Search Forum field height - Apple Support Forums

Anyone notice the Search Forum field on this support site is annoyingly
too short in height? When typing into the field, you really can't see
what you are typing. Didn't know where to post this one,
but on all browsers on all my devices: iPhone 4 Safari,
iPad Safari, 3 Macs Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

Hey Everyone,
Firstly, thanks for the replies. I made a mistake.
Mac's are fine. I'm only having his issue on Safari on my mobile devices (iPhone's and iPads). I believe it's the font size that is purposed
In the field just under "more options" section.
Does anyone see what I'm seeing?
I would assume it's on iPods as well.

  • Itunes still does not recognize my cd/dvd writer drive Apple Support Forum

After following the instruction in the Apple Support Forum, by reinstalling iTunes, accessing REGEDIT and removing the lower filter key (the upper filter key was never there to begin with) and rebooting, iTunes will still not recognize either of my cd/dvd rom/writer drives. The drives work perfectly fine for importing and burning to using Real Player and Windows Media Player. I tried the repair function in the control panel for iTunes and also updated the firmware and driver of the cd/dvd roms and still nothing.
Does anyone else have any other ideas? I ran the diagnostic and here is what turned up:

There's some advanced advice in the following post on creating the UpperFilters entry:

With an UpperFilter enty in place, do you get recognition again?

  • How I was able to log into Apple Support Forums (Finally)

To make a long story short I ended up having to make a new Apple ID for several reasons. Fortunately this was fine for me considering I did not have any purchased items or funds still left on my old account.
One thing I haven noticed which is a huge factor when creating an account for Apple with the capabilties of using the forums is that some "registering for Apple ID" web pages differ than others.
The most prominent difference is that one of the register forms offers a "Nickname" text field that is not available of some of the other forms. I feel this is the main culprit as to why users run into several problems when trying to log onto ASC. If you don't have a nickname, how can you possibly post or login?
I am posting this in hope that others can find a solution to why the log in method is not working. I've tried all the other solutions out there that I could find and my own research is what worked for me.
    Best of luck!
    Please see attachments!

As I said: you don't need that name anywhere else - hence it is not offered anywhere else. But you do need it here.
Here is a link to creating an Apple ID for the forums:
    https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/account.html
here is a screenshot of info re. creating an account (not for forums):
    taken from this page:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleIdForIK B?localang=en_US&path=%2F%2Findex.jspa
You can have a separate one for these forums. The "regular" one is for "variety of Apple services" - forums not mentioned.

  • Apple support forum does not go back to thread when logging in

If I want to reply to a post I found on Google that happens to be on the Apple discussions forum, naturally I have to sign in.  OK.  But when I do, I'm taken away to some other spot in the forum instead of back to where I was before I signed in.  ***?  Apple ***** at the Internet and continues to not understand usability on the web.

Correct. It is fact of life, dictated by the Jive software (not made by Apple) that runs these forums.
The workaround is to log in before clicking a link to a specific post or forum.
Why does Apple use Jive? The ASC is the world's second-busiest forum, with more than 9.6 million persons registered, and gets more than 100,000 'hits' a day. No other forum software that can handle that volume, and is compatible with Apple OS X, can be found.

  • Search Path Field Height

We have a large LV developer user base and our users are getting confused by the limitations on the search path fields. The lowercase q really looks like a q (see below), any ideas on how to change this to make it more clear?
    Thanks!
    Using LabVIEW2012 32bit

Ironically, in your message both characters "lowercase g and looks like a q" they both look the same. I understand, looking at the image that you are saying lowercase G and lowercase Q look the same, apparently because the field height clips the image?

  • Apple Support Forums logon

Why is it that Apple doesn't support keychain logon to the forums.
Just how much security do you need for a bunch of questions and answers?

I only had one for this site and I deleted it. What's more, the other site that I go to regularly and now don't have to log on to because I chose to save everything, is no longer in Keychain access because I deleted it, so I don't believe that keychain access has anything to do with me getting on and off that site.
It doesn't make sense that Apple would only give you one chance to save, and then take it away. Other sites have that option up there everytime you go there. I have never seen that option on the Apple Discussion sign in.

  • What happened to the search option in the Apple discussion forum?

It's the simple things that we take for granted. Like the search option. Any info on this?

Go to google search and in the advanced options you can limited your search to just this forum.

  • How to access apple support forum on "This username - is already taken, please choose another. Another has been provided" message?

Sorry I could not find a better user forum for this question....
See screenshots: This username "*" is already taken, please choose another. Another has been provided.
If I enter a different forum username it tells me that the account is already associated with another user ID (I suspect the first one I tried).
How am I supposed to continue?

you'll see that I am prevented from choosing another name.
Ah! But no, that's not a bug, either. Once you create a user account, that name is locked. You can't change it. For this particular name, all you can do is ignore it. It will eventually be archived off the servers, never to be seen again.
To start over, you have to fool your web browser into believing you've never been here before. Launch Safari, but do not navigate to these forums. Open Safari's preferences and click on the Privacy tab. Where it says Cookies and other website data, click on the Details button. The trouble is figuring out which one to remove. I think it's apple.com . Try removing that cookie and then come here. If you got rid of the right one, you'll be able to create a new account.

  • Apple Discussion Forums - IE works when Safari doesn't

I've been browsing around here and discovered that this sort of thing - that is, these forums not loading in Safari - has already been mentioned a few times. However, it usually seems to get put down to the server being down or the like; what I haven't seen anybody mention is what I experience on my computer, which is that while Safari completely refuses to load these forums ("Safari can’t open the page “http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=c149&search=Go&q=avi”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)") Internet Explorer handles them fine. I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that almost the only site I ever need to resort to IE for is the Apple Support Forums!
I have tried clearing Safari's cache, as is suggested when I click on the question mark at the bottom of the error message, but that does nothing. I understand that there are sometimes times of the day when the forums have issues, but given that IE (of all things!) handles them fine at the same time, on the same computer, I'm sure that's not the problem.
I did consider posting this in the Safari category, but I've come to the conclusion that it must the forums that are at fault.
Well, whatever the problem is, the irony is killing me!
iMac G5 (Power PC)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

At times, removing the Apple cookies and restarting Safari is one way to resolve the "slowness" issue. I agree, this situation is very ironic.

  • What forum is for Apple IDs?

Sorry for posting here, but there does not appear to be a forum regarding Apple accounts.
I need info on how to access the list of registered software on my Apple account. The web site lets you change your info and register products, but I can't find a listing of what I've registered and there is no forum discussion group for dealing with such issues.
    Any suggestions?

  • Apple Support and Discussions

As a Mac user, I usually do my own support. When I do have a problem, I search the web for others that are working through the problem. Very often threads in Apple Discussions appear in the results. What I find is that problems can be discussed for months before any resolution. (I had a QuickTime "no sound" problem in this category that involved downgrading QT and a number of goofy steps before a workable update appeared.)
I realize this is a "users helping users" forum rather than a support forum (by the way that is NOT obvious) but Apple would do well to have someone skimming the boards regularly for issues. I think it can head off a critical mass of disgruntled users and Apple can certainly benefit.
I see Apple updates reinforcing an agile company image but there are some blind spots. Discussions can shed light and keep you agile.
    Paul

I think you might want to read one of the header's user tips:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1771212
What you find out is that this is a hospital ward. Sometimes skewed by people who simply try every troubleshooting tip in the book. That's the problem when they try and read one of the long threadjacked threads on the board looking for a solution. Furthermore when you buy a Mac, you have 90 days for any Apple software support, 1 year for any Apple hardware support, and within that first year, you can buy AppleCare for your Mac to extend both to 3 years from date of computer's purchase. The more people who open case numbers for a particular issue under AppleCare, the more likely Apple will see a "prevalent" issue as a real one. It is very difficult to discern from long threads, how many posts are from the same person, versus multiple people. Apple also has a bug reporter system for free online developers from http://developer.apple.com/ and http://bugreporter.apple.com/

  • Apple support disscussions - where has this forum gone?

Developers - (if you are still there)
does anybody know where the apple support discussions is now held.  I found this forum really useful for learning about iPhone programming.
Im not sure about this new setup.
    james

I followed the instructions you directed me to, and after moving those two fles to the desktop, i go to system pref>network>assis me>assistant.
Going through that, i create a new location, than select 'I use airport to connect to the internet wirelessly'. I select the network that is ours, adn click connect. It runs for a bit, than the error message pops up saying "UNABLE TO ESTABLISH A NETWORK CONNECTION. Your computer could not connect to the internet. Click OK to go back and change your network settings and try again."
I push OK, go back try again, it does nothing. I quit, go under aurport settings, and instead of having it as automatic, i select preferred networks, and select mine as the only network under that.
I restart the computer, same problem happens. Open a web browser, says i am not connected, open my system prefs, and it reads: "AirPort is connected to the network xxxx. Aurport has a self-assigned IP Address and may not be able to connect to the internet."
I have full range on my router, the aurport is connected to the network, i just dont get an IP.
I go and renew the DHCP Lease, and it does nothing. Beside the IP Address, it reads a set of numbers which indicate its self assigned: "169.254.xxx.xxx"
To make things more confusing now, once i reset my system preferences, my roomate, who is running a mac, and couldnt connect to the internet at the same time i couldnt, could now connect. What is the next step for me to do?
Its not the router, because i have tried multiple routers. Its not the computer, because i did have a connection to this network prior to about 5 days ago, and i can still connect to the internet wirelessly at different locations. I reinstalled my os, updated it, nothing. I reset my system preferences and again nothing.
This is becoming a major problem, as i need this connection to do school work.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

You need to take it up with the developer first. If they don't fix things, you need to open the issue with iTunes support.
Going by the threads here, not a day goes by that someone doesn't have an issue with in app purchases in Clash of Clans.
