Search field stays highlighted, can't use spacebar, etc... Help!

This is so very annoying.
A lot of the time I can't use the space bar to start or stop tracks because the highlight, (blue), stays locked on the search filed.
No matter where I click in iTunes, (tracks playlists, etc.), the highlight stays there...
If I do a search it stays there. If after a search I choose a track I want, and hit the spacebar, the search clears and is replaced by a space, (just as one might expect.) This has been happening, on and off for a while, and with different versions of Lion. (Pre 10.7.2, etc.)
I say, "on and off," because sometimes when I relaunch iTunes, the highlight will no longer be locked on the search filed, and I can use the spacebar for play/pause.
But then inexplicably it comes back to this same state of keeping the search field highlighted no matter what I do.
Btw, this state may also continue, even after a restart, though typically if I launch and quit enough times it will go away.
However, once highlighted, it will never go away while iTunes is open.
Any ideas?

I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.
If your problem is something else please give more details.

Do you have location services turned on? See Settings > Privacy > Location Services
In any event Maps can be used to obtain directions by supplying the start and end locations after touching "Directions" in the upper left corner.

I just had the same problem. And I found the solution, on Youtube.
The problem is that these ******** at apple designed the battery compartement, the distance between metal contacts too big.
That means the batteries plus or minus poles are not touching the corresponding contacts in the mouses battery compartement.
Most likely the battery doesn't get pushed up to touch the plus contacts.
I used a fingernail to push the battery up and tadaa, the green LED came on.
The guy in the Youtube video just put some folded aluminium foil under the minus poles for bridging the gap.

I'm told that swiping down to the top of the Notes page should reveal a search field for searching Notes. Doesn't work for me. Does this still work in ios 7. If not, how do I search in the Notes app now? Thanks.

Yes, the search field does work in Notes.
You can also use search your entire iPhone (including Notes) for something - this can be very useful
- in any normal apps page put your finger on the screen around the middle of the screen and swipe downwards
- you can then enter something to search for in your entire iPhone
Try resetting your iPhone to get Notes search back,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.

IOS 5.1.1 Music app aborts after two characters entered in search field if Home Sharing in use.

The iOS 5.1.1 Music app search function works fine on my iPad 2 as long as the library being searched is resident on the iPad.
When Home Sharing from my iMac’s iTunes library is used, however, the Music app aborts without explanation after two characters are entered in the search field.
The behavior is always as expected after the first character is entered, but an abort always occurs after the second.
I have tried restarting iTunes on my iMac, and I have done a hard reset on my iPad, but the behavior remains the same.
This is not a minor problem from the user’s perspective, because unless the iTunes library being accessed is very small, it is very hard to find music from the information shown by the Music app on the iPad screen; it would be even worse for an iPhone or iPod touch. Without the search function working on iOS Music app, Home Sharing is of very limited use for me.
In case it is relevant, here is fuller information about the environment:
iMac 27" 2.93 GHz i7 12 GB RAM (Approx. 10 GB free or inactive at time of problem)
OS X 10.7.4
iTunes 10.6.3
iPad 2G 16 GB Wi-Fi only
iOS 5.1.1
Airport Extreme 5G v 7.6.1
Airport Express 802.11n v. 7.6.1 extending network

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department. Her suggestions: change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers. So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue. It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more. Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department. Make them aware of this problem!

I'm new to Mac, after many PCs. I have a new "all in one" I use Hughesnet gen 4 for Internet. I can't use my Mac help menu...I get message that it is not available. I took it back to store and no problem with help menu. I was told by Apple Genius bar that

I lost my only navigation tool bar, so I can only open one window at a time, and can't use google. Help.

I'm not sure what I did, but I right clicked on my google tool bar (which I use since I can't find the Firefox navigation toolbar) and I somehow disabled it. Now I can only use one window at a time, and if I go to a website, I can't go to another without closing my current one so I can go to my homepage, which is google.

If the Menu Bar is hidden then press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

The Insert Bar in hotmail is not working. Can't use Attachment etc. Have Silverlight enabled. Please advise.

The hotmail insert bar not working has started ever since hotmail was upgraded. I can attache files to my gmail account but as I use hotmail regularly, it is inconvenient. Sometimes this problem disappears on its own. And it happens with Firefox as well as IE 6.0. Can some one help out please?

I had the same problem and after much internet searching. It helped when I realized they called that an "insert bar" I was looking for why my attachment option was gone. I found a solution that works. Turn off your Silverlight addon. Tools/Addons/Plugins then Disable. The insert bar is not coming up properly because of this addon. I disabled it and cleared my cache and have had no trouble since.

Can't use Qmaster; need help

I've read all the recent threads here and I've tried everything everyone has suggested but Qmaster is still not working for me. Here's my setup:
* Quad G5 with OS X 10.4.4 with all updates (incl. QT 7.1)
* Intel Mac mini; OS same as above
* Final Cut Studio 5.1 on G5
* Qmaster alone on mini
* connected via switch on same subnet
I tried the quick setup guide and it didn't work. Jobs get processed but only by the controller.
I've tried setting up a manual cluster using Qadministrator but have the same problem: on the mini, the icon in the toolbar flashes green but then goes back to grey and the job is processed on the G5.
I used Media Manager in FCP to copy all the media and the sequence to a network share that the mini had access to (read and write). I then exported the sequence from FCP as a refernce movie to the same location. I specified that Compressor should never copy the source. I also made sure the setting in Compressor didn't require to FCP to be installed on all the nodes.
When that didn't work, I opened the Qmaster preferences and set the cluster storage to be the same network share; I'm not sure if that's neccessary.
I've just about given up with Qmaster. I've tried everything I can think of and tried all the tips here with no luck at all. I'd much appreciate any advice.

I am also new on this thing. I also encountered problems which are not yet answered in this forum. I am continuing to fix it though. On the other hand, I was able to successfully set up my Qmaster. This is what I did:
1. Make sure that FIREWALL is disabled to all computers.
2. Make sure all computers have the application, i.e. Shake, installed.
3. If you have Compressor in your system. Make sure that Apple Qmaster apps have the same version with the Compressor App.
4. Set up one computer as a Cluster controller. Go to it's systems prefs > Apple Qmaster. Enable "Services and Controller Cluster". Make sure you have checked the "Managed" option in the Services. The click "Start Sharing". If you have enabled the sharing before, you may want to reset it first by pressing "Option" button, the "Start Sharing" button will be converted to "Reset Services".
5. Set up your other computers a service nodes. Go to it's systems prefs > Apple Qmaster. Enable "Services Only" option. If you have enabled the sharing before, you may want to reset it first by pressing "Option" button, the "Start Sharing" button will be converted to "Reset Services".
6. Get back to your Computer hosted as a cluster controller. Open Apple Qadministrator. Then create a new cluster. You should be able to see now that names of the service nodes in the "Qmaster Service Browser". Add them, to the Cluster you've just made.
7. When your finished, click on "Apply."
8. Open "Apple Qmaster" application to the computer where you want to submit a job. You should be able to see now the name of the cluster you've made on the "Submit to" field.
9. Add a job, say Shake, by clicking on the sign or drag and drop the shake script in the Apple Qmaster field.
10. Double click on the submitted job. And make sure you have the correct path for your shake application in the shake field. Something like this: /Applications/Shake/shake.app/Contents/MacOS/shake
11. Click "OK".
12. Click "Submit".
13. If you followed it correctly. You should be able to see the processing of your submitted jod in the "Batch Monitor" window.
