Search engine hijacked by Yahoo in Safari Mountain Lion?
I installed Mountain Lion these past days and since then, my Safari browser is hijacked by Yahoo, although I did set Google as my default search engine, and even changed DNS to google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I am at a loss - what is happening? Help?

Why is there no Passwords tab in my Safari Mountain Lion Preferences?
I need to remove a stored password from my laptop, but there is no Passwords tab in my Safari Mountain Lion Preferences window. How can I get past this roadblock?
Do you have some other software installed, like a password manager, that is removing the Passwords tab?
Take a look in Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access. Your password may be stored in there. Look in the Login Keychain, Category: Passwords. You can just select the password and delete it.
You could reinstall Safari perhaps to restore the Passwords tab. I don't think you can just download Safari by itself, though. You'd have to reinstall Mountain Lion. Alternatively there's an app called Pacifist that will let you extract the Safari installer package from the ML installer. CharlesSoft — software you always wished someone would write -

Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

It has always been a problem with xfinity defaulting to their own crappy search engine when I type into the Safari url line. It is even worse now with Yosemite. My default on Safari is set to google, but xfinity hijacks it. I have been searching everywhere to find a solution. I simply want to disable the xfinity search engine, but it is not simple! Hoping someone here has had the same problem and was able to fix it. Thanks!
Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
Notes:
1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist. -
Search engine changed to Yahoo?

So, the default search engine on my mother's iPhone 4 has been changed from Google to Yahoo. She doesn't really care that it's been changed, but just out of curiosity, how do you change it back? And how was it changed? The phone hasn't been jailbroken so I'm wondering what happened.

Doubtful this changed by itself. There was likely a prompt when visiting Yahoo's website to change the default search engine to Yahoo that was selected - unless she has never visited Yahoo's website or didn't select a link that took her there. -
Google search engine won't work on Safari Yosemite
Hi there -- Im operating Yosemite 10.10.1 on my Macbook pro. I am unable to change my search engine in Safari. It seems to be stuck on Yahoo, no matter what I select (I already did the preferences --> search engine option)
Please help me. I prefer google and cannot get it to work. (I even tried using bing, gogoduck)

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit. -
I installed FVD Suite because it sounded like it was a good all in one video downloader. WHen installing it asked me if I wanted to switch my search engine to theirs and I selected no. However, once installed it tried on several occasions to hijack my search engine. Luckily I have a search engine protection "BrowserProtect" which blocks any attempt to make changes to my browser settings. After about 2 or 3 days I finally got tired of the hijack attempts and tried to uninstall FVD Suite. At that time I found out that it was also running in several other places on my computer other than just in Firefox. Not sure why or what it was doing, not that skilled, but didn't like the fact that it was in other places and also don't like having my browser constantly under attack from a plug-in.
I just downloaded this yesterday, and I want it removed. I'm having trouble with step #3. I can't find "delete whole line which contain string "flashvideodownloader.org/result.php".

My wife recently added a plugin, epub reader. Upon starting up Firefox the next day she noticed that the default search engine was changed back to Yahoo after we previously fixed this. Furthermore the ability to change search settings was grayed out. After epub reader was removed the problem was solved. I am surprised that I am unable to find anything written to this end about epub reader. Is this a tool promoted and distributed by Yahoo?
Incidentally, how much would each user need to contribute to get mozilla away from Yahoo? Yahoo is, in my opinion, little more than an advertising vehicle, and not a real search engine.I went to Costco today and asked long known VZW Kiosk rep re what phone would he recommend...DX, DI or Fascinate.
Not to my surprise, I was told that DX is the best of those three. Given the fact that all three is the same price $199, it indicates that is has nothing to do with price.
When I acquired him about how Fascinate sales going, rep told me that since that phone went for sale this Thursday, local Costco only sold 10 Fascinate but that not all...7 of them were returned back to Costco by Saturday. That is a 70% return rate which seems to be way too high for the high level smartphone.
At the same time, local Costo VZW kiosk can't keep up with demand of the DX, they are being sold out as soon as they are getting them. I am not advertising for DX here as I am myself briefly owned DX as soon as it was released and its problem with reboot forced me to return it as I didn't want to deal with replacement as I had bad experience in the past two years with VZW replacing my phones every two to three month with replacement phone being worse then the one that is being replaced.
There is no such a thing as a perfect smartphone (sorry to all iPhone fans) but VZW should take a special "achievement" award for screwing up such a wonderful phone as Galaxy S.
I can only hope that either DX with 2.2 will be better than the one with 2.1 or I will wait for what is coming up with HTC in November. -
No autofill or passwords in Safari and Chrome Safari Mountain Lion
After upgrading to Mountain Lion Safari and Crome even Norton Identity safe can't Autofill, use my keychain save passwords or even ask me to save a new password..In Safari I do have check Autofill tab Use name and passwords but nothing , in Chrome I went to advance setings and I have check Ask to save passwords and nothing Norton Identity safe have passwords stored but nothing ..It seems that theres a problem with the system extentions or preferences ......

My brokerage account does not and they tell me it's not them, but an Apple issue. Also, serial numbers on some of my smaller aps have disappeared; at least one vendor told me it was a common Mountain Lion experience.
I like Mountain Lion but I liked autofill and solid app validation even better. This is a turd in the punchbowl. Hard to believe that a company bent on zero flaws would let this slip through.Could it be due to the sandboxing or other security measure? Is Apple becoming like the US government -- so bent on "security" that it can't fulfill its own mission? -
Yahoo Accounts in Mountain Lion
Has anyone had an issue setting up a Yahoo Account in system preferences in Mountain Lion? It constantly rejects the password even though I can login fine on their website. I'm not sure if its anything to do with the domain name being @yahoo.co.uk rather than @yahoo.com. When I leave off the domain it always adds @yahoo.com to the end of it. If I put @yahoo.co.uk it still rejects it.
I have solved it. Thank you for pointing me towards that thread. Unfortunately I had already tried this. The result was that mail recovered only one message from that mailbox. Perhaps it's because I selected only one of the messages in time machine?
To anybody else who needs to recover lost accounts and mail in Mountain Lion, this is what I did to get mine back:
Quit Mail
Enable view library by default by pasting this into terminal: chflags nohidden ~/Library/
Navigate to Users/your-user-name/Library/Mail/
Open time machine and go back to the date your mail was working like it should be
Select V2 from the mail folder then click Restore
When asked "do you want to replace" you should go ahead and replace.
Start Mail - You will be greeted with a Welcome to Mail dialogue
Follow the prompts to start importing your missing mailboxes and settings
Optional - Rebuild your database to catch up with any missing mail by selecting your mailboxes then choosing Rebuild from the Mailbox menu
This fixed it for me - Good luck... -
Safari Mountain Lion text editing glitch
Has anyone else seen problems with the latest Safari on the latest Mountain Lion where text that is being edited causes flashing? I found a YouTube video that demonstrates the problem:

This is very similar to what I'm seeing on my early-2011 MBP running Mountain Lion. It's especially bad in Google Docs, but it seems to happen when editing text in lots of web apps. The creator of the video suggested turning off the Energy Saver setting "Automatic graphics switching." He said that fixes the problem but also drains the battery a lot faster. And I can attest to that. Just during the time I've been typing this message, my battery has gone from 58% to 54%. But I haven't seen any of the text editing glitch.
I never saw this in Lion, so I'm guessing it's a new bug introduced in Mountain Lion, or Safari, or in one of the video drivers used by the early-2011 MBP. So I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if Apple is already aware of it, and if anyone has a better workaround.

ps. Battery is now at 51%.This thread seems to be dealing in the area where I am having a problem. I can easily from Safari email the link to a page but if I choose in the mail side to have it as pdf it simply goes into mail and just sits there and keeps displaying the message loading in the mail message it opens.
If I do it from safari by going to the print menu and selecting from the PDF area of the print dialogue mail pdf it will open a mail message with the pdf showing as an attachment. Similar happens if I choose to send it as a web page. Does not seem to matter on either if I have it set to rich text or text in the mail same behaviour.
Any idea with what might be going on. thanks

Mountain lion safari, mountain lion safari
Have problems to run videos in Youtube in Safari, and Chrome since i made upgrade to Mountain Lion. A black screen apears and a white circle turning. I tried to erase cookies and history. Then works fine one or two times, ang again same problem. I tried to inable and disable HTML5 support en Youtube, again it works 1 or 2 times, and then the same.
Also problema with Facebook, the rest of WEBS working five. Any ideas.More on this. I have this problem in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. After i erased all the cookies an cache files the first time runs ok, buts from there it does not. I found that if i am logged in to Youtube i have the problem, if i log off i can watch the same videos, and if y loggin, i can´t watche them.
It´s not an account problem, because i have twodiferent acccounts and i have the same problem. And in windows i don´t have any problem.
I also unistalled flash, and installed again, and fix rights to the hard disk and have the same thing. Any more sugestions. -
Why cant Safari in Mountain Lion read RSS feeds?
It says "No RSS reader is installe." ***?Some users complained about losing all of their saved RSS feed data from within the Mail client after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Although it’s no longer visible in Mail, past RSS content can be found under User > Library > Mail > V2 > RSS.
The Library folder is accessible under the Go menu in Finder when you hold down the Option key.
