Search Like Google

Hello all,
I want to include the search as a Google Search in my portal tool Area.
Instead of searching in Specified Path Folders(Repositories in KM Folder), i want to search all over the World.
is there any code to include the Google Search?
Kindly tell any restrictions and limitations while adding that in portal.

Here they specified we can integrate Third party search engines to our portal.

Feature request: keyword search like Google Toolbar

One of the features (well, the ONLY feature) that keeps me from using Safari as my default browser is a feature I get through Google's Toolbar.
After you type in keywords for a search in Google's toolbar. You can click on the word (in the right area) and it will automatically find the next occurrence of that word on the page. (You can alternatively clock on the "highlighter" icon and it will highlight any words in your search). You can find any individual word.
Safari's feature to do this, as far as I can tell, is far less useful. After you type in some keywords. You can click on the magnifying glass and at the bottom, it has the ability to search for the keyword OR phrase, depending on how you search.
Google's Toolbar feature is amazingly productive -- and useful. I can't figure out why none of the browsers have picked up on this feature.
(If someone knows a way to do this with Safari, I'd appreciate it).

As for this capability, there's no reason why a browser couldn't support this feature -- doesn't matter that Google did it in a toolbar. And, in fact, if you click on the magnifying glass in the search box, it does allow you to search within the current page for what you searched for (though it's limited only to the "phrase"). It's at the bottom... You have to have words in the search box to see this.
I'll make the suggestion directly to Apple.
To anyone who hasn't used this capability -- it's really powerful. That said, you need the Google Toolbar which is only supported on Firefox, not Safari (on the Mac platform).

Making our site to search by search engines like google, yeahoo...etc

Hi All,
To make our client site search and display results by google / yahoo or any other search engine what needs to be done?
we kept "meta" tag keywords and description in all our html file and mastheaders.
What we need to do for making our site searchable by search engines ( like yahoo search and google search etc)?
Do we need to register with the search engine sites or search engine will search our site automatically by checking "meta" tags in our web pages.?
All our webpages are in KM.

I havent tried this before, but would like to add my 2 cents to this topic.
I guess you could start by submitting your site to google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
Search engines rely on a lot more than just the meta tags and other header information. I guess Google relies on something called PageRank and also track backs in order to determine the relavance of your site to the search criteria.
You may also search for document related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but not sure if that would work.

I'm not sure if this is a Firefox issue, but in the last week or so, whenever I do a search on Google or Bing, when I click on one of the results, I get redirected to a site like Tazinga!, instead of taking me to my destination.

For example, I did a search on Google for :
"resume have summary and objective - Google Search"
It returned several options. I clicked on :
"Summary and Objective statements | Magic Pot of Jobs (http://www.magicpotofjobs.com/2005/07/30/summary-and-objective-statements/)
And instead ended up at:

This has been occurring with almost every search I do.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

I just bought an ibook pro and want to download a browser like google chrome which I am familiar with. Safari just seems to be a lot of icons for shopping and I would like to disable it and put something more functional in its place. How do I ?

How do i change the setting so that when i type something in the address bar, it searches with google. it's started using yahoo and i hate yahoo, i'm even considering leaving firefox

Google uses a very sophisticated search algorithm, so I think you'll be a little pushed to replicate that or get anyone on the forum to do it for you.
You may be able to get something from using Oracle Text, if that suits your needs.
Alternatively, if you're looking to write your own thing then you would need some way of parsing the question and ignoring certain common words that you're not interested in, picking out just the words you want and then searching the relevant columns for those words.

SEARCH IN GOOGLE option stopped working

I reinstalled the OS (Tiger 10.4.8) on my brand new Mac Pro and now the "Search in Google" option, that you get when you ctrl-click (or right click) on any piece of text in most programs, doesn't work. The option is still there, but it doesn't open Safari and do a search like it did before.
The only thing I changed in this install was disabled all printer drivers and multi-language support. I can't imagine that's why it stopped working but I figured I'd mention it anyway. I really miss this option- anyone know how I can get it back!?

For what it's worth, I never figured this out but the option to search in Google eventually came back on its own. I don't know when or how, but I suspect it was probably magic.

Internal knowlege base and highlighted abstract (like google)

1.) Is there a way to browse dump or explore the build-in knowledge bases?
2.) We programmed stored procedures that returns a table with hits, containing among other things also a short abstract of the documents with highlighted search expressions (like google).
We perform roughly the following sequence of queries:

Is there a more elegant and faster way to get documents and the positions of the query expression therein with one function call? Or is there a way to directly access the indices?
With highlighting the abstract the queries take 10x longer!

I had this issue myself, and implemented a work around that produces much faster results. I created a new CLOB column in my document database which contains the indexed BLOB and indexed it, so I have 2 indexes one on the blob, one on the clob. Upon insertion, deletion etc of a document I execute the ctx_doc.filter procedure on the blob and transfer the output to the CLOB column. To keep the indexes in sync, i conduct parallel syncs etc. While this approach may not seem ideal as it requires more space in the table, consumes more resources when altering the document table and requires extra steps to ensure proper data integrity it actually places less strain on the server when the application is run. Instead of executing the highlight, filter or markup procedure on the blob for every document returned in the query I simply execute it on the clob column which reduced the time to almost nothing. Why is this the case? When I created the index on the clob, I chose to use ctxsys.null_filter which bypasses the INSO filter and saves processing time. Now, instead of performing on the fly filtering(which is fine for one document at a time) I filter all documents when they are altered and simply execute the markup procedure on the filtered document. To trim the document, you can either pass the temporary clob to your application and trim it there or trim it in your procedure(the preferable option)

How can I prevent Yahoo search from invading my searches on Google? I have (nor want) nothing Yahoo in my comp.

when I am reading a site I have Googled, Yahoo replaces the page with its own and gives me a search page much like Google's. I can delete the URL, but I can't get rid of the tab with Yahoo Search on it. The Y page will continue to take over the screen. It doesn't happen everywhere, but I haven't found a connection between the sites where it does happen.

Why does FF 8 together with Seoquake stop searching in Google and froze my PC?

I uploaded FF 8 and did not have any problems. Then I needed to upload SEOquake and from this moment on I am able to open FF and my bookmarked sites, but when I want to search in Google I'll see the search results but I am unable to click a link. FF stops working. When I want to close it I get the message the 'program does not respond'. It is more than annoying.
I was running FF 8 for approx. 2 weeks within it also crashed 2 times but at least it was running...
Today I reloaded the 3.6 version and everything is working fine.
I like FF and don't want to loose it - but with this big 'handicap'... Hope you have a solution for it.

I was about to ask the same. FF just updated itself to 10.0.1, and now it keeps opening with http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/10.0.1/whatsnew/, in addition to whatever tabs I had open the last time. Meanwhile, my preferences are (and have always been) set so that it should open with a blank page and even my home page is set as "about:blank". This would seem to be a bug with the update process to 10.0.1.
If I look at about:config and search for "start", I see the following entries. No matter how many times I clear them and restart, they keep coming back:

How do i limit my searches to google only

No matter what I search for, no matter that the Q bar says google, the seach only comes back in yahoo
I don't like or want to use or see yahoo searches.
How can I totally block all searches on yahooo and limit my searches to google only?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Strange issues - .uk websites come up when I search with google

OK I just purchased a 1.42 emac used from ebay. The computer runs fine but when I do a search in google (in safari or FireFox) I get a lot of .uk and .au results. I have a powerbook too which I have had foir a long time and when I do the same keyword search I get totally different results (usa results). I just did a zero data (7 times over) on the emac and reinstalled the software but I still get the same issue. What is going on?

UK, AU, Canada and the US all share the same installation CD (you can choose which you're in at install time), so that wouldn't be it.
It sounds like Google thinks you're in the UK. Google uses IP address lookup tools to work this out. I've taken a mac around the world, and if I type in www.google.com, it changes to a local version based on where I am, be it Australia, UK, Canada, Japan, etc.
If you go to http://www.ip-adress.com/ .. does it show the correct details?
