Search contacts by Alzheimer

I forget names. But, I can often think of something about that person that helps me categorize them. It could be city, spouse name, hobby, occupation.  I want to search my contacts by using that association to get to the name. The Palm OS does it nicely. How do I search by association on the Blackberry 8330?

Welcome to the forums.
Assuming you have that type of information stored for each user (spouse name, hobby, etc), you can use the Search icon on the main screen.  Click on that icon, type the hobby or whatever in the Text field, check the Address Book box (uncheck Messages, too, as it's a default), and then search.

  • NOKIA E51 - Is it possible to search contacts in a...

I have a new Nokia E51, very great device, but I have to manage 2243 contacts (!). The (new) actual searching contacts way is just crazy for me: if I try to write the word john... the phone shows me hundreds of contacts with that part of word.
I'd like to know if there is a way to set the phone so to search contacts using names in the usual alphabetical order: just writing the first letter, than the second ,the third, and so on?
Somebody on this forum suggested to use Text-Quick (http://mind-flip.com/textquick/index.html) but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in that way, but just keeping memory of more searched contacts.
It is really really annoying the way it searches.
    Help please!
Somebody else on this forum said It is a bit counter intuitive at first, but once you get used to it the wider search is actually much better than the first name search (particularly if your memory for names isn't too great) but what you can do if you have thousands of contacts?
There will be soon an alternative option in the contacts settings for next E51 firmware?
    Thank you

You wanna know the weirdest thing...
In my E51 it DOESN'T search for any string even in the middle.. it only searches alphabetically on the first name or the last name. But not something in the middle.
HOWEVER, other applications that show the contact list, such as Fring, *DO* search on any in-between string.
So apparently the phone can do both.. I don't see it as a setting though.
As a personal preference I think I would prefer being able to search for any in-between string.. I mean to me it just seems like a natural transition from the old days when contact names were in SIM memory and you only had like 8 characters to enter someone so you ended up with loads of "John K", "JLee" and other cryptic but short names.
These days I would recommend that if your contact is called "John Samolowicz" to actually spell that out in the appropriate fields. Then you find someone instantly by searching for something more unique than his first name...
AND/OR use the 'Groups' feature: If you put people in groups then simply moving to the tab to the right from the contacts list would give you a much reduced list of people in a particular group; Don't tell me that you actually CALL 2000 people on a regular basis..
To search middle string, use the SEARCH from OFFICE Folder. You can find on the Contact part of search result.

  • E71 how to search contact by phone number

    Hi All,
any idea for E71 how to search contact by phone number? sometimes it will be useful if  i can just type in the phone number and it show me the contact name
    Thanks

There is no way to do that directly from Home Screen, however you can always get in the "Search: Internet and My Content" application, choose contacts and start to type phone number. You will get what you want.
    Enjoy!

    Hi Sarabjeet,
The XML iView uses server-side fetching, so if you are having problems with a regular URL iView in server-side fetching mode, so the problem with the XML iVIew probably has to do with the proxy settings.
And since you got a 407 error, it seems there is an issue with proxy settings or the proxy server, as mentioned in this description of 407 error:
The HTTP 407 code only applies to users who are accessing the Internet behind a proxy server. This is common in government and corporate workplaces. The 407 code indicates that your computer must first authenticate itself with your company's proxy server. Check with your IT department or computer support group as to the exact reason why you may be getting this error. It may be possible that the proxy server does not allow downloads of specific files (exe, cab, com). You can also verify that your proxy server settings are valid.
I will check if I can find out any more specific info.

Can you add the contact by searching the SIP address?
Please check if the files GalContacts.db and GalContacts.db.idx are updated in Lync users’ profile folder.
I guess these files are not updated.
If this issue happens with several Lync users, you can copy these two files form users’ profile folder to replace the ones in problem Lync users’ profile folder to confirm that.
Try to run the command Set-CsClientPolicy –Identity -AddressBookAvailability WebSearchOnly, then sign out Lync for Mac and sign in, check if you can search the contacts.

  • 6233 Search contact in last name AND first name

    Hi,
the 6233 does not search Contacts in both first names AND last names. It only searches only in what come first.
Exemple : searching for "Paul" does not find "Smith Paul"
Do I need a firmware update to fix this ??
    Thanks for your answer !

    Hi Chen,
Based on my knowledge, there is no related method to enforce all users using More Columns as the default search option in Outlook Address Book. We can just change the search option for individual Outlook user by remembering the last search using as I mentioned
    above.
Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

  • Search Contacts & Directory fails

End users using OWA on Exchange 2013 CU5. Doesn't matter what browser or any other client-side information. I can give myself delegate access to various mailboxes and come up with the same error.
They compose a new message. Type the name in the To.. field and the application pops the drop-down with the magnifying glass that reads "Search Contacts & Directory". When you click, it states in the same box "Can't connect. Please
    try again later."
    Troubleshooting steps, thus far:
    Recycle OWA Application Pools.
    Recycle ECP Application Pools.
Recycle OAB Application Pools (yes, I know, this is for Outlook only).
    Restart all CAS servers.
Nothing works. Has anyone else seen this and found a fix for it? It has to be something simple that I am missing.

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to verify if the email address you search can be listed in Default Global Address List.
Open EAC -> organization -> address lists -> Default Global Address List

  • Searching contacts problem..... Please Help

I am new in Blackberry Support Community Forums.
I have Blackberry 8800 and about 15 days ago I had added a Very Important Contact. Now I had forgotten everything only I can remember is I had added Category as Friends and I am not able to search that contact in friends as I have about 500 contacts saved as friend. So is there is any other way to search this contact as it is very urgent..
Please help me. Can I search recently added contacts as this happens most times with me..

There is no option for Searching Recently Added Contacts in Blackberry.
But this is possible only if you install Zebrost Phonebook (ZPB) Software from Blackberry App World.
It enables to search contacts in all fields, for example you had added category as friends so you can also search in Friend Category and we can also search the recently added contacts.
For example if you want to search contact saved by you recently, then go to zpb in your Blackberry and go to Options>> Show Contacts>> Recently Added or you can directly type #a15 for searching contact  in last 15 days, similarly if to want to search for the contacts saved in last month then just type #a30.
Try ZPB as it is available for free of cost.
    All the best.

  • POP3 email account (TO: search contacts)

Does anyone know how to search contacts from POP3 account when writing a new message before you type any email address in it says search contacts.  I was hoping the email address book I have setup on my pop3 account would be searched or even a "global" list.  I have contacts setup in Verizon email net mail which I exported from backup assistant and then imported into Verizon email address book.  guess the address book is locally saved somewhere once you send a few emails it saves those addresses and you can search?

must have emails in the Kin Contacts for the "search contacts" to work.  Once I had a few email contacts in, they were listed below so it only pulls local contacts from the kin contacts not a search.
I used the broswer thru wifi and was able to go to verizon email address book on verizon.net and click on phone numbers of contacts which imports only the phone number and puts the contact at the top of contact list as "new contact" so you can't import names and numbers together this way either.
I really wish there was a "back" and "next" button in the broswer for scrolling thru contact list html pages

  • No Keyboard For Search Contact and Create Contact

When I try to search contact in contact list, there is no keyboard pop-up. And when I try to create contact, I place cursor in First Name but how much I try, no keyboard is appeared.
Have you faced this issue? How can I solve it?
My phone is iphone 4 and OS 7.1.
    Thank you.

  • Search contacts from phone num block

When I am start to make a call I start the phone app. Then activate the num block.
At the number keys there is letters.
I would find it natural to start typing the letters that my contacts name starts with. But it do not work that way. Even when I know that the app is looking in the cantactlist after each number i press.

There is no search function available with the Keypad.
Whichever function is selected when leaving the Phone app - Favorites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad, or Voicemail, that function will be available when returning to the Phone app. If you want to search contacts before dialing a number, have Contacts selected for the Phone app, or have Favorites selected which is a speed dial for the iPhone.

  • Spotlight stops searching contacts

Hi, this one is a 'baffler' - new state of puzzlement.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion spotlight would occasionally stop searching my contacts, the artist previously known as Address Book. The Spotlight preference box for Contacts is ticked, and the Privacy tab does not have anything listed. Occasionally it would start searching Contact again after a re boot, but this is a mac and shouldn't need that. Now even that doesn't work, I can't get spotlight to search contacts at all. I have also added my HD to privacy, then removed it off forcing it to re index everything, which takes a while. It would work after that then stop after a few days.
I am normally not alone if ever I have a problem and find helpful solutions in forums etc. But alas, I seem to be on my lonesome on this cold dark night.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

I am on OS 10.8.2, All Latest Updates, MacBook Pro 17', SSD all maxed out.
I don't remember having this issue prior to OS 10.8.2, to which I Upgraded from 10.7.4.
I did not try Deleting any Files or Folder to fix this yet!
I did recently Signed Out and back Into iCloud while on call with AppleCare.
This issue of - Spotlight Stops Searching Contacts - comes and goes!
This issue existed before and after my Sign Out and Into iCloud!!!
Below is the Log of my Latest Research:
    Thursday, November 15, 2012
Re-indexed Spotlight on my MacBook Pro by Dragging my Macintosh HD in and out of Privacy Tab in Spotlight!
54 minutes remaining at halfway point. Looks like it could be a two hour project!
That took 1hr 9min on my SSD!!!
    Problem still exists
Time Machine Backup ran during Re-Indexing, but I decided to let it do its thing!
    Unchecked Contacts in Spotlight
    Restarted
    Checked Contacts in Spotlight
Problem still exists  - even if it worked for the l1nu5r post on Apple Discussions below
    Saturday, November 17, 2012
After 2 SuperDuper Clone Backups + Time Machine Backup - All Contacts can be Searched in Spotlight!!!! The Issue Fixed itself - All Contacts could be Searched in Spotlight, but... That "success" lasted only for a day:)!
    Sunday, November 18, 2012
After my SuperDuper Clone Backup, Contacts could not be found, even after UnMounted External HDs, turned them off and Restarted, and Shut Down my Mac twice!
I Edit a Contact and that Contact showed up in Spotlight, but only that Contact
I did a Safe Boot - Nothing in Spotlight was available except Web and Wikipedia
I Shut Down for 2 min and Restarted. Spotlight did some more Indexing for about 1 minute!
That Edited Contact showed up in Spotlight, but only that Contact
    My Best Guess:
This issue appears to be related to iCloud!
I hope Apple is reading this and all our posts!
Apple is welcome to call me...
I will be calling AppleCare soon!
I hope All Our Dots Will Connect, so that this Issue is fixed!!!
    Stay tuned!

  • Searching Contacts by Address Data

    Hi,
Is there a way to search contacts based on their address information?  Example:  I know I met someone in Vernon, NJ and entered that information in their address field for their contact entry on my phone but don't remember their name.  Is there a way to search contacts via that field?
Thanks in advance for any help!

The easiest way I can think of is just go online into your GOOGLE (Gmail) account and click on CONTACTS ... the Addresses for your contacts will display there - not Searchable, but all visible and you can scroll down through your list of Contacts.  Don't know of an easy way to do this on the phone itself ...
