Search in url, search in url, search in url
When I try to do a search by etering text into the url bar, I get redirected to BING (which I don't want) through search.install.mac...
You probably have the installmac / genieo adware
Carefully follow : Adware Removal Guide : Genieo
or
You installed the "Genieo" search-hijacking rootkit.
I suggest that you don't trust the uninstaller that the company provide, since it doesn't work properly & leaves active software behind.

Changing search engine box also changes default search engine in URL bar
I just updated to 23.0, and for some reason changing the search engine in the search box also changes the default search engine in the URL bar as well. I'm not sure if this is intended functionality (I hope it isn't), but it is kind of irritating. I wasn't sure if it was related to an addon I installed around the same time, so I tried disabling that, but the problem was still there; therefore, I'm tentatively assuming it has to do with 23.0.
I'd like to cast my (imaginary) vote in opting out of this behaviour. I hate it.
We previously had the option of two search bars. Now it's reduced to one.
The URL bar should be for URLs with default to google for real name searches. That's what makes sense. Not having typos look up YouTube, The PirateBay or whatever you have specced in the Search Bar.
Really, really, stupid change. At least give us the option of restoring the old system. -

Safari 6 Address bar defaults to 'search'. How do I get default to URL?
I like the old default of adding '.com. to the location I type in the address bar. Now, it has defaulted to search and my options appear to be Bing, Google, or Yahoo. I've tried the Customize Toolbar option with no luck. How do I get Safari 6 to default to the web address rather than search mode?
@Camping Doc: I subscribe to this.
My first entry in any Apple forum if I recall it right, but hopefully some internal developers will see this.
From my point of view Safari 6 is indeed a big step backward. My troubles in short:
Entering urls causes a search engine request, seems that "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions" does not work properly.
Even starting the url with http:// or https:// or entering IP addresses causes search ?! (I don't want google to know any of my LAN addresses if mistyped, or servers I administer).
HTTPS (with the lock on the left) can disappear even if the certificate is trusted all the chain up. I would like to see directly if I login with SSL. Even my granny wants to see that.
Even if the setting "Prevent search engines auto completion" == on I get an auto completion list, maybe a cached one ?! The dropdown list definitely says "Google search results ...".
Editing URIs causes me a lot of trouble, again because of the auto-completion.
I can understand that a some people (I personally know some) might be ok with all this because they might not care about SSL, and enter URLs in the Google page text field, but PLEASE make at least an opt-out setting or get the "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions" running properly. Safafi was always such a nice piece of software with good usability and good developer tools as well.

New tabs highlight the URL field; not the search field.
My homepage is Duckduckgo. I often use ctrl+t to open a new tab and immediately proceed to the search bar. As of yesterday (and a massive headache for me), no longer when I push ctrl+t does it go to the search area, but rather occupies the URL area! I wondered if this was Duckduckgo, so I changed my homepage to other search providers, specifically Yahoo and Google. A new tab still focuses on the URL field, not the search field. I wondered if this was my add-on "New Tab Homepage", so I disabled it and went into about:config, changing the value of the new tab from about:newtab to Duckduckgo. It failed to solve the issue. This is a huge issue for me and I need to find a solution immediately.
Well, I just got it fixed. I ticked the box that said to place focus in the URL bar and saved, then unticked it. Now it loads back in the search bar. Thanks!

Using URL maps to search for a particular sub-domain in a URL
Hi Guys,
Seem to be having some trouble with URL maps, and trying to search for a particular sub-domain in a URL. Let me explain:
We will have a number of applications frontended by our CSM VIP such as:
sftp.poc.monash.edu.au
callista.poc.monash.edu.au
I'm trying to get the CSM via policies and URL maps, to search for say "callista" and direct this traffic to a particular farm as below...however when i use the match statement the connections are dropped.
map CALLISTA url
match protocol http url *callista*
map CALLISTA-SFTP url
match protocol http url *sftp*
policy CALLISTA
url-map CALLISTA
sticky-group 197
serverfarm CALLISTA
policy CALLISTA-SFTP
url-map CALLISTA-SFTP
sticky-group 198
serverfarm CALLISTA-SFTP
vserver CAL-POC-DECVIP
description decrypt VIP for SERVERFARM CAL-POC
virtual 172.16.11.116 tcp www
persistent rebalance
parse-length 4000
slb-policy CALLISTA
slb-policy CALLISTA-SFTP
inservice
So i'm wondering if there is a better regular expression statement i can use to ensure that all the traffic that has "callista" in the URL is directed to a particular farm?
thanks
SheldonHaving a read through the CSM config guide I think i may have found the answer. I noticed that the URL maps only work on searching a "path' after the domain e.g. the presence of either "index" or "cep":
callista.poc.monash.edu.au/index.html
or
callista.poc.monash.edu.au/cep/
I've tested the above logic and this holds true....therefore there doesn't seem to be a way of searching for a "subdomain" in the URL as opposed to various bits of a "path". That is i'd like to search for "callista" or "admissions" instead of the path
callista.poc.monash.edu.au
or
admission.poc.monash.edu.au
Can someone confirm this one way or another? And if the sub-domain search is not possible, are there alternatives to getting it to work?!
thanks

AVG Secure Search appears when I use Google Search from my Home page only.
My home page is the Firefox default page with the Google searchbar. I like getting occasional messages from Firefox when I log in so I don't want to change my homepage. However, when I use the searchbar ''on my homepage only'', I get the unsatisfactory AVG Secure Search results.
UPDATE: I now realize all the troubleshooting information I included in my original question appears under the "More System Details" link next to the question, not in the body of the question. I have copied it here to make it easier to see what I have already done to try to solve the problem, as well as describe the one clue I have that may be relevant:
I have tried all the fixes on various threads, but my about:config is now pristine (no avg or isearch mentions; keyword.url is default). Closest solution is that at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/866327 , which requires changing my home page.
Oddly, AVG Secure Search is ''not'' a problem when I use the Google toolbar or search from the Google website, only when I use the search bar that appears on my home (start) page. This is true even when I return to my home page--if I search from the Google search bar in the middle of the page, I get sent to AVG Safe Search. (isearch.avg.com).
I read in one thread a suggestion to delete my chromeappsstore.sqlite file in my Profile folder. As promised, Firefox created a new one when I restarted it; however, the search bar in the middle of my home home page did not work at all. Tried this three times before restoring my original.
I do not have an application that will open a sqlite file, but I tried doing so in Excel and found a cell containing the following:
emoh.:moz-safe-aboutsearch-engine{"name":"AVG Secure Search","searchUrl":"http://isearch.avg.com/search?cid={7A3C25A0-E345-4507-AA31-D98F596A81A9}&mid=c48135235ba247d18ac1d14b344db451-addd29eab2809954d5abdf0b991a5b911a297819&ds=is015&lang=en&v=10.0.0.7&pr=sa&d=&sap=dsp&q=_searchTerms_"}
I have no clue what that means, but it is the only thing I can find related to Firefox that still mentions AVG and isearch.avg.com.
At this point my best guess (but it is a guess) is that the chromeappsstore.sqlite file is a key to the complete solution, but I do not have enough knowledge to go beyond and address it. I appreciate any help you anyone can offer.Here is the way to get rid of the problem once and for all:

Why do google search results reset to match the search bar terms when i use the back button?
Since the update to FF 23, the list of Google search results clears and the on-page search box is reset to match the address bar search box when I hit the back button to re-view the results list after checking a result.
To see this issue for yourself, set your search provider to Google and make sure Instant is on. Type a search term into the search bar and press enter. A google page appears with your results list. Now, change your search terms or conduct a new search directly from the google page (without using the FF search bar). Click on the first result in the search list, then click the back button to return to the search results so you can check a differest result. As FF goes back to the google page, it will reset the on-page search box to match the FF search bar (although you were no longer on this search) and all search results will disappear, replaced by the message "Press enter to search". Pressing enter reconducts your old search, not the one you were on.
This is incredibly maddening since searching for something requires frequent use of the back button to check through the list of search results, and then frequently trying the search again with slightly different terms. Although it sounds like a Google issue, it did not occur on the old firefox and has me wanting to revert. I tried to revert to the old search function via the "keyword search" addon, but this did not fix my issue. Is there a way to force FF to go back to the actual google search page I was just on instead of conducting a new google search from the FF search box when I hit the back button?In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

Your search cannot be completed because no search service is available- SP2013
Hi,
We have an application page, in which we need to retrieve the search results in SP2013. However, the query always returns the error "your search cannot be completed because no search service is available". Please find the code below.
using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://server"))
using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Query.FullTextSqlQuery kq = new FullTextSqlQuery(site);
// KeywordQuery kq = new KeywordQuery(site);
//KeywordQuery kq = new KeywordQuery(site);
kq.SourceId = new Guid(SourceID_Value);
kq.QueryText = keyword;
kq.RowLimit = 100;
kq.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.NtAuthenticatedQuery;
ResultTableCollection resultTables = new SearchExecutor().ExecuteQuery(kq);
ResultTable resultTableFinal = new ResultTable();
resultTableFinal = resultTables[ResultType.RelevantResults];
However, the same code works in a console application executed on the same server. Please let know if you have faced this issue and the solution.

I'm not sure what the feature is technically called. I have Google as the start page and use that to search.
In older versions of Firefox, after entering a search phrase in the main Google search bar, the phrase was shown next to a little Google icon. It was usually below the bar showing the URL I happened to click on.
I could then open a new tab and click on the little Google icon and get more search results in that new tab. I could then compare web pages on different tabs.
Maybe I have set the tabs function up differently? In any case, I hope there is a way to use the same search phrase in different tabs.
Thanks.You're welcome

How do I stop firefox from redirecting every page I click on in Google search? No matter what I search for in Google when I click on it Firefox redirects me to some other search, sales, or contest page. I have a security program running, no maleware, adware, or virus on my pc. Thanks for the help in advance.
Sounds like a dose of search redirect malware or a redirect virus.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

After entering a search field, hitting the search button yields no activity. I recently upgraded to Ver 20 on Win XP Ver 5.1.
I also tried suggested solutions of resetting the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone and deleting a chromeapps file to no availWhich search are you referring to?
*searching via the location bar (pref: keyword.URL)
*search bar on the Navigation Toolbar
*search bar on the about:home page (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename)
*other search bar (e.g. added by extension
Is that the search bar on the about:home page?
Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
*https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons). -
What is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?
HI ,
I want to kow what is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?
Or Can I abstract the Sharepoint fast search from the Sharepoint platform as a isolate component?
Thank you.
JamesThey are very, very different beasts.
Firstly FAST Search for SharePoint is the old name for the product and is only relevant for SharePoint 2010 not 2013. It got merged into the standard SharePoint search for the 2013 release.
SharePoint search is aimed at providing a Bing or Google like experience for your intranet content, as well as providing some nifty features that are purely SharePoint releated along the way. That means it can crawl SharePoint content, file shares,
outlook mailboxes, internal and external websites and probably fifty other different things if you really tried. Whilst i'm not an expert on SQL full text search I believe it's intended to provide a search feature for content held within SQL databases
and tables.
Can you run SharePoint purely for Search? Yes, definitely. -
How to get anonymous guest link "View Only" and "Edit" URL using JSOM or Search API ?
Hi,
I need to get list item anonymous guest link View Only and
Edit URLs (as shown in image below) using JSOM or SharePoint 2013
Search API.
the URL will be like this - https://<site URL>/_layouts/15/guestaccess.aspx?guestaccesstoken=yRaYGmE9n
Any one has any idea how to do achieve this?
Thanks
ShakirHi Shakir,
To get the anonymous guest link “View Only”, we can use SP.ObjectSharingInformation.anonymousViewLink property in sp.js.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj246826.aspx
To get the anonymous guest link “Edit”, we can use SP.ObjectSharingInformation.anonymousEditLink property in sp.js.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj246468.aspx
We can also use REST API to get the guests links:
_api/web/Lists/getbytitle('library name')/items(item id)/GetObjectSharingInformation?$expand=SharedWithUsersCollection&retrieveAnonymousLinks=true
Thanks,
Victoria

seems self explanatory to me. I don't know what else to say.
You can check if you have the ZoneAlarm search engine file in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program or in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder. -
If i go to googles page type in what i am searching for and then hit the "search" button in the bottom right of my keyboard it does nothing I have updated my iphone to newest OS 5.1.1 and I have rolled it back to a year ago and nothing works. If someone has a solution please let me know. I also cleared all web data and cookies
This is because how Google delivers and implements instant search. If you search for something that isn't in their instant search, the results will not update and you must press the magnifying glass to the right of the search box on Google's web page instead of the search button on Apple's keyboard as it isn't a "Enter/Return" key and that's what Google wants from a keyboard and it's labeled as Search key by Apple.
