Search by Sender

How do you search by sender? I don't see the same functionality available on their mail software as the iPod. Can we group the emails received from exchange by sender (with alphabetical filters...ie. a-c, d-f, etc.)?
I was looking for an email today to reference in a meeting and it took forever. I know the sender; however, I was not able to filter by that person or sort by sender. I had to scroll down 50 emails.
The whole touch screen scrolling looks great; however, gets annoying and impractical when you have over 50 emails on your inbox for work.

How to stop Mail from searching for sender's image?

When I'm going through messages in Mail, it won't display the message in the preview pane for several seconds until it completes the "Searching for sender's image" process. I have a large address book with several thousand entries. Is there a way to prevent Mail from searching for the contact's image in the Address Book? This wasn't an issue in 10.4.11.

The iPhone data plans are unlimited, so you shouldnt be concerned about cost. That being said, it is ANNOYING to have all accounts (I have six) check email just because I launch the mail app. And if I follow a URL in an email to Safari, then come back to Mail, it checks AGAIN.
Nope, there is not way to stop if from doing that short of turning the account OFF under Mail Settings, which is even MORE inconvenient. I went to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and left them a message. Perhaps you should do the same.

Mail 5.1 -- sorting and searching by sender

I just upgraded to Lion OS X, and I took the opportunity to move from Entourage to Mail 5.1. I may have to move over to Outlook for Mac if I can't figure this out. I'd like to be able to sort and search by sender without using the search bar, which requires me to use the mouse. Please don't ask me why; suffice to say I like keystrokes, as I find them much faster!
In every other email program that I ever used, I could search quickly for a person's emails by (1) clicking on the "From" column to sort by sender, and then (2) typing the person's first name. For example, once I had sorted by "From," if I started to type "Michael," the cursor would move immediately to the first "Michael" in the list of senders. Or if I just typed "M," the cursor would move to the first "M" in the list of senders. Etc.
In Mail, as a default rule, the program does something else: Even though I've sorted by "From," it finds the first reference to what I've typed -- e.g., Michael -- in the list of subjects, rather than in the list of senders. This is downright absurd. I have 10,000 emails in my inbox. When I'm trying to find one, I'm looking for the author. I don't remember the first word of the subject line. I remember the author. In any event, the program ought to look through the column by which I've sorted. Once I've sorted by "From," it should look through the "From" column, not the "Subject" column.
Is there any way to change this default rule? If this is a bug, can someone please fix it? Thanks!

Additional information - I am continually getting a dialog box that pops up and says "Address Book wants to use 'login' keychain" I enter it and the box goes away for a while. Then comes back for no apparent reason. Does this make any sense as to the cause? Another aspect of this, which I've seen elsewhere in the forum, is regular crashing when trying to search mail. My MacBook has the same OS and it works perfectly in all respects.

Mail Hangs Up at "Getting Messages" and "Searching for Sender's Image"

When I open mail and view a message, the Activity Viewer window continues to show the "Getting message '<name of message>'" activity next to a frozen striped bar. If I click on another message to view it, I get another activity line in the window "Getting message <etc.>," but this time with a moving striped bar. Below that there's a "Searching for sender's image" activity line and moving striped bar. This is accompanied by a spinning cog next to "loading message" in the Mail viewer window. At this point Mail is stuck. This is a brand new problem as of this morning. I've used mail successfully for quite a while now. Does this sound like an issue with the program, with my mail provider, with a particular email, or something else? Also, I can access email as normal through my ISP's webmail portal.

The console.log displays a list of errors such as the following:

It seems to be processing each message in my inbox in order starting from about 3pm yesterday. I assume that it was doing the same when I first posted yesterday morning.
I have run disk utility and find nothing wrong with my system or hard drive.

Search and send mail

i recently upgraded to tiger from panther on my iBook G4.
1. there used to be a drop down in the search box to define where i wanna search: from, to, etc. now it is just a search box. i usually used the search to find mail from a particular sender. how can i put those back?
2. it appears that i can't send e-mail if i am not within my own apple wireless network. is there a security setting or what????
any clue to these?

What type of account are you using, and what SMTP is selected as the Outgoing Server? Any restriction is more likely a function of Port 25 being blocked by the provider of the other networks you join. If using the smtp.mac.com server, change the Port to 587, and try.

Email search and send issues ios7

I have noticed two issues in my email app and am wondering if anyone else can explain this:
1) when searching for email my email is not sorted by date.
2) when sending email my default email address is not always used. This happens for frequently emailed contacts. I type the contacts email address and my send from email address changes from the default address to another. (I have multiple email accounts configured on my phone and I'm in the all mail view creating a new message)
This is supremely irritating. Hope someone can explain and suggest a workaround.

Regarding the search it happens to me as well, it's not sorted according the date.
Regarding the send address for the new mail, have you configured your default email account in
Settings>mail, contacts,calendars>default account to your preferred account?

I just found this thread and am appreciative of the information. I am currently deleting over 24,000 emails that gmail has kept in the all mail folder. I noticed my mac mail was running so slowly and when I opened and watched the activity panel, I saw how many messages it was moving between mail and the gmail server. ugh!
So, whil I have to delete these in groups to make sure I keep any I have MEANT to keep, I just changed my settings to the 'immediate delete message forever' option. I had to change the setting above that one, to choose 'Auto expunge Off: wait for the client to udate the server'. Can you clarify what this means? I am wondering if a setting I have will cause an issue, and they may not be connected at all. I tell mail not to check for messages automatically, to wait until I ask it to check. With this set, will the system not delete unless I tell it to check messages? I hope I am asking this clearly.
To be honest, some of the other explanations here on hiding folders, etc. I am concerned if I hide a folder, I won't see that it has collected xxxxx number of emails or some other function. Hiding seems mildly dangerous to knowing what is going on. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are suggesting.
I like using mac mail on my iMac, ipad and iphone and having it match what I see in gmail when I check it at work. So I am grateful for the help to smooth out the process. The least checking that I can do, and deleting, etc., and still being able to find the message I need to keep, make me a happier user.

Firefox browser not loading, page tabs not loading, search bar sending me to a different location. back buttons,refresh and x grayed out

search bar is not right, missing one search bar. last week the same bar would take me to a shopping site other than the site i typed in. now some things are missing, or grayed out on the tool bar, back buttons, refresh and red x is one. google button isn't working any more or option buttons. when it loads it doesnt show any tabs from last time. i have to reload several times for it to work. Some pages won't open when selected from my bookmarks.

To find out the version of software you have go to Help and then choose About. I remember reading an article a while ago about a firewall application that when they did an update, it stopped some browsers from working or something like that.
I wonder if this is something similar?

I hate Outlook, how do you actually search by sender like in Gmail?

Bare in mind the more you cache offline the more space you need locally - if you had a 50GB mailbox and had 45GB used, and choose to cache all files, you'd need 45GB plus additional space for index, and the DB extras, so probably close to the 50GB mark

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.

How do I use "Search Query" for nontrivial searches?

After a few years in the community, this is my _first_ question to the boards ;-)
In speaking with a colleague today, I learned about an NI forum feature that would be useful for me. When I tried to configure it, I then learned that I didn't know how to use it. When I tried to learn how to use it, I further learned that it wasn't fully documented. So, I'd like some clarification :-)
The feature in question is "Search Query" which will send you an email when a forum search matches your query. What I don't know is:
What are the rules (syntax) for search queries? For example, I would like to search for single words, all the words that I specify, as well as exact phrases. How do I differentiate between multiword queries and exact phrase queries?
Is it possible to have more than one Search Query?
If so, how do you delineate them? Would I use commas, a new line, something else?
I'm asking because the available (and discoverable) documentation doesn't mention what to do when you want more than one Search Query. The help text on the subscription page [1] makes me think that only one query is possible, and says a Search Query:
Sends you mail every time a message matching your query is submitted. Search queries take up to 15 minutes to take effect. Saving a blank query will disable this feature and will stop any mail from being sent.
The other place I tried was the NI Forum FAQ [2], which makes me think that more than one query is possible:
If you add a board, thread, message, or search term to your subscriptions, the system will send you an e-mail every time someone posts to the board, or replies to the message or thread. If you prefer not to receive an e-mail for your subscriptions, you can subscribe to the RSS feed of a board, thread, user, or search term.
The FAQ goes on about what to do with board, thread, and message subscriptions, but doesn't say anything more about search subscriptions.
The last place I looked was on the search results page itself. In the blue header that precedes the results, there's a link on the far left that says "Search Options" with a single option that says "Subscribe to this search's RSS Feed". While I could subscribe and use an RSS reader, I really would prefer email. I suppose if only one Search Query is possible, then this will be my workaround.
As a comment, why does the Search Options menu not also have a "Subscribe to this search" option, which would add another entry in the Search Query box? This is a noticeably different interface than the Thread Options menu.

Thanks for all of the questions and congrats on posting your first question!
Unfortunately I think all of your questions come from the valid assumption that the search query functionality is more robust than it actually is. The search query functionality really only serves a single purpose and that is to email you when your phrase has been posted to the forums. For me, I use it to email me when my name is mentioned in the forums. It serves this purpose well since I have it set up to work off just a single search term. However I find that multiple word phrases are combined with an OR which is not as useful. The search query does not adhere to any common search syntax that you would expect (I believe we are the only community that uses this feature so it has not been improved upon).
The best way to set up both multiple word queries and multiple different queries is to use the RSS feed as you mentioned. This way you can tailor your search very specifically using different advanced search options and subscribe to them all in one feed reader without constantly getting emails. The search query emails do not adhere to the digest subscription settings. I find that the RSS feeds work very well for searches and I am fond of using them, but I do use an RSS Reader for many things so it is not out of my normal workflow.

Sender jms adapter-archiving before processing the message

Hi,
Do we have any option in Sender JMS adapter to archive the message before processing the message?
I have searched in sender JMS adapter (XI7.0) settings, but couldn't find any option.
My assumption is whether any option provided in configuration setting of adapter engine or any other alternatives.

When you configure the module in the JMS sender communication channel you have to spedify 2 parameter for the log file location:
"file.path" (XI server file system path) and "file.name"

Problem with sender of FAX

Hi,
I have the following problem: There is a Z program that generates and sends a form (Smartform) depending on Customer master to an email or a fax number to travez of the SOST transaction. All good, but when the form is sent by fax, the fax server takes the order and sends to the customer fax this also does well, but the fax server returns the result from the shipment to the sender in case the user is generated by document (form), but is sent to the fax number that the user has, and if the user don't have fax number (but have email address), generates the shipment in the SOST transaction, but with error: "No delivery, as sender address is invalid." Anyway, do not know how to take the user email.
I am not sure if by some parameters of the program.
Please if anyone has any help.

Hmmm…then I'm thinking either it's getting that info from the registration form you completed when you first got your Mac, or there's an entry in the .plist file for Mail that is being used to pull that address from.
There should be a file (or an alias or Symbolic Link) called Send Registration or something similar on your Mac, unless you deleted it. I'm not sure of the exact location, but you can do a Spotlight search for "Send" and/or "Registration" and that should find it if it's there. If you delete it (but don't empty the Trash), then restart Mail, that might solve the problem.
Otherwise, you can open the com.apple.Mail.plist file with something like Pref Setter and carefully scroll thorugh the entries to see if that bogus email address is listed there, and if so, get rid of it, then save the changes, quit and restart Mail to see if that solves the problem.

ESS: "Send and Save" button in the overview "trips and travel expenses"

Hi all!
How can I add a "Search and Send" button in the overview "trips and travel expenses"?
The employees have to go into each trip, in order to send it to the travel manager.
Is there another opportunity:
maybe, select the trip items in the overview and send it.
