Search for mai in gmail and copy text

I am having hard time to copy text. Basically, I need to search for mail in gmail and copy text to be sent as text message or copy as note.
1 In ff and default browser, I can search for mail, but no select option
2 In Nokia messaging there is no option for even search.
When I swipe from left to right, whole scree is moving. Appreciate any help.

For Copy-Pasting from Gmail, I am not aware of the technique of doing the same from a browser. The copy-paste function works well from a text-field to another text-field.
So, I just forward the Gmail message, so that the body of the text appears on a text-filed inside the browser......and then I copy-paste it................without really forwarding the message to anyone

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

Is it possible to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

In our RoboHelp project, there are figures with text labels such as Figure 1, Figure 3-2, etc.
When I search for "Figure 3" I get all pages containing "Figure" and "3", even if I surround it in quotes. Similarly, searching for "3-2" treats the '-' character as a space and searches for all pages containing '3' or '2'.
Is there a way to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

In that case I think the answer is no if you are using the standard search engine. However I believe that Zoom Search does allow this type of searching. Check out this link for further information.

I made pkgbuilds for Maya 8.5 and 2008 (32 & 64)

Hello,
I made these pkgbuilds for my sister to use on our home machines, but figured someone may find them useful. Of course, this assumes you have the official Maya for Linux CD to copy the RPM's from and a license; it just converts Autodesk's stuff into Arch's format.
Update Mon May 17, 2010: I cleaned up the pkgbuilds for Maya 2008 dramatically, and made them safe to use now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing. I posted the new packages (8.5 and 2008 respectively) to AUR here:

IMPORTANT: A couple parts of the BELOW (this does NOT apply to the above pkgbuild in AUR) maya.install file may be considered potentially dangerous and you should look it over before running it. Much of this project was done on zero sleep, so you've been warned. That said, it worked on all 3 computers I intended it to (1 i686, 2 x86_64).
There are 4 packages. Two for maya2008, and two for maya8.5. There's a normal version and split version for each (splits the files identically to the rpm's). I HIGHLY recommend the normal, non-split versions, but everything is there if needed.

The maya page on the wiki suggests doing ln -s /usr/bin/tcsh /bin/csh after tcsh is installed, but I didn't find this necessary iirc. If you have problems with running it, try the following link.

Updated to add libxinerama as a dependency (and re-orphaned). Based on the error, I'm unsure that is the correct course of action, however. As my sister has moved on to a more current version of maya which I don't think has linux support (or if it does, I have no idea where it is), I no longer have the 8.5/2008 cd's to be sure nothing messed up and be sure it works, so it would be appreciated if you could test it or adopt it.
EDIT: On thinking about it, I don't think that is the correct way to do it, so..
An extended question for you:
Apcw appears to be the maya product activation wizard, not the main product. Did you have to install lib32-xinerama or just libxinerama on your x64 to make apcw work? If so, I guess they used a 32 bit activator for the 64 bit program for whatever reason. What happens post-activation with a) both libraries installed b) neither installed c) only libxinerama installed d) only lib32-libxinerama installed ?
I suspect the correct response at this point would be to remove libxinerama as a dependency and put libxinerama or lib32-libxinerama as optdepends (based on architecture) for those who need that to activate it through the wizard.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

Thanks, but it turns out iTunes just needed another 24 hours. Now when I search in iTunes by my name or book title, it comes up!

Preview glitch when searching for words on page and when using text tools to write comments/notes on .pdf slides, why?

When using Preview to access my class notes as .pdf files, I have encountered extremely frustrating glitches when trying to search for specific words or phrases within the .pdf files and when trying to use 'text tools' to write notes on the .pdf slides. Preview did not behave in this manor with Mountain Lion OS. This seems to correlate with my recent upgrade to Mavericks OS.
When using the search function you should be able to type in any number of letters or words and press enter to continually cycle through the highlighted findings that match what you have typed in. Instead it now, typically, stops tracking what I type in after about 3-4 letters and the yellow highlight turns grey. Once it does this if you try to press enter to cycle through what it has found it no longer cycles. It never did this in Mountain Lion using the very same .pdf files I had previously used in the old OS, and it does this despite there being multiple matches for what I am searching.
When clicking 'show edit tool bar' button and then 'text tools' button to be able to free text notes on the .pdf file I have to exit out of the 'text tools' mode to be able to advance to the next page. This is extremely inconveneint and, again, Preview did not do this in Mountain Lion.
These are my two major complaints about Preview that I have discovered so far in my short time using it with the new Mavericks OS.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I've tried using Wondershare PDF Editor as well and wondered that had messed some settings up. Have either of you used that?
If so, how would I revert to a clean version of Preview?

Syncronization: How can i store mail for different accounts remotely, and copy most important mails manually to local folders on two devices?

Hello. I have two devices and two accounts, so what i want is this:
I only want to store mail from both accounts in a remote place and copy most important mails to local folders.
(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
* Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
* Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
* The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
* One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?

The first awkwardness I see is that there's no obvious format in which to store messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the "Local Directory" option in the account in Thunderbird to point at some remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I have never tried this and I'd be nervous about what happens if connection can't be made, or if you happened to access it from two different places simultaneously. The other concern is that mail stores get big, quickly, and you'd be forever uploading and downloading large (multi gigabyte) files. Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder containing many separate messages as one big file, so there's no simple opportunity for incremental changes to be up/down loaded.
The whole idea of Local Folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, so they don't track what happens on servers. I say this to point out the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), versus cached copies of online files ("synchronized"). It's not safe to regard your synchronized folders as permanent.
So, synchronized folders on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird so you do have a local (albeit temporary and transient) copy of messages; this is done mainly to avoid repeatedly downloading messages if you re-read them, and it makes searching faster an more efficient. But these "synchronized" message track what's being done on the server, and so if they are deleted anywhere, all synchronized devices will at some point also see the deleted messages vanishing. (Unless you made a local copy in the Local Folders account.)
I use a gmail account pretty much as you have described; I copy or move messages to that account so they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my works computer. It's free, and it's "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is its privacy. There are other providers (e.g. 1&1/gmx) who don't seem to have the data collection fetish that google thrives on.
It's fairly simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your "cloud account"; even better is to set up forwarding rules on the other accounts' servers, so your messages are automatically sent on and waiting for you when you next login, already in the cloud account.

Placed Files and Copied Text not Appearing in Links Palette

I am working on an annual report.
The report is a booklet. I'm using master text boxes. The report is basically one, long flowing stream of text. Within this there are many articles, divided by headings.
I'm receiving articles for this annual report from many different sources, text within emails, Word documents, etc.
I have the "Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files" checked.
I'm having this issue:
Nothing is appearing in my Links palette.
When I go to File>Place, and place a Word document in as an article within my report, it doesn't appear in the link palette. When I copy text in from a Word document, it doesn't appear in the link palette.
However, when I place the Word document in the annual report within it's own text box, THEN it appears in the links palette.
But I don't want each Word document within it's own text box, I want it to be a part of the other text flow within the report.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Can't InDesign retain the link to the document even if the text is placed within a larger body of text flow?

No. It's not possible to maintain a link to text that's not in its own text frame.
What would happen if you were to edit the text in the frame, and part of the text affected was linked and part was not. What would you expect to happen? Such a workflow isn't possible as far as I know.

Well, first off, if the problem pdf was made from a web page, then the text on that web page probably wasn't built as html text. But that's not your problem. As for the pdf itself, you have a couple options, although neither of them are as good as being able to copy/paste the real text.
1) Use a screengrab (Cmd-Shft-4) of the text you want. This will create a .png file on your desktop of the area you selected. You may be able to insert this into Appleworks, although by nature it will still be a lo-res image, which won't print that great. May still be better than what you got originally. If you can't insert the .png, you can open it in Preview and save it in another format.
2) If available, you could open the problem pdf in Illustrator or Photoshop, see if that works better. Some pdfs, depending on where they originate, can be text-editable when opened in Illustrator (although the fonts used must be installed on your Mac to show up correctly).
Finally, if you like, you could email me the pdf or URL and I could take a look at it to see what I can do to help.

Search for string in paragraph and apply a new character style?

I'm searching for a way to find a specific string in a specific text frame and make it bold. so my thought was to search and then apply a character style from my template doc. I thought this would work, but I went wrong somewhere.

@caseyctg – If you want to apply a character style to a text object in a specific text frame, you could restrict the scope of your script to that specific text frame:
Example with the variable "myTextFrame" you have to define before:
myTextFrame.changeText();
Btw.: you are doing a text search and clearing your GREP find/change preferences at the start of the snippet? Why is that?
You could do a:
app.changeTextPreferences = app.findTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
or:
app.changeTextPreferences = app.findTextPreferences = null;
set before the search and after the change, if you want to be on the safe side…

Another little feature - select and copying text

Another anoying piece of functionality is the way the cut and paste is handled.
If you're in a text converation for example and someone says can you send me so and so's number/email etc then fair enough you jump into contacts find the person and their information is then there for you to see. Why cant you just click on the info you want and copy the info? No you have to go into EDIT mode, then hold your finger on the item for the right bar to appear.
Ok, no worries here, however after clicking say select all the right bar then diasapears ! Why? Logic dictates you've selected the data for a reason. Allow the right hand bar to stay open unless you say otherwise.
First of all though, allow the select to take place with no need to edit the contact.
Yes you can add a .vcf - however people are dumb and dont know what to do with such a file and also you you need to know the persons info your sending is happy for you to send all contact info about them etc.
Small things to make the OS even better :-)
