Search engine choice???

Google obviously is no longer an option for the free thinking world.
So how can I change the search bar? I simply can't find where to switch to alternative options.
Sometimes Apple makes things so easy, I can't figure it out...lol

If you want to fix your Google search to a certain search engine in a specified location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff!
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • Cut and paste on left click mouse doesn't work & manage search engine choices non-existtant

I can no longer cut and paste from any website with the mouse. I have also lost the search engine choices (and the engine itself)
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== new version of firefox was updated to 3.6.6

Sounds like at least the Mouse is going out, open Sustem Preferences>Mouse, change the primary button to the right one, does the right button now work like he left one should?
Just thinking, it could jast as likely be the KB, maybe the control key stuck? Does the Mouse work if you disconnect the KB?

  • I deleted bing as one of my search engine choices, but the bin page still appears when I open a new tab. How do I stop the bing page showing up?

I clicked on the search engine emblem and then I clicked on the "manage search engines" line. I then deleted bing as a search engine option. However when I open a new tab the bing page appears on my screen. How do I stop this from happening?

    This thread has some solutions:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/762043
The most straightforward seems to be: hold Ctrl and Left-Click on the Reload button. You could also Middle-click on the Reload button (e.g. "click" with the mouse wheel, if you have a wheel-mouse.) The thread above also has some other options.
Edit: you could also hold Ctrl and drag a tab next to itself to clone it, another suggestion from the above thread.

  • I cannot set or change my home page or search engine choice and I have delteed and reinstalled Firefox twice

I cannot change or reset my home page or delete the current ones.
I have restored Firefox that didn't work either. So I deleted Firefox and downloaded
a new version. Still the same trouble.
I also cannot change to a new search engine but I can delete the current one or restore it (Google) Google.
    HELP

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
    there for. Also,
check the programs that are on your computer
'''''Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.'''''
Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't
    know what they are.<BR><BR>
'''''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware Troubleshoot Firefox Issues Caused By Malware]'''''<BR><BR><BR>
    '''''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/?src=collection&collection_id=33bf10fa-666d-45a2-9bc9-491ce21671c6 SearchReset]'''''<BR>
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your
search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls
itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • My search engine choices are missing

Where the search bar is located, the only choice I have is "Firefox Help". I had Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, etc.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • How to add a search engine to Chrome on a Mac?

Hey there. I was wondering how to add search.disconnect.me to a search engine choice in Google Chrome on my mac. It looks like the instructions differ, and I have has good expearence inthe past with this help. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am NOT using Safari. It is horrible. Do not ask.

I have never used that search engine but in Chrome go to settings, manage search engines and at the bottom of that panel click on add.

  • FF34. How to stop new search starting when changing Search Enigine choice?

I switch a lot between different search enigines, such as IMDB, Mirrium-webster, Wikipedia, YACY ans so on, and with the prior versions when I chose a new Search Engine from the dropdown list it didn't instantly start a new search. I don;t want a new search commenced until I either press Enter or hit the Search Icon. How do I stop FF from doing this? The reason I don;t like FF doing this is because I don;t want the already searched for terms to be automatically used in a new search engine choice. THAT's the reason I choose to use another search engine previously.

You can revert to the old Search Bar scheme like this.
Open up '''about:config''' ''(typed in the Location Bar)''
Right-click and toggle this preference to '''''false'''''
    '''browser.search.showOneOffButtons'''
    Then restart Firefox.

  • How do I permanently delete all one click search engines from Firefox 34.0.5 except Google?

In previous versions there was a Delete or Remove button to permanently remove Search engine choices. This version has some several default choices that I cannot delete. Is this a feature you removed? Yahoo, Ask and Bing suck.

I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.
If your problem is something else please give more details.

  • Ask becomes my first choice search engine repeatedly. I don't want that one. I have removed it from manage search engines and from Tools Addons. I also get a box in FireFox at the bottom that asks me to reset or choose Ask again. I don't like FFv4 either.

    Must remove Ask search engine.

Dig this cats. Go to your Mozilla start up page. Go to Google home page. Then drag the Google Icon on the left side by the search bar over to the Icon of a home on the upper right side and Google will be restored as your home page. I hate you Ask.com, you were like a leach!

...tag. If you wanted a description and keyword meta tag, you first need to create the correct format...
    <meta name="description" content="this is where the description goes" />
<meta name="keywords" content="keywords go here" /> (ignored by most browsers)
You also MUST reduce the size of that description. Generally speaking one or two sentences is it and formatting is also ignored (all the line breaks). That massive block is being ignored first, because it's not correctly formatted, second even if it was, it is going to present to the search engines as a cramming situation and be ignored.
Your meta tags are not a major factor in how your site will be found. In fact, the keywords meta tag (which it appears you have combined with your description tag) is completely ignored by the major search engines. Your site needs to have keyword rich, relevant html text first and foremost. Without it, you won't be found.
EDIT: Also, being indexed takes time. You may benefit from creating a Google Webmaster Account, but there is no guarantee it will speed up the process. Indexing can take up to a month in some situations. If the site just went up, give it time.
