Search Quick Malwere

How can I uninstall Search Quick from my iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2?

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Do you know how to fire search-quick virus from safari ?

a virus called search-quick entered safari and became my search engine instead of google

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of today, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same word you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How to get rid of an add-on called Search-Quick

I noticed recently that my Safari homepage keeps getting replaced by something called Search Quick (search-quick.com) even after I specifically reset it to the page I want.  It shows a graphic with a input bar and a flashing cursor underneath the graphic.  I have never accessed this site so i have no idea where this came from.  According to the makers it is supposed to be an add-on to quickly find stuff, and shows up in Spotlight as "Search Quick - Apps We Trust"  but it is nowhere to be found, so I am unable to delete it, which I would love to do.  Please help.  I've been at it for many frustrating hours.

  • Some how Search-quick has attached itself to my safari.  How can I get rid of it?

I am running OS 10.9.5 on my iMac and safari version 7.1.2.  Somehow "Search-quick.com" has embedded itself as the search engine vice Google.com when I bring up Safari.  I  have not found this particular piece of software on my machine.  I would appreciate finding out how to get rid of this problem.

Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.

  • New forum version: better search, quick reply, new...

    Hi all,
I'm happy to let you know that we're now using the latest version of our forum software.
You've probably noticed that there's a few design updates and changes. We in the Discussions team would love to get your feedback on any changes - but please digest the design for a few days before you decide whether you like it or not
This new version enables a lot of new features that we will be rolling out in the next months, the most important being a mobile-optimized version. The target for that is in April.
The bad news is that we are having some small compatibility problems on some of the websites where this forum is available, and some of the features don't work properly on them. On some, everything works pretty much as intended. See below for details.
Here are some of the most important changes:
    1) Improved search:
The forum search is now giving you suggestions about threads that match your keywords. Try it out and see if you can now find things faster.
    2) Better visibility for RSS:
This is not really an update, as it's always been possible to create a RSS feed for any keyword - but now it's easier to subscribe as there's a RSS icon in the search results. This was one of my pet peeves in the previous versions and I'm happy to see this great little feature now getting the promotion it deserves.
    3) Quick reply:
You can now reply to a post directly from the thread view. Due to the problems we have on some Nokia sites, this is disabled by default - but you can turn it on for yourself from Edit my Info -> Preferences -> Display -> Turn on Quick reply (last item on the list).
Note that if you use this forum via the Nokia websites for Europe / UK / Australia or USA, using quick reply gives you an error message. But the post was still made and a page refresh will show it. If you click on "post" several times, you'll make duplicate posts.
Nokia sites in Asia (nokia-asia.com) / Ireland and MEA (mea.nokia.com) do not have this problem and quick reply works better there. You can use any of these sites to access this forum.
Also, giving kudos on those four problem sites gives an unnecessary error message. Just refresh the page and you'll see that the kudos was in fact given.
We're sorry about these errors and try to get them resolved soonest for all sites.
    4) Get an email when someone sends you a private message
This is pretty obvious. Too bad the email does not show the message content - or who sent it - so you'll have to login to the forum to read it, but at least you'll know you have a new PM.
    5) Personalization options
You can now customize how this forum looks and change your preferences such as how many posts appear per page and so on. I haven't tried all the combinations so I don't even know how much freedom there is, but just try it out for yourself.
There are a few acute issues that we are aware of, such as
    - the new green kudos button might be difficult to understand for new users
    - some fonts may be too small or to big
    - Google Chrome does not show the site correctly
    - using a phone to access the forum gives a messy design
and we are working on these issues with the forum software provider.
But I would love to hear your overall feedback and any ideas or complaints you may have!
    Best regards,
vandelay + the Nokia Discussions team
I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

    Hi,
I am a new member of this forum as well and spent a lot of time looking for more information about the problems or improvements to my specific phones. I have been searching for a place to drop some suggestions but couldn't find any. Just like MartinMiller35 suggested a few posts before, it would be lot easier and faster when the mobile product sections would break down more in to sort by device and then into the existing sections of software/suites/ music/video`s/ maps/applications etc.
I also agree with fender77, it would make such a difference as people would describe the problem in addition to their device better. It might be helpful if any solution working fine for phone "X " could be placed into other sections where the people are having the same problems and crying out for a solution, not aware that in another post or maybe even in a different category there is already an answer for their phone "y".
To avoid more (misplaced) threads, posts I suggest there could be a "tips and tricks or how to" section per phone, like the "Top Questions for..". Maybe the moderators (or anybody else who has rights can copy same solution in the multiple sections.
For example I`ve had problems getting my maps working on my "old" phone, I`ve been searching on "N95 8GB maps" didn't`t get me any recent solution or didn't describe the problems or state (latest info re fw or compatibility). After again a different search I`ve found a working solution but under "Ovi and Mobile Media", "Maps, Navigation and GPS..
I saw a header that described "my problem" but it was a different phone, even from a different series, it was a solution for the Eseries (to be precise it`s the post E75 Maps updater error cannot get enough information about the phone..." ) so I started reading, not sure if I was wasting time. After a few pages I still wasn't`sure if it would also work on my phone. It would have been a lot easier and I would be more certain of a working solution if it had shown directly under the section for my phone. I know the solution is applicable for a lot other phone`s, just adding the solution into those phone`s section could reduce the number of misplaced or even frustrated posts.
I have been going through a lot of posts but hesitated to use or comment or answer simply just because I`m not sure if the (menu)settings or OS, fw etc. are same or compatible and I wouldn't want to misinform anybody, cause any damage and simply don`t have the time to investigate other devices specs further.
Again for example I read about problems with N97 mini or the N97 but again I don`t know if they apply to mine N97 as I`ve had a "newer" one where a lot of "the old" problems seem to be more or less resolved. Now after having 3 N97`s returned to the store in 3 weeks time!! I have a right to change to a different device so I`m searching again. It would make my search a lot easier if i could see all the problems and solutions for the N97, the N97 mini and N900 at their own section  (to have a better comparison in case I decide to change the device, new N97 is expected to arrive to store next Monday, until then I`m searching/comparing).
I`m also looking into nokia messaging and HTML solutions for my N95 8GB and future Nokia device (guess it will be another new, hopefully working flawlessly N97) maybe there is already an answer but I don`t know cause it is under the E72 or X6 solutions..
I`m sorry if this isn't the or my place to make suggestions or if I suggested something that has already been used in the past and wasn't working at all.
This forum has helped me better than the Nokia site or the Nokia Care and I hope it will keep helping us.
    Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for taking the time to read

  • About 50% of the time Firefox is extremely slow loading any google scripts/search, all other scripts/search load quickly. Been happening for about a month now.

A month or so ago FF starting taking forever to load any page using Google scripts, also Google search. Not always, about half the time, the other half the time FF works fine. Can go on and off like this three or four times a day. No discernible pattern. Pages without Google scripts and other search engines (Bing, Yahoo) always load fine with FF, only Google doesn't. Even while FF is slooowwwly loading Google scripts/searches, Chrome and IE load the same scripts and searches quickly with no problems. WTF?

I had this problem, I checked my add-ons one by one as suggested and it was the Avast online security add-on slowing me down on Google. Disabled it and FF works ok.
No idea why the avast add-on would do that? Still using the full version of avast but not the add-on.

  • How can I remove this awful "Search for anything you want" screen that keeps preventing me from returning to my launcher's home screen?

I'm a long-time user of Firefox for Android. I love it. However, something very frustrating has been going on recently.
I have a Galaxy S5 Active ( Physical home button ) and lately, nearly every time I press the home button, I get this extremely irritating screen which displays "Search quickly for anything you want". Sometimes I press the home button over and over and it won't go away. I will press home after reading an SMS, and there it is. It is driving me insane, and there have been times where I have really wanted my phone to work "right now" and that screen pops up and gets in my way.
This didn't used to exist for me. I really, REALLY don't want to switch to a different browser, but I can't find any info on how to deal with / suppress this new search screen.
Any way to do this? Or can this issue be addressed if not? I wondered if it had something to do with having an actual home button, as opposed to a capacitive one.
    Thanks for reading.

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to wait awhile in order to ensure that this corrected the issue. For a brief while, it did! However, it did not take long before the screen began once again hijacking my home button presses. This occurs even with Firefox removed from default applications ( triple-checked ).
This never happened before version 35.

  • How to find a song quickly in ncmpcpp

    Hi
I've been trying to figure it out if it is possible to find a song in the playlist by artist and title or any other tag. Something similar to how Sonata filters the playlist.
If I search for 'one' I get hundreds of results even tough I only want the U2 song. I know I can search by tags in Search engine but I prefer searching in the playlist. So the only "solution" I found is to first filter the playlist for 'u2' and then do the Find forward for 'one'. But it seems there has to be a better way to do this. Using regular expressions with / would be great but I haven't found any examples on how to use them properly in ncmpcpp.
Is there a way to search by multiple tags with Find forward/backward?
I can see there are a lot of people on the forum using mpd and ncmpcpp and I'm wondering how do you search quickly for a song that has one fairly common word for the title?
    Thanks

So I spent some more time trying to solve this issue and I think I figured it out.
Even though I've set regular expressions to extended, I still had trouble finding the proper entries starting with 'one'.
^one.*u2 didn't return anything, at least until I've tried it in playlists column mode.
This is my playlist formating for column and classic mode:
    song_columns_list_format = "(40)[white]{t} (30)[green]{a} (10)[green]{l}"
    song_list_format = "{$8%t$9}|{$8%f$9} $R{$3[%a]$9}|{$3%D$9}  {$3%l$9}"
It turns out that color definition in classic mode are part of the input string but in column mode they are not.
^..one.*u2  finds exactly the song I was looking for.
In the end nothing fancy, but this little thing was bugging me for a long time now and I just wanted to make an end to it all.
... now the only thing left missing is a 'Jump to' widget for awesomewm

  • Mail 5.1 -- sorting and searching by sender

I just upgraded to Lion OS X, and I took the opportunity to move from Entourage to Mail 5.1.  I may have to move over to Outlook for Mac if I can't figure this out.  I'd like to be able to sort and search by sender without using the search bar, which requires me to use the mouse.  Please don't ask me why; suffice to say I like keystrokes, as I find them much faster!
In every other email program that I ever used, I could search quickly for a person's emails by (1) clicking on the "From" column to sort by sender, and then (2) typing the person's first name.  For example, once I had sorted by "From," if I started to type "Michael," the cursor would move immediately to the first "Michael" in the list of senders.  Or if I just typed "M," the cursor would move to the first "M" in the list of senders.  Etc.
In Mail, as a default rule, the program does something else: Even though I've sorted by "From," it finds the first reference to what I've typed -- e.g., Michael -- in the list of subjects, rather than in the list of senders.  This is downright absurd.  I have 10,000 emails in my inbox.  When I'm trying to find one, I'm looking for the author.  I don't remember the first word of the subject line.  I remember the author.  In any event, the program ought to look through the column by which I've sorted.  Once I've sorted by "From," it should look through the "From" column, not the "Subject" column.
Is there any way to change this default rule?  If this is a bug, can someone please fix it?  Thanks!

Additional information - I am continually getting a dialog box that pops up and says "Address Book wants to use 'login' keychain"  I enter it and the box goes away for a while.  Then comes back for no apparent reason.  Does this make any sense as to the cause?  Another aspect of this, which I've seen elsewhere in the forum, is regular crashing when trying to search mail.  My MacBook has the same OS and it works perfectly in all respects.

  • Can Aperture really search thousands of images fast?

I have iViewMediaPro (now Expression Media) on my machine. It is painfully slow to do anything despite it's boast. At the moment I use Photo Mechanic to import, browse and sort and RAW Developer to process, then Photoshop for fine tuning. Can Aperture do all this and still be a fast searching, quick sorting database? If so I'll buy it. At the moment I have Aperture version 1.5 but on opening it really is different to my current workflow. It looks scary! For instance can I batch process? Any unbiaised opinions from pro photogs greatly appreciated.

The short answer is yes, Aperture can search thousands of images fast on strong appropriately configured Mac hardware. Actually the search functions will often run fast even on weak hardware; it is mostly edits that choke slower boxes.
Your G5 configuration was not fully specified. Most G5s will not run Aperture well (e.g. stock G5 graphics cards provide unacceptable Aperture performance), so before moving forward you should post your complete hardware spec here.
I strongly recommend that every DSLR photog with adequate computer hardware first spend $33 and work through the tutorial CD Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 1.5 (Apple Pro Training) by Orlando Luna and Ben Long (Paperback - Oct 18, 2006). Have the CD and a MacIntel (or G5 tower with advanced graphics card) with 2 GB or preferably more of RAM prior to ordering the Aperture trial so you don't waste time of the 30 day trial. Note that the value is in the tutorial, not in using the book as a manual.
IMO a cursory examination of Aperture usually turns out to be mostly a waste of time, or leads to bad workflow habits or folks simply do not get it. Carefully working the tutorial is by far the best way to learn this new killer app category.
    Good luck!
    -Allen Wicks
Edit: Aperture version 2.0.1 is now out, and a new version of the Luna/Long tutorial is available for preorder: Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 2 (Apple Pro Training Series) by Ben Long, Richard Harrington, and Orlando Luna (Paperback - May 8, 2008). I have not reviewed the v2 tutorial.
IMO iViewMP was a good app for film workflows but did not keep up with DSLR's demands. Then MS buying it was its death knell as far as I am concerned.

  • Searching large PDF files

I have really really big PDF's (over 600mb)
I submit 10,000 paper  documents to a service company  they churn out 1 gigantic PDF
each original document is a page so there are over 10,000 pages in the PDF document
they provide me  CD with the file on it
this file gets copied out onto a shared network drive
So I go to the drive and select the file ( I am not absoulty sure the undercover detials such as when  you access a file that is located out on a shared drive.....does the entire file get loaded in my PC's ram?  or is it somehow loaded segment by segment? )
anyhow I then use FIND  to put a search string in and  it ca ntale over 30 min  to search the file
anyone have suggestion that I can use to re-engineer this process in order f to be able to search quickly ??
    thanks
    [email address deleted by host]

There is no way for you to do this in Reader. HOWEVER, if you are going to ask the company to produce the file you can ask them to embed an index so that searching (rather than finding) can be done more quickly.
BTW, the an index file could be created for searching an entire folder of files without the files being combined. The creation of such indices is one of the features of Acrobat. Loading large files unnecessarily is resource and time consuming without being necessary.

  • HT2523 Google search in the right-click menu doesn't open in default browser

    Hi ...,
Please share any suggestion that might help solve this issue.
    Thank you in advance!!
    Kubera

Oh, wow that makes sense! Thank you for your reply and tips!!
The link you gave is for Lion, but ok -- still props/kudos!!!
    I found this Chrome extension:
    "Highlight to Search"
allows you search keywords by highlighting instead of typing them into a search box
Google Highlight to Search is a browser extension that helps you search keywords easily.  After you highlight keywords within a web page, you'll see magnifying-glass icon appear below the highlighted keywords. By either clicking on the icon or the keywords itself, search-box with Autocomplete enabled appears for you to search quickly and easily.   By installing this extension, you agree to these terms: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/intl/en/gallery_tos.html This extension uses Google Search, and the data related to the query will be handled as described in Google's privacy policy: http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacypolicy.html
    Pretty awesome!

I've been a Quicksilver user for many years and I've been giving Spotlight Search a try as my application launcher. So far so good, but I think I may have run into a snag. Quicksilver allowed me basic control over iTunes, such as Start and Stop, but it doesn't appear Spotlight Search offers that level of control. Unless I'm missing something.
Can anyone think of a way where Spotlight Search can control play/pause in iTunes?

I was having similar trouble using iTunes 7.4.1 (2). The 'Power Search' quick link off the main store page (Australia) was giving a pop up message that the store was busy, try again later, etc. This has been happening for the last couple of days. If I was further into the site, on a page displaying albums or similar, the Power Search worked just fine. Go figure.
You wanna know the scary part? Since I logged into the discussion pages to post this, I checked back and the link off the main page is now working as it should. They're watching me!!
Tinfoil hat time, me thinks. At least search is working again.

  • Help* Getting a pop up that says Your Apple computer has been blocked

My partner was using my laptop yesterday and was trying to download the NHL hockey game stream from nhl-stream.com. He tried downloading it and downloaded MacKeeper and some video player. This morning I realized what he did so I googled how to uninstall MacKeeper and did so. I was unable to find the help file to delete for MacKeeper. I also deleted the video player and everything recent from the downloads. Now I'm havinganor problems with my MacBook Pro. When I use Safari it's no longer my regular Google homepage it's search-quick.com which I cannot get rid of? (Anyone can tell me how that would be helpful)
My biggest problem is the pop up that comes up and says
*YOUR APPLE COMPUTER HAS BEEN BLOCKED*
    Mac System Alert!!
System has been infected due to unexpected error! Please Contact Apple Care 1-855-680-7080 Immediately! To unblock your computer....
I Googled other pop ups like these on apple support and they says to hit Control W to close the window then change security preferences. The control W does not close the window I can only get rid of it by clicking Force Quit. Then when I reopen Safari either the Popup immediately comes or the first website i search it comes. Sometimes I also get new windows open for MacKeeper. This is very frustrating and I am still learning on how to work around my Mac. I have never found a problem with my computer before he went and downloaded the game.
IF anyone can direct me in the right direction to have this removed so it's safe again to go on my banking etc that would be great! I tried to call apple support but of course my call support has expired!

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.
If that message continues to appear, click here and run Adware Medic; the MacKeeper popups may also be produced by adware. You may need to use a different web browser.
