Search functionality in portal

Hi,
We are implementing SAP EP 7.0 for our customer...this portal is only for top level management which contain only BW(3.5) reports as iviews ...these iviews are developed using Visual Composer and some of them are standard business packages(like sales analysis,financial analysis etc)...Now our customer wants us to implement the "search Functionality" in the portal...where the user can search for the report iviews in the portal....
Can any one throw light on whether it is possible to implement the search functionality?...If yes what does it take for the developer to implement?...Any documents or links will be really thankful...

The APIs for searching are reasonably well documented, but why not make use of the page personalization capabilities of the portal?

Basic Search functionality for KM documents folder without TREX

Hi Knowldge Management Guru's,
I am using default KM content management repository no external repository i have folders and sub folders and documents ( word, html, pdf, excel).I have enabled search button in tool area.
What are the prerequisites to search documents in Content management /documents folder
1. Do we need TREX is it must and mandatory for searching
Does enterprise portal provide basic/default search functionality without integrating TREX or external/third party search engines.
Please provide your inputs

if u r looking to search unstructred document ( km document) i dont think u have any other option other than using TREX. Check this link

Search functionality in 9.0.2

Hello,
could someone who knows confirm my suspicions on how search works in portal 9.0.2?
1 Search will not find content in portlets (for instance page portlets).
2 If Search Results Type in a custom search portlet is set to Pages, the search will be made in page display name, page keywords and page description. It will not search for item content.
3 It is not possible to search for items but get found item's page links as results.
Number two is unbelievable. "if Result Type is page, search for pages". One would think I was selecting how I wanted the result, not what I want to look for...
A recent PDF shows a (possible, haven't tried it) way to work around number 3 above. Make custom item types (for all types you will want to search for, thank you) where the associated function display its page link when it's(believed to be) displayed in a search result.
My conclusion is: if you have pages with built-in items, there is no way to search for items but get the result as a list of page links.
I hope I'm wrong. If I'm righ I'll save you my comments.
How has these issues changed with 9.0.4?

That is correct. The content of portlets may be different for each user so indexing this content can provide misleading results. However, if you only need to index public content, Oracle Ultrasearch can be used to index all portal content, including that displayed through portlets.

Searching for pages checks the following pieces of metadata:
page name & display name
keywords
description
all custom text attributes associated with the page type
all custom url attributes associated with the page type
all custom file attributes associated with the page type
Items will not be searched but again, its possible to index the entire page using Ultrasearch.

This is incorrect. The custom search portlet allows the administrator to select the attributes that should be displayed from the search portlet's "edit-defaults" screens. From here, its possible to select the "page" attribute to be displayed with the search results. This means that you can search for items and then click on a link to go to the page on which the item resides.
Various improvements have been made for 9.0.4, including better control over the display of page results.

Searching ifs via portal thru use of URL ?

I was recently told by my customer that someone from Oracle told
him you could create some sort of a URL inside portal to ifs
that would allow you to search ifs via portal.
I am not aware of anything like this. Can anyone out there shed
some light on this? Can this be done?

You can open a browser with the function module CALL_BROWSER. Giving the BSP URL, you will be able to call your BSP application from ABAP code.
Alternatively, you can embed your BSP application within SAPgui with an HTML control. Please check demo program CNHTTST1 for a code sample.

OWC PS5 - Content Presenter - Search functionality in custom list template

We have created a custom list template for displaying the contents and use this custom list template in the content presenter task flow.
We would need to implement Search functionality in the custom template.
Any pointers on how to achieve this?

Extended Value Selector (EVS) and search function

Hi,
the tutorial "Value Help in Web Dynpro Applications" mentions that the EVS provides a search function. What does the search function look like? Does it work in such a way that only values beginning/containing a predefined String are displayed? How could one realise such a behaviour?

nice to meet you here The filtering functionality of the EVS UI is based on a simple "starts with"-criterion. It does not support regular expressions. In addition it does not display those displaytexts which contain the given string as a substring.

Queries regarding search functionality.

Hi All, We have to implement Search functionality for a custom webcenter portal.
Customer does not have SES product so we are trying to see how we can use search without SES.
I see in dev guide we have two options for search
■ Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) adapter
■ Oracle WebCenter Portal live search adapters
We want to use second one 'Oracle WebCenter Portal live search adapters'.
Here are my doubts regarding this
1. I believe it can search for UCM documents. Is there any way to specify that certain kind of documents should not appear in search. For example customer mainly using content presenter and sitestudio to contribute content. CDF files are pure xml files and we don't want them to appear in search.
2. At designtime our pages are almost blank. They only have PageCustomizable and PanelCustomizable components. Sometime a content presenter task-flow. End user is contributing to pages at runtime. Actual content of page reside in UCM in form of CDF files. Now if user performs a search, it should search for pages with content and it should list down the page. Is it possible? I believe it should be the default behavior. Right?
3. We have some links, discussion, wiki etc also, I believe 'live search adapter' will be able to search those as well.
4. There is some data that we maintain in our custom tables. Is there any way we can customize search to look into those tables as well.

Search-Function without TREX server ?

I want to use the Search-Function but we don't have a TREX server. Can I nevertheless use it? Which iView can I take? And which settings do I need?

No unfortunately you cannot - TREX is required for search functionality and as such there is nothing else built into Portal/CM that will do the same thing.
I would guess it is not worth your effort trying to do your own thing !!!!

How to get the Wiki search functionality working?

Another Wiki question regarding the 7.1u1 Portal wiki functionality: What is necessary to get the wiki search functionality working? Right now when using the wiki search page all it does is return to the search form, no errors but no hits either. I guess some additional administrative work is needed to get search working?

haven't touched anything except for the wiki template jsps to change the design. it is a linux rh4 install. there are no communities on that server (yet), just the wiki portlet in a tab so far. is the wiki search dependent on the portal search server or totally separate (ie self contained wiki search)? any additional services or such that need to be started for it to work?

Problem in adding Search function in HeadMast.

It shows Search within the MastHead Area.
I tried doing this by manually adding the code of Search into MastHead using MastHead.par file (in Eclipse 2.1) but it gives me an error saying " No security zone - access is denied: ". I really cannot make out the differnce where I am exactly goind wrong.
Can anyone please help me sort this.

I am new into Portal development programming, so am trying differnet options:
Another experimet I was just checking was:
1> I imported the existing Headmast.par & ToolArea.par file.
2> Integrated both the methods together into HeadMast.par file.
The Help, Personlize& LogOut options that we see on right side of MastHead is into a table.
I want to insert the ToolArea below it (within the HeadMast), such that the search option appears below it.
3> Integrated the Portalapp.xml file, added Property tags from Search Portalapp.xml file into HeadMast Portalapp.xml file.
4> To test whether its possible to add anything below the Help, Personalize & LogOut table, I have successfully added a text to check the results. I need to replace this text with the Search textbox & button.
Can it be possible this way...?
Am I exploring different options.
Have I missed anything in the above steps??

Hiding the advanced search functionality

If you want to do that for the out of the box framework page.
1. Goto Cotent Admin -> PCD
2. navigate to Content provided by SAP -> eND USER CONTENT -> STANDARD PORTAL USERS -> DEFAULT FRAMEWORK PAGE
3. OPEN DEFAULT FRAMEWORK PAGE --> TOOL AREA
4. DISABLE SEARCH OPTION IN THE PROPERTIES

Outlook 2013 Search Functions?

The search function for my outlook 2013 works sporadically or not at all, or sometimes only when I click on the search "more" (even when the email I am searching for is in my inbox and received within a couple days. So in other words it normally
bring up the results in chronological order, but it does not do that necessarily in this case). Also the search function does not work while searching contacts as well. I use and exchange account and when accessing the information from the web access portal
and my phone there is no issue with searching.
Are there settings to make the search function work properly?
Please advise.
I have set up a separate profile to test settings and fiddle with the back end, but I am not able to search my emails/contacts properly.

Build customized search functionality

Hi,
I have atleast 1000 documents to be uploaded into the portal content areas.I have to build the customized search functionality for the user to be able to search for docs in specified categories.
How do I go abt that.

Items should indeed appear on category page soley because you have set the the category of the item. You can't upload an item to the category page directly.
So if you've set the category of the item and it's not on the category page we need to think about why that might be happening. The first possibility is that they portlets on the category page (since category pages are just pages with custom search portlets automatically showing the results). By default the portlets will be cached in webcache. However the cache headers should mean that the portlets are only cached for 10 minutes. That would be the first thing to consider I think.

IPhone 5s Voice memo to mp3. Now music on iPhone. Won't play from search function.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ? Anybody help please. Thanks

iWeb has no knowledge of the internal speaker on your iPhone.
