Search Index and hyphens

Hey
We use our UCM environment to store a lot of content that contains hyperlinks. Many of these hyperlinks cotain content that has content like:
http://blah/car-hire/stuff.html
Our users have need to be able to search for parts of the URL's, and we are tripping over how these URL's are indexed. When they are searching for "car-hire" they get results for "car-hire", "car_hire" and "car hire".
I am guessing that this is because hyphen ("-"), undescore ("_") and space (" ") are all treated as separators by the indexer.
Anyone have any suggestions on how we can force the index of hyphened words? I had a play around with the "AdditionalEscapeChars" setting, but I couldn't get it to make any difference.
We are using Version:11gR1-11.1.1.6.0-idcprod1-111219T111403 (Build:7.3.3.183)
Our Search Engine is set as: SearchIndexerEngineName=OracleTextSearch
Cheers,
A

To see if this is an issue with the way the search engine is handling the hyphens, try running this query instead:
http://blah/car{-}hire/stuff.html
The braces tell OTS to treat the "-" as a string literal as opposed to an operator.
If this works, the issue is that the search engine is trying to execute the search EXCLUDING the stuff that comes after "car".  This is somewhat standard search engine functionality, as a hyphen/minus sign is an instruction to "don't include items that contain the phrase following the minus sign."

  • Embedded Search Index AND Document Security?

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1.7.
It appears that I cannot have both an embedded search index and restricted security (e.g., password required to change document) on the same document.
    Why is that?
If I start with security ON and then attempt to embed a search index, I get below error message:
A search index can not be embedded in this document because this document has restricted security permissions.
If I start with security OFF, successfully embed a search index, and then secure the document, Acrobat "strips off" the previously embedded search index.  No warning message; no feedback to end-user; just kills it!
Why are those two functions mutually exclusive?  Anyone know of a work-around?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
As to "why", that might be floating out there in Adobe's devnet space or in one of the blogs maintained by Adobe's devnet crew.
Also good to know about use of embedded index - if used, cannot apply fast web view to the PDF. It is one or the other, but not both.
Work around? I've not come across one; but, that does not mean something isn't "out there" <g>.
    Be well...

  • Search index - and high availability

Running Search on WFE(A) and APP(B) server - with this topology.
The company relies heavily on the Search Index - so a reset of the index isn't always an option, and the re-build takes a lot of time, so in order to avoid a index reset.
Is it possible to build a server X that holds the Index copy for server A+B and then when a reset is necessary on server A+B - tell SP2013, it now have to utilize the index that "sits" on server X, while rebuilding is done on server A
    + B?
Can I build a separate index for a specific content source/site collection? - so the content source
e.g. "http://contoso.com" are in search indexY and the "http://contoso.com/sites/" is in IndexZ   - and that way only reset indexZ and not touch indexY?
Does a second "Search Service Application" contribute/solve any?

    Hi,
1.Yes,you can add a new index partition consists of server A and server X(replica) , and add another index partition consists of server B and server Y(replica). For more information, you can refer to the article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj862355(v=office.15).aspx#Search_Index_Part
2.No,you cannot. But you can reset index at site level and list level.
    https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Manually-request-crawling-and-reindexing-of-a-site-9afa977d-39de-4321-b4ca-8c7c7e6d264e
3.No, you donot need to create a seacond "Search Service Application".

  • Spotlight searching no longer working - indexing and search disabled.

I've been searching the web and tried everything:
    Server 10.5.8
In Server Admin - the attached drive is a SharePoint with Spotlight search on.
I've used mdutil to enable Spotlight.
    I've checked permissions.
I can search the Boot Drive. I can't search the attached drive.
mdutil returns indexing and search disabled when used to turn it on.
    very frustrating.
Anyone out there have a clue?
    Thanks,

  • Indexing and searching files on linux

I have been using this program called Everything on Windows.
Which is the most awesome desktop search program I have ever encountered btw. It's just clean, simple and efficient
I can never remember where any of my files are so I really need something similar for linux.
You guys know of anything like this?

    thestinger wrote:
If you just want to search using filenames, there's nothing wrong with locate and find.
If you want to search using metadata from files, content in the files, etc. then you'll have to use something like tracker, strigi or beagle.
find is fine if you don't have many files or know approximately where the file you're looking for is located, but when searching through 3TB of stuff with a partial filename it's gonna slow since there's no search index.
Also it would be better if I had a simple gui.
There's mainly 2 things I like about Everything and would like to find a linux search program that works in a similar way
-Search index, that is built extremely fast. Also it monitors changes and adds/removes from the index on the fly. (search results appear instantly because of this)
-It searches in a similar way like when you're searching the media library in most music players (e.g. itunes, rhythmbox, foobar). It starts by showing every file and folder on the computer then narrows down the results with each letter you type.

  • Outlook 2013 shared mailbox indexing and search issue

I have 2 Outlook 2013 clients running in Cached Mode, with Download Shared Folders checked and a delegated mailbox opened via the Account Settings Advanced tab. Both clients are accessing the same delegated mailbox. According to this article (http://blogs.technet.com/b/outlooking/archive/2014/04/28/understanding-search-scopes-in-microsoft-outlook.aspx),
they should be able to search the Current Folder via WDS, but in both cases, changing the Search Scope to Current Folder causes Outlook to hang for 10-20 minutes.
This makes searching the delegate mailbox completely unworkable, which is a problem for the 2 P.A.s concerned, as they spend a lot of the day searching for correspondence.
I have tried rebuilding the search index, with no change in the search behavior. It seems that WDS is not indexing the cached delegate mailbox - how can I correct this?
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hello,
Please try to add the following registry key and then restart Outlook to check the issue again:
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection,
back up the registrybefore you modify it.
Registry data to index shared mailboxes:
    Key: HKLM\software\policies\Microsoft\windows\windows search
    DWORD: EnableIndexingDelegateMailboxes
    Value: 1
Please let me know the result.

  • Search threshold and index strange thinks..

    Hi,
I have a directory server 6.2 server with 60000 entries, the DS is used by lot of applications running in our environment. I have half of query that return in the access/error Logs that the search was unindexed. At the moment I have all the DB in cache and the threshold is set to 30000(very high). To understand better the problem, I have set the error log level to err-function-calls, so I have all the information we need for trouble shutting.
    Problem:
If I perform an ldapsearch like this:
    ldapsearch -h 10.248.156.52 -p 20389 -D "cn=dmanager" -w - -b "ou=people,dc=unicredito,dc=it" '(&(sn=pippo*)(givenname=*))'
the search is done in the correct way(the search was indexed)
but if I try to do this search(the one used by our application):
    ldapsearch -h 10.248.156.52 -p 20389 -D "cn=dmanager" -w - -b "ou=people,dc=unicredito,dc=it" '(&(givenname=*)(sn=pippo*)(usorganizationcode=US))
the search return notes=U in the access Log, and in the error I saw that the DS first try to mach :
    usorganizationcode=US and givenname
the result was all identries need to be scanned ,the DS seems to ignore the (sn=pippo*), the threshold limit was exceed and the search consume lot of CPU and RAM.
So I want to know, how can I perform a search with this kind of filter:
    (&(givenname=*)(sn=pippo*)(usorganizationcode=US))
by using indexes and cache ? It is possible ?
    Regards Fabrizio

    Hi Fabrizio,
we had a similar issue, searches with 3 filter elements were unindexed when the first 2 filter elements could not be used for the search. We have a hotfix for it, if you have a valid support contract you should be able to get it (if it's the same issue). The bug ID is 6527909.

  • Need some advice with indexing and search server in multihomed environment.

    Hi,
I want to introduce the JISS (java indexing and search server). We have an multihomed environment with two frontends for convergence and imap/pop proxy service and two mail stores in a cluster HA environment
(Sun cluster 3.2, messaging server 7u3-15.01, convergence 1.0-12.01 running on glassfish 2.1.1). The directory servers (multimaster) are on speperated servers.
I viewed the jiss deployment pages in the wiki (http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Indexing+and+Search+Service+Deployment+Planning), but they are more confusing than helpful.
    My questions are as follows:
Can I put the jiss web service on the convergence server (to share the same glassfish server?
Is it better to put the indexing part of JISS on a seperate server or on the convergence server or better on the mail store servers?
Can I run the JMQ broker in an HA environment on the cluster? Is it possible to run JMQ together with messaging server in the same cluster group?
Can JISS index two mail stores (I didn't find anything in the config guide)?

    Hi there,
I just read this thread, and maybe someone here can answer my current trex question:
I have created an ordinary CM repository, and created an index with this repository as source. Now the problem: I would like to exclude files in the repository with specific mimetypes from the TREX indexing process.
I have verified that the TrexValidMimetypes.ini does not contain any reference to the Mimetypes I'm creating, but never the less, the document titles are searchable and are returned when searching.
How do I get around this issue?
Is it possible in NW04 or EP6.0 SP3 PXXX??
    Regards,
    Hco

  • InterMedia indexing and searching of zipped files

Hello, I have interMedia successfully configured to index and query a repository of files (MS Word, Excel, PPT, PDFs, txt files)which are located on a file system. My issue is with zip files. I cannot successfully index and search zip files. I've tried zips that contain both ascii(text) and formatted files (doc, ppt), but interMedia seems not to recognize this particular MIME type. Is there a way to have interMedia index and search zip files? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You will have more luck with this question if you post it in the Oracle Text forum. This forum is for interMedia (image, audio video).

  • Clustering MSG 7.0 u3 + Indexing and Search Service

    Messaging Server 7 Update 3
    Indexing and Search Service 1
Indexing and Search service requires IMQ broker configured.
In clustered msg srv deployments with ISS enabled, what is the correct way to deploy IMQ:
    - as a clustered service with affinity configured between msg and imq
    or
    - imq instance running on each node of the cluster
    Thanks,
    D.

JMQ should be installed on each cluster node with something like this:
    Grab mq4_1-installer-SunOS.zip (SPARC) or mq4_1-installer-SunOS_X86.zip (x86)
Slap JMQ installer somewhere like /usr/local/src and unzip it
