Found the same problem these days...
Note that there are two "/" before "_searchotnerr.java".So I assert this is a programmatic problem.Hopely to be solved quickly by Oracle ,anyway.

safari won't search - crashes. It will connect to a bookmark or known address but will not seach.  I have iMac's but like to keep my old eMac going because I like the data base on Applework and a few other functions.

    Hi Ken,
    Couple of things to try...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
Or whatever interface you connect with.

  • Browse and power search crashes itunes

I do not understand. I am using itunes 5 (I don't want to upgrade to 6) and everytime I click "Browse" or "power search"
in the itunes store window, itunes crashes.
I tried uninstalling Quicktime, and itunes, then installing quicktime standalone, reboot, reinstall itunes 5, but it does the same thing. itunes does not crash on my laptop, just my desktop. I don't know when, or why this is happening, but it seems like it was working fine last week. I even uninstalled a Windows update, known to cause problems, and that didn't help.

Same problem here. I've spent two hours repairing permissions, etc. I haven't added anything new to my computer so Apple has changed something. I don't have time to upgrade. I don't care about video, or TV. I wanted some new songs for the Holiday, but I guess it won't happen. Bloatware. Apparently they've "broken" iTunes 5.

  • Advanced Index Search Crashes Acrobat Pro and Reader

I have a problem of which I've not been able to find a similar past experience. Acrobat Pro 9.5 and Reader X both crash on a Windows 7 PC whenever I initiate a search using our Adobe-created index files. These index files work for every other computer on our Network and all relevant users have the same permissions to access the indexes. I've trashed the preferences folder and even uninstalled and reinstalled both programs. The functions are not relegated to a particular user on the machine as the problem is the same across the board, so I've narrowed the problem down to being on the PC itself. I've not seen this as a known issue anywhere nor seen people write about this as a past issue. Any and all help appreciated, and thanks in advance!

    Bump. Y'know, for kids.

DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • GREP search crashes InDesign

    Hi,
I have a script which imports XML and formats it. As part of the formatting, there's numerous GREP searches which remove redundant spaces, returns and so on.
One in particular crashes InDesign and it's driving me nuts.
It's supposed to remove redundant returns in a table:
// GREP Search for redundant returns
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "ArticleMinister";
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "\r$";
    app.changeGrepPreferences.changeTo = "";
    app.activeDocument.changeGrep();
The problem is there's an XML closing tag between the carriage return and the end of the para, i.e. data{return}</closingtag>, but it works fine when the XML is data</closingtag>{return}.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.

    Hi Vamitul,
Thanks very much for the reply and it makes perfect sense.
This script creates quite a complex document and, for some reason, moving the {return} outside the XML tags makes a mess of the document. I do not know why but I suspect that some of the 'clean up' non-GREP search and replace commands in the script are ignoring the XML data - perhaps not but I cannot for the life of me work out why a simple change is making the text a real mess.
So the 'harder fix' sounds like something worth pursuing as this is the last step in a long process. Do you have any more information about checking the xmlContents? I don't expect anyone else to do my work for me, but advanced (or even intermediate) scripting is something I struggle with.
    Cheers,
    Simon.

  • Spotlight search crashes finder

    Greetings,
I have searched the discussions for this, but found nothing:
Certainly the answer is probably simple, but it is escaping me...
When I do a Spotlight search of an AFP volume on a Window 2003 server,
and the search contains the exact word as the name of the volume,
it crashes the finder. If I do an abreviated search for the same file,
    no crash.
Replicated this crash on three otherwise healthy Macs running 10.4.7.
It is more of iritant than anything. We store client files on volumes
named with the company name, and occassionally we need to search
for files on those volumes obviously containing that same company name.
Below is the log if anyone wants to tell me what it means.
    Thanks!

Did you update your OS recently?
After each OS update I download, I always repair my
    Disk Permissions afterwards.
Try repairing your permissions using Disk Utility.
Remember to mark as helpful or solved.
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, all 36 Macs I maintain are running 10.4.7 (except the QLA servers which run 10.3.9), and have regular maintanance including permissions repair.
I suspect that it has something to do with the AFP volume
name being created by Windows, and only the contents contained within that volume are searchable by a Mac
in Spotlight. But why the crash?
Shouldn't Spotlight just ignore the volume name,
or better, access it through NFS?

  • Why does Google Earth search crash with 10.8.5?

Everytime I try a search using Google Earth, Google Earth crashes. It worked fine before updating the OS. I've tried reloading Google Earth, all to no avail.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Calendar search crash

I have a strange reproducible crash of the iPad 2 Calendar app in iOS5 if I type certain
digits in the search box. For example, a search for 19 makes the app crash as
soon as I type the 9. Same result with some other numbers, but not all.
Can anyone confirm this? How do I report this to Apple?

I have exact same issue but crashes on any search.

  • Place dialog  - Finder Search - Crash

I have looked through the forums and can't find this bug. Since upgrading to leopard, I can't use the search box in the finder's place dialog. It causes Indesign CS3 to crash immediately.

  • Help: PRC Search crashes IIS

    Hello there,
I'm posting here first in hopes to get a quick insight into a problem before I send it to support people. I'm doing a load testing of plumtree's remote search and under certain conditions it crashes our IIS entirely. Here is my setup.
PT Portal and PTAPI sits on one box, PT Search Server sits on another box. A remote virtual application resides on the portal box in its own virtual folder under high isolation level. The application consists of one page which uses PRC search to get PT users with given text. The same search is performed under explicit context using the same user credentials every time.
I'm using Microsoft Application Center Test to do the load testing. The goal is to test a maximum sustained number of requests per second as the number of users increase. I start with one user and end at fifty.
Around 35 user connections the performance peaks at about 40 rps, then it declines, IIS returns loads of errors, and around 45+ connections IIS dies completely. R.I.P.
If I introduce slight variations into my tests (changing explicit credentials with each request, changing search string with each request, running PTSpy (!!!), etc), I get wildly different results, however none with dramatic crash. The errors I receive range from "server unxpectedly closed connection", to "Unexcpected error in PTFilter", to something about "Search queue/pool exceeding 20 limit".
Anyone knows about anything of sorts?
    Thanks,Ruslan.

  • Safari - Google attempted search - Crash

General search here were some old hits from 2010 or further out -
All day it's fine - maybe 5 browsers - attempt a Google search - at the point of entering term - spinout / crash.
I'm not sure where this crash reports sits to show key points.
    The one tip suggests  -
    Close Safari -
Trash the Safari preference file (com.apple.safari.plist), open Safari and see if it behaves.
I'm just not sure the real way to get there - the path suggested is poorly done.
I'll explore library to see if I can find it - and where crash report might be stored.
I'm on the laptop MBP 13"  10.6.8 - but this also happens once a week about the same on the MacPro same OS.
I'll kill Safari web content at activity monitor once in a while to free up as much RAM as possible
to help with edgy action on web pages that sorta hang from scrolling.
Also do the Safari Tab / Empty Cache action.
    Thanks

  • Spotlight searches crashing

every time i run a spotlight search it seems to crash on me, even after reboots of the machine.
a good example is using it to quickly find and execute a program, i type in there say for example disk utility, it finds the results but when i click it to execute the program just crashes, spotlight then restarts and if i try it again.
    can anyone help

    HI,
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.spotlight.plist.
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
Why launch your apps from Spotlight when you can use the Dock? So much quicker that way.

  • Searching crashes on IOS8

Since installing IOS8 yesterday, every attempt at entering text into the search bar with Safari, using any of the search engine choices, causes the app to crash within the first 1 or 2 characters, and return to the home screen.  Using Spotlight works sometimes and sometimes also crashes the app. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?  Is there a workaround?

I was having the same problem, but just found a simple fix on another thread that worked perfectly for me. Go to Settings >> Safari >> Clear History and Website Data. One simple push fixed it for me. iPhone5.

  • Does anyone have spotlight search crash?

On both my iphone and ipad air, spotlight crashes often.  When I pull it down from the middle of the home screen it apears for about two seconds and then automatically goes back to the home screen again without touching the screen.  It is hit or miss, but seems to happen everytime if I haven't used spotlight search for a few hours.  Is anyone else noticing this?

    this?
Yep. The people who own Google and make their living
    providing such
    servcices.
Or the bods who wrote Lucene or Verity have a clue or two,
    too.
You're basically asking us if we know how to write a search
    engine. My
suggestion would be to not try to reinvent the wheel, but use
    one of the
    systems already out there.
Google appliances costs a fair bit, but Lucene is free, and
    CF bundles
Verity with it. I recommend you use one of those two.
