Search Form Validation Message Customization

Hi -
In the Advanced Search form when the user enters 'non-numeric' value in a numeric field the application throws a message like "asdasd in MyNumField is not a number" when the Find button is clicked.
Is it possible to display the field's Label value instead of the name?
Say I have set "Req Quantity" as MyNumField's label how can I display
"asdasd in Req Quantity is not a number"
Thanks in advance for your time,
Saran

Saran,
You can do this by using a custom property on the ViewObject attribute:
- open the ViewObject editor
- select the attribute
- click the "Custom Properties" tab
- enter "PROMPT" as the name and the desired prompt as the value
- click Add button
- click OK

  • Web Form Validation Message Language Setting at Runtime when work in multi lingual environment

    Business Catalyst use the default culture language to display web form validation message.
    When we are in multi lingual environment and not using subdoamin to handle multilingual sites, we found that the validation message did appear in the default culture setting. To make this work, we need to add the below script in our template.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function(){
    var head= document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0];
    var script= document.createElement('script');
    script.src= '/BcJsLang/ValidationFunctions.aspx?lang=FR';
    script.charset = 'utf-8';
    script.type= 'text/javascript';
    head.appendChild(script);
    </script>
    Assuming the template is in french. You can change the lang parameter in the script according to your language.

    After user 1 submits the page, it might not even be committed, so there is no way to have the pending data from user1 seen by user2.
    However, we do have a new feature in ADF 11g TP4 that I plan to blog more about called Auto-Refresh view objects. This feature allows a view object instance in a shared application module to refresh its data when it receives the Oracle 11g database change notification that a row that would affect the results of the query has been changed.
    The minimum requirements in 11g TP4 to experiment with this feature which I just tested are the following:
    1. Must use Database 11g
    2. Database must have its COMPATIBLE parameter set to '11.0.0.0.0' at least
    3. Set the "AutoRefresh" property of the VO to true (on the Tuning panel)
    4. Add an instance of that VO to an application module (e.g. LOVModule)
    5. Configure that LOVModule as an application-level shared AM in the project properties
    6. Define an LOV based on a view accessor that references the shared AM's VO instance
    7. DBA must have performed a 'GRANT CHANGE NOTIFICATION TO YOURUSER'
    8. Build an ADF Form for the VO that defined the LOV above and run the web page
    9. In SQLPlus, go modify a row of the table on which the shared AM VO is based and commit
    When the Database delivers the change notification, the shared AM VO instance will requery itself.
    However that notification does not arrive all the way out to the web page, so you won't see the change until the next time you repaint the list.
    Perhaps there is some way to take it even farther with the active data feature PaKo mentions, but I'm not familiar enough with that myself to say whether it would work for you hear.

  • Localization of form-validation messages in WebDynpro

    Hello all,
    We're trying to solve this issue:
    How to get localized (e.g. Slovak) messages which are result of form validation?
    Situation: there is a context atribute, it's type is a simple type and this attribute is bound to an UI input element. When the form is submitted, every such attribute it's checked against it's simple-type.
    So the question is how to get these messages - when validating automatically - for example:
      "Enter the value in the format 25.11.1987"
    in defined language? Is there a way how to configure/translate them?
    Thanks a lot!!

  • Why is HTML showing in the form validation message?

    Here is what is showing when I use server side form validation.
    <ul><li>You must select a location </li></ul> Go <a href="javascript:history.back()">back</a> and correct the problem.
    Obviously, the HTML tags are not supposed to be shown.  What's going on here?  I just upgraded to CF9 on Linux and this started happening.  Any ideas?

    It's a standard CF server-side form validation and looks like this on the form:
    <input type="hidden" name="somefield_required" value="some field is a required field">
    When they submit the form (and didn't enter something for somefield), the automatic message comes up.  The formatting of the message is messed up on CF9.  I've been using this type of server-side validation for years (probably since CF5) and have never seen this problem before.
    Actually, this works fine on another server (CF 9,0,0,251028) but on CF 9,0,1,274733 it is having this issue.  Both are running CF Enterprise on Linux.
    Error message is supposed to look like this:
    Form entries are incomplete or invalid.
    some field is a required field
    Go back and correct the problem.
    The messed up message looks like this:
    Form entries are incomplete or invalid.
    <ul><li>some field is a required field</li></ul> Go <a href="javascript:history.back()">back</a> and correct the problem.

  • 'No valid search information found' message

    Hi all,
    When clicking on the 'HTML Version' link in the search results, I get a 'No valid search information found' message. This does not happen on all files. It also does not seem to happen with certain file types.
    Anyone ever seen that and/or know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Karsten,
    I haven't noticed any pattern in file types yet. The problem has occurred with .doc, .xls, .html, .pdf, and .ppt files.
    If I perform a search with one string and the problem happens with one of the search results, I can do a search with a different search string, have the same search result come up, and the problem doesn't happen.
    We have SAP going to log in to see if they can figure it out.
    Thanks!

  • Form Validations

    How to perform form validations in ADF. And also can i customize the behaviour of "Required" property of a UIComponent? I dont want alert boxes to be shown Can i change that?

    you might want to think about using one of the popup LOV item types for your employee ID field. popup LOVs are great for cases where you don't want to weigh your page down w/large lists of values. about your validation, if you really want to do it client-side, then javascript's probably the way to go (search google for code). if you do that, though, let the record show that you'd have to fetch your valid values down to your page for your comparison logic, anyhow. i'd consider using a regular htmldb validation for your emp id field. you seemed concerned in your post with the page submission. i'm assuming that's because you didn't want processing to occur unless the validation passes. if that's the case, fear not, it's a simple matter to set your processing to occur only after your validations have passed. check out the available "Process Point"s and "Computation Point"s for htmldb Processes and Computations to see what i mean.
    hope this helps,

  • Error message customization issues

    Hi ppl,
    This is with regards to the issue with customization error messages, I have already gone through the following,but haven't been able to achieve what i want:-
    "Chapter 8.2-8.3" "Business Rules in ADF Business Components".( white paper )
    ADF Faces: How suppress item validation on partial submit ( Frank's blog entry )
    So im extremely dull or have been looking at the wrong place ( or both :( )
    my jdev version :-10.1.3
    My use case is follows, extremely simple form page for creating a user log in along with other information like passwords,description etc.
    I have certain basic validations
    -should contain one numeric
    -must not be less than 8 charecters etc
    i can do the following:-
    make my own customized message bundle and successfully throw it when my custom method validator fails , i do so by using the command:-
    throw new AdminJboException (AdminMsgBundle.USER_ID_NO_SPACE,params);
    where AdminMsgBundle is my customized bundle message class and AdminJboException is a custom class that extends JBo exception ( for conveniance ).
    What i can't do is this :-
    my error logs:-
    JBO-27024: Failed to validate a row with key null of type ........
    User Id cannot contain spaces ( my validation message )
    User ID - JBO-27025: Failed to validate attribute UserId with value .....
    User ID - JBO-27014: Attribute UserId in AdminAppModule.UserViewObj is required
    At validation ( i presume at validateEntity() ), my exception gets thrown ), but before that the JBO-27024 gets thrown (because the data doesnt get validated and hence not stored and hence null), following which the required error is thrown , following which the 27025 and 27014 are thrown. Is there anyway i can suppress the JBO default error messages ONLY when i know for sure that my validation error message has been thrown. I was able to suppress the JBO-27014 exception altogether from the EntityModelImpl ( out of frustration ) , and it worked , but obviously it hampered proper functioning in other areas.
    My question is :--
    Which is the simplest cleanest way of throwing only your customized message and ignoring the default JBO ones when your exception is thrown , and letting things go normally if your customized exception is not thrown... ?
    P.S i can even override the "content" of the message being thrown from 27014 etc, but thats not what i want .
    Thanks in advance !

  • Customizing the advanced search form (showing less parameters)

    Hi,
    can I customize the advanced search form in Portal, for
    instance, to hide some parameters like "item attributes"
    or "item types"?
    I've read the thread at http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?
    id=562712 where it shows how to write a custom advanced search,
    but that requires some programming efort. are there any easier
    alternative?
    many thanks.

    You could try to cpoy the HTML source of the advanced search
    page, copy it in a HTML-portlet or dynamic page, and remove the
    fields you don't want to show.
    I had succes this way with the search portlet and add_groups
    portlet, didn't try the advanced search page though.

  • Form validation from within composer - how to lock down admin forms??

    Hello we have many space admin level users who have the privilege to add content and remove it from their pages as they see fit, however when modifying pages from inside webcenter composer there is no validation on user input / error checking. This causes many problems with users entering things improperly, or even causing bugs (such as with content presenter - if you remove a file from UCM without removing it from the "add a file" template it will break the page).
    So my question is - how do I start adding form validation to all of these screens (such as those little wrenches in composer for a task flow, or customizable layout component)? Is there a way to customize form validation for all admin screens (space - manage all, app - administration, and composer screens)?
    Thanks,
    j

    Here is the custom validation script of your drop-down.
    Make sure you tick the option to commit the selected value immediately:
         var sNewSel = event.value;
         switch (sNewSel) {
           case "ProductNo1":
             this.getField("ItemDescription").value = "blah, blah";
             this.getField("Size").value = "blah, blah";
             this.getField("UnitPrice").value = "blah, blah";
             break;
         case "ProductNo2":
             this.getField("ItemDescription").value = "blah, blah";
             this.getField("Size").value = "blah, blah";
             this.getField("UnitPrice").value = "blah, blah";
             break;
         case "ProductNo3":
            this.getField("ItemDescription").value = "blah, blah";
            this.getField("Size").value = "blah, blah";
             this.getField("UnitPrice").value = "blah, blah";
             break;
         //etc.
    You will need to replace "ProductNoX" in the script with whatever your product numbers are in the drop down.
    You can also read MarkWalsh's script in this thread:

  • Looking for help to develop data search form

    I have built a SQL Query that produces a data set of
    approximately 60,000 records which includes last_names,
    First_names, ID_numbers, Office_Names, Association_Names, and
    Member_Type fields. I have created a table that displays ten
    records at a time (in alphabetical order by last, first name). I
    want to (1) be able to search for a specific person in the dataset,
    and then once I find him/her, (2) be able to click on their
    ID_Number to select it and then go to another page with their
    ID_Number.
    I have not been able to find documentation on conducting
    searches of datasets. I am using classic ASP for server side
    scripting (though I am brand new at this).
    Any assistance you might be able to provide will be most
    gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks very much,

    The search form posts its results to the processor page. The
    processor page
    retrieves those form values from the $_POST array, and uses
    them to
    formulate a new SQL SELECT statement, identical to the old
    one, except with
    the inclusion of the first and last name values from the
    $_POST array in the
    WHERE statement.

  • Is there a way to bypass the form Validation

    I'm getting really upset with the Coldfusion built-in form validation for any HTML formfield ending by _date , _required, _time and so on...
    My application proposes to the users to create some Properties for an object and later on to modify the values for all these properties.
    I've got a piece of code building dynamically some form fields named just like the properties (by a simple cfloop on a DB query getting the property list).
    And a registering page to records the new value in the DB.
    But it crashes onto the classical "
    Form entries are incomplete or invalid.
    I can't control what the users set as property name (one of them was Checklist_required).
    Is there any way to prevent this error by disabling this auto validation ?
    (I'd like to avoid having to rename any field dynamically created and rename any forms variables before registering them on the DB : it's just NO WAY for me to rename the properties created by the users)

    Fober1, that's not how it works.  It's pretty much the ultimate example of the disjoint between how HTML forms work and how the naive CFML Cfform / cfinput design wished they work.
    When a request is being processed by the coldfusion server, it just looks at the list of FORM (POST) variable names (whether it came from cfform or not; URL/GET params are exempt), and for those with certain suffixes (_date, _required, etc.), and it assumes their existence is intended to request validation another field without that suffix.  It doesn't actually know or care whether form submission, nor the HTML rendered in the user's browser, actually came from "cfform" or "cfinput".   The composition of the request that comes in (when a user clicks on "submit", or a hacker uses any tool imaginable) is out of the server's hands.  The cfform code is not used during form submission processing, because the receiving template (the form action="this_one.cfm") doesn't even have to be the same template that has the cfform in it. There could be multiple conflicting cfforms directing users to request the same template on a single site, with or without the validation, even without considering what a whole other person might decide to send to your server.
    The fact that it can work as intended for a typical user is irrelevant, because the purpose of validation is to deal with the atypical situation.  A malicious or merely mischievous user that wanted to circumvent the validation would simply modify a copy of the page to leave out the "validation request" fields.    For the developer to truly validate the input, additional code must be written, making the feature not only inadequate, but a complete waste of time.  There absolutely should be a way to disable it at worst; Ideally, it would be taken out of coldfusion completely.  It's not only useless, it's a security risk, wooing programmers to write code that doesn't do what they think it does.
    The error message it gives isn't so great, either, and it's a pity that it can't show more than one validation message at a time, either.  If more than one input is invalid, you could end up going through one round after another of submit + back button.
    edit: I forgot to add the other important reason that this feature should never have existed: It is a nuisance to everyone else who doesn't want to use it at all, too!  Those suffixes simply couldn't have been a worse choice, colliding with probably thousands of peoples' variable names.  Why not "*_cfval_date" "*_cfval_time" etc?

  • SelectInputDate component in a search form - JDev 10.1.3.0.4

    Cheers to all of you buddies in this valley of tears, have a good day
    I have a table that contains a date column, and a search form to do "query by example" and its date field is a "selectInputDate" with its date chooser.
    The date column in the table is formatted as yyyy-MM-dd (assigned in the underlying BO).
    I assigned a "convertDateTime" with a pattern yyyy-MM-dd to the selectInputDate component.
    At this point, the page works correctly. I select a date and get the appropiate results.
    The problem rised when adding a validator to the "selectInputDate" component.
    I added a "validateDatatimeRange" validator and binded the Maximum and Minimum values to two java.util.Date fields (minDate and maxDate) defined in a session managed bean named depSessionBean. The binding was done using EL as #{depSessionBean.minDate} and #{depSessionBean.maxDate}. The effect is that the date chooser only enables dates within the range (good).
    The problem arises when I click on the "Execute" action button. All I get is a lovely error complaining about date conversions.
    The attached converter returns a String that is correctly used to query the data but the validator expects a java.util.Date (it does not accept String values).
    So, am I missing something? How can I get the converter and validator to work together?
    Thanks a heap for any help.

    Frank,
    Thanks for your reply and yes I'm using BC (I allways forget that important piece of information).
    Unfortunatelly I still have a few doubts:
    - I suppose that assigning a pattern to a date column in a BO is for display purposes and in some cases to have the right conversions in where clauses. In this case, choosing yyyy-MM-dd (that is the default) is a coincidence and in this case, you are right it is superfluous. But suppose we use dd/MM/yyyy. In this case, the date will be rendered with this new pattern. Even more, I suppose that in a query by example, when building the where clause, JDev expects the given date to be a string with that same pattern (dd/MM/yyyy). So, we have the first conclusion: The selected date must be a String with the given pattern. That is why I assigned a converter to the selectInputDate component.
    I did some tests and concluded: The patterns in the BO and in the converter assigned to the selectInputDate component must match or the query won't work.
    The second step is to narrow the date range. The way I found to do it is by assigning a datetime validator to the selectInputDate component. This validator expects java.util.Date values for its min and max dates, and the date chooser works well (by enabling only dates between the given range).
    The problem rises when you submit the form. At validation time you have: a date expressed as a formatted String (needed for the query) and a validator expecting a java.util.Date to perform the validation. So, you get a casting error.
    All this is what I understood and concluded about the situation and, of course I could be completelly wrong.
    If my steps for configuring the search parameters are correct, there must be a way to do the String - Date casting and avoid the error.
    If my approach is wrong then there must be a correct approach for this kind of situation.
    Thanks a lot for your help,

  • Locating Oracle Forms Error Messages File to Load into Table

    I would like to create a procedure to suppress and replace Form errors and messages via ON-ERROR and ON-MESSAGE triggers.
    Is there a file that I can load the ERROR Messages from using SQLLDR?
    I have loaded the Oracle error file, $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/mesg/oraus.msg as identified by Tom Kyte in the following link,
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:13189517973890228983::NO::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID,F4950_P8_CRITERIA:558822941373
    but it did not contain Forms Errors Messages such as:
    FRM-40106: No navigable items in destination block.
    FRM-40202: Field must be entered
    FRM-40401: No changes to save
    FRM-40405: No changes to apply
    etc.
    Any help in getting these error messages in a table, other than typing or copy/paste from Forms online help would be greatly appreciated.
