SEARCH APPS BY CORRECT OS

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEARCH FOR EXAMPLE A IPHOTO APP AND HAVE THE APP THAT IS DISPLAYED BE THE ONE COMPATIBLE WITH THE OS ON MY COMPUTER OR HAVE A " SMART FUNCTION BUTTON " WHERE IS SCANS YOUR COMPUTER AND SHOWS YOU KNOW INCOMPATIBILITIES AND MAKES SUGGESTIONSFOR COMPATIBLE SUBSTITUTES ACORDINGLY.

No, you cannot search for apps that way.
Apps on the MAS are mostly compatible with Lion and Mountain Lion.
Typing in all caps here is considered yelling.

When I open the kindle app on iPad 2 I have to search for the correct page. Does anyone else have this problem?

Well, I did a search on apple.com and found this:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-news/2010/04/the-hidden-itunes-visualizer-con trols.html
"The Visualizer -- graphics that swoop and pulse with the music -- has been part of iTunes' DNA from the beginning. And because its creators wanted to interact with the graphics in real time as well as watch them, Visualizer includes some single keystroke commands that change what you see while it runs. But these commands are hidden by default lest they obstruct the graphics.
Use the Show/Hide Visualizer command in the View menu to turn Visualizer on and off, and use the Visualizer menu to select among the choices. If the choice you're using has hidden commands you can see them for a brief time by typing ? while a song is playing and Visualizer is visible. The keystrokes will work regardless of whether the help menu is showing, so if you memorize them it's possible to add Virtuoso Visualizer Player to your list of accomplishments. (For the Visualizer choice called Jelly, available only in iTunes for Mac, try holding the keys down, especially the number keys, for maximum effect.")
    Not that you care. >.<

  • Looking for a "desktop search" app

I am using kde, and I am searching for a desktop search app that uses a database and searches within common filetypes.  I've tried a couple so far, and haven't found what I'm looking for:
kerry/beagle:WAAAY too much bloat; creates ~2gigs of logs per day, once crashed and started loading my filesystem with useless data.
strigi/clucene: tried it, didn't really work, settings kept on resetting to default.
I am looking for something that doesn't have heavy gnome dependencies.
Any suggestions / what are you using?

    Next one...
    RECOLL
Depends only on Qt and xapian-core (from community).
All its dependencies are in official repos except for libtextcat and xapian-core (both in community, however).
Src download is 850Kb, and since the package in [community] is outdated, I built one of my own:
    Targets: recoll-1.90-1
    Total Package Size:   0.9 MB
    Total Installed Size:   2.6 MB
    Backend:
It also uses the xapian backend.
It can run as a daemon that uses FAM or inotify to provide continuous monitoring/indexing, but the docu says it's probably better to run a cronjob.
While Pinot was using an xml config file, Recoll has a very detailed set of plaintext config files and it can maintain several indexes in parallel (e.g. one with monitoring and one with cronjob indexing).
plaintext, html and email are handled internally, and for other file types you have to resort to external utilities again, of which unrtf is in community, pstotext is only in AUR and I didn't find id3lib/id3info at all.
Again, extension is possible. Here you have several steps which take resources and are slightly more complex to set up than in pinot, but probably allow more fine-grained tweaking: you have a mimeconf configuration where you associate mimetype and filter ('application/pdf = exec rclpdf'), you have an assortment of filters ready in /usr/share/recoll/filters, you have a mimemap config file where you can associate filenames/endings and mimetypes (Unfortunately it uses a different format from e.g. mutt's mime.types, but it also includes special, recoll-only settings - like exclude certain files from indexing or associate files with a certain name with a different mimetype when they're in another direcory)
    Search:
Recoll has its own (qt, non-kde) GUI and is only adressable therewith, thus not integrated with any of the other frontends. (Export for pinot, which should be able to access recoll's xapiandb...)
You can use proximity and phonetic search, stem expansion and glob/regex expressions. And you can specify search criteria by metainfo (author, subject, keywords). AFAICT, Recoll does not (yet) understand queries that conform to Xesam specs, neither RDF.
Recoll remembers the last few searches that you performed. You can use a combobox to recall them. However, only the search texts are remembered, not the mode (all/any/file name). (Also documents actually pre-/viewed are remembered.)
Typing Esc Space while entering a word in the simple search entry will open a window with possible completions for the word. The completions are extracted from the database.
Double-clicking on a word in the result list or a preview window will insert it into the simple search entry field.
Search results formatting can be formatted freely with a qt-html expression per default they display several occurancies of the search term along with their respective, (very) limited context. They can be opened either with a mimeview configuration similar to the mimemap file from above or with xdg-open. Or you can view them in an external preview window (which has an incr. search feature). (You have icons for file types but no thumbnails.)
    Experiences:
System seemed to me to not be so very sluggish when it did the indexing.
The same directory with ~3100 files, mostly pdf, a few doc and html files, weighing in at 1.5Gb. was indexed in
    real    15m13.378s
    user    8m47.466s
    sys     3m33.439s
and additional stem databases for german and french took another 50 secs.
    du -h:
    14M     ./xapiandb/stem_english
    15M     ./xapiandb/stem_de
    13M     ./xapiandb/stem_fr
    236M    ./xapiandb
    246M    .
Recoll UI started up quickly and results were returned almost instantaneously. (Not a complicated search expression, tho) I have not yet tested for complicated expressions or a test search for a term that occurs only rarely, so I cannot tell if the small db size has its drawbacks.
So these are still open questions:
    [*] monitoring-mode performance impact?
[*] search expression options: RDF ?
    [*] search results: how accurately?
[*] attitude towards Xesam and offering services to other frontends?
What I find interesting is its configurability, and the small db size (well, as of now I have only pinot to compare it with, so maybe it's not so extraordinary after all).
    (Next will be Tracker...)

Download them again in the App Store purchased tab. As long as you use the same ID that you bought the apps with, you do not have to pay for them again.
This will recover your apps, but all of your data will be gone.

  • When is the new Google Search app gonna be available?

    Hi All,
When is the new Google Search app gonna be available?
Why Apple is taking so long to approve it?
    Any idea?

Tks Bmg but according to the below URL, Google submitted the new APP on August....
    http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/another-way-apples-fight-with-google-is-hur ting-users.php
That's why I started this discussion to find out why this app didn't reach the appstore yet. I know it does a lot of waht Siri does but it's not fully integrated to iOS/hardware like Siri so, that's why I don't understand why Apple is taking so long to approve it nor to disclose why they are not approving.
I didn't find any info about google app not being within the guidelines of Apples terms and conditions too...
and in regards to the maps, that's a good point but it could use maps.google.com like it currently does so I don't think it should be a big deal right?
    Thanks again.

  • How can I get rid of the "Reset Search" app?

I have a Macbook Pro and I run Mavericks OS X 10.9.5. There's an application in Launchpad called "Reset Search".See picture 1. I know this is part of the "Install Mac" adware, but I still can't find a way to get rid of it. I downloaded Adware Medic to try and remove the adware but it said that it couldn't find anything. I also tried a manual removal following the steps from http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/, where it says to remove the file "/private/etc/launchd.conf" but I can't find that file anywhere. I'm scared to continue because it says, "Failure to properly remove this file, if it is present, will result in your computer freezing and becoming unable to start up!" Also way before I knew this was adware I reset the browser settings a few times using the pop up. See Picture 2.

    Problem description:
Accidentally downloaded the adware “Install Mac” and can’t get rid of it because I can’t find any traces of it, except for the “Reset Search” app on Launchpad.

  • How do i delete google search app?

ipad with os7.1 has a google search app that I'd like to delete because it circumvents Qustodio parental controls.
When i do shake of apps, most of them, including google, don't have an x to delete them. Any ideas?

Thanks Meg. I installed the Qustodio parental control app and browser first, and followed instructions to turn Deleting Apps restriction on. As you advised, this stopped me from deleting the Google Search app.
I wonder if child can just reinstall Google to circumvent Qustodio. I don't want to restrict installing apps completely on ipad, but instead have 12+ restriction checked, which is more reasonable for my user.
I'll have to test it in this continuing quest for safety. Any insight appreciated!

  • Googe Search App window in Safari on ipad

Using Safari on iOS7 I am getting a sort of banner/popup (screen width, grey) at the top of the window (below the bookmark bar) every time I go to the Google homepage. It is offering me the Google Search App from the App Store.
How do I get rid of this? I HAVE the app! I just don't want to use it this time, as I am in Safari already doing other things on other tabs!
    Cheers!

This was annoying me too, and think I figured it out.  It's the bookmark, or web link that pre-populates when you type the google address.
Make sure the address is exactly www.google.com, if bookmarked or typed.  The web address that my iPad kept pre-populating was the google address with extra characters at the end.  I believe this is what was causing the popup to appear each time.  Since I removed the extra characters, and edited my google bookmark it has not reappeared.

  • New voice search starts Google voice dialer instead of voice search app (fw 5.0.0.66)

Hello. I use Nexus 4 with Lollipop 5.1After upgrade I found that Sony released a new cool feature "Voice search" which should "forward search commands to phone's defaults voice search app".in facts when I hoold 2 sec on Volume Up button I see native ugly "Google voice dialer" instead of "Google voice commands".Is it behaviour by default? How can I use Google voice commands (aka Google Now) instead of voice dialer? Thanks.

Hi! You can actually use a free APP name " BT GNow". Set it as default APP as the Samrtband talk search function. Then you can use Google Now. Millet

I'm trying to find an app to help my 4 yr old learn the alphabet in french but can only find apps in English...

You can search for books in a specific language in the iBooks Store on a Mac. You might like to leave feedback for the iOS app:
    https://www.apple.com/feedback/
You can also do a search for the language you are searching for ie search for "French".

  • I can't get the Google Search App to work.

My Google Search App was working fine on my iPad mini. Then I installed Chrome and didn't synch it right off the bat. Chrome works fine but now Google Search App won't let me log in or work. I've tried deleting it/reinstalling it and rebooting my iPad mini. What else should I try?

Shut down and restart the app...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
    - Press the red (-) to delete the offending app from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    - Restart the app

Is there a way to get a search protocol of the "Find my iPhone" search app and icloud ? And where can i find a protocol of the chat with a apple support worker

Thanks for the reply however this does not help.  When I check the cloud it shows that I have only 20 photos.  In reality I had a lot more than that.  All the photos on the cloud are those that I have taken since I was at the Apple store.  When I check cloud storage usage on my phone it says that I have 5.1 GB of photos.  This is a lot more than the 20 that I can see.  I am not sure what the Apple employee did to my phone.
Still looking for answers.  It is really too bad that I can not talk to an Apple person to get help since they messed up my phone.

  • GUI search apps without using a database

What do people use in the way of GUI based search apps (without a DB backend) to search their disks?  Or are there none, and you just run Agent Ransack under wine (which works well BTW)?
Searchmonkey used to be an (excellent) Agent Ransack clone but has recently been rewritten and is  considerably less powerful than it used to be.  I'd like something with the power of AR but linux based.

I know they're not GUI, but you can build your own app if you have too, based on find & grep.
    Or use something like http://linuxappfinder.com/package/catfish
    [karol@black ~]$ locate -S
    Database /var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db:
    14346 directories
    133301 files

    [karol@black ~]$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    udev 10M 144K 9,9M 2% /dev

    /dev/sda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot
    /dev/sda4 30G 17G 12G 59% /home
If I'm reading that right, my database is 3.2MB and indexes about 20 GB of data (filenames only). If you have many small files, YMMV,
Edit: I think the CLI excels with repeatable, scriptable tasks. Muscle memory works with the kbd too, aliases and functions can abbreviate a long line to a couple keystrokes.

  • Google Search App Disappearing

    Hello,
Recently, the google search app has disappeared from my Ipad Air. The app was randomly deleted, and there is not an option to redownload or open the app in the app store. I did not update the IOS or the app, and I did not manually uninstall the app.
Anyone have a solution to this?

    Hello there, jweldy.
First thing I would recommend is search your iPad for the application, as it may have been moved to a folder or another page:
iOS 7 - Learn more about iOS 7 and iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=tidetail&product=iphone&locale=en_US&tag= iOS%207#TI169
If you confirm that the file isn't on your device, then you should be able to download the application again using the following Knowledge Base article:
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
    Apps
    Tap App Store.
If you're using an iPhone or iPod touch, tap Updates, then tap Purchased.
If you're using an iPad, tap Purchased.
Find the item that you want to download.
Tap the Download icon. After the app downloads, you can open it from the Home screen.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
