Seagate Momentus 320 gig compatibility with HP Compaq 2210b laptop

Hi,
Yesterday, my laptop's hard drive went. It's the toshiba hard drive that came with the laptop. I've been looking around for a nice replacement and none has caught my attention more than Seagate. I've had Seagate hard drives installed in every desktop i've had and none of them ever broke down, including one i've had since 2001. It's a 20 gig hard drive where i keep a copy of Windows incase something serious happens and i can just ghost it. I was wondering what would be the issues i should be concerned with if i installed a Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320Gb hard drive in replace of my old 160 gig Toshiba? Idk the transfer rate of the SATA drive of my 2210b laptop, but i do know it's backwards compatible. Other than that, i'm concerned about a spring loaded screw lock that Toshiba had and Seagate didnt have. Thanks.

I've been playing with my laptop a bit and found out the case with the spring loaded screw was removable, my laptop was bought back in 2008 and has an ICH8 chipset. Still don't know if a Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320 gig hard drive would work. I don't wanna rush and get the hard drive so im asking if there'll be an issue if i install it to my laptop. Hope anyyone can help me out.

  • PXI 8310 Cardbus doesn't work with HP compaq nx9105 laptop

    Hi,
I have to install a NI PXI 8310 Cardbus on a  HP compaq nx9105 (which is a tested laptop) with a processor ADM Athlon 64, 350 MHz, 1 GB RAM, Win XP Pro. The PCMCIA controllers are "Controller Texas Instruments PCI-1620 Cardbus Controller with Ultramedia".
I follow the instruction of Installation Guide and after installing the Cardbus driver I shut down the computer, I insert the Cardbus 8310, and when I power Up a message of error is showing.
"One or more card was not configured in your system. If you are seeing this message for the first time, please use the NIDocker icon on your taskbar, select 'Reset Bridge Settings', and reboot the system. If the issue persist etc..."
I do these actions and when I reboot the same error arises.
On Control Pannel's System Manager I can see the situation in the attachment. The PCMCIA controller doesn't work and on the properties of the device it is written that "the specified device generates a resource conflict (code 12)".
    Please Suggest.

    Hi Pietro,
based on the error you are seeing, it might be cause by improper installation of the driver or controller. The installation instructions specify that once the driver is installed you have to reboot the laptop twice before you try installing the 8310. If you complete only one reboot, the driver might not finish the configuration which later corrupts the installation of the 8310. Therefore, try the following:
disconnect the 8310 from the laptop
    uninstall the driver
    re-install the driver
reboot the laptop twice - after you re-boot once there should be a prompt asking you to reboot again
    install the 8310
If this does not resolve the problem, run  <a href="http://www.drivertools.net/Products/Utilities/EngineeringUtilities/PCIScope.htm">PCIScope</a> - a third party software (you can get 14 day free trial version) - and send me a capture of the diagnostic. PCIScope is software that is evaluates and debugs the PCI bridge/subsystems.
I have seen the list of laptop compatible with the NI Cardbus, but your PC is tested with a different controller. So it is possible that the laptop is incompatible due the different controller. With the PCIScope capture we can better determine the root-cause of the problem. If this indeed is the case, we will revise our documentation as far as what laptops with which controllers are supported.

  • HP Pavillion DV6758US compatibility with 320GB 7200 RPM hard disk

    Hi,
My exsisting laptop harddisk (250GB 2.5" 5400RPM Western Digital) is no longer working. Can i replace it with a 2.5" 320 GB 7200RPM Seagate momentus XT harddisk
Is this supported on my laptop and does it require any bios upgrade?

that's a hybrid solid state & platter drive.
    Some machines don't like them.
Other issue is the firmware is not perfect on these yet & some experience stalling issues as exact handling of system files & program files to solid state needs more fine tuning.
This technology is a great way forward but needs more development time really.

  • Will a dv7-2160ed work with a Seagate Momentus XT?

Need to replace my borken HDD.
Will a dv7-2160ed work with a Seagate Momentus XT (SATA 500 mb, 32 mb cache, solid state hybrid)?
    Thanks in advance!

Yeah no problem. It is my recommendation for people who can't quite see the expense of a full SSD drive. The hybrid is still noticeably faster than a pure mechanical drive and it does not have compatibility issues as we sometimes see with the SSDs.

  • Is the T420s ultrabay compatible with the seagate momentus XT 750gb hard drive?

    Hello,
I have a T420s with a 160gb SSD. last friday i got the BAD_CTX error for the SSD drive and lost all of my data. i called lenovo support (still under warrenty) and they told me the drive was fine. i was shocked! never the less, i found a way to get the drive to work again, but this "fix" will delete all the data on the drive.
i want to use the ultrabay to add a new HDD to backup my SSD on and would like to know if the these three products are compatible.
T420s using the ultrabay with a seagate momentus XT 750gb hard drive?
Thanks in advance for your help...

I'm 99.9% certain that the answer is yes. I have a 500GB HDD in my UltraBay with no problems.

If you need to extract the drive's content you can remove it and install it in a $10 USB enclosure. It will be readable by any recent Mac.

  • Freezing with Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB

    Hi,
    I have a MBP 07 (2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) and ordered a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 with 500GB.
I´ve installed Snow Leopard with all the possible updates and I´m having a freezing problem.
Every about 15 minutes I see the beachball for about 2 seconds and the whole system freezes, then the harddisk makes a very strange sound and everything works fine.
So I sent back the harddisk and got a new one, but the same problems with the new one. This is very strange and very bad to work with it.
I´ve tested the harddisk with the harddisk tool, but no problems.
    You can help me?
    Best regards,
    Marc

    Hey Raw,
I posted above you on 11/21, and I actually decided to give my Momentus 500g (with no shock protection, AS only) a go a day or two afterwards. It's been fine for me, no problems at all. I have a mid-08 MB Pro 17" 2.6ghz.
While I know that could change, and I'm willing to see what happens (thanks to SuperDuper and Time Machine backups ready to clone back to my old HDD if necessary), I think that following the steps of setting up the drive properly via Disk Utility (Erase, partition, GUID, etc) is something that makes a difference.
Now that I type this I hope I don't get jinxed. I hope you can find a way to make it work for you. Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro 2.16 (late 2006) and  Seagate Momentus XT 320gb. Does it work?

I would like to upgrade my macbook pro 2.16 C2D (late 2006) with a new hard drive like the Seagate Momentus Xt SSD Hybrid 320gb.
Somebody told me that the hard drive is not compatible with my mac as it supports just 160 GB 5400 RPM or 200 GB 4200 RPM hard drives.
Can anybody tell me if it is true or not? If yes any suggestion of HD?
I already placed the max of ram (3gb, unfortunately) and the hard drive represent the last chance to have a speed boost before a new purchase
    Many thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
As far as I know, there is no intrinsic limitation on the size of the hard drive you can install other than possibly the 9.5 mm height requirement. WD and some others have a 1 TB hard drive which is 12.5 mm tall, and it will only fit in a 17" pre-unibody Mac. The old G3 processor has a limit of 128 GB as I recall, but as far as I know there are no capacity limits on G4 processors or anything since.
If Apple replaces the drive, they will only replace a drive with one that could have originally shipped with it, which would be a 120 GB, a 160 GB, or a 200 GB 4200 RPM drive for the 2.16 C2D. So they would not be willing to install anything larger. This may be where someone got the idea that you couldn't install anything else.
However, there is no reason why you can't.
I recently replaced my original 250 GB 4200 RPM drive with a 500 GB 7200 RPM WD Scorpio Black, and it's working just fine. I see no reason why you couldn't replace your drive with a 320 GB or even a 500 GB Seagate hybrid. I've only heard good things about this drive and know of no reason why it wouldn't work.
    Good luck!

  • I have a serious (and bizarre!) issue with my novation impulse (Although i've tried it with two other keyboards and i still have the same problem) and its compatibility with mainstage 3

i have a serious (and bizarre!) issue with my novation impulse (Although i've tried it with two other keyboards and i still have the same problem) and its compatibility with mainstage 3.
the problem is best explained on the following one - page thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3951518?start=0&tstart=0
(Clearly i'm not alone in this problem, although i think i figured out what's going wrong a little more than he did...read on!)
his solution, to put mainstage in jump mode, is very unsatisfactory to me, as it bounces all of a sudden to drastically different settings.
basically, my analysis is that my controller is NOT receiving MIDI date from mainstage.  in other words, mainstage knows what my controller is doing, but my controller doens't know what mainstage is doing.
let's say i turn the knob all the way to the right ... 127...and the virtual fader goes to the right like it's supposed to.
now...next...let's say i change to a different patch, where that same VIRTUAL fader is not at the max clockwise position..maybe it's only at 1pm.  now when i turn the physical knob to the RIGHT, the midi data is still at 127 on the controller!  it didn't "reset" to sync up with the new level (say 80 or so) setting on the new patch.  so i can't increase that new setting of 80 by continuing to turn the knob to the right.  i have to turn it all the way to zero,...and then continue PAST zero until the controller thinks that IT is at 0...at that point the controller and mainstage are in agreement, and things work fine....so bascially, the keyboard thinks the level is at max...but mainstage thinks the level is at 1pm.
i am using Logic 9, and i have a macbook pro 2.9 Ghz I7 with 8 gigs of memory and OS X 10.8.4

    Hi Josh,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us here a Novation for technical support. Lets continue to correspond via email so we can get your issue resolved.

  • I want to install a Seagate Momentus 5400 250 GB HD Can I?

I have a MacBook 13" with a 1.83capsule  GHz Intel Core Duo and the internal hard drive quit on me. I can't even get disk utilities to see the disk, much less mount it. Fortunately for me, I have a Time Machine on an external HD, and another external HD that I was able to install OS X 10.6.8 (using updates) so I can use the computer.  I am looking at a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 250GB 2.5 Hard Drive-SATA 3GB, 8MB
Can I do this? As the original HD was 60GB, will there be any problem using the 250GB drive? Also, I need to know how to install it (Actually, because my hands shake, I am going to ask a friend to do the actual work).
This is NOT the Seagate Momentus XT that is 7200 rpm spindle speed that seems to be causing trouble to some people.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Yes, the drive you mentioned will work just fine, and someone can install it for you with the proper tools, a very small Torx T8driver, and a very small Phillips #0 screwdriver.
OtherWorldComputing has videos that show the remove/reinstall process step-by-step for each specific Mac model:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
This is the one you'll probably need for your original MacBook:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macbook_13_mem_hd_m/
I've purchased several Mac upgrades from OtherWorldComputing (www.macsales.com) They are a great source of reliable Mac parts and information, and sell separate components as well as complete kits with all the tools necessary for the swap with the hard drive of your choice.
You can purchase tools separately or in a kit including an external USB drive housing to make copying your internal hard drive contents to the new drive easier. Since your internal drive is not working, you may not need want another external housing now, but it might come in handy later.

Thanks Japamac, can I go through this deadhead style...
You can install as many OS's as you want. When you
set your Startup Disk Preferences, you are able to
select the OS that you want, as well as the disk that
    you want.
Does this mean I have to make a partion thing on the same disk for each (even the same) OS?
Do I use the original install disks to do this?
Another way to select startup disk/OS, is to boot
while holding the Option key. This will open the
Startup Manager, and allow you to select which and
where you want to boot from.
This is the screen I remember from my Apple Care Plan Help Desk days
It is a good idea to have a second (and third)
    bootable disk in your system.
Is the third disk on a partion thing ( I have researched this and have found, using "disk utility" I can make "partitions", if I understand correctly, my machine will "see" a partition as a separate disk, am I miles off?
    That way, heaven
forbid, should one disk have trouble booting, you can
use the Startup Manager to select an alternate disk,
and then diagnose and repair the ailing disk from
    there.
Do I use "disk utility" from another partition disk to do this?
This is, actually, a very important thing to
have in your system. by all means, install the OS on
    the other disk.
A partition on the 120gb, how big should the partition be?
Remember, to keep both disks backed up. So, don't
give up on your external drives all together. They
    are VERY useful.
This is where you are going to hate me... I dont have any externals or back ups.... this is why I am trying to work out what to do... I back up my photo's to DVD when I have enough, its not good practice because it can take a months worth before I have time to physically go through all the work to decide what I will archive to DVD, I would love for all of the work to automatically copy itself to a safe place.
While we are on the subject, a very good way to
backup, is to use Super Duper. This is a clone
utility. SD will copy bit for bit, your drive, and
then make that backup bootable. This is a very nice
feature. Also, after that, you can use the Smart
Update feature, which updates any changes of a volume
to it's clone. This way, you always have an exact
copy of your system and data. Invaluable!
This is obviously what I need... I will download it and try to understand its functions
I like OWC, myself. Even with shipping and tariffs to
Japan, it is most often cheaper to do so. Also, the
company is very reputable, has great service (try
their live chat) and stands behind what they sell.
OWC also has lots of install tutorial video (and
PDF's) in their support section. Check it
    out.
I have trusted OWC since you recommended them for my processor upgrade and have just ordered the SATA controller from them and am going to get a 500gb internal HD for now until I can learn to rationalise my disk space... at the moment my files are just copies of themselves on the same disk (120gb)
Hey Japamac... I have to say thank you to you sir, you have obviously put a lot of time and effort into your reply and I really do appreciate it...

  • Lenovo T61p and Seagate Momentus 7200.4 POST problem in UltraBay

Two different T61ps.  Mine is a 6459-CTO model.  Two different Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB drives.  System boots fine, even with a second hard drive installed in the Ultrabay SATA adapter, most recently a Samsung Spinpoint 500GB 5,400rpm drive in mine, but before that 320GB and 200GB drives.  No problems with any of those drives.
Install a Seagate 7200.4 drive in the UltraBay adapter though and turn the system on, and the system won't complete post.  The hard disk activity indicator stays on solid.  The drive activity light on the UltraBay stays on solid.  And the system doesn't leave post.
Unplug the UltraBay and the system boots fine.  The drive can be used if plugged into the system via USB in an external USB/SATA case, and appears to work fine as far as I can tell in this mode.
I have updated the BIOS in this T61p to the latest and the problem persists.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You might try limiting the data transfer rate to 1.5 Gbits per second by setting the jumper if you have one.  That's the limit that the UltraBay adapter is designed for.  Unencoded that limit would be about 1.2 Gbits per second.  The 7200.4 has a very cool internal maximum transfer rate of 1.23 Gbits per second, which might explain the intermittent booting issues.
Hope this helps.  If it does, a report back before Newegg restocks this drive would be useful.

  • Seagate Momentus internal G force protection

    Hello,
I am planning to purchase this exact hard drive upgrade for my macbook.
    Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB 7200RPM SATA drive. ST9200420ASG
The question is: will the new drive's built-in G-force protection conflict with MacBook's built-in sudden motion sensor? Or will they work in harmony? Or will one of them turn off?
    According to Seagate's manual, http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/notebook/momentus/7200.2 /100451238d.pdf
    2.13.1 Free Fall Protection feature
The Free Fall Protection feature provides enhanced data protection against shock events that may occur while the drive is operating. This feature is designed to decrease the likelihood of data loss by detecting a free fall event and unloading the actuator before a shock takes place in falls of >8 inches (nominal). The drive uses a 0 G sensor mounted on the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) to sense this event.
To enable the Free Fall Protection feature on ST9200420ASG, ST9160823ASG and ST980813ASG models, use Set Features command 41h. To disable this feature, use Set Features command C1h. Information about Free Fall Events that have occurred are available through SMART Attribute FEh.
Note: The Free Fall Protection Feature is provided only on ST9200420ASG, ST9160823ASG and ST980813ASG models
It says I can issue SMART commands to turn the free fall protection on/off, but I am not sure how to do this in OSX.

are there any versions of Adobe Premiere Elements besides PE8 that are compatable with Windows 7 64bit? I have heard of lots of problems with PE8 and I would prefer using PE7 if possible. Actually I use PE3 with XP home 32 bit and love and don't really want to upgrade but it seems like i might have to. thanks

i downloaded the PE8 trial and have worked with it for a couple of hours and had only one glitch so far. while capturing it froze after about 10 minutes, i had to capture the rest and splice it in. i added some titles and a 2nd audio track that was mono and used audio effects to copy left track to right track, i faded in video and audio and so far everything seems to be working fine.
i have an intel MB  D975XBX2
    dual core processor,
    4 gigs of RAM
    win7 pro 64bit
it's taking a little getting used to but probably not as hard as trying to learn a whole other program like sony studio for example. i've got 30 days and i'll keep using it and see how it goes but so far, so good.

  • Macbook Pro Seagate Momentus XT won't boot

    Hello!
I have a macbook pro the one right before they switched to unibody. A couple of days ago when it tried to come out of sleep there was the little spinning wheel for a long time but nothing was happening. I finally shut it down holding the startup button. Right after, the laptop would not boot and it would show a folder...doh! So I read that this is my HD that just died...
Went and bought another HD (SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT 500GB), replaced the hold one, used snow leopard startup CD to format disc and than put back my last time machine image. It ran great! startup was very fast. I used it for 3 days with something like 4-5 reboot due to upgrades and then when I tried to have it come out of sleep...the **** spinning wheel. I waited a while and once again held the startup button to shut it down.
Now, not only does it not boot, but it only shows a grey screen right after the startup noise. The HD seems to be beeping (not the loud beeping that it does when RAM fails (which I got like a year ago)) inconsistantly (3 times, then 2, then 1, 1, 3, 2....) and the folder saying that the HD is dead does not show. I tried to go in disc utility but I can't access the DVD even holding C, CMD or CMD+S. I also opened the case one more time to check that everything is holding up. Seems to be the case...the HD heads seem to be a little crazy though...
Any Idea what is going on? I just hope I did not grilled another HD for nothing.

These HDDs do beep. It has something to do with the interplay between our G-sensor and the Momentus XT HDD parking itself when it spins down. Seagate is unable to address the issue.
