Search function in Help not working in any application

The Search function is not working in any application's Help. Upon entering the terms I need help for I get a hang at "Searching..." but never any result. This problem started sometime in the last year or so. Prior to that the search function in Help worked fine. My network connectivity is excellent.
I recently reinstalled OS X 10.5 but I'm sure the problem existed before that and persisted after the reinstall.
The reinstall was due to upgrading to 10.7 and only then finding that I had lost needed functionality, but I don't think this has anything to do with the current problem. All other aspects of Help seem to be working fine
I don't find any reference to this problem anywhere so I'm hoping someone can help with my Help(!) problem. Thanks in advance.

Try running your Leopard install disk again, as well as the 10.5.8 combo updater. This might reinstall any 'missing bits'.
You can do this without deleting the hard drive, just install straight over your existing system, but close all applications and external devices first.

Facetime Camera suddenly not working on any applications. Won't even show up/be recognzied.

I own a 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina, Mid 2012
and recently when I try opening facetime, photobooth, or even skype my mac won't recognize the camera. It acts as if I don't have a camera.
This issue was going on with Mountain Lion, so I installed Mavericks. Still not working.
I've already tried resetting my default keychain, updating to Mavericks, typing in some stuff in the terminal, restarted and shut down MULTIPLE times, going to disk utility and verifying/reparing utilities and the disk, nothing seems to work.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

File Open Does Not Work In Any Applications

Installed 10.5 into two computers, a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro. Lots of problems, many of which have been discussed here. Got the Mac Pro sort of working but the MacBook Pro WILL NOT open any files. Go to *File Open* in any application and it either does nothing or just scrolls down and then immediately scrolls closed.
Anyone else have this problem, and hopefully found a solution?

Search function of tags not working when folders renamed outside of PSE

hi guys
have PSE 9 on MAC.
when saving foto files at another place and doing so outside of the program PSE, we all know already that PSE displays them in the organizer with a "?". This fact is not at all comfortable but, thanks to the link PSE makes, it still displays them.
however, when I want PSE to display all fotos tagged with a certain tag, let's say "house", PSE does not display ANYTHING!
so how can I make PSE to show the result when searching for all tagges fotos with "house" - for those fotos that are saved now at another place?
honestly, "the other place" is a bare renamed folder, so still at the same place somehwat.
I definitely don't want to tag all my fotos again. But I want PSE to show the fotos marked with example "house"
I've tried to copy - paste, from old to new folder. No success.
I've imported the fotos from the new folder. It works, but they are without tag! and sometimes it says an error message even, saying, the content inside is already in this catalogue.

File->Reconnect is the solution to your problem.
In the future, you might want to consider using a workflow that does NOT involve renaming/moving folders or photos outside of PSE. In fact, I think such a workflow would be mandatory to avoid problems and extra work.
If you absolutely MUST rename or move photos or folders, do so from within PSE, in the Folder Location View...but I would still recommend not having a workflow involving renaming and moving stuff from here to there; I would recommend organizing by keywords and captions; and putting photos into default named folders (capture date) and leaving them there un-moved and un-renamed.

'Check Spelling While Typing' does not work for any applications

Earlier I had a problem with misspelled words underlined but when I right-click it does not offer spelling suggestions.
Now, none of my applications underline misspelled words. Even if I select the option to "Check Spelling While Typing" it does not change anything. This applies to all applications (Mail, TextEdit, EverNote, Firefox, etc).

Update: Inexplicably the underline for misspelled words now works but now when I right-click for corrections it shows 'No Guesses Found' for any word.

i will have to read these links closer but what i meant to say is that the hard drive space that was being taken up seemed like it suddenly jumped way up because i had just gotten through a process in the last month where i am storing all my My Documents data on my Mac Pro. i am doing this in order to decide whether i should just keep it ALL on my Mac Pro and use ChronoSync to sync /some/ of it to my MBP.
so if i look in the Documents folder on my Mac Pro i have a ton of folders that i have created with a ton of data. if i look in the Documents folder on my MBP there are NO folders that have data in them that i created. there are other folders such as folders that various software created but what i mean to point out is that there was a LOT of available space on my HD until recently.
i am wondering if there is some way that running the Mail re-index (it then ran some kind of "Importing" routine) or by syncing my Photostream to the MBP caused a huge jump in data on this drive. if it is the photostream sync i can just take this off or see if it will sync more selectively. if it is something to do with mac mail jumping in size i am not sure why this would happen or what to do about it.
does that question make sense?
i mean, before i did these two operations my recollection is that i would have had 130 GB on the hard drive (really just guessing here) and now there is like 218 GB on the hard drive and i don't know where all this came from...

The Help Tab (OSX ML) where you search for something does not work

If I click "Help" and then search "expand" it will show me where expand is. But in CS6 when I clicked it the command would go through and pull up the page to expand pixels. Instead, I have to go find it. It works in every other Adobe app I use except Photoshop CC.

Thanks a lot for your help (and sorry for not having answered quicker, but my boss gave me a more urgent task last week...).
Anyway, I did what you suggested (re-importing into a brand new project), and then the search for synonyms really worked! But, being a sceptical person, I did the same with another project, and with that one, it did not work. So, what I did next was compare all the settings of these two projects, and I found a difference.
RH8 now contains a function that's called 'Teilzeichenfolgensuche' (I don't know the English expression, but have a look at the attached picture: this is a screen shot from the second page when I generate WebHelp). After having done several tests, I came to the following conclusions:
Search for synonyms does not work in HTML-Help, but it does work in WebHelp (and maybe others, but they are not relevant for me, so I did not test them);
Search for synonyms does only work, when the function 'Teilzeichenfolgensuche' is NOT activated.
Could maybe somebody test this, too, and post here whether my conclusions are really correct?
Btw: This fact is not mentioned in the RH-Manual; actually, this function 'Teilzeichenfolgensuche' is not even mentioned there (at least not in the German edition)!!!

You do have it turned on ins settings>Privacy, right?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.
You can confirm that by going to place with a know located router like Starbucks or McDonalds

I think you will need to restore to the itunes computer you normally sync to.
So you'll have to wait until you come back from your trip.

Download the yahoo email app, if you already deleted and reinstalled the email account and still have issue.
This is a known issue with Yahoo email account.
