Seagate external hard drive works on some computers and not others

I have a 1T Seagate external HD. I upgraded to the new Snow Lepard recently and ever since then I can't access it. There are a ton of posts about this, I know. But when I plug it into my friends Imac, it runs fine. But when I plug it into my MacBook, it says "This device cannot be read by this machine" and asks for me to ignore or eject. I have no permissions. I can't mount or unmount, delete or partition. On the Imac I have all the permissions though. I have changed all the settings to make sure that everyone can read/write. But the laptop still can't use it. I have Iphoto from a few of my friends computer's backed up on it and that doesn't allow you copy it so just erasing or reformatting is out of the question. Any ideas or help would be awesome!

In Flash I have an intro page which plays the intro and at the end has a container in which all the other pages load into (I used the Load External Movie Behavior). How do I troubleshoot installation/distribution of a LabVIEW .exe which processes data using Matlab when it works on some computers but not others?

I've been given the unenviable task of troubleshooting and installing/distributing software written by a former co-worker. I've modified the LabVIEW code and built an .exe file. I've successfully installed the Labview .exe file on several computers, but it won't work on some others. What's more baffling is that I installed it successfully on one computer, uninstalled it, and tried reinstalling it with no success. In fact, it's a new error (Dr. Watson for Windows NT application error). It doesn't help that I have different versions of LabVIEW and Matlab on the target computers. Some have LabVIEW 5.1, some
have 5.0, and some don't have it at all. Some have Matlab 5.2, some have 5.3 (R11) and some have 6.0 (R12). It's also not clear to me where the Matlab m files should be located. I'm not sure if it's a LabVIEW Runtime Engine problem, or if it's a Matlab problem. I've also wondered how LabVIEW and Matlab talk to each other. When LabVIEW calls Matlab, it seems that Matlab is running in the background. In other words, clicking on the Matlab Command Window and typing "whos" or any other command/variable doesn't work.

Whcih external hard drive works best with macs and time machine

I'm looking for an external hard drive preferably at circuit city since I have $100 in gift cards.
I'm looking at the Acomdata pure drive 500 and 750
The Western Digital Mybook essential edition 500 and 750
Simpletech 500GB
Simpletech redrive 500GB
or Maxtor 500GB
I don't which one to pick as there are negative reviews on all of them with crashing after only one year. If not any of these what other one to pick, would like it to be from circuit city, not matter what your opinion might be of them.
I know about the Lacie drives and the G-drive but those seems expensive and only from apple store. I have airport extreme so only need usb connection so i don't care what other ports it has.
It seems like a really tough decision and looking for some help.

Can someone help me? I can video Ichat with some people and not others. HOwever, if the people I can video ichat with put me in a three way chat with someone I can't Icaht video with, it works. Here is the first half of the error I get when I try to call someone with whom it doesn't work:

I found the following comment the other day that goes some way to explaining why iChat might have problems with some NAT routers:

While it doesn't offer any solutions it might be worth firing off some iChat feedback to Apple referencing it. It seems like it might be a trivial bug for Apple to fix and could well alleviate many of the problems people are having.
In the mean time if your router is one that has SIP ALG you could try disabling it and forwarding all relevant ports to your machine.

Flash working on some computers - but not others

Good afternoon,
We had a third party flash developer build out the flash
navigation and masthead videos for a client's web site and although
it works fine on my computer (and on the developer's computer), it
does not work on any of the client's computers or my partner's
computers.

According to the client and to my partner, the video cuts out
after a second or two, and some of the navigation links are coming
up 'not found' (e.g. the Multi-Cultural link in the top
navigation).
Upgrading to the latest version of Flash Player was the first
thing we did, and the problem still exists. I can't for the life of
me figure out why.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I understand that neither method did the repairs you are seeking. My post was a side-note information update for you and others who read these posts, that we haven't had to boot from the install DVD to do a Permissions Repair since Tiger (I think)or maybe even Panther (doesn't matter when the requirement was dropped anyway), and that you can actually set some permissions wrong by using the boot DVD because of changes in the OS since it was installed.
For your problem I recommend creating a new temporary Admin user account and seeing if the problem continues in the new account. If it does, then the problem is in the OS, which can be re-installed over the top of your existing installation (without affecting your files in your user accounts). If the problem goes away, then it could be incompatible or corrupted preference files or other incompatible programs in the user account causing the problems. Right now you haven't isolated the problem to either possibility.

I'm currently backing up using Time Machine and a Seagate external hard drive, how to do I restore on a new computer?

I hate to say it.. But I have never backed up!! I have thousands of pics of my son on this mac book, it got wet and NOW I'm backing up (as i type) to a Seagate external hard drive- I plugged it in, and then Time MAchine launched automatically. It looks like it's backing up my whole computer, is it backing up everything? photos, address book, documents etc? If my computer crashes tomorrow, how would I restore all of this information on a new computer?

Time Machine makes a backup of the whole OS.X volume automatically, so you will have an exact copy of your hard disk in your Time Machine external disk. Also, Time Machine will make backups every hour, always that your Time Machine disk is connected. If you want more information, visit this site > http://pondini.org
To restore this in a new Mac, you have to use Migration Assistant. Just connect the Time Machine drive into the new computer, open Migration Assistant (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps. You will be able to select what you want to transfer.
Also, if you have a brand-new Mac, you can do this during the initial setup. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the Time Machine disk and follow the steps

I am having trouble on transferring photos from iPhoto to my Seagate External Hard Drive

Seagate External hard drive ask for permission from admin when moving files in and to the drive, but I am the admin?

Today I plugged in my seagate 1TB hard drive and every time I want to move my files to the hard drive or in the hard drive itself, I have to give my admin password. The pop up box says: Finder ask for permission, click on Identity control. I never had this before.. This happened today. The settings are set to System - Read and Write, Users - Read and Write and Everyone - Read
This is very confusing. I can still copy and move files but I have to give my password every single time.
