Search hijack by conduit (/questions/968030/)

Everytime I open a new window my browser gets hijacked by bing conduit. I have tried lookng in add ons but don't see it. I like to check my horoscopes with Cainer and now this won't open either and I have been using it for years. I just want to have firefox and eliminate this Bing scurge!

You can check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if anything from Conduit or any other suspicious software like Search Protect shows up.
*Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
*Click the Installed column to sort by this heading
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and search for prefs that refer to <b>conduit</b>.
You can reset user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

  • Search hijack by conduit

    conduit

I have been able to get rid of this problem by deleting the registry keys. Got to your start menu. type in regedit. Go to find then type on conduit. Find the keys and delete the highlighted keys. Once you have finished one go to edit and click find next. Keep doing this until you have deleted all keys. Then go to Firefox and if Conduit Search is still there then click on the Firefox Tab, then troubleshooting and the reset Firefox. Do not restore anything when prompted. This should clear the Conduit Search. This remedy is only if everything else fails.

  • Browser is hijacked by Conduit and I cannot get it back

My browser home page has been hijacked by Conduit and I cannot get it back. I have tried:
    - changing the home page in Options
    - removing all toolbars and extensions
    - removing all Conduit-related programs via control panel applet
    - using the about:config to search for 'Conduit' and reset all config lines
    - scanning with SuperAntiSpyware
    - using the Mozilla profile manager to delete my Firefox profile
    - using Help-> Troubleshooting Information -> Reset Firefox
    - searching and deleting line containing 'Conduit' in the .js files in my profile
No matter what I do, whenever Firefox starts, my homepage is set back to Conduit. How can I fix this?
    thx

I have just had the same problem but found part of the solution in this forum.
The first thing to do is to type into the Firefox address bar about:config and hit enter.
    Acknowledge that you'll be careful!
In the search bar type "conduit" and hit enter.
Nullify all the entries by right clicking and select "reset". There are likely to be a lot.
Now, what the other forum thread failed to say was to then go to Options, Privacy, and under History select "Remember History".
Next, in the same window, select "Delete Individual Cookies" and search for "conduit". Delete all cookies containing the word conduit.
Close and reopen Firefox and all should be well.
As an added precaution I have added the Block Site extension to Firefox and in the options have added "search.conduit.com", which will hopefully stop this pest from reappearing. DO NOT SELECT THIS HYPERLINK FROM THIS POST!

  • How do I search for a previous question I posted?

    Hi
How do I find older questions I had posted on the forum/community?
I had posted a question a few months prior and had a response.  I'd like to look up that resonse again, but I cannot find it in my history.
The post is only a few months old, but does not show up in the history of my posts (that I can find).
How do I search for ALL of my old posts?

Click Your Stuff > DIscusssions. This should list all the threads you have contributed to, most recently active first, and paged back to your earliest post.
If you use the filter for Open Questions or Answered Questions you should see the threads that you started, still open and marked answered respectively.
If your thread really has disappeared then the usual explanation was that something contentious got added to it and the hosts deceived to evaporate the whole thing.

  • KM Search and External Link Question

Q1: I have created a Meta Data Properties for a Folder, so any document Created in this folder will require these data to be entered, I want to put a Filter Option on the this folder Iview where user can filter data on the basis on Meta data Property or Search document based on Multiple Meta Data Property using TREX or any other search.
Q2. If I create a External link to a document in KM folder, will TREX search in that document.
    Thanks in Advance
    Jagraj Dhillon

    Hi Jagraj,
Q1: You have to define the Meta Property as Indexable than you can use TREX for searching for documents with the specific value of this property. Of cause you can as well filter the documents when displaying the content of the folder. In this case you have to implement a resource list filter.
Q2: TREX is able to index links as well.
The question is it you really mean External Links for referencing documents in KM folders because normaly you do this by an internal link. A external link in most cases is a reference outside the portal. Nevertheless see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/73/66c090acf611d5993700508b6b8b11/frameset.htm so you can see you can define a parameter indexContentOfExternalLink and you can define a parameter IndexInternalLinks. In this case the index will contain as well the content of the links.

  • Site search software on mac question

maybe off topic but i thought someone on here may be able to help me. I have a site i designed that is a midzize company site. They want to add a site search to it. I have no idea how to start doing this. My question is there a software that does this on the MAC? I can find several that preform on Windows but have yet to find one for the MAC. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

My question is there a software that does this on the MAC.
First of all a MAC is not the same thing as a Mac
I thought the search function on a website was platform indepentant as it used a cgi script of somekind.

  • Charter & msn live search hijacking safari

so recently i've noticed that some websites will redirect to a 'search page' from charter. and just randomly, if i reload the address it will go to the site directly, sometimes it's not redirected it just goes directly. (sites like 'daringfireball.net' or my blog address, just random sites, it changes)
well then i noticed that it would ALWAYS go to redirected charter page when i only put the 'main' part of the address in, instead of the whole thing. i.e. just typing "apple" should go to "http://www.apple.com", but instead it would go to this site: "http://ww11.charter.net/search?qo=apple&rn=PcLMPddnp2HJcpY"
i then scrolled down to the bottom and clicked the 'About this Page' link. and found out that Charter was trying to be "helpful" and the only way to "opt out" would be to add a cookie. (doesn't it seem like i should have to add a cookie if i wanted to "opt in" not the other way around?)
anyways when i do 'opt out' then typing 'apple' in the address bar still doesn't take me to 'http://www.apple.com'; instead it takes me to a search results list from MSN Live Search: apple. that's almost even worse!!
and i can't figure out how to "opt out" of the msn hijacking. anybody else having this trouble? any suggestions?
i've already tried 'clearing cookies', emptying the cache, and restarting. nothing works. this is happening on both my iMac and macbook. and this only seems to be a 'charter' connection problem, because when i log in at a different location with another ISP it works just fine. i also contacted Charter and they said they don't support macs or safari, and told me to contact my browser developer.
thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi Pastorabe,
    Welcome to Apple discussions; )
Those DNS# values give by H_S, are from OpenDNS.
Your ISP, & many others have numbers to e enter in the DNS server field.
Many folks leave the DNS server field empty, not sure if that was the sase with yours.
In any case many of them can be found here on the PortForward page, look for the Common DNS Servers link.
Some in portforward such i.e, Earthlink's DNS # will still allow for highjacking, these are the opt out #s for Earthlink, that are not entered there.
    207.69.188.171 (west coast)
    207.69.188.172 (east coast)
If you're west of the Mississippi, use the west coast DNS server as your primary and the east coast as secondary. And vice-versa for those of you in the eastern U.S.
    Quoted from an earthlink blog
The Verizon DNS # 's also work for many in the US..
Verizon (Level3) - these are not restricted to Verizon customers

    4.2.2.2
    4.2.2.3
    4.2.2.4
    4.2.2.5
    4.2.2.6
It is very nice not to be highjacked to an advertising page or other, isn't it?
Enjoy your Mac & happy browsing: )

  • Safari Google search hijacked by Yahoo

Has anyone else found their search function in Safari hijacked by Yahoo? I can't even enter a URL -- it won't load! The Yahoo search box comes up instead and the URL stalls while loading. So then I am forced to do a Yahoo search to find the page I entered a URL for! Is there a solution for this or am I stuck with it?

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Homepage "google search" hijacked by yahoo

when-ever i try to use the Google search at the home page,
NOT the tool-bar or address but the one which is at the center of the window.
    the actual Google search.
the page get hijacked and i am redirected to yahoo results.
tried using malwarebytes and it came up with nothing.
how do i get normal Google results ?

If you are not a trained professional be careful with going into the registry and Master boot Record (as outlined in the above answer) as it can be quite dangerous. I would rather try something like the below solutions, it might be a bit easier and you don't run the risk of permanently damaging your Windows Installation or losing Data.
    '''Scan for Malware'''
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
    * [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
    '''Uninstall Programs'''
    # Click Start
    # Then click Control Panel
    # Then find the Add or Remove Programs (Or Uninstall a Program)
    # Find any programs with the same name as the issue you are trying to fix (Babylon, funmoods, etc.)
    # Uninstall them.
    '''Reset Firefox'''
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • I searched the term conduit, and it redirects google set as homepage, to bing search, without consent or agreement

I read blogs related to the conduit malware although maybe another issue is to blame rather than a malicious programme.
I was searching the term itself called, 'Conduit,' after this term was entered into the search field at the top right, to search wiki, the firefox browser added multiple browsers and then dumped google search as the preferred home page, and sent me to NaziSoft Bing.com. (Its who they really are.) (search IG Farben) No joke.
Anyhow, just thought it worth a mention to spread the field of reasoning as to the faults cause.

    Hello,
Many users already had problems with the conduit, i 'm not 100% sure but Conduit is a malware, try remove it from your Firefox, first try remove from your search engines:
    *[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-bar-easily-choose-your-search-engine Manage Search Engines]
    *[https://addons.mozilla.org/pt-BR/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Reset Search]
    Also scan your PC:
    *[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware Problems caused by malwares]
Verify in your Control Panel if unknown program was installed in your computer

  • Cursor search hijacking issue

On websites like yahoo it seems that there is a program or script  that annoyingly  jumps the cursor out of the google search URL bar into another search field - like yahoo search - usually just after loading the page and typing three or four letters. Is there any fix for this obnoxious behavior?

May 4th, 2014 -- almost four months after Spakuloid's post (above), and this is happening to me.  I have rebooted.  I have reset Safari.  Still happening.  I start to type a search string into Safari, with Google set as my default search engine, but using my.yahoo.com Yahoo! portal.  In the past week (approximately since doing the iOS 7.1.1 update, interestingly), this has been happening on EVERY search!!  Wonder if someone from Apple can give us an honest answer whether they're "pushing" searches to Yahoo or whether Yahoo has changed their portal service to hijack Safari.  One way or the other, something "just ain't right"!  Please tell us what that is!!

  • OT: Please search forum before asking questions (was:IMPORTANT FOR ALL !!!!)

i want to see a new question , all of your questions has a answers in the forum please searsh before you asking , Thanks

It is true that most people do not search the forum. They are usually concentrating on their problem and not realizing that most of the time someone had that problem before them and the question has been answered. Earlier, I had a post entitled "Most Asked Questions". Maybe we should have a FAQ blog or something to compile those questions again with some examples???

  • Search navigation web part question

I try to configure search navigation and User Current Query from drop down always say target not found. I try to change to search results web part ,but it is not working. It set back to target not found.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot change the User Current Query from in the Search Navigation web part.
I recommend to delete all the search result web parts in the result page and then add a new search result web part, then change the User Current Query from in the Search Navigation web part.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Results Based Search Region Order By Question

I recently setup a simple search panel. What is the best way to implement an ORDER BY clause for the search results? I know I can implement a manual search but that seems like overkill for sorting the result sets. I can't put an ORDER BY clause in the view object because the Oracle searching mechanism wraps this in a subquery and the order is no longer guaranteed.
I tried setting the 'Sort Allowed' and 'Initial Sort Sequence' for the required fields but it didn't meet all the requirements. It only sorted the first result.
This is against EBS 11.5.10 and eventually 12.1.3.
    Thanks!

    Mir
Anywhere are you trying to setQuery on Viewobject that is associated with querybean results region. If that is the case then you should use vo.setFullSqlMode(FULLSQL_MODE_AUGMENTATION)
    Thanks

  • Keyword search hijacked

For a long time I was happily using the smart keyword search.
E.g. I had assigned custom searches to the letters "d","e","w".
All of a sudden, they lead to different destinations. Whatever I tried to change them back - no luck.
Please do not suggest editing the bookmarks or right-click/edit in the search toolbar - these actions have no effect.
I have searched all the files in the profile folder as well as in the program directory for the urls. No result. Must be hardcoded or something.
I don't want thefreedictionary.com, ebay.com and english wikipedia for these letters! What can I possibly do? Revert to an older FF version?

How did you assign these keywords?
Did you create a bookmark or did you assign a keyword in "Manage Search Engines > Edit Keyword"?
The data used by the latter is stored in the search-metadata.json file in the Firefox profile folder.
Try to delete the search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
