Search doesn't find apps in iOS 7

Since upgrading my latest 5th Gen iPod touch to iOS 7, spotlight search does not show any apps in results. Applications is definitely ticked in the settings, and I've tried deselecting and then reselecting, but still no apps come up in search results.
Anyone know of a fix beyond a restore?
Many thanks.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Checlk Settings>General>Spotlight Search to ensure the Ap are still checked
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Search doesn't work properly in iOS SMS app

For many many years I've used search in the SMS app to find the name of someone I want to text. So I'll type "Jon" in the search area expecting it to pull up all of the my conversations with people named "Jon" in descending order by date.
This has ALWAYS worked before. Since I switched to iPhone 6 it's stopped working about 50% of the time. It' INFURIATING.
At first, I thought the problem was that I hadn't texted these people on the new phone and somehow that mattered. But it doesn't.
    I've tried everything.
I'm 99.99% sure this is a glitch in the software.
    Can someone offer an explanation/solution???

There is no such thing as private API's working "properly" or not. You cannot use private APIs because it is highly likely they will change. That is the reason they are private.

  • ICal search doesn't find anything

when I test this by creating a future event with a particular word in it, then return to today and search for that word in the little "search" box at top right, it doesn't find that word.
    Why not?

I have also had long standing problems of not being able to search for calendar events, either from within iCal or Spotlight or using mdfind.
None of the suggested solutions worked for me (removing Calendar Cache file, adding and removing folders or drives to the privacy section of Spotlight to re-index, or running mdimport ~/Library/Calendars.
One clue was that mdimport -d2 ~/Library/Calendars would not even look at the individual .ics files within any .calendar/Events directory (no output). I suspected that this was due to LaunchServices not associating these files properly with iCal. My system had previously been upgraded all the way from 10.0 through 10.6.
What finally worked for me was the following, using the Terminal, rebuilding completely the LaunchServices database:
    rm /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices*.csstore
    *defaults delete com.apple.LaunchServices*
    *sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister -kill*
*sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister -R -domain local -domain system -domain user*
(note the capital -R in the previous line.)
This step will take a few minutes to complete, with a message about I/O throttleing
reboot (not sure if that is necessary)
    *mdimport -d2 ~/Library/Calendars*
This last command should now show the successful indexing of all calendar events.
After this search finally worked again for me!

  • Search doesn't find the words water or plants!  What can I do to fix this?

OK, you're not going to believe this.  Search cannot find any events with the words water or plants in them!  Here's the background.  I had multiple calendar entries for "Water Plants".  I deleted one, then deleted the other.  I then entered a new event called "Water Plants."  Search does not find it.  It finds every other event, but not that one.
Now, here comes the even stranger part.  I added the word stargaze in front of the entry--so it reads "Stargaze water plants" -- and it finds the event if I search for stargaze.  In fact, I can add virtually anything in front of water plants and it finds it.  It'll even find "Warm water plants" (search for "warm") but not "water plants" or "water water plants."
I've tried several things.  I  did the home button--power button hold til restart, no change.  I synched via iTunes; no change.  I've deleted the event, switched to a different day, and added it again.  No dice.   I've turned off and on again the Events option in Spotlight Seach setting.  No luck.  I even reordered the search items (putting events at the top of the search or in different places).
It also won't find the event if I search for just "plants".    I just created two additional events:  "Plants" and "Warm water" and it cannot find them if I search for "water" or "plants".  "Wa" "Pl", etc. do not work.  Create "Stargaze" again and I can find it.
Any ideas?  It's as if my having deleted two events deleted the words (and subsets of letters) from the Spotlight Search vocabulary.

Try: Settings>General>Spotlight Search...remove the checks next to every item, then reset your phone: Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release. Now, go back into Settings & turn back on what items you want for Spotlight Search.

  • Search doesn't find Control Panel apps

Don't be conservative and forget about visual navigation!
Be "modern" and start memorizing keyboard shortcuts!
    vjj
    Hi
The visual options are there, but much slower in cases where a keyboard shortcut is available.
    Keyboard:
    1. Press WinKey+ F
    2. Your hands are already on the keyboard, so type your search keyword and see the results.
    Mouse:
    1. Move the cursor to the corner of the screen to display Charms.
    2. Move and click the Search icon.
    3. Move and click the Files icon.
    4. Move your hand from the mouse to the keyboard and type your search keyword.
From a productivity standpoint, keyboard shortcuts are usually much faster.

  • Search doesn't find a particular song...and another problem...

I'm going to keep this on a particular music file because all of this is related to THAT music file:
    MacBook Pro 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB of 1067MHz DDR3 RAM, running OS X 10.9.5
    iTunes 12.0.1.26
    iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1
song file: "I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend" by Scotty McCreery
Before I get into the details, I purchased the song in iTunes, I have deleted the song file completely from both my Mac and my iPhone, and I have re-downloaded the file onto my Mac and the iPhone with the same problem persisting.
Two months ago, I made a 5-second ringer from the song file.  Since then, the original song itself keeps playing the same 5-seconds that was turned into the .m4r file.  I have removed the delimiters in the "options" for the song, changed the .m4r file details so that the file name and descriptors are different from the original file.  The song plays fine on my Mac, but it still plays as the same 5-second clip/ringer on my iPhone.  Oddly, when I use the search bar in iTunes, I can't locate the song using its name, but it shows up if I search for Scotty McCreery.
    Any ideas?

Click the magnifying glass in the search box and untick Search entire library if ticked. This should make searching easier.
Search for Wanna Be Your Friend. Chances are that a different character has been used for the apostrophe, e.g. ’ (right slanted quote) instead of ' (single quote) so what you type at the keyboard doesn't match what's in the tag. (iTunes should cope anyway but that is another story.)
Locate the song on the iPhone and swipe to delete it, then resync.

  • Find apps by ios

How do I find versions of my apps listed by ios version. I had apps that worked fine until I updated them, now they don't work with my iPad iOS 5.1.1. Is there a way to find versions of my apps that are compatible with my old iOS. Don't really want to  buy a new iPad . Thanks

It seems that you've got the 1st Gen iPod Touch.
Unfortunately it supports till iOS 3.1.3, so only those apps which are compatible (iOS 3.1 or later can be installed on the device). Rest of the apps cannot be installed because of the incompatibility! So there isn't any way to install those apps which are not compatible.
You can get the latest iPod Touch 4G which supports almost all possible apps.
I hope this answers your question

  • ICal Search doesn't find my events in the distant future !!!

Here's a bit of a disturbing one: I use iCal (Leopard, so iCal 3.0.8 1287) to keep track of many things- not just a meeting next week or a TO DO - but also for long-term planning. I wanted to enter a reminder for about December 2016 concerning social security - but first wanted to check if I hadn't already done this. I typed social in the iCal search box and everything through 2009 came up.
But, I said, that's a bit strange since I was almost sure I'd put something into iCal already.
OK so then I went to the date 28 August 2017 (shift-cmd-T) and once there, I did the same search - and voila - my event about "social security" from 17 Nov 2016 showed-up in the serach results section!!! (I later tried going to March 2016 and it worked as well - so seems it has to be within a few months / year from the date-- ?!?)
Went back to another date closer to today (19 May 2010) - it did not show up.
For other searches, some events for April 2010 have showed-up; but nothing 3 years in the future.
For some repeating items I get results showing 2008 - 2011, but never further than that if I start the search on today's date. (I get all events from past dates all the time).
Another "workaround" is that if I type the word social into Spotlight, it finds the 17 Nov 2016 event.
Is this a "bug" that iCal cannot find distant future events? Any comments or other people's experience really appreciated. It's not good, this - (like doing a search on an Excel Spreadsheet and only getting recently dated information or something like that. Not good).
    Appreciate any feedback here.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte

Try a new post in the iCal forum. They have more experience with things like this.

  • Search - doesn't find the word entered, doesn't link to the word entered

    Hi all,
Using TCS2 on Windows 7 64-bit - linked FM file to RH. Generating WebHelp (primary layout).
The SEARCH functionality in RH doesn't seem to work terribly well and I'm wondering if I'm just missing something.
For example: I have chapters about creating a New Grant. In the search, i enter the words "new grant" >> in quotations, just like that.
Search returns any topics which have the words NEW or GRANT (I have sub-string enabled; I've tried it with and without this enabled with the same result).
In addition, in the search pannel where the name of the topics containing the words NEW or GRANT are listed, if I click on the topic name, it takes me to the start of the topic, not to the instances of the words NEW or GRANT.
    I have 2 issues:
1- If I search for "new grant" I would expect to only see results with both words, not instances of new, grant, or both. Is this something missing? Or a setting?
2- If I click on the topic name in the search pane, I'd like to be taken to the location within that topic where the found instance of my search words are. Again, is this something missing or a setting?
I should note that I have heard of ZoomSearch and will read the information about it, but I'm hoping that this works within RH and without extraneous tools.
    Thanks!
    Adriana

    Hi folks
Assuming that the topic is "long-ish" and the found term is out of view when you display the topic, it should cause the topic to display where it has been scrolled so the found terms are in view.
Thanks to John Daigle who demonstrated this in the Adobe booth while at a conference.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Forum search doesn't find message but Google does

The forum-search query "icc profiles ilford paper", with the forum "Photoshop Elements" selected, does not find the following message:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1520276#1520276
    Re: ICC Profiles
I just purchased some ILFORD paper and I downloaded and installed the ICC profile into Windows Vista without any problems. My question is when I open my printer properties and select a paper profile my ILFORD ICC profile is not showing. I have a Canon Pro9000 printer.
    However, this Google query does:
icc profiles ilford paper photoshop elements site:forums.adobe.com
Sigh, in general I'm finding it faster and more reliable to use Google to search not only Adobe forums, but the knowledge base and the rest of the Adobe site as well.
Also, the message above is definitely indexed by the forum search engine, since you can retrieve it using the following query:
    subject:"icc profiles" ilford paper
Of course, at the time I was searching, I didn't know which keywords were in the subject and which were in the body.

And this suprises who?  Never had much luck with the Adobe search, either in old or new forum.

  • Spotlight finishes search, doesn't find

I should mention that I just bought a computer and used migration assistant to move all the contents of my computer to the new one via Time Machine restore.
There are files in my documents folder that I KNOW I have. I have triple checked the names. But Spotlight just won't find them. It will find other files related to them such as emails, but not the particular file I'm looking for.
    Any ideas?

Start with http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and my mod to Finder's Find at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725932 for what you can change so you can find stuff excluded by the default structure.

  • RoboHelp11 - Search doesn't find a PDF with word in Title

I am having challenges with some PDFs being found when you search. For example.
Using Sleep as the search word, the PDF document with a title "Sleep Apnea Guideline" should have been found. But it isn't. Many other documents and websites are found but not the one I expected.
And even when I search for Sleep Apnea, the document is not found.
The primary layout is Multiscreen HTML5.
So far I have managed to solve every problem that my client has asked to solve so that they can use RoboHelp as the method to deliver a large number of reference documents and websites. Unfortunately, this one issue my stop everything. I am not able to explain why the document cannot be found.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, there are other PDF documents and they can be found, I made sure that PDFs are not excluded.
Even if it were a scanned document, the file name should be found. I am not sure how I can check if a document was scanned or not. I did a search for sleep while in the PDF and it found the words. Only the topic that this is in displays in the list but the actual PDF file (with sleep apnea in the name) does not list separately.
Here is what I have in the topic:
Here is the baggage file name.
