Search bar stopped working

since the last FF update (35), the search bar stopped working.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode.
You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
You can find the full version of the current Firefox 36.0.4 release in all languages and for all operating systems here:
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • My scrolling bar stopped working when I updated to firefox 3.6.9 and adobe flash 10.1

Never had a problem before, but when I just updated to Firefox 3.6.9 my scrolling bar stopped working. It still works in vistas explorer and wordperfect, just not firefox.
At the same time I updated to adobe flash 10.1 (I think). Whatever the latest version is.
    thnaks

I have the same problem. I have never had a problem with Firefox before, and use it as my main browser. However recently, after updating to 3.6.8, its been crashing all the time. Up to 20 times an hour. Usually it occurs when I click a link from a Google search, or in Yahoo. Even if I send in a crash report and restart Firefox, it crashes as soon as the same page is brought back up, or the same link is clicked. I have also had it crash when completely idle. Its very frustrating as it is my favorite browser. I've resorted to using Google Chrome for the time being.

  • The App Store search has stopped working since I updated to 8.2 on iPad

    Hi
since I updated my software to 8.2 on my iPad the App Store search has stopped working but other features work on the App Store only the search option is not responding and says " the App Store is temporary unavailable please try again later "
I have turned my iPad off and on couple of times but with the same result each time.
the 8.2 update is for the new Apple watch and health app.
    can any one help?

Based on the numerous posts regarding iTunes and the App Store, there appears to be an issue at Apple's end. Although Apple has not provided any indication on the cloud status page.
    Do not change your settings.

  • Welcome page navigation bar stopped working

I just made a few changes to my welcome page.  Not sure what happened but the navigation bar at the top no longer works.  It works on the other pages.  At one point I retitled the page to "home" and it seems like that may have screwed things up.  Now I can't figure out how to get it to work. Any ideas?  It is iWeb 3.0.4

figured out the problem.  I made some links on the welcome page to the same pages as the nav bar and made the bar stop working for some reason.

  • FireFox 13 Search Bar not working with TB display

I have a strange problem.  I have a new 13" MB Air (mid 2012 model) and I have it attached to a Thunderbolt display.  I use FireFox 13 for browsing.  When my MB Air is solo (i.e., not hooked up to my TB display), the search bar in the top right of the FireFox screen works normally.  When I have the TB display hooked up (both in clamshell and extended desktop mode), the search bar doesn't work (keep getting an error that the connection was reset).  I am having the same problem with the address bar search function as well.
I have tried deleting the appropriate files in the FireFox Profiles folder (formhistory.sqlite, search.json, search.sqlite...all after quitting FireFox), but to no avail.  Sometimes after doing this the search bar will work once, but then on a subsequent search I get the same connection reset error.
    Thoughts?

You will need to subscribe to get the required code and request the search engine to spider (index) your site pages.  This can take several hours the first time you do it.  Then you will need to paste their code into your web pages to make the search functional.

  • Keyboard shortcuts to switch between search engines stopped working

The latest version of Firefox looks great but unfortunately the keyboard shortcuts that I use all the time to switch between search engines stopped working which leaves me stuck with version 33.1.
I'm talking about the shortcuts Ctrl + ↑ and Ctrl + ↓ described in this page:

    Please solve this! Thanks.

    This worked perfectly, many thanks!!!

  • After updating to FireFox 16.0.1 in Windows, the address bar stopped working, as well as the search bar, though not immediately. Reinstall didn't fix it.

Initially I downloaded an AOL-optimized version, but when the problems came up I reinstalled the regular version and it was fine. Two days ago it randomly started again. Address bar won't go anywhere with enter or pressing the arrow button, and the search bar has no search engine. Trying add a search engine by clicking "manage search engines" doesn't help; the "add search enginges" button is unresponsive and there are none in the list to choose from. I uninstalled everything including my customizations and personal settings and reinstalled, which still didn't help. I tried disabling all the plugins and that didn't work either. I even tried searching from the FireFox home page search, since at that point it was the only page I could get to, and even that wouldn't search. The most recent add-on I downloaded was the Evernote Web Clipper I think, but it didn't seem to coincide with the start of the problems.
Update: I ran a malware program (MalWareBytes) and it came up with nothing. I also got back into FireFox to get the Troubleshooting Information and added it in. In addition, here's my complete plugin/extension list:
    Plugins:
Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.2.1.530
    Google Earth Plugin 6.2.0.5788

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
If that works post back for further advice.
Next step, if safe mode did not work.
<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.
    See
    * this recent post [/questions/940399#answer-377134]
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
    <u>Second: try a New Profile</u>
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    * this will be an additional profile, it is still worth backing up any existing or currently working profile on a regular basis
**[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * Until you are absolutely confident about the repercussions I suggest
** always use an empty folder when creating a new profile
** never delete or rename profiles, just disable or remove shortcuts
** after creating a new test profile open it and check for any addons or plugins that may be have been included by default

  • Search button stopped working, but location\search bar is ok. Firefox 20 on Win XP.

After entering a search field, hitting the search button yields no activity. I recently upgraded to Ver 20 on Win XP Ver 5.1.
I also tried suggested solutions of resetting the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone and deleting a chromeapps file to no avail

Which search are you referring to?
*searching via the location bar (pref: keyword.URL)
*search bar on the Navigation Toolbar
*search bar on the about:home page (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename)
*other search bar (e.g. added by extension
Is that the search bar on the about:home page?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • Why is my search bar not working?

I'm running Firefox 8.0 on Windows 7. Recently, my search bar (the one with Google, YouTube, Amazon, etc.) has stopped working: if I enter a search string, it does not load a results page, it just spins and says "Connecting..." forever - this happens for all search engines, not just one. However, if I hit enter in the bar with no search string entered, it does take me to the home page of the site as normal. Any suggestions?

Everytime i click safari, it shows ( Do you want to change your search engine to yahoo?) I did click cancel or ok but nothing happened. Just block

  • Search option stopped working - spotlight as well

I use the search option of Mail on a daily basis to find old emails or topics. I have also used Spotlight to search old emails. Recently my Mail program stopped searching old emails and only finds recent emails with keywords that I know used to find many more emails. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe it is Mac OS X 10.4.10?? It was right around then that it stopped working. Any plans to fix this??

Okay, this seemed to work for me. We have Tom Harrington through te newsgroup, comp.sys.mac.system to thank.
    1. Go to "System preferences" (under the apple icon menu)
    2. Select "Spotlight"
    3. Choose the "Privacy" folder
    4. Click the Add and then add your Hard drive
    5. Close System preferences.
    6. re-open "system preferences" get back the same way to where you added your Hard Drive under privacy.
    7. Remove your Hard Drive.
    8. Close system preferences.
Now if you go to use Spotlight (not in email but for your compuetr generally - Control and Space Bar) , you'll see that the the system is rebuilding and it will take some number of hours to do so. When finished, at least on my MacBook Pro, the search in Mail was functioning fine again.
Pain in the butt, not very intuitive but it seems to work.

  • NB100 touchpad scroll bar stops working after exit full screen mode youtube

I have few Toshiba laptops, satellite, and now netbook100.
All of them share one problem, touchpad scroll bar:
It will stop working after exit full screen mode in youtube.
Here is how to reproduce the incident:
    1. using any mainstream browser, start playing a youtube video, click full screen button at the bottom right corner of the video.
    2. click on the [cross] to exit the full screen mode. (next to full screen button.)
    3. check if you scroll bar still functioning.
    4. a reboot will restore the function.
Currently, Im on vista, I believe in XP you will have the same problem.
Searching in google (touchpad scroll bar stops full screen youtube) will return more people share the same question but no answer.
Environments: win xp all, win vista all.
Windows all most updated driver, touch pad driver up to date.
This is not a major tech problem but for a netbook, this is very annoying.
If anyone have this problem or answers, please share it here.
    Thank you in advance.
    regards.

I had the exact same problem on my laptop and after a lot of searching, I finally found the simplest solution that really works for me so here goes:
Once you exit the full screen video and the scroll pad has stopped working, click once anywhere on the youtube page(just to unfocus from the video) and press the spacebar button on your keyboard twice.
Et voila, your scroll pad should be working again. Beats the hassle of having to log off everytime.
    Hope this helps
