Search Highlighting & Back Button

I am using Oracle Help for the first time and have some basic questions. We are using the default ICE browser.
1/ Search strings aren't highlighted. Can they be?
2/ The Back button always returns you to the previous page even when you last selected a link that took you elsewhere in the same page. Can the Back buttons return you to the previous position in the same page?

We've got existing enhancement requests logged for both of
your requests (which I agree are very useful). We recently
added the Find dialog to the Help Topic Window so that you
can search within an HTML topic, but search terms are not
automatically highlighted when opening a topic from the
Search tab of the Help Navigator window.
Also, the reason that the back button does not track
same page links, is that the version of the ICE Browser
we are using doesn't notify OHJ when someone clicks a
same page link. Hopefully, when we upgrade to a later
version we can implement this feature.

From www.google.com, search for something and following any result link. Hit the Back button to return back to the google result page and it's always a blank page, annoying. Anyone else getting same problem?

Same thing with my 64GB WIFI/3G iPad after ios 4.2.1 update. However, with me, it is seemingly on a random basis 20-30% of the time.
Google search---> search results----> view one of the search results----> back button----> EMPTY PAGE.
However, hitting the reload icon in URL bar on the empty page brings back search results, so livable.

  • Safari back button and page jump

Hi. I'm using Safari 6.0.3 on MacBook Air.
When I click the back button the previous page is reloaded fine. However, Safari does not jump down to the place on the page I was last. This is tiresome when dealing with long lists (e.g., ebay results pages). All other browsers I use do this. Any help? Thanks!

  • Why do google search results reset to match the search bar terms when i use the back button?

Since the update to FF 23, the list of Google search results clears and the on-page search box is reset to match the address bar search box when I hit the back button to re-view the results list after checking a result.
To see this issue for yourself, set your search provider to Google and make sure Instant is on. Type a search term into the search bar and press enter. A google page appears with your results list. Now, change your search terms or conduct a new search directly from the google page (without using the FF search bar). Click on the first result in the search list, then click the back button to return to the search results so you can check a differest result. As FF goes back to the google page, it will reset the on-page search box to match the FF search bar (although you were no longer on this search) and all search results will disappear, replaced by the message "Press enter to search". Pressing enter reconducts your old search, not the one you were on.
This is incredibly maddening since searching for something requires frequent use of the back button to check through the list of search results, and then frequently trying the search again with slightly different terms. Although it sounds like a Google issue, it did not occur on the old firefox and has me wanting to revert. I tried to revert to the old search function via the "keyword search" addon, but this did not fix my issue. Is there a way to force FF to go back to the actual google search page I was just on instead of conducting a new google search from the FF search box when I hit the back button?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

  • The browser back button is not working correctly when using the search funtion in ProBoards forums. Is there a known issue with ProBoards & FF?

I have submitted a bug report to ProBoards, but they cannot duplicate the problem I am having, so I am submitting this here in hopes you can find a solution.
At ProBoards Support and another PB forum while doing searches I found this problem, which continues with repeated testing over the past week or so:
    url: http://support.proboards.com/search
    1. enter perameters for the search (posts only by staff for the last 2 days)
    2. choose one of those post results & click on it (choose a post on page 14 and not on page 1 of the results)
    3. using the browser back button, attempt to return to the previous page of search results
    4. rather than being taken back to the search results with my parameters, the search parameters have been removed and the page show 1000 results of posts by everybody.
I have tested this over and over again, disabling plugins, and nothing seems to alter the malfunctioning of the back button when I am doing this search function at ProBoards.
I have tested it in Internet Explorer and find that in IE the browser back button works properly with ProBoards searches. I always get the result I expect, so it's a problem with how FF interfaces with ProBoards, I think.

Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

  • When I click on a result of a Google search and then go that web site, the Back button on the toolbar is grayed out and I cannot return to the search results.

When using FF3.6 and making a Google search, when I click on a result and then go that web site, the Back button on the toolbar is grayed out and I cannot return to the search results without going to History. This does not happen all the time; about 1/2 of the time.
This problem is not limited to Google, but occurs with other sites as well.

If you are talking about searches from - http://www.google.com/ - are you logged into a Google account all the time? If so, check your "Search Settings" from the "gear" in the upper-right corner of that Google search page and see if you have '''Open search results in a new browser window.''' check-marked, at the bottom of that preferences page. When that is check-marked and you have Tab options in Firefox set to '''Open new windows in a new tab instead''', you will get search results always opening in a new tab instead of the same tab. As to why that works different for "sponsored links" I don't know, I haven't seen the "sponsored links" for years now, I have a GM script that blocks those advertisements.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.

  • Firefox was a good, but now it's slow and when I search google I have to refresh the page when I click the back button. This is driving me to other browsers.

When searching in goole, If I click on a link and want to go back a page firefox does not load the previous google search without refreshing the page. Because I use google frequently this is very annoying. Firefox has also been freezing and crashing most frequently of any of the other browsers that I have been driven to use. I'm not sure why I should keep it on my computer at this point.

Regarding the Google results page blanking out when you go back, this occurs when using a combination of three settings, which may be fairly common:
    * Zoom level higher than two steps (120%; the newest versions of Windows apparently default to 125%, which Firefox detects and adopts)
    * Google search set to instant prediction results (default on Google search, but can be disabled in Search settings, see [https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/186610 Google Instant Search Help])
    * Opening results in the same tab, then using the Back button to return to the results page (default on Google search, but can be changed in Search settings to open results in a new window/tab, see [https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/425 Google Search Help])
Firefox's cache feature attempts to maximize speed for forward and back actions by storing the last rendering of the page. Something about the instant prediction results ''with zoom'' is causing Firefox to briefly display the results and then they blank out and you have to reload the page to get them back. The mystery is why this only occurs (so far as I have heard) on Google? Is one of Google's scripts blanking out the page? Does Google care that it's messing up Firefox users?
For now, if you do not want to or cannot change any one of the three factors needed to experience this problem, you can disable the storage of the last rendering of the page. Then Firefox will skip the shortcut and lay it out fresh, which is known to work. As noted in earlier posts, you make this change using the about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered.
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers''' preference and change it to 0 (that's a zero).

  • Back button doesn't work in https google search

Google search seems to have made https mandatory when logged in. This breaks history and the behaviour of the back button from the results page back to the google search results page. I think that this is because google, upon clicking on a result link, redirects to the results page via an intermediary, obfuscated url, which causes the back button to also redirect back to the result page. This is exactly the same problem as described here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/892406?e=es&as=aaq for which there is no solution, as google doesn't allow us to disable https anymore. BTW, this behaviour is not replicted on chrome, i.e., back button works correctly in spite of the intermediate redirecting page.

    Hi,
You can try the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/?src=search NoScript] add-on which may help.

This problems has been occurring on two different machines over the last two days.

I think this may not be a browser problem but rather a Google problem.
I am getting the same problem with the Google Chrome browser.

  • Back Button for Custom Search Component CRM 7.0 Webui

    Hi Guys,
I have developed Zworklistsearch component (WEBUI) for the service order header and item level search.
The component will replace standard worklist search in the worklist Menu (Standard component CRM_BT_TRANSINB).
The Component is having following parts
    1. Search option (Selection box with option header level search and item level search)
The search option is binded to the component controller. When the search is loaded the default search type is header.
    2. Search view fields
BOL objects for both item level and header level search has been created. However both the search views are referring to the same Z structure.
When the search is loaded default search view is header. The search view is loaded based on the search type selection by triggering outbound plug.
Both the search views are binded to the same component controller
    3. Saved Search
    Used standard Component SavedSearchRegistration.
    4. Result view
Both item and header result views BOL objects are created.
The zworklistsearch object has been replaced with the standard transaction inbox search. However, the problem is with the navigation.
In case of header search type when I navigate to the service order from the header result view and when I hit back button the search view selection is retained.
However, in case of Item search type when I navigate to the service order or service order item and when I hit back button the search view selection is not retained.
The search view loaded on the component is the header search view.
Also when I execute the saved search, Component is opened in a new window (not in the worklist window). And If I navigate to the service order and hit back button, the worklist view is not displayed.

What version of Firefox are people using? do you have any firewall or internet security software and what version?
To find out the version of software you have go to Help and then choose About. I remember reading an article a while ago about a firewall application that when they did an update, it stopped some browsers from working or something like that.
I wonder if this is something similar?
