Search Discussions?

Am I missing something (besides the ability to search)? Where is the search box?

No, you're not missing anything. A Host said it has been turned off while the sysops troubleshoot the "seizures" discussions is having today.

  • Where is my Search Discussion Field?

    Hi guys,
Sorry if I am not at the right place to ask this, but I am really lost. I can't search anything in the Discussions: the Search Discussions Field seems to have disappeared.
I feel like a lost soul...
    Keep up the good work,
    RTP

    You're Welcome Roger!
I seldom navigate to the Discussions Home Page, so I probably would not have seen the announcement either!
I was made aware of it here, in Feedback.
I certainly hope it is reinstated soon!
And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding in  Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

  • How to search discussions

I see no way to search discussions. Did that feature go away? Discussions seems mightily impaired without it.

I know this is a free service provided by Apple, but it's a great resource and rendering it basically useless was a really bad idea.
Turning some features off is a temporary measure to handle an unusual amount of traffic. Obviously it's not ideal, but it is surely intended to maintain stability and allow the forums to stay up at all.
The announcement should be a link on the right side of the main Discussions page. For those not seeing it, it says:

    Good afternoon,
With the popularity of the iPhone and it's related discussion areas, we have experienced heavy usage and reduced availability of Apple Discussions today. In order to improve site performance, we have temporarily disabled the following site features:
    * Search
    * Read tracking (the "blue dots")
    * Subscription emails
We are working to restore these features as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented and exciting period in Apple's history.
    Regards,
    Apple Discussions staff

  • Where is the "search discussions box"?

I would like to search the discussions base before posting a new inquiry. I remember a search box that was in the upper right of the area but I don't seem to be able to find it now?
    NEPA

You currently can't from within the Discussions. Until that feature is restored, go to Google and perform an advanced search with discussions.apple.com as the site.

    Hi,
You can index the folders that contain the contents of the discussion forum.

  • Did they remove the ability to search discussions?

The search at the top right doesn't let me select "discussions" and I see no other link!

    ooops.. it is cmd f
IMAC G5 1.8Ghz Power PC Mac OS
    X (10.4.8) 1G RAM
While the Find feature has been present in web browsers for years now, that is a great tip.
However, if I was on the correct page (out of thousands), I wouldn't need the Search feature.
There is a huge difference between find and search. We need the search feature please!!!

  • Suggestion for Apple Discussion searches

I believe that many users will search a solution when they have a problem, either using the Advance Search on this Website or Search Discussion.
However, when we do the search under this Discussion, can we get the filter/option of "Restrict by solved or helpful cases"? As there are many messages with only have questions without any solution or suggestion.

    Hi Mitch 751,
This request may already be on the list but if it isn't, it will be added.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Ok I'm stupid:  How to search

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I can't figure out these new forums.  After going through the ugly process below, I'd like to see:
    - On the initial page, a way to specify that I only want to search the forum I'm already in.
    - On the initial page of the forum a Help button for search help. Somewhere.
    - Please don't make me go through the pain of refinding my chosen forum in the Where drop-down list.
    - Consistent use of defined terms. The search result shows me "Items". I think those are also called "Discussions".
For those who want to see how stupid I really am, here's a play by play so far....
Got myself to the Illustrator forum, no problem. I don't see my problem listed on the first page here. Hmmm, how do I search? Best to read the instructions. Is there a "Newbies Search Help" button somewhere?  Anywhere? Nope. Well, guess I'll forge ahead. Here's a "Search Forums" blank. I'll type "feather".  Let's see, 198 results. Cool. Here's a possibility:  "directional feather".  I'll read that... no wait. It's in the InDesign forum!  I started out in the Illustrator forum, why am I seeing InDesign answers?
Well, the little sidebar says "You can choose to search all content or filter it by content type". (Hmm, I didn't see a filter when I first typed in my search criteria. Would have been handy there.)  Guess on this page now I do have a "sort by" filter. Relevance, Rating, Subject, Date.  No mention of sort by Forum. Well, there's a More Options link under the Search bar now, I'll try that. (Wonder why that wasn't available when I first started searching.)    It wants to know What. Well, I want to search the Illustrator Forum. Should I take off the checkbox for Discussions and People?  No... I think I want to search Discussions. Just in the Illustrator forum, but hopefully it will figure that out. OK, let's turn off the other two checkboxes.  Next question:  When.  I don't care. All is fine. Now it wants to know WHERE?  Hey, I STARTED OUT IN THE ILLUSTRATOR FORUM. Ok Ok, I'll choose it again in the list.  Adobe Illustrator. Wow there are a lot of entries under "A". Indented entries, too. No, it must be under "I". I'll just keep scrolling down... wow, this is taking forever. Let's grab the scroll bar... Whoops, I went past. Illustrator, there we are.  Next question. Who? I don't care.
OK, where's the button I press to go ahead with my search?  Hmmm. Must be next to the "search forums blank at the top again--- oh no, don't touch that!  I think I almost searched for the phrase "search forums".  OK, there's a Search button next to the "Search for" blank, which still contains the word "feather".   Whew.  28 results. I think they're all for Illustrator.
I wonder if there is a way to open one of the items (I think they're called Discussions although it doesn't call them that here) without losing this "collection."  Gosh, I wish there was a Help button. But I do see a "Search Tips" link. Dare I?  Well it's mostly about the particulars of searching for certain words.  No real instructions for us newbies. I'll read the three easiest steps:  Yep. Looks like choosing my forum from the "where" dropdown list is the only way to tell it that I do indeed want my search to be enacted only within the forum I was originally in...
OK, let's select this "discussion". Hmm, I'm in the middle of the discussion; this doesn't make sense yet. I think I need to "go to original post".  Nope, this isn't what I need. Let's go back to the collection of 28 results.  Back Arrow. And of course it's walking me back through all the replies I clicked on. Back. Back. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. OK, I'm back at my list of 28 results.
...ya know, I'm tired. I think I'll search later. I have to get back to work.

    That describes the nightmare beautifully.
Just think, there is a person somewhere that designed that piece of shît.
He probably thinks he did a good job.
His pointy haired boss probably congratulated him.
I hope they both rot in ...
And we thought the search facility in the old forums was rubbish!

  • Problem with Search?

Is there an issue with the Forum Search feature? Searching on the word "Camino" which I used in a post a few hours ago brings back no results.

To clarify, when in the "Feedback about New Discussions" Forum Listing, the search box is headed "Search Forum" and returns no result despite there being two posts with the correct value present.
When viewing a post, the search field heading reads "Search Discussions" and does seem to conduct a search across all forums. It however only seems to return results up to 12th November (for the term "Camino" at least).

  • How to search?

Sorry for being so stupid, but I cannot not figure out how to search this discussion group...
The help says "On most Apple Discussions pages, you'll find a Search Discussions box in the upper right corner" This seems clearly stated but I only see the site search function which is of little use. As I have explored around I have yet to see the pane described by the help as, "You can also refine your search by using the options in the Search Discussions Content pane"
I am no doubt missing something very obvious.
I would have searched for this answer but...
    Thanks
    Ronno

    Search is temporarily disabled.

  • What's up with filter bin content search not responding?

Search function (filter bin content) in the project panel doesn't respond. It always dark gray, not light gray. The search function under the media browser tab runs fine. And everything else works fine: CS6, Intel i7; Nvidia GeoF 670. Windows 7/Professional.
FIGURED IT OUT. THIS happens when the clips etc you are working with seem to be imported, but aren't. This is most likely to happen with us rookies who are training ourselves on something like video2brain's terrific Learn by Video series. The gotcha is that you  you can work away on this training without actually importing, thus the filter doesn't work. Just go to assets and import a folder and the filter will light up!

    Hi Mike,
The terms find and process are very general, and can apply to many functions of OS X. Therefore the Search results will be numerous and widespread.
Try using words that are more descriptive of the information you are looking for.
The more terms you use, will narrow the field. See the example below.
I also have noticed that, the "Quote A Phrase" function doesn't work as it used to, unless the phrase is quite lengthly. For example, an entire sentences can sometimes be found.
For a shorter phrase, I have better luck with searching, if I use search terms in this format search++discussions.
    Which returns These Results.
Searching for "I have tried to search this discussion area to find out what is happening" returns This.

  • Movie rental search on iPad

I've searched and searched discussions with no results.... How do I search the iTunes store on my iPad to find JUST movie RENTALS? So often, going thru the movies I'll "view" one only to find that it is not rentable.  I read that on a computer there is a "power search" to narrow results to see just rentals. But it's kinda senseless to have to boot up the computer for this feature. I truly hope it is available on the iPad. How do I narrow my results? Please help!!!!

There may not be a way unless you restore. I did a search and found threads with no real answer like this one:

  • How do you search messages to see if your question has aleady been asked?

I do not see a search field anywhere.

Use the "search discussions' field above the Welcome on the right to see if the question you have in mind has already been asked. Use the "more options" to help restrict your search.
You can also check out the "Help & Terms of Use" on the right or here: http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa

  • What's up with "search"?

I have tried to search this discussion area to find out what is happening with the "search" function in these forums, but don't see a discussion of my problem. If I want to search on a phrase, the instructions tell me to enclose that phrase in quotes, which has worked OK in the past. But not now. If I search using exactly this:
    "find process"
I get a lot of results with the word "find" and the word "process" in them, but not the phrase "find process".
    What is up with this?
    Mike

  • Can't search forum - grr

When I try to type something in the search bar, it's grayed out.

No, what I'm trying to do is search under "Search Discussions" in the Discussions Forum. Not the google bar, not the search bar on the top of the apple page (i.e., not the one next to Downloads, Support, etc), but the one below that on the right, on top of the Welcome sign.
