Seamless Transitions in CS5.5?

Hi,
I've looked and seen that there were different answers on this topic from a few years ago but couldn't really tell from the threads how they had been resolved.
I have the Master Collection CS 5.5. I was recently making a DVD for a client and what was wanted was a short animation prior to the menu buttons popping on. First I simply created the entire animation in AE and then I exported the animation in two parts: the first 20 second animation and then the background.
I created a timeline for the first 20 second part and set this to first play. I then placed the remaining 40 second background as the Audio and Video background for the menu.
The problem is that there is a 2 second lag when it jumps from the first play to the menu. I tried just having the entire animation as the background for the menu but the selection boxes around the default button show up right away and this is not wanted.
Am I missing a very simple work-around here?
Thanks for any help and sorry that I couldn't figure it out from the earlier posts.
Best,
Darius

Am I missing a very simple work-around here?
First be sure you are burning a test to check for pauses.
Second, you don't make the intro piece its own timeline:
Here's encore help:

Here's an adobe tutorial on using AE for EN menus:

From the After Effects help:

Here is the tutorial page on Jon Geddes':

Theses are all (probably) CS5, but the principle is the same.  Make a single movie in AE, set a loop point in Encore.

  • Seamless transitioning or ADD transition effects for menus

My last production I tried to make a seamless transition between a menu selection and the feature. Encore seems to always want to dip (or jump) to black after a selection is made. Can a future version (2.0?) add some flexibility to make transitions in and out of menus? Look at any of the Hollywood-style DVDs now; they all have an animation or clip that melds with the menu and again once a choice has been made. Just a suggestion.

So you are saying what they do is possible in Encore? What I don't understand or have trouble agreeing with you both on here is the whole part that leads into and out of the menu. You are telling me that that is just part of the menu being a motion menu, but that the buttons just don't appear until a certain point in the motion menu, then they disappear when a button is selected to continue in the motion menu transition? Make sense? I know there is a VERY slight, but barely noticeable jitter or whatever you wanna call it between each of those points, but it is so slight that it is almost not recognizable.
But what it sounds like you are trying to say that they do to make that work, is that they are not using that intro video as a timeline, but as a motion menu without buttons that is technically just a video and once it is done playing through its loop it forwards itself on to an identical menu that just loops endlessly through the main menu until you select an option, then from there it transitions through yet another menu into whatever the next asset is? Is this right? If so, is that all possible in Encore?
Sorry if I sound ignorant and argumentative, I am not trying to be, this is just something I have been wanting to do but have not figured out how to with my previous attempts, and I thought it might just not be possible with consumer/prosumer level applications as opposed to pro-level DVD authoring that they do in Hollywood. Thank you guys for your help and input.
Edit: DUH! Man I am so stupid, ugh. What I was trying to say above is exactly what they do! You guys are TOTALLY CORRECT! Thank you for helping me with this, now my DVD's of the future will be MUCH BETTER! I don't know why I didn't even think of this before, sheesh. Anyway, I just watched through the Nemo DVD and saw that this is exactly how they do it. Thanks again! I apologize for so ignorantly disagreeing with you oh great ones! HA!

  • Trying to get clean title transitions with CS5

Hi -I have lot's of trouble trying to get a consistent, clean transition in CS5. Mulple systems, multple configs but here is an example of the latest.
    HP Z800
    Quadro FX 5800
    12 GB RAM
    2 x 6core XEON (X5680)
    Atto R380 RAID controller
    CalDigit HDOne Storage
    example:
    1. place title with a transparent drop shadow, fade in, the fade won't be smooth.  it will 'pop' at the end of the transition - the fade is smooth until the very end, and then jumps to opaque (or whatever opacity level is set for title/graphic)
Rendering makes little difference, and in the case of the video behind it can sometimes result in additional blooming, jumping in opacity levels and so on.  For example if I have a cross dissolve from black on video clip, it will preview fine, but after rendering we will get color shifts, or opacity jumps instead of a smooth fade in.
Changing from GPU to software will clear the video previews to resolve the rendered area problems, but then we are just back at unsmooth transitions of titles and so on.
Have changed various rendering settings, codecs etc...
    any help?

  • Disappointed in non-seamless transition

I moved from the UK to the US a year ago leaving a
new core Duo iMac with my folks to help keep in touch.
They connect through BT broadband (wireless hub) but have
    no technical skills beyond firefox.
Because of thermal problems (fans always running at high
speed) we decided to upgrade to Leopard to see if this
fixed things. I had hoped that Leopard would read all the
preferences from 10.4 and prove a seamless transition.
However after the install the system no longer connects
to the BT wireless hub. Because I suspect BT have set the
hub not to broadcast its SSID and have WEP passworded it,
it's almost impossible to talk my folks through the process
of setting up the network. They are completely stuck
at this time as BT say 10.5 is too new and Apple say its
    a BT issue.
All in all not a good upgrade experience.

I have solved this by using a single NetConnection and then
    multiple NetStream Objects.
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns_bumper:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    var ns_buffer:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    var ns_player:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);

  • White balance - how to make a seamless transition?

I recently shot a wedding video and at the end of the night, the bride and groom ran from the reception hall out to the main lobby as the DJ played "Hit the Road, Jack."
My question is this - the reception hall is darkly lit, with tungsten balanced lights and other things coming off of strobes. The lobby is lit by tungsten lights. I can use the razor blade tool to chop the clip and set a new white balance for the lobby area, but there is a color shift that you can see, or at least I can, when the white balance changes between the two areas. Is there a way to make this transition seamless, or is it better just to leave it be as to the way the camera shot and balanced things?

  • Seamless transition to next scene

Hello! I'm fairly new to Flash CS4. I took an introductory course and I'm working on my first project for my organization. It's basically an animated slideshow with music. It would be a lot easier to break it down into scenes that doing it all in one timeline, however, transitioning between scenes seems to fade a little. Is it possible to make the transition between scenes seamless? I am not using actionscript because it is not going to be interactive. I'm putting it on DVDs.
    Thanks!!

  • Seamless transitions between externally loaded movie clips

I'm building a flash player that loads various movie clips in succession  depending on user input. The player should continue to play seamlessly  when one clip ends and another starts playing, however there is always a  slight noticeable delay between the COMPLETE event for one clip and the  actual playing of the next clip. I am using the FLVPlayback component to  load the video clips, with successive clips loaded in different players in the component.
I've tried playing the next video a short duration before the current video finishes by adding a cue point just before the end of the currently running clip (about 200 - 300 ms before the end). This improves matters somewhat, but it is not a reliable method as the timings are different for different browsers and computer specs.
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with smooth  transitions between external video clips and could suggest possible  optimizations I could use to improve the transitions.

    Thank you for replying.
The video clips basically continues the same shot only with different directions, so I can't fade out between transitions. It needs to appear as though it's playing a single video clip in that respect (a one-shot scene).
Another major issue is that there is music playing for each video which should continue playing without interuptions. Even a small gap is noticeable with audio. I thought about separating the audio and video streams but that could mean they could go out of sync as the more transitions occur.

  • Getting Seamless Transitions in PreCut Clips

I use a Canon Vixia HGS100 and am trying to find a way to import my video in one piece.  So far my clips come in at 11 minute sequences...with cuts in awkward places.  Is there a way in Premium Pro CS4 to handle this?  I can't seem to make the clips seamless once placed in the Timeline.  Thanks in advance.

Put all your clips in one sequence (it sounds like you already have), and then edit that sequence into a NEW sequence that matches your original one. This is called "nesting" and the result is that the nested sequence will act as if it's one clip, instead of multiple ones. That's about the only way to get these to act as one; I'm assuming this is an AVCHD camcorder.

  • Seamless transitions from GB- iTunes

I've been trying to export simple audio tracks into iTunes. But when I do, it always adds about 3 seconds of "nothing" at the very end. So when it's in iTunes, there's always an extra 3 seconds at the end that wasn't there before. It's very frustrating when I want the tracks to run seamlessly in iTunes. Weird, I just picked up a new MacBook Pro and I've never had a problem with older versions of GB. Any suggestions?

turn on the Cycle Region button and stretch the yellow bar to exactly encompass what you want exported.

  • Seamless transitions

    Hi guys,
I've recently just created some animations in after effects that i have linked to blank menus to make them video menus. i have also created invisible buttons set to auto activate so that when you move between them it changes to a different video menu. this looks and works great however there is a slight delay between the transitions. Is there any way you can stop this delay between menus? I've read a couple of posts that say there been some kind of button that does it in encore 2, and that the delay happens due to the two assets been in seperate locations on the disc causing the laser to jump between menus, thus causing the delay. can anyone please explain a step by step process to solve this?
any help would be much appriciated, and thanks in advance!!
    Matt

    Matt & Jack,
Where do you see the "slight delay?" Is it in Preview, or on a burned DVD (RW to keep from making coasters)? In Preview, you WILL see a delay and usually a black frame. On a burned DVD, I can see only a hint of a delay, and I'm looking specifically FOR it. A causal user will likely never know that it's there.

  • Migrating settings, actions, plug-ins etc. from CS5 to CS6 (Creative Cloud)

    Hi,
I wondered if someone could help me with the transition from CS5 to CS6 (Creative Cloud). I'm on a Mac with Mountain Lion.
I would like to migrate as many settings (i.e. workspaces where relevant), personal Photoshop actions, plug-ins (i.e. Type DNA, FontShop [Photoshop], Scriptographer [Illustrator] and Blurb Template Creator [InDesign]) as possible from CS5 to CS6. What is the easiest and smoothest way to do this?
Some settings, actions and plug-ins might not work with CS6, I don't know. I can't find where my Photoshop actions are archived atm.
Can I import extensions from Adobe Extension Manager CS5 to Adobe Extension Manager CS6?
Should I uninstall all CS5 apps? I'd like to keep InDesign CS5 for backwards compatibility at least.
Does Audition completely replace Soundbooth? What about Flash Catalyst, Device Central and OnLocation?
Edit: I have already installed all the Creative Cloud applications btw. But I haven't uninstalled any CS5 apps yet.
    Thanks,
    Eivind

    Hi Elvind,
I would suggest keeping both CS5 and CS6 versions on the system until you are fully transitioned, longer if you want. When you launch Photoshop CS6 it will ask you if you want to import settings from the prior version. Third party plug-ins may or may not be compatible between versions so you might need to check with the manufacturer to find out. You would most likely need to reinstall any third party plug-ins that integrate into existing Adobe product installations though.
I found this document for Photoshop CS6
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preset-migration-photoshop-cs6.htm l
For the PS actions, I normally open the actions panel, highlight the actions set (folder) I wanted to migrate, from the flyout menu of the panel choose the option to save the set, this creates the .atm file. There is another option for importing actions in the same menu.
I can't speak to migrating in relation to the other products. I would recommend posting in the respective product forums.

  • CS4 projects in CS5 with Matrox

After one week of testing, I thought I could conclude that CS5 PP & AE were giving me a workable new production system.
I have got 12 Terabyte of CS4 projects I need to use.
Many of these projects now only work for 90%, but I could repair them a bit so CS5 would not crash etc.etc.
PP showed which Matrox plugin used to be at which spot and that it just wasn't working anymore.
Playback was possible and PP reacted on scrubbing and interface changes.
It was obvious the projects were a bit mutulated, but I could see what they used to be.
I also bought and installed Boris Continuum to compensate for the lost Matrox effects.
    But now something terrible happened.
I opened an older PP project I was working on, but now the brand new PC has turned into the familiar nightmare mode again.
PP tells me the Matrox effects are missing. Not so very nice, but as I said, I can fix that somewhat.
However, somehow PP now has become horribly sluggish with CS4 projects.
PP does not react on mouseclicks like it should.
    The output image hardly updates.
I MUST remove the non-working plugin references, in stead of just disabeling them in the effect tab.
I can not see, which plugin was on those exact spots, it just says Unknown so I need my old computer to figure out how to repair things.
The old PC reference is not an option, as my boss wants me to throw it out.
I find myself in deep trouble.
I convinced my boss, not to buy an Avid, as we have 12 Terabyte of very precious CS4 projects.
I told him I could use Boris to emulate the lost Matrox effects.
Now I have this CS5 set, which does not even allow me to reconstruct CS4 projects.
I just don't know where to look for support anymore; Adobe will point to Matrox and Boris, and they will point in the same circular way.
Is there anyone who could say something constructive, in stead of "please report this as a bug"?

I am in the fortunate position of never using the multitude of "special" effects with which the older versions of Matrox cluttered the Premiere installation.  As a result, for me, the transition to CS5 using the Matrox beta drivers for my RTX2 has been no problem.  I simply opened the couple of projects that I wished to work on in CS5 and went ahead.  I deliberaterly waited until my "live" projects were at a minimum level before upgrading.
The new system is so fast and flexible, even with a three year old system and a GTS 250 graphics card, that I do not miss the Matrox acceleration in hardware at all.  The few effects that I did use that are no longer available, e.g. Matrox Move and Scale, are now real-time with the Adobe version on my relatively feeble system.
Clearly, where a project uses Matrox effects which are no longer available, these will have to be removed and replaced, and it is probable that they will slow things down in the meantime.  Once they are removed, there should be no more problem.
This is by no means the first thread I have seen relating this kind of problem.  I wonder how the upgrade to CS5 was carried out?  I always keep an image of the basic Windows set-up, immediately before I install Premiere, and always start from that.  This ensures a clean start with no Matrox of Adobe debris around to cause any problems.  I always install Premiere and the rest of my Adobe software, before the rest of the office software.
If Harm Millaard does pollute this thread with his customary abuse, my advice is to ignore him, and hope he goes away.

  • CS5.5 Blending Modes Won't Work?

Being an avid user of AfterEffects CS4, the transition to CS5.5 was painless.. Except for the fact that the blending modes don't work. This has halted all my projects.
What happens is that when I select a blending mode, nothing happens. It shows that I set the layer to 'add', but absolutely nothing happens. I just got CS5.5 yesterday, so I haven't changed any settings that could mess it up (That I know of).
    Any help would be appreciated!!!

I'm confused. Blending modes require two or more layers. They work to blend one layer with the layer beneath it. But you only have one layer. How are you determining that blending modes aren't working?
See this for basic information about blending modes.

  • A Mercury linear color delimma... bad transitions vs. bad animation

Am I missing something here? I'm writing this as sort of a PSA... if you aren't aware of all sides of this issue, I hope you read the second half because you may not realize it's affecting you, too.
When I enable CUDA or Maximum Render Quality, I basically can't use any one-sided transitions. They look wrong and "pop" at the ends.
Apparently, Adobe forgot to rewrite any of their transitions for a linear color space, so Mercury+CUDA basically "breaks" all the transitions that ship with CS5, causing them to render differently than they do in their originally intended gamma of 1.8. I've heard they've added a linear-compatible transition into CS5.5 called "Film dissolve", but there aren't any in CS5. This seems like a pretty huge oversight... I'm surprised they still haven't fixed it in a patch to the original CS5.
So why not just turn off Maximum Render Quality and CUDA during output?
    Well, there's another big problem.
If you do any kind of stills animation a la "the Ken Burns Effect" in Premiere, you'll quickly find Premiere leaves a "pixel shimmer" or "ripple" effect across the animation because it is using substandard methods to antialias motion. Looks like a cheap NLE from 2002.
So, you're left to choose... do you want bad one-sided dissolves or bad animation? Personally, I believe a good NLE should not leave identifiable footprints in the edit. If you happen to have have *both* in a Premiere CS5 timeline and it goes out on TV, I'll be able to "out" your NLE as Premiere because no matter which output setting you choose, one or the other problem will show up.
SOLUTION 1: Use AE. The simplest solution is probably to avoid Maximum Render quality and avoid keyframing any Motion parameters. Do it all in After Effects.
SOLUTION 2: Use CS4. It may be possible to edit your sequence with all the benefits of MPE and CUDA, and then send your timeline back to Premiere CS4 and have Premiere/Encoder CS4 render it at max quality. I haven't tested this yet, but I'm intrigued by this possibility. I'll try it soon and report back.
Hopefully I am missing something here. I'm an Avid/FCP/AE guy who is still relatively new to Premiere.
P.S. A second issue is lower thirds and alpha graphics. I bet you made all of yours in After Effects with a 1.8 gamma, didn't you? As far as I know, Premiere does not ship with any video effects that easily control the gamma curve of the alpha channel, so there's no quick fix for all of your currently rendered transparent graphics.

I know if I use the MPE in GPU mode transitions between two PIPs will get a funny black border aroud the PIP. CUDA can do some funny things when transitions and filters that do not have CUDA support are used with GPU enabled. I can only hope Adobe is getting ready to switch to Open CL or Open GL because there are a few glitches with Nvidia's CUDA technology. For Quality I almost think CS 4 was better but you don't get the same amount of realtime. I hope PP CS 6.0 is true broadcast quality instead of just realtime previews. Edius can do it with out the use of GPU acceleration.  I think CUDA is a step in the right direction but I also think it needs a bit more time to mature.
