Hello I have lost my search engine tab in the top right hand corner of my Mac Book Pro next to the address bar and only have 'Reader' in its place. Can you help? Thanks

open a new tab - you will see something that looks like a magnifying glass - that means you're on search mode.
give it a shot - see if that works for you.

How do I delete a toolbar that was added by a plugin? Plug-in's been uninstalled, but the toolbar is still there and any new tabs open on their search engine (even though I have Tab Mix set to open tabs on a duplicate page). Help?

Running Firefox on Windows XP3. I installed a plugin from Savevid.com, which they now require. (I've used that site for at least a year with no problem ever.) Everything was fine but it added a toolbar to my browser, and it seems to have reset Firefox somehow so that any new tab opens on "Searchqu", some low-rent search engine. I uninstalled the plug-in altogether, but the toolbar is still there, and I can't make the reset on the search engine go away. I use Tab Mix Plus (also never had this problem before with it), but no matter what I do, the tabs will not open to anything other than searchqu. (Tab Mix has the option to open to a duplicate tab - what it was using BEFORE all this - but changing that no longer has any effect.)
Anyone know how to deal with a problem like this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

When i click on the new tab I dont get the google page but some other search engine, how do I change it back to google?

My home page is the default Google page but when i click on open new tab and it loads some other search engine's site instead. How do I change that back to Google? I've checked for any random add-ons but that doesnt seem to be the problem...

Does that still happen is you disable the RadioBar Toolbar?

Am using Firefox 5.0.1, any new tabs open with a search engine for imvu and when I go to about:config there is no entry for browser.newtab.url that I can modify

I am using Firefox 5.0.1.4205 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack1. My new tabs in Firefox open with a search engine for imvu rather than google as I would prefer. I can't find an answer to my problem so far because when I try the recommended use of about:config and finding browser.newtab.url; it is not listed. Is this version of firefox to old to have that, or is it just missing? What can I do to get my new tabs to open with a Google search engine. This is on my 80 year old father's computer so he is not likely to upgrade browsers as I would on my home computer. Thank you for any help with this.

The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.
Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.

When I open a new tab, how can I get the curson to be on the URL line instead of in a search engine box?

When I open a new tab I almost always I know the URL of where I want to go. Therefore I do not want my cursor to be placed in the box of a search engine upon opening the new tab. I want it to be on the address line.

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

How do I get Firefox to open a blank website when I open a new tab and not this "Bing" search engine page?

Whenever I open a blank tab I'm taken to some page where I can search the web with a search engine called Bing. This isn't a major problem but it causes a LOT of annoyance since the cursor is right in the search engine box and not in the address bar like before. Like I said, not a major problem, just annoying and I'd like it fixed if I can.

I deleted bing as one of my search engine choices, but the bin page still appears when I open a new tab. How do I stop the bing page showing up?

I clicked on the search engine emblem and then I clicked on the "manage search engines" line. I then deleted bing as a search engine option. However when I open a new tab the bing page appears on my screen. How do I stop this from happening?

The most straightforward seems to be: hold Ctrl and Left-Click on the Reload button. You could also Middle-click on the Reload button (e.g. "click" with the mouse wheel, if you have a wheel-mouse.) The thread above also has some other options.
Edit: you could also hold Ctrl and drag a tab next to itself to clone it, another suggestion from the above thread.

Opening up a new tab in Firefox causes it to open with a Bing search box but I don't have Bing as a toolbar, extension, plug-in or default search engine.

I am using Firefox 6.0 with Win 7.After upgrading from Vista to W7 and updating my various programs and drivers I found Bing set as my homepage and default search engine. I changed them both and they are okay now, but new tabs open with a Bing search box. I don't have a Bing toolbar, plug-in or extension, and Bing is no longer my default search engine or homepage. I do have the MS Office Live plug-in. I would like to have my new tabs open up blank.

Open Firefox -> Go to View -> Toolbars -> Chechmark on "Navigation Toolbar"
this will bring back your address bar (where you type links to go to websites :P )

How do I get a new tab to open with my fave search engine?

I have Vista with the updated Firefox. I want my favorite search engine to automatically load when I select a new tab. So far, I can only get a blank page or preset group of tabs to load, not my search engine. I can get this with IE, how can I do this with Firefox? When I updated the Ask&Record toolbar to the Freecorder Community Toolbar, I deselected the changes, hoping this would not change my settings, but it seems that didn't work as expected.

You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.

The search engine used to open selections in a new tab. Doesn't do that anymore. How do I get it back?

I prefer Yahoo search. In previous versions of Firefox, the search engine would pull up the list of possible websites. Clicking on the link would open that website in a new page. It doesn't do that anymore. It simply opens the link forcing me to continually go back and forth instead of just being able to close the new tab if it's not what I'm looking for. All the other versions of firefox used to have a website bar on the top and you used to be able to open a new tab and have multiple websites open at a time and on each one you opened get a firefox symbol/logo and a search engine or website bar however that's no longer the case I don't know if its the new version or not. I used to also be able to do a search and open multiple websites in multiple tabs however that's no longer the case I don't know if its a bug or if its something new with firefox or newer versions.

How do I set new tabs to be blank. Yahoo configured it to show their search engine (against my wishes).

New tabs used to be blank - that's what I want.
However, another user on this computer did a software download. I've removed all the software, but now on firefox, whenever a new tab is opened, it defaults to a yahoo search engine. If I can't get it blank again, I'd rather have the google page.

This will be due to and add-on that was installed.

How do I get rid of PCH search engine from my tabs?

PCH (Publishers Clearing House) Search Engine has taken over my home page when I perform a search in my tabs. How do I get rid of them once and for all. I checked with them and they say they can't remove it.
