Barracuda harddisks

I have a HP Pavilion a6551nl. I have a problem with 2 Seagate Barracuda harddisks causing the system to freeze without any error message. First with 1 harddisk (1,5 TB). Because I thought the harddisk was bad a purchased a new harddisk, also a Seagate Barracuda (3 TB) but encountered the same problem. Running the HP diagnostics both disks gave an error BIOHD-8. Other disks I have are OK (Samsung and WD).
On the HP support page for my PC I found a tool that would fix issues with Seagate SATA drives: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-64493-1&cc=nl&dlc=nl&lc=nl&...=. However this tool supports only Windows Vista and not my Windows 7. Is there a tool or solution for Windows 7?

    Hi,
Review this posted HP article on Seagate hard drives.  You can create a bootable CD.
This entire thread is about Seagate hard drive issues.
Be sure to backup your system and data before using the update.
Try using the bootable CD. If you have more than one Seaate hard drive, then unplug the other drive and then try updating just one drive. Then use the same process on the other drive.

I also disassembled and reassembled for second time to find out if the problem was minor like an unplugged cable but everything was completely fine. Operation system: Windows 7 64 bit.  Can someone please tell me what to do?

  • Canon MG6220 wierd zooming/cropping printing problem, only when printing with Windows XP?

The printer in question is a Canon Pixma MG6220, connected to a WindowsXP printer.  I've printed this same document on a Brother laser printer, that is connected to the same computer, and it prints correctly.  I've printed this same document on a Epson inkjet printer, and it prints correctly.  I've printed this same document at Staples, on one of their big laser printers, and it prints correctly.  So, this printing problem is only occurring with this Canon printer. One other thing that may help you with this, is that last night I moved this Canon printer to another computer, except this one had Windows 7 on it, and it printed flawlessly!  So, it seems that it may have something to do with Windows XP printer driver.
I'm printing a one page document from Word 2002 which consists of about 10 pictures, no text.  All the pictures on the page are the same height but a different width.  When I print the document, some of the pictures print correctly and some of them do not.
Essentially, what is happening is that some pictures are zoomed in about 50%, yet still print in the same area that is set in the document.  So, the image looks like it has been rudely cropped.
The oddest thing is that this only happens to some of the pictures.  There is nothing special about these pictures.  The pictures that print correctly are from the same source as the ones that don't print correctly. I’ve done other Word documents like this, with the same format but different pictures, and they printed wrong too, some pictures correct and some zoomed/cropped.
Here is a summary of the pictures from the files I attached,  and which ones  printed correctly, and which did not:  The first one is a screen capture of the Word document, and the other is a scan of the printed document.
    Row 1
        Pic 1 – error (zoomed/cropped), Pic 2 – error, Pic 3 – correct, Pic 4 – error
    Row 2
        Pic 1 – correct, Pic 2 – correct, Pic 3 – correct
    Row 3
        Pic 1 – error, Pic 2 – error, Pic 3 – correct, Pic 4 – error
    Row 4
        Pic 1 – error, Pic 2 – error, Pic 3 – correct
One observation of the incorrectly printed pictures, is that the upper left corners appear unaffected.  It is the lower right corners that get the weird zooming/cropping effect.

Urgently restore a backup of the registry.
Urgently do not use the word 'urgently' in a forum of volunteers.
Also it can not be urgent, as Forms 4.5 dates from the Flintstone age, and probably isn't even certified on XP.
However, the error message is very clear: Apparently Forms 4.5 uses the registry to store printer info: you need to get that entry back. That kind of info is usually documented. Documentation is likely still online.

  • Problem saving HTML files with Windows 7

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 and I installed my (old) Macromedia Dreamweaver MX.
Everything seemed to be working normally until I hit "ctrl + s" to save my HTML file.
It gave me this error message:
    Access to J:\Websites\MyWebsite\public_html\index.html was denied
I then tried to save by going to File --> Save, and that didn't help either and gave me the same error message above.
Can anyone help me out so that I can save my HTML files? I don't have the money at the moment to either upgrade or buy the newest version of Dreamweaver.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion a1210n running Windows Vista 32bit. I'm missing the audio drivers and can't seem to find them. Can you point me to a link for these drivers?
    Thanks, It's much appricieated!

I found this link but it doesn't talk about audio drivers in the multimedia package. Am I missing something? Does Vista need to have all OS updates installed for this to work?
    Thanks again!

  • How do i reset my pavilion g7 with windows 7 laptop?

I need to reset my pavilion when I hit the F11 key nothing happens

    Hi,
There are Two options to try and reinstall Windows - the 2nd is the easiest, but you may want to try the 1st to see if it will save you having to order a replacement set of discs - make sure to back-up any important files first.
    1.  If you can still boot in to Windows, hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and when the partitions have loaded, right click the Recovery Partition and mark it as 'Active'.  Close all open windows and then restart - if this has worked, the notebook will boot from the Recovery Partition upon restart.
    2.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • My HP Pavilion 775C with Windows XP 32 bit SP3 has begun to startup in Windows Recovery Mode.

I have had many problems with my Pavilion a775c desktop, running XP 32 Bit with SP3 and 2.5 G Ram.  I was receiving a Fatal Error message 1327 that Drive M did not exist.  I did a selective startup eliminating the programs I thought were causing this but that did not help.  Then I cleaned away all the files for any HP printer, and for my current printer, an  Officejet j3680 All-in-One, and then reinstalled it.  That took care of the fatal error message but I began to get a message that my DRive D was out of memory.  I deleted some regular files that were previously stored on that drive before I increased the memory on my Drive C but I continued to receive that message.  I cleaned the registry with Registry Mechanic and then deleted files I though would not harm the computer and I no longer get the Drive D low on memory message but now the computer starts up each time in recovery mode and If I'm not there to select the Windows XP option it goes to a dos screen but nothing ever happens from there.   I'm not that familiar with DOS and don't know anything except to type EXIT which I did and the computer would reboot giving my an opportunity to select Windows XP.  Now, however, it won't allow me to type EXIT.  I must instead hit enter and then it goes to the screen that allows me to select the Windows environment.  I really don't want to have to do this each time I start up.  Can anyone help?

I am not that familiar anymore with troubleshooting Windows XP, but way back in the day I seem to recall that the Windows recovery console would be used to fix issues like the one you're describing. It sounds like you may have a corrupted boot sector if it keeps going into the windows recovery mode.  The solution could be as simple as using the last known good configuration or possibly doing a system restore.  You may want to try this link on Technet that explains the recovery console and the tools available in it like fixmbr..

  • Boot up problem ; My G31TM - P35 with Windows 7 OS cannot see my SATA drive

I recently bought a new g31tm-p35 motherboard with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. I also bought a Seagate 500 g harddrive (SATA) and installed my old IDE harddrive. I loaded Windows 7 (32) Pro OS. My problem is that when I boot up my PC, it does not always see my SATA harddrive (drive D) where my OS is loaded on. It sees my old harddrive (c) but there is no OS loaded on that drive. It then gives me a "missing BOOTMGR" error. Can anyone help?

Try another SATA data cable and ensure it's fully seated and no sharp kinks in it, ensure SATA power cable is fully seated or try a different SATA power plug from the PSU. I had a similar problem not long ago and it was due to a PSU power problem for SATA that required a new PSU to fix it.
