Search box, adv.search box in a landing page

hi,
as per my reqmnt, i need to have 3 web applns,
1)one is a DMS solution
2) extranet - for my customers partner's web appln
3) community web appln
i am confused abt the landing page, how to design the search func. if i give a search box on the master page , which content need to pulled out.
also if i am going with this search box, i have to implement advanced search box also. but i am not able to find a particular zone on this landing page.
can i remove this search box altogether since i need to have a  separate ent.search center site collec in the DMS,community web appln., why should i put a  search box on this landing page.
[ i  can decide this - as client didnt say anything specific abt this reqmnt].
can anyone give me an idea, abt the sample landing page contents of a portal which has multiple web applns.
and how it looks like :i any test sample site / web aplns are available ?
any public facing sites samples are also welcome, which is built on sp 2013 or prev.version.
highly appreciate the help!

field zflag is added to that serach help and it is working fine.
But user wants show this field as check box in search help.
Could you pls help me how to place check box in place of text field.
Thanks in advance

Anyone has any idea about this?
As soon as I press F4 on document no field, It will display one pop-up window with search help restrictions.
In the search help restrictions ... I have added one flag field . But we nedd that text field as check box.
How can we acheive this?
Thanks.

• Everytime I try to enter something into the search box a further box appears to tell me this is a json file and what program should I use to open it. How can I

I am using Linux mint 12 with firefox.
Everytime I try to type something in the search box a further box appears to tell me this is a JSON file and what program should I use to open it.
This has only happened since reinstalling my system a couple of weeks ago.
I am not really interested in what a json file is I simply want to get rid of this pop up box.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

RE: Firefox search box -> manage search engines -> get more search engines..
IT DOESN'T WORK
I just want to add youtube + some others to the list of sites in the Firefox search box, I now get 1000's of useless irrelevant results, PLEASE FIX THE SITES SEARCH NOW, IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS NOW

Hi Kvoter,
What are you hoping for, firefox to display lists of sites you have visited or bookmarked ?
* it should be able to do that
* my firefox does that
I am only a fellow ordinary user of Firefox & XP, but maybe the problem is on your machine, rather than needing a fix from firefox. If you take a little time to read this you may be able to sort out the problems yourself.
I hope you do not mind me covering a few basics:
* the Search bar { <-- clickable link -- ] is designed to produce a lot or results, whereas
*the Location Bar is a lot more specific and may be set to include or exclude History & or bookmarks
If you are getting literally 1000s of totally unrelated results you may need to consider Is my Firefox problem a result of malware
Hope to hear that you have solved the problem, or a bit more detail about what still is a problem.
John

• When I type word to search in the Find box, Firefox will jump to the first grouping of letters it recognizes. I have to click back in the find box to continue typing my word. How can I make this stop?

I wanted to search for the word "medieval" on a web page. I started typing the word in the Find box. After I had typed "med", Firefox put the cursor on the word "medicate" in the web page. I have to click back in the Find box to continue typing my word. This is extremely annoying because sometimes I have to click back in the Find box after every letter.

Thanks for responding Chris.
I hadn't restarted after disabling SearchMenu. Having restarted, it would appear that the problem was, in fact, SearchMenu. Which was my suspicion. Once Find highlights a "word" SearchMenu interrupts to offer its services. I guess I'll post on their board, to see if there's a solution.
I should have restarted before posting. My apologies. Rookie move.
Thanks again, Chris.

• How to add a dropdown menu to the search box (the 'search this site' box that appears on all subsites)

Hello there,
I know that in the search center you can add search verticals. Then you can configure the search box so it has a drop down menu so you can specify the result source you want to search.
But my question is about the 'search this site' box which appears on all subsites, so not the one in the search center. Is it possible to add the same dropdown menu to this box as in the search center?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add a dropdown menu to the search box.
You need to look at the Search Settings page that is located under the Site Collection Administration of the Site Settings.

My Firefox start page had a check box for searching Canadian pages which was lost when I upgraded to 4.0. How can I get this back?

The default about:home page in Firefox 4 doesn't give such features. You can set the home page to http://www.google.ca to get that possibility. The results page has a "Pages from Canada" link in the side menu at the left.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• What are the possibilities and limitation of using Out of the box content search webpart on SharePoint Online 2013/O365 ?

Hi All,
We are migrating from on-premise SharPoint 2010 to SharePoint online 2013.
I have few questions below:
What are the possibilities and limitations of using Out of the box content search webpart?
Also, how the cross site publishing will work in SharePoint online something with managed navigations and product catalog apporach? if it is not supported, then what are the alternatives to acheive the same?
Appriciate any commnets/clarifications.Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Compare the strengths and limitations of the Web Parts
It’s important that you understand the strengths and limitations of the two Web Parts because if you choose the wrong one, your site could run into performance problems. You can use both Web Parts to show content that is based on a query. In a simplified
world, here’s how you can decide between the two:
Use the CQWP when you have a limited amount of content, your query is simple, and you don’t expect your content to grow much in the future.
Use the CSWP in all other scenarios when you want to show content that is based on a query.

I'm trying to modify the appearance of the search box, the search button, and the submit button for web forms by modifying the CSS on Stylesheets. None of the tags I'm using (e.g. .webform .cat_button) seem to be working. What are the correct tags for those three elements?

• In Pages document, how do I search for word and view its frequency and page numbers in a sidebar?

I have a long document and I want to be able to search for certain key words and phrases, and then see how many times they appear in the document and exactly where.  How do I conduct this sort of search and viewing?  In the past, in Pages and Word, I've been able to view my "finds" in a sidebar but I can't figure out how to activate that service anymore.
Thanks!

Here is a word frequency concordance Automator Service that works in both versions of Pages. It does not present a page number reference. It is by descending count, and alphabetically, within the repetitive counts as shown in the image here. In any document, you select the text to process, then Menu > Application Name > Services > Frequency. The Service will open TextEdit with the n-pages of scrollable results. It is 16 pt Helvetica Neue for legibility.
Here is the code:
on run {input, parameters}
         try
              set mySelection to input as text
              set formatted_result to concordance(mySelection)
              if formatted_result is not null then
                   set textHeading to "Word Frequency List"
                   tell application "TextEdit"
                   activate
                         set NewDoc to make new document with properties {name:"Concordance"}
                         make new paragraph at beginning of text of NewDoc with data textHeading & return
                         make new paragraph at end of text of NewDoc with data formatted_result
                         tell text of NewDoc
                               set font to "Helvetica Neue"
                               set size to 16
                               set color of paragraph 1 to {0, 0, 65535}
                         end tell
                        end tell
              else
                        display dialog with title ¬
                         "No input selected" with icon stop ¬
                          giving up after 15
              end if
         on error errmsg number errnum
                    display alert ¬
                               "AppleScript Error" message errmsg & "[" & errnum & "]" as critical ¬
                                  giving up after 30
         end try
         return input
end run
on concordance(mySelection)
-- Use Ruby to count word frequency and alphabetically sort words
        set rb to ¬
        "selected = String.new\nfreqs = Hash.new(0)\nselected = ARGV.join('  ').gsub(/[,.]/, \"\")\n
         words = selected.split(/[^\\w-]+/)\nwords.each { |word| freqs[word] += 1 }\n
         freqs_sorted = freqs.sort do |a,b|\n\t
         a.last == b.last ? a.first <=> b.first : b.last <=> a.last\nend\n
         freqs_sorted.each { |k,v| printf \"[ %8s ]          %s\", v, k }"
        do shell script "/usr/bin/ruby -e " & rb's quoted form & space & mySelection's quoted form
end concordance
Launch /Applications/Automator and choose New Document, then click the Service icon, and then select the Choose button.
On the left, you will have a list of Libraries from which to choose workflow items. Find Library > Utilities. In the adjacent column, locate the Run Applescript workflow. Click on it, then drag and drop it in the large workflow window to your right.
At the top, you can select Service receives text in any application. Leave Output replaces selected text unchecked.
In your Run AppleScript workflow window, you will see AppleScript boilerplate. Click on it and press command+A, then backspace to delete this content. Copy and paste the above code into this Run AppleScript workflow window. Press the Run button in Automator's upper right corner. If (and it should) a TextEdit window pops up, you are good, and you want to press File > Save. A dialog box will pop-up where you can name your Service. I called my Frequency, you may wish to call it something else. Once you have save it, you can exit Automator. Services are deposited in yourlogin directory/Library/Services.
If you have a Pages document open with text, either select it, or command+a to select the entire document. Now, you select your Service via Pages > Services > Frequency. This will now pop-up a new TextEdit document with the results. If you want to save this new document, you must use option+File to Save as...

• How do I get my google search bar back in the middle of my page insead of the Blank searh engine that is on my start up page now

Before I did the last upgrade with Firefox, I had the Google search bar in the middle of my start page. Now , after the upgrade, my Google search bar is up on a tool bar at top of the page and the when you type something in the large Firefox box in the middle of the page does nothing even though it has the Search box to the right of it. The restore last session is under that. I just have a large box in the middle of start page that does nothing. I wish that was my Google search box again.

Restoring Google Search page as the home page
What you are looking at on the web page is a search form, not a search bar. Mozilla changed the default home page to about:home which is supposed to be faster because it is on your computer, but they piled on a few ornaments. There is a space which is essentially advertising space for Mozilla, or to tell you that you have a previous session available below the search form area.
You can replace that page with a real Google Search page http://www.google.com which like other Google pages has links at the top to other Google applications and tells you if you are logged into Google such as for GMail.
"Alt" > Tools > Options > General >
:When Firefox starts: "Show my homepage":
:Home Page: http://www.google.com
:Press "Ok" at the bottom of the options window.
Specific information on installing a home page is in
:http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page
Some problems with terminology
The search bar is part of your toolbars and you can bring up any search engine you want in it.
Google has their own "Google Toolbar" extension, which you would do well to avoid.
The large empty space on the about:home default home page, is to tell you that you have a previous session available. You don't need that notification you can bring up your "Previous Session" from the History menu, and after that you can bring up previous windows (or all of them also from same History menu).
In fact if you would like to see the notification at the end of your session, enabling you to restore your current tabs see item #31 (#tabslost) in the following: ...
You can make Firefox Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6). • Creating List box and check box in structure

Hi
I have to include List box(Drop down) of lenght 20 and check box in a screen area.
The fields on screen are to be transported from structure CI_PROJ in table PROJ.
How can i Include List box and check box in my structure CI_PROJ.
Also wat data type is required

Hi,
             For the list box if you have the data element along with the search help then you can use that dataelement. If you dont have search help at dataelement level then for the structure you have to assign a search help directly. If you dont have data element it self then domain's fixed values will be shown in the drop down. For the check box you have to use a data element with a domain having CHAR and length 1.
For the list box you will KEY and VALUES. Key is the one that is transfered to your program data and VALUE is the one that is shown to the user. You have to use the data element of your KEY for the list box.
