Search not working properly in Artist or Genre tabs?

Hi - I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.1 on Mountain Lion (MacBook from about the end of 2010, beginning of 2011) a day or two ago from the app store, and I've just discovered a problem I can't find a solution to. When in the Artist or Genre tabs and using the search function, the main window doesn't update to reflect the search, even after hitting enter. The side bar updates, and it works fine in the Song and Album tabs.
An example of what I'm talking about:
I type linkin in the search bar, press enter (which is supposed to apply the search in the main window, rather than the little popup below the bar), and the sidebar updates, but the main window still shows everything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time.

Hello Siddharth,
Check what is the the indexing status of the files in the second folder ? File --> Details --> View --> Index information. Ideally it should be indexing status okay.
If the status is okay, then check for any filters in your search option set.
If it is not okay, then check whether approval or any time based publishing is enabled in the folder. Or is there any special characters in the folder name which is preventing the files inside from getting indexed.

  • Mail search not working properly

Just upgraded to ML and the search function in mail just isn't working properly, I didn't think the Lion mail search was great but this one seems 10 times worse. If I search for words contained within a message, the results only show messages from the last couple of months even though I know there's dozens of messages containing the same word from the last couple years.
I tried repairing permissions and rebooting. Still same issue.
If I manually open an old message, and then perform a search, that particualar message will get included in the results, but I can't open thousands of emails just for the search to index them.

You should try rebuilding your Spotlight index, as that's what Mail uses.
Go to Spotlight preferences, and drag your boot drive (probably called "Macintosh HD") into the privacy pane.  Say OK to the warning.  Then after about 10 seconds, remove it.  The whole drive will be re-indexed (this will take a couple hours) and then search should work again.

  • Search not working properly in mail

The search feature in Lion/Mail will not find names or words in the "Subject" category even when I know they exists.  I use mail for my business and often need to find old emails from clients..... the new search feature in Lion does not work.  How can Apple release a product with such a obvious flaw?
    Other problems with mail.....
    • When I open mail no new mail will appear in my "in box" until I select another mail box like "trash" or "Sent".... then the new mail will appear.
    • The "Hide Mail" feature is greyed out when mail is open.... there's no way to hide mail.
    • The scroll down bar on the right side of the window is hidden until you drag the edge of the frame over to reveal it.
    • Windows are locked and can't be moved.
I've been using Apple products from the earliest days in the 1980's and quite frankly have been shocked at some of the things Apple is screwing up these days.  From the Final Cut Pro conversion to Final Cut X disaster that has sent thousands of professional editors running to other products, to these seemingly small but irritating flaws with the new software being released before these problems have been addressed.
A search feature that does not work?  Did anyone try this out before the release?  Steve Jobs would be raising **** if he were still alive!

Thank you. I can't find "startup volume" in the side bar. Is that my SSD (or hard disc) main boot drive you're taliking about? I hope this will work...
If it doesn't work, you might try posting a new discussion to see if others might have some thoughts on it.

from the looks of it, I'm in serious trouble as this is now becomming a common issue and one that has no resolve. This really messes everything up as I need (as well as a lot of others out there) to use the search on a daily basis for me to check on past emails. I rely on that to work. This is terrible... There is really no other way to search for anything now. What was Apple thinking?...

  • Blog Searches not working properly

I am using the blog format for part of my website. When I use search it works great, except, when you click on the link to where your result is located it takes you to a site that doesn't exist. I think this is because I am using www.dougsQCcollectibles.com as my address, but the site is actually located at the .mac address. Is there a way to get search to link to the page at the .mac address rather than the mask at my purchased domain name?

I have the same experience. I have successfully setup a personal domain forwarding but the blog search results points to a not working URL.
Looking at this URL I think the search function gives the correct URL, but the URL forwarding does not work for deep links.
    Anyone having the same problem?

  • Spotlight search not working properly : IOS 5.0.1

Hello, hope I can find some help here...
My partner is having some issues on her 4S since the IOS 5.0.1 update : when she does a spotlight search (swipe left on first home screen) and starts typing, nothing appears. Not as she's typing, not after she's finished typing for what she's looking for.
A restart of the phone fixes the problem for a while, but it just comes back.
I don't seem to be having the same issue on mine, but I don't use the search as much as she does.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rob

I am experiencing the same issue. My email accounts are fine. There is no issue with that. The issue appears to be between the Mail app and the Spotlight Search feature. If the Mail app is running then the spotlight search works fine. However, when the Mail app is closed it fails to work.
This is such a pain. I use the feature a TOn and to have it not work is a joke. I wish Apple would address all of the issue associated with iOs 5. Upgrading to a iPhone 4S along with iOS 5 has been a complete nightmate. I have seriously considered returing my phone and switching to an Android based phone. Apple is losing their edge by putting out shotty products coupled with poorly developed software.
Time is running short Apple. Fix the issues or you may have larger problems ahead.
It appears as if the operating system is becoming too complex for Apple to manage. The demise of the great phone and software combination if immenent. Apple reigh of supremecy is begining to diminish.

  • Keyword search not working properly in Mail since iCloud upgrade

Since I upgraded to iCloud from MobileMe and Lion from Snow Leopard, the new Mail (Version 5.2 (1278)) does not execute keyword searches properly.  With the previous version I could start entering a keyword and all potential matches based on my criteria (email contents, from, to, subject etc.) would populate the window with all possible matches from whichever folders I specified or all folders. That is not happening now.  I have entered numerous keywords in the search box for matches I know exist, but they are not being found.
Anyone also seeing this issue?  I am using Mail to access an IMAP email account for my business. Again, this was not a problem before the migration to iCloud and the forced Mail version upgrade.

  • "Search" not working properly. Bug?

Perhaps it's just me (because no one else seems to have reported on this). I raise it here because I cannot find a bug-report form for Apple. (I'm sure there is noe, I just can't find it...)
    OSX 10.47, G5 dual 2GHz, 4.6GB ram. Not a newbie.
Although Spotlight sits up there, I traditionally use command-F when I want to find something. Say I have a folder full of images, some of which are duplicates. For example, say I have a folder with, among other things, image-25.jpg and image-25•02.jpg
In the good old days, (OS 9) it was easy to dispose of dupes. Open the window in list view and you could carefully drag so you selected just the wider-width names that the •02 gives them. Not any more.
So, to quickly find what could be in theory 100 dupes, I do a search for •02.jpg. None found. Huh?
Do a new search looking for just 02.jpg. Nothing. Huh?
Do a new search. This time I copy-and-paste a file name: image-25.jpg. Nothing.
I shouldn't need to mention that I have set the prefs correctly. I leave "Search For" alone and, instead, turn "Kind" into "Name" then add "Contains". Then I select the partition on which these files are contained.
I even switched to Spotlight to see if anything is different. It is not.
I tried a nifty utility I have, SpeedSearchX 2.3b3. But I think it looks only for text content, not file name.
I tried File Buddy. This time, it works. So what the **** can be wrong with Apple's built-in tools and why does no one else report a problem?

I gather you have not taken a look in the Spotlight forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=757
You will find endless complaints about Spotlight and Find not finding files.
If I do a search on 02.jpg Spotlight returns 499 results, such as 02.jpg, 02step02.jpg, 202.jpg, DSCN00002.jpg, and so on. If I do a Command-F search on my Data drive, with Name:Contains: 02.jpg I get 298 items with a similar variety of names.
You should try reindexing the drive that is not returning results. Open Spotlight pane in System Prefs, click the Privacy tab, drag the offending volume into the list, wait a few seconds, then delete it from the list. Spotlight should reindex and then find things just fine.
If it doesn't you can always use EasyFind:

Scroll down to the second batch of goodies. It is free.

  • TM Search not working properly?

Ok, so I had a video I downloaded (the IGN Video Review of Crysis) in my downloads folder, time machine in this period ended up backing them up, after which, I deleted the files off my computer and just to test out time machines capabilities, I opened it up, clicked on my downloads folder, typed in Crysis and did the search... However, it did not find the file by simply just typing Crisis into the search field. Oddly enough, if I didn't type anything in the search, and just browsed by time, it was there.....
I'm slightly confused by this, because if i delete a very important file at some point, remembering only the name of the file, but not its location, its got me thinking that it's going to have troubles actually finding the file for me.. Does anybody know why this happened?

Well I am not completely sure how you did your search but this seemed to work for me. I also deleted a document that wasn't too important to test out Time Machine's capabilities. I opened Time Machine and typed in the name of the file and clicked enter. It came up with some results that had a similar file name but I couldn't find the file I was looking for. I clicked the arrow sending me "back in time" and alas there the file was. I didn't have to continuously check every dated back-up to search for it; I simply typed it in the search bar, couldn't find it in the results, clicked the arrow sending me "back in time" and boom there it was, one-click restore and I was good. Hope this helps.

  • Ipad music search not working properly after updating to iOS 6.1

I just updated my 3rd generation ipad to iOS 6.1 and search in music app doesn't work now.i search for some song and only a few songs show up, whereas I can find the songs, manually. Even the spotlight search doesn't show all the songs.
I have tried restoring to factory settings and then re-syncing with iTunes... But no help..
I think there are only a few songs that show up in the search everytime..
    HELP!!!

This is happening to my iPad Mini too, unfortunately. The best thing to do is to wait for the next update, which might come soon. But, you might want to go to your local Apple store and ask if they can do anything about it. Hope this helps

  • Walkman app search not working properly after lollipop update?

Does anyone else have problems with the walkman app search function? Just yesterday it worked fine before I updated to lollipop, when I searched for a song it actually found it. Now it's all broken and can usually find results only when I type in two or three letters. If I type less or more it finds nothing at all even though I know I have those songs on my SD card.
I can find the songs just fine if I scroll through all the albums manually, but that's slow and pain to do...
I updated the walkman app too after I noticed this problem but nothing changed. I also tried cleaning app data/cache but it doesn't help at all.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sony really needed to test Lollipop better. On my Xperia Z3 Compact, after Lollipop installed, Walkman app could no longer find any of my SD Card music using the Search function. It could however still play the SD Card music via the playlist. My best guess is that the index was corrupted during the upgrade, or Lollipop indexes SD Cards differently.
The solution to move SD Card music to Internal storage was a non-starter for me, as the Internal storage is 16GB and I have over 32GB of music on my SD Card.
However, I can report that I solved the problem by:
Connecting my phone to my PC by USB.
Moving all the music off the SD Card and onto my PC.
Moving it all back onto the SD Card.
Time taken : over 2 hours! Thanks a bunch Sony. Lollipop looks nicer than KitKat but wasted my time, apart from seeming to make apps slower and eat battery faster My advice to people thinking of switching from KitKat - don't bother!

  • Document sets and search not working properly

    Hello,
I'm having some problems with the search function within my document library.
I have three kind of Content type Document sets:
    Project A, Project B and Project C.
In my document library i have the following Document sets.
    Project 1 | Project A document set
    Project 2 | Project B document set
    Project 3 | Project B document set
    Project 4 | Project C document set
    Project 5 | Project A document set
With the search function i can only find Project 2,3 and 4. The Content type document set (Project A, B and C) are all the same.
I already did a full crawl of search. Anyone any idea's what is the cause of this problem. I need to fix this before Friday, because of a presentation i need to do for school.
Hope you guys can help me out!

I've done a full crawl, but it had no effect. The Log shows nothing strange...
Or is it because i'm using . in the names?
    Project 1 = 13.22.0001
    Project
    2 = 13.22.0002
    Project 3 = 13.22.0003

  • Awesome Bar search not working properly

  • Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro (Editable PDF Combobox Search is not working properly.)

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro.  But in editable PDF combobox search is  not working properly.
    It's only search first character.

My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately.
