Search for Resolution

Add Resolution to the Search Criteria. Being able to search for images that are for example, less than 300ppi would be worthwhile. I know you can sort by resolution but only within folders and not mutliple folders.

This is related more to Operating System settings, ie Windows 7 in your case, as the interface is using your OS. You could change the OS settings , or even the screen resolution. A lower resolution will actually give you bigger text.
Changing one of the Firefox preferences also has that effect, I will turn on my other machine and look for the answer as to which one it is.

  • Searching for a list of photos

    From my Aperture library of many tens of thousands of photos, I exported a few thousand low-resolution versions to my wife's computer. From there, she selected a few hundred of those files that she likes. I thought it would be relatively straightforward for me to now recreate an album of the high-res originals in my Aperture library based on her selections. It hasn't been.
    My strategy was to create a Smart Album and search for version names from the list of files she selected. I managed to create a long comma-delimited list of the filenames she selected from my Terminal. (Like this: S7302576, S7302662, etc.) The Aperture manual said that I could text search on multiple criteria by separating with a comma. However, now that I go to try it I see my strategy does not work. The search box interprets each separate version name as an "AND" search rather than an "OR" search. So of course when I search for more than one unique version name I get zero results rather than the group I want. So now I'm back to square one.
    Does anyone have a better suggestion of how I could accomplish this? Anything better than using my eyeballs to manually search thru thousands of photos to recreate her "selection"?
    ps: An extra credit question: Of course my wife had to make this project doubly difficult on me because she went ahead and changed the filenames on several of the photos in her selection, so I have no good idea whatsoever as to how I'd recreate in Aperture an album based on these, other than manually searching with my eyeballs. Any ideas here?
    Many thanks for any help!

    Okay, I searched a little deeper and found a solution to my problem (I guess I should have searched for "horribly tedious"):

    Thank you Ian Wood!
    This worked but was much more difficult to do than it should have been. Come on Apple!
    I'm still open to suggestions on my extra credit question but have little hope ...

  • How can i search for iPhone panoramics in iPhoto 11?

    Hello all,
    Ive imported a lot of photos from my iphones and other devices.
    I need to find a way that I can search for panoramics just as the iPhone seperates them.
    I have tried searching using smart folders, this catches some, however the height and width changes on the iphone photos.
    also the search function does not work as expected.
    eg: Resolution Width - Is less than - 800   brings up most of my panoramics!
    Filters in iPhoto allow you to filter based on resolution, however all iPhone panoramics have a slightly different resolution in both width and height.

    Resolution is DPI
    Is it? Images on your computer don't have DPI, just length and breadth. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
    For more see http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/mythdpi.html
    See what I mean by a vague term?

    So my iphone is about 5 months old, over the last week it has been searching for a network signal. Yesterday i blew inside the sim tray to as i thought there was something stuckin there (stupid i know) but today apple denied replacement due to water damage. theres no water damage and the wet indicator is white. any advice on what i can do?? as i know it hasnt been submerged in water or exposed to water the phone was broken before i blew in it...the phne works fine its just not picking up a network

    Take it back to the Apple store and ask for an explanation as to why they believe there is water damage.  They should be able to show a water sensor that has been affected.
    If still unhappy with the explanation, ask for a manager.
    IF that does not get a satisfactory resolution, contact Apple customer care.

  • [Forum FAQ] The Value drop down list is grayed out when you perform search for Group Policy Objects in GPMC

    Symptom
    On Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2, when you use the Search for Group Policy Objects feature in GPMC, the “Value” field is not populated when you choose “User Configuration” as the Search Item. (See Figure 1.)
    <Figure 1>
    Cause
    The happens because the  Data of the (Default) value of the following Registry Key is not correct.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6}]
    By default the Data is (value not set). (see Figure 2)
    <Figure 2>
    Resolution
    The registry keys under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions] are the Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions. The CSE name of the GUID {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} is
    RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
    1. Locate the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6}]
    2. Take the ownership of this key: Right click on the registry key and choose Permissions option and click the Advanced button on the dialogue window. Then on the Advanced Security Settings dialogue window, click Change button to take the ownership
    of the key for the current logon account and make the current logon account Full Control permission with the registry key. (See Figure 3.)
    <Figure 3>
    3. Change the data of (Default) value from "(value not set)" to
    "RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Component". (See Figure 4)
    <Figure 4>
    4. Once the steps above are completed, the Value drop down list will be populated again when you perform Search in GPMC. (See Figure 5)

  • Searching for Image size

    Hi,
    I want to start a gallery of printed pictures at my home, and to find some decent pictures in my 6500 iPhoto holds, I wanted to make an "intelligent album", that only shows images greater than a minimum resolution... iPhoto of course has this information, but it seems that I cannot search for it...
    Or am I missing something???

    Dirk:
    The feature you want to look for is the pixel dimension, the larger the better. Currently there is no way to sort in iPhoto by that feature or file size. With the Info window open at the bottom left of iPhoto's window, you can click on a photo's thumbnail and see the dimensions and file size.
    There may be a way to do it from the Finder but you would have to be very, very careful to not rename, move any of the files you find in that manner. Or else you'll seriously damage the library.
    Here's how you can find the largest image file in the library.
    1 - open the library package and type Command-F to bring up the search window.
    2 - click on the iPhoto Library title at the top and then set a search with the following criteria:
    a - Kind is image
    b - Size (under other) is greater than X MB - you pick the size.
    This will display all those files that are larger than the size you selected. You can COPY those file to a folder on the desktop or just note their file name to find in iPhoto.
    This is not a convenient way to do what you want but the only way to sort out the largest files. Again DO NOT RENAME or MOVE any files when viewing this way.
    Depending on the size of the prints you want to make I'd first go thru iPhoto and select those pictures you'd like to use. Then check their pixel dimension.
    A 1600 x 1200 image will be able to print a 5.3 inch x 4 inch print at 300 dpi. My current camera creates 2816 x 2112 image files which can print, at 300 dpi, a 9 x 7 inch print. I've gotten good prints at a lesser resolution, i.e. 200 dpi. It all depends on the size and what you expect. Good luck.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Hello guys,My first time in community.my problem is that my SIM card was working ok and from today at the left of the screen up shows that is searching for the sim.I contacted the carrier and the SIM card shows that is working.Any suggestions?

    Hey NicolasZen,
    Thanks for the question and welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are experiencing issues with “No Service” or “Searching” on your iPhone. The following resource provides some great troubleshooting steps that you may wish to try:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4429
    Your iPhone may have one of these symptoms:
    - iPhone displays "No Service" or "Searching" in an area of good coverage
    - iPhone doesn't regain service when returning to an area of coverage
    Resolution
    If you encounter either of the above symptoms on your iPhone, follow these steps to attempt to resolve the issue. Test after each step.
    1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
    2. Turn iPhone off and then on again.
    3. Remove the SIM card and verify that it's a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it isn't damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    4. Check for a carrier-settings update. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. Then tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, iOS will ask you if you want to install it. If Wi-Fi isn't available, connect your device to iTunes.
    5. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    6. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    7. Restore the iPhone.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Is it possible to search for Duplicates in Aperture v3.1

    Hi Guys,
    I'm hoping you guys can help me,
    I'm re-scanning my family photo archive at a much higher resolution,
    and i can't seem to find a way of searching for duplicates of the same image, but at different resolutions.
    i have achieved this in the past using "ExpressionMedia2" (previously called "iViewMediaPro"),
    This program had a command to "Search for Similar",
    with a slider to move from close match to exact match,
    which was pretty accurate, no matter what size the images were.
    I'm tempted to use this program,
    but i'm not sure how Aperture will handle images that have been deleted by another program.
    and how can i strip orphaned previews out of the Aperture Library ?
    I'm new to Aperture, and like it's way of working,
    but, it's very powerful and does have many un-intuitive commands within it
    Hoping you guys can help me,
    billy

    Aperture has no in-library dupe detection. It only has it on import.
    As for other apps deleting files from the Aperture library -- they shouldn't do that. If they are merely deleting a file at the Finder level ( that is referenced into AP), then that image will be marked as Missing in Aperture. You can do a Find for all those your self, or you can make a smart album, then delete at your convenience.

    Lightroom stopped running on Vista 32 windows error message says "Lightroom has stopped running windows is searching for a solution to the problem"...Also some RAW images opened in CS2, Bridge or Lightroom have bands of different colors depending on the image and are unusable. At the same time Lightroom works fine on my laptop running Vista 32.

    Are you looking at the images at 100% resolution? Banding can appear in other enlargements due to rounding errors.

  • Accent insensitive + Search for 2 non consecutive keywords

    Hi,
    In APEX, I have a query the search into a list of TITLE (TIT), with or without accents. I cannot search for 2 non-consecutive word in my title and have the result.

    where
    instr(TRANSLATE(UPPER("TIT"),'ÁÂÈÉÊÍÓÚÜ','AAEEEIOUU'),upper(nvl(:P1_REPORT_SEARCH,"TIT")) ) > 0
    TIT
    Last name of the resolution
    King Henry the Sixth
    The Gazette
    The Comedy of Errors
    La vie enchanté
    Le bêtes et les oiseaux1- If I look for: Last Name_, I have this result:
    TIT
    Last name of the resolution2- If I look for: Last resolution*,
    I have NO RESULTS
    My Question: How to I rewrite my query to have be able to look for 2 keywords non consecutive in the field,

    Hi,
    If you know the order of the keywords (that is, if 'LAST' must come before 'RESOLUTION'):
    WHERE  str  LIKE '%LAST%RESOLUTION%'where str is the string with accents standardized.
    Now, since you're starting with a variable like 'LAST RESOLUTION', you need to convert it to '%LAST%RESOLUTION%', so say
    WHERE  str  LIKE '%' || REPLACE ( :p1_report_search     -- TRANSLATE would work, too
                   || '%'Watch out for the "mother is in chemotherapy" problem.
    That is, if str = 'AMY''S ORDEAL WITH CHEMOTHERAPY", and :p1_report_search = 'MY MOTHER', you'll get a match, because str contains the 2-character sibstring 'MY' and the 6-character substring 'MOTHER' in that order.
    If that's not what you want, then you can search on whiole words only, like this:
    {code}
    WHERE ' ' || REPLACE ( str
              , ' '     -- 1 space ...
              , ' '     -- ... becomes 2 spaces
         || ' ' LIKE '% ' || REPLACE ( :p1_report_search     -- TRANSLATE won't work, now
                        , ' % '     -- spaces before and after wild-card
                   || ' %'
    {code}
    This assumes that all words are delimited by spaces.
    If you want punctuation or other whtiespace (like tabs) to delimit words, that can be done, too.

  • Stuck on "searching for new drivers"

    I've connected a Dymo LabelWriter 450 to the USB port on my Mac (after installing the Dymo software and restarting).
    When I go into Add Printer and select the Dymo driver, I get a message saying "searching for new drivers" and a spinning beachball - and it never returns.
    I searched the forum and there was a previous thread on the "searching for new drivers"problem that was closed without any resolution.

    It would be really helpful if someone came up with a solution to this problem. I get this hang on 'searching for new drivers' with two different HP printers- both recognised by Bonjour but it seems impossible to add them. I only managed to get one of them working (and HP 5850) by installing an opensource HP driver (HPIJS 2.7.10 for Mac) designed originally for Linux users. To get this to work I first had to install foomatic and ghostsript for Mac OS X. See http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
    The second printer is an HP 2570 and this is still causing problems.

  • I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac.  Any suggestions?

    I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility.  Any suggestions?

    Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
    (which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
    If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
    and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
    If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
    If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
    The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
    Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
    Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
    The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
    Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.
