Search according IPTC field "other categories"

Hi,
Is it possible to search in the IPTC field "Other Categories"
or to customize the search engine in this way?
I have some of my picture grouped with specific names in the "Other Categories" field, put the search gives no output, regardless what search
criteria is selected (IPTC, ALL..)
Did I miss something or is it currently not available?

LR doesn't seem to be very consistent in what you can or can't search for using Find. I did some quick tests on some of the fields, and found this:
With "IPTC" selected for the Metadata panel...
Under the Content section, you can search for:
Headline
Caption
IPTC Subject Code
Description Writer
You can't search for:
Category
Other Categories
Under the Status section you can search for all the fields:
Title
Job Identifier
Instructions
Provider
Source
Why can't you search for Categories or Other Categories? Is this a bug, or one of those intended design things? Maybe someone in the know can clarify.
Also, if there's a list somewhere of what can searched, and more importantly what cannot, it would be helpful.

    I recently switched from Blackberry to iPhone 4, and I use my iPhone 4 primarily for business. I have a PC and use Outlook as my contacts application.
    I regularly populate my Outlook contact records with various notes, and I regularly categorize my contacts. With Blackberry I could (and regularly did) search my contacts by fields other than by contact name (e.g. words which I had entered into fields such as Notes, City, State, Company, or Category, and this was very useful. For example, if I created a category called "Accountants" and categorized 3 contacts in that category, I could search my contacts for "Accountants" on my Blackberry and it would show a list of the 3 contacts I have who are Accountants. Or if I wanted a list of all contacts who reside in Chicago so that I can put together a slate of meetings during a visit to Chicago, I could search my contacts for "Chicago" and the search would result in a list of all my contacts with "Chicago" in their record (either in location, category, or notes fields).
    With iPhone 4, so far I've only figured out how to search the name fields of my contact records, but hopefully it is possible to search other fields or the entire contact record. How do I do that?

  • Search the IPTC metadata field "Source" in Lightroom 5?

    How is it possible to search for photos in Lightroom 5, where the IPTC field "Source" is empty? Is it possible to add additional metadata fields to the Library Filters?

    The only way to search the IPTC Source field in LR is to use the "Searchable IPTC" criterion:
    This searches all the "searchable" IPTC fields (Adobe doesn't specific exactly which fields those are, but they do include Source).
    However, you want to find photos whose Source field is empty.  LR doesn't have an "is empty" criterion for most fields, but the normal way you'd work around that, e.g. for Title, is to do:
    Title Doesn't Contain a b c ... x y z 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
    Unfortunately, that workaround won't work in your case, since
    Searchable IPTC Doesn't Contain a b c ... x y z 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
    would only return those photos all of whose IPTC fields are empty.  If there was a photo with a non-empty IPTC Headline and an empty Source, this criterion wouldn't return the photo.
    To search the Source field in particular, you'd need to use a third-party plugin, e.g. ExifMeta, Data Explorer, or Any Filter.

  • Missing IPTC Fields In Aperture 2

    Okay, I am switching from Lightroom to Aperture 2 after using Lightroom for roughly one year. Let me back up... I am trying to switch. Right off the bat, I am running into a problem that really has me perplexed... why on earth did Apple leave out certain IPTC fields, but leave in fields that are completely (at least in my humble opinion) useless to photography. Which fields? These are left out:
    - CCI City *
    - CCI Country *
    - CCI Address *
    - CCI Postal Code *
    - CCI State/Province *
    - CCI Email *
    - CCI Phone *
    - CCI URL *
    - ISO Country Code *
    - Intellectual Genre
    - Location *
    - Rights Usage Terms *
    - IPTC Subject Code
    - IPTC Scene
    Most of these, marked with an asterisk, are crucial to me, and are necessary when sending images to certain clients of mine. In the meantime, Apple, for some bizarre reason, chose to include the following, useless fields:
    - Action Advised
    - Audio Duration
    - Audio Outcue
    - Audio Sampling Rate
    - Audio Sampling Re... (can't read this one because Aperture refuses to show me the whole field name no matter how wide I make the metadata panel)
    - Audio Type
    This makes absolutely no sense to me, and I see no convenient way to get around this. This is compounded by the fact that IPTC seems to be transitioning to Core (XMP) standards, which means the field names are changed. Aperture is on version 2, and yet the IPTC support is this behind the times?
    I hope someone has some good news to help rectify this.

    No, I didn't at first. First off - it does not show up at all in images I imported under 1.x and have not migrated to 2.0 version of RAW processing. Then - I see additional data under EXIF with new imports under Aperture 2.0 and images with updated RAW processors - but still not lens model. However, I then edited EXIF and found lens model. I simply added that field to my EXIF metadata, and now I can see (and search on) lens model for all of my images!
    Thanks for pointing that out - no telling how long it would have been before I found it. Its a shame this isn't a question I posted, or I would give the "solved" points.
    Now, if we can just find your metadata fields...

  • Write/Update IPTC fields with database information.

    Hi all,
    I'm testing lightroom and at this moment I'm happy with its features. I'm a ACDsee Pro user, and I miss one inportant feature in lightroom.
    In ACDSee you can create templates, and then run a batch to write the database information (image rating, keywords, categories, owner, etc) in the IPTC fields of the images.
    This allows you to have your star ratings, per example embedded in the image. Benefits? you can recover your database from the iptc, or you can use the rating done with acd in other apps.
    Is a very powerful feature, because allows you to specify in what iptc field you want any information, and is possible to replace the entire field or jus add some information.
    I wonder if is in lighroom any way to do the same. I would like to write the keywords IPTC field with the lightroom database keywords. Do you know how?
    And what about to write the stars or color code in any IPTC fields?
    If lightroom allows this, must fit all my needs ath this moment.

    I think you are talking about the menu command Metadata >Save Metadata to file - Ctrl S or Cmd S. For documented file formats like JPG, TIF, PSD, DNG, this writes the metadata into the file itself. For undocumented formats, mainly raw files, this creates xmp files.

  • Missing IPTC fields

    Does anybody found the IPTC fields: categories, scenes and subject codes?
    They are quite important for journalism, but aren’t included yet? (like most of the creator infos)
    It would be nice, if I also can make sets/buttons from other IPTC information like from the keywords.
    Any press photographer here, who got the same IPTC problems?

    The ones that are there, you can add to any metadata set you are viewing by opening up the IPTC tab at the bottom of the screen, and pressing the checkmark next to the IPTC field you desire to add to the current metadata view (any metadata element from any category can be added to any view, they are just grouped as they are to start for convienience).
    Any that are not there - why not add them? For "Scene", open the "Other" tab at the bottom, then type "Scene" into the "New Custom Metadata" at the top of the field list, then enter some value for that field and press return. Now it will appear in the list with a checkbox, which you can add to the current view - and it should export with the image when you ask Aperture to export metadata.
    With all due respect, it absolutely amazes me that so many people don't understand how IPTC works. You can't just "map" fields any way you want, and if you want to follow the schema properly, you can't just put whatever data you want to in each of these fields. The ability to add custom metadata fields in Aperture is pointless, as they don't actually have any IPTC relevance.
    Therefore, adding fields to compensate for the lacking IPTC support doesn't work as these custom fields don't map to existing IPTC fields when the image is exported, so the data is lost. Pointless waste of time.
    Check out http://www.iptc.org for all the details. You should quickly realize after just a little reading that Aperture, even version 2, is lacking proper IPTC support. Frustrating, as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, iView MediaPro, Microsoft Expression Media, and so many others properly support IPTC.
    However, to be fair, you are correct that Category is there. Subject Reference in Aperture is Subject Code in IPTC, however, in testing I have found that Aperture has serious export issues with metadata, and this is one of the fields that does not export at all. The four fields that do not export are:
    Object Attribute Reference -> IPTC Field: Intellectual Genre
    Sub-Location -> IPTC Field: Location
    Country Code -> IPTC Field: Country Code
    Subject Reference -> IPTC Field: Subject Code
    There is no Scene support in Aperture 2 (this is one of many missing fields in Aperture 2).
    I have a compiled list of IPTC fields, the properly mapped fields in Aperture 2, and the missing/broken fields in Aperture 2 if anyone wants it.

  • Customised metadata - search for multiple fields?

    Background: I'm logging a STACK of footage and attempting to arrange it all by a series of different keyword categories (the day the footage was shot, location, camera type, content type, key players, etc). Each category has multiple variables (ie: in the camera category the options are Sony FS700, Canon 5D, Canon 600D, GoPro). I'm adding custom fields via the PPr Project Metadata>Add Property function using a simple Boolean tickbox.
    Question: Is there a way to sort and search the custom fields? For example if I wanted to pull up all the footage shot on day 5, with the Sony, that comprises of interview content with a particular person is there a way to search for all these fields? I've been able to search for one keyword if I tag the material but so far searching and organising by multiple fields has eluded me.
    The long way round is to create multiple bins and/or sequences for each variable in each category by hand, but that's a little tedious and has the potential to bloat the project. Any ideas to solve the problem? I've come from FCP a few months ago so the metadata side of PPro is still something I'm getting my head around. Thanks for reading!
    EDIT: I'm running PPro CC for reference and can install and use Prelude if it helped.

    For the time being I'm using a workaround employing titles above the footage to signify the relevant categories, and tagging significant moments in clips with markers, but it is perplexing.. Premiere seems to employ metadata in a phenomenal way - such that I haven't come across in any other mainstream editor - I just wish it had the functionality to sort and manage all that metadata it is producing beyond the search bar in the Project window.
    Premiere gurus and Adobe affiniados: am I missing something obvious?

  • Search on attributes stored in categories

    Using the 9iFS Java/JSP API how is it possible to specify searches on attributes stored in categories (like the "ImageWidth" attribute in the INTERMEDIAIMAGE category).
    I'm currently doing it manually by comparing the attribute values for each document, but it doesn't appear to be efficient.

  • How can I reliably search the "Notes" field in iOS?

    I know this isn't strictly an Applescript question, but I've found that the level of knowledge in this particular section of the boards is WAAAAAYYY higher than other sections, so I'm gonna ask this here anyway. FWIW, it does involve AppleScript....
    So I really miss the Palm style contact search by first initial and last name. So I wrote an applescript that runs nightly on my iMac and updates any new contacts to include this search term in the notes field. Actually, to be completely honest, some members of this forum wrote most of the script for me.... Anyway, for instance, Joe Smith has "JSmith" placed into the notes field.
    Now, usually when I search my contacts like this on my iphone it works like a dream. But sometimes the expected contact does not appear. In those cases, if I open the contact a different way (by searching for "Joe Smith," for instance, I find the contact, open it up, and always find that "JSmith" is actually in the notes field. My Applescript is working like clockwork... that's not the problem. Once I close the Joe Smith contact and retry the "JSmith" search, it now works. What gives?
    It's kinda like Spotlight is using a search index for the notes field but not the name itself? And the search index is not getting updated until I manually open the contact? But only on some contacte? Usually it updates itself just fine without my having to open the contact? And then today it failed to find a contact that has had the Palm-seach term in the notes field for at least three weeks. Once I opened it manually, though, it worked.
    So... help! Is there a way to force the iphone to manually rebuild whatever database spotlight is using to search the notes field? What's going on?

    I've turned on BOLD TEXT and turned on REDUCE MOTION but for me it feels like more than just the zooms in and out... I'm getting sick just reading emails and texts or just glancing at the lock screen. It's intant nausea. The only thing I can think of is that it's something to do with refresh rate or frequency of the screen.
    I thought I'd just get used to it but it has not subsided. I only hope I don't have to resort to backgrading to iOS 6 or worse, moving to a different brand of phone.

       Then i have to write a report for sales order & delivery order.in these reports i have to refer seagate PO number & seagate SO number for reference.
    i got PO number as vbkd-bstkd but not getting any field for reference Sales order.plz advice me on this. it is very very urgent.

    Do you want to see which database fields you have inserted in Crystal Reports and in which section you have inserted what fields?
    If yes then
    -open formula editor
    -In the right side pane expand Formatting Formulas.
    -Expand all the sections one by one and it will show you database fields,formulas and all the objects used in the sections.

I have noticed that ever since I have started to use Lightroom it gave me an added value of populating IPTC fields in Gallery 2 (web gallery I use). The IPTC seems to be very broad and I would like to understand how to use properly most if not all the fields within Lightroom.
    My question/request for Lightroom developers: can we get some build in selectors for many of standard IPTC fields with descriptions, please? This way I would not have to spend hours each time I get a new "genre code" etc.
    Here is a neutral and work safe example of what details show up for me: abstract photograph or an air vent
    Is anyone else in the community use those codes beyond Caption, Keywords and Copyright, and if so what gally applicatation are you using?

    Does you friend use any accented letters in the descriptions?  That might cause it but I don't know for sure.
    Has he run any repair operations on his library, i.e. repairing the database file? Another possible fixe that's easy to apply is the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
        Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
    Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
    and, if there is one, the
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    The demo version of GraphicConverter can be used to view/check/edit the ITPC fields in an image file after exporting.
