Search engines doesnt show up in browser

My blackberry is OS 6. The search engines in my browser doesnt show up when i type something when it should be suggesting search with google or something. Any idea how to get it back to normal?

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already got this sorted, but just in case!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • When i try to use search engine it show an error saying 500 internal server error

    Question
when i try to use search engine it show an error saying 500 internal server error

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Some have been reported to cause this error message, so you can check the settings for Firefox.

  • Default search engine will not show

after the update to 35.0 yesterday my search engines wil not show.
In the add search engines they show, but not on the search bar.
    See images for example.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

hello imans314, the multiple engines should appear once you start typing in the searchbar. if you just hit enter after the search term it will go to your default engine...

  • I've been using firefox for years, and i'm very upset with the 34.0.5 update's changes to the search engine feature.

    hi,
this new search engine is incredibly convoluted, and i put some real thought into why it's bad
the dropdown menu contains more things than it used to. previously only a list with icons and titles and a link to options...now only icons (with no options to include text), a reiteration of your terms and current engine, separators between each icon, and loads of potential results from auto-complete (which i disabled immediately). though taking up less space by forcing icons only, more things were added, giving the user more clutter in less space.
having a permanent default search engine is counterproductive to the feature's previous nature. this was supposed to be there so i can quickly change between websites i'm searching, now it's been equated to the search feature in the address bar (which i am now also unable to change the function of on the fly, as changing the search engine used would also change the address bar's search function - perhaps influenced this change?). it's now faster for me to type the website i want followed by my terms into the address bar, just like when i use chrome. this feature was one of the largest reasons why i preferred firefox over chrome
i would commonly leave my search engine on merriam-webster when writing papers, wikipedia when doing research, etc. and now i have to click which one i want. every time. with every search that isnt default, unless i change my default through the options constantly. this is incredibly tedious. most irritating of all is the inability to use hotkeys to select my search engine, the lack of ctrl+up/down. previously i wouldnt have to use my mouse often at all, which is imperative for laptop users
so yeah, ive put some real thought into this, and i'm very unhappy. this greatly hinders my browsing experience. heard the saying "if its not broken, dont fix it"? ive been using chrome in conjunction with firefox for a few years now, and it's been painful to see mozilla attempt to imitate it. i will be using chrome more often in the absence of this feature (i am right now, even). i'm also upset that i was unable to find a public message boards hosted by mozilla to voice my opinion, and i apologize to whoever customer support employee that (probably didnt) read this - please pass it on to the devs and tell them internet people are angry and said they fucked up. thanks.
and i beg you, please give us the option to revert back to the old interface in future updates, or at least an official extension overriding this awful update. i realize i cant request this really, and yes im upset, yes im sending an angry email - thats because this is something i use often and i am passionate about it
    sincerely,
    pissed

You can use the Tab key to select a search engine on the bottom bar and press Enter to use the search engine to do the search.

In the current Firefox 34 release there is a new "one-off" search bar.
This search bar doesn't show the name of the search engine and a logo.
You can type one letter to make a drop-down list appear where you can see suggestions and see the used search engine and that also has bar at the bottom where you can select other search engines that are enabled via the Search tab in Options/Preferences.
You can use the Tab key to select one of the other available search engines and press the Enter key to search with the selected search engine.
Click the search engine icon and click "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences (positioned between Tabs and Content) to select the default search engine and select which search engines to show in the search bar drop-down list that opens when you start typing search terms.

  • In "Options" I do not have a default search engine and does not let me install one, how do I resolve it?

I don't have any serch engine, and if I want to install it from the web page, i click the "+ Add to Firefox" icon and it doesn't do anything. Also, if I write a web adrees at the adress bar, it doesn't work.
I've already tried to uninstall and install it again, and it doesn't fix it.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
You can delete the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
You can find the full version of the current Firefox 36.0.4 release in all languages and for all operating systems here:
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems caused by extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I did delete the .json files and nothing happend when I restarted firefox.
I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled from a new download. The .json files where not created. The log file shows that the search engines where installed. I opend Help>Troubleshooting information and reset firefox and that helped. All serch engines where ther and work and I can now write URL adresses in the adress box.

  • How can I get rid of Nation as my tool bar search engine.

    Greetings,
I am extremely frustrated with Nation as my search engine on my Safari Web browser. Can someone please help me get rid of it? Here is a screen shot of what I see.  I would really appreciate any support.
    Thank you,
    Balde

Why don't you just go into ~/Library and remove the add-ons, extensions, plists
Look in Preferences, Safari, Application Support, and look turn off 3rd party extensions.
If you don't want to delete, then move them aside.
Also clone your system. CCC does not copy everything and also gives you the freedom to test and try and make any changes you want safely and freely. Sometimes you can't make changes on a live system. And Resetting Safari for one does not remove all the metadata and temp files it keeps.
What other browser are you trying with? Firefox, Chrome, OmniWeb....

  • Reinstall or edit broken search engine setting

The Creative Commons Beta search engine addon seems to be broken for me in Firefox, taking me to a 404 page each time. If I try reinstalling it from the Creative Commons site I get a popup message: "Firefox could not install the search plugin from "http://search.creativecommons.org/ccsearch.xml" because an engine with the same name already exists."
Is there any way to remove this plugin so that I can try reinstalling it? It's not listed under Tools > Addons. The Firefox help pages only tell me how to hide search engines, not how to actually remove them.
I'm using Firefox 34.0.5 under Windows 7, everything apparently up to date.

Hello TimTylor, with CLOSED firefox, seek for an .xml file of the searchplugin in '''searchplugins folder''' inside [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Windows Firefox profile folder] and delete it manually.
(All '''default''' search engines plugins exist in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory#Windows Firefox program folder or Firefox installation directory], but all '''custom''' search engines plugins exist inside firefox profile folder:-))
    thank you

  • Flex store example + deep linking search engine question or LocalShared objects

hi, i wanna make a onlineshop site.
i'm wondering what would be the best approach.
if you use the adobe demo ...
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/flex_store/
+ some other MXML and ActionScript tricks and build a 1 app web.
on a old style website you would have the basic 5 pages + a page for every product.
witch can be easily indexed by a search engine.
as everyone knows, the more pages you have, the greater the chance is that some search engine will show your article/product, depending the keywords of the person is using (+ some other factors).
i know that google can index in SWF files.
but i don't think they will actually execute the application you made and scan all products you offer via the 'Flex Store' demo.
the cool part about 'Flex Store' demo, you user doesn't need to wait for page loads.
i have understood, that local shared object's can only the used by the same application.
i would like to have some input from you guys.
because i think the Flex Store demo rock, especialy the product compare and price search options.
    kind regards

  • When i open the browser, it automatically open a search engine. It does nt go even when i have selected the option"show a blank page" in the settings!

this page search engine website gets automatically opened whenever i open the browser.

Possible solution: if you type ''about:config'' in your address bar and search there for ''browser.startup.homepage'', you can check if it has a strange value and change it to a page you'd like.
