Search Result appear in a region of a page

Hi, we want to place the page of the search result in a region
of the main page. By default it open a new page. How can we do
it?
Thank you.

hi Elan,
i thought that Report Inspector did this...or did you try this tool and it didn't work out as planned?
another option would be (and i know that this may be painful in the short term) is to replace anything like this with a Custom Function which is a repository object. these can be updated automatically upon running the report. the painful part would be that you'd still have to open up each report and then replace each formula with the custom function. however, after that, any changes would be to one common object as opposed to constantly going back and forth with a tool that did the replacements.

  • How to make Google custom search results appear on a new page?

Anybody got any idea how to make the search results appear on a separate page? I'm using the Google custom search to get generated code to place on my pages, after providing some 'guidance' information on the look and feel of it. Normally, Google will provide you with a few options to choose from to determine how your results will look and by default one would choose the "two page" option whilst going thru the setup process. One page for the search box on your own page and one for the results page.
However, if you don't want a 'google-generated' results page but want the layout that's in line with the look of your site AND have the search box already on there for any repeat searches it becomes more tricky. I tried doing it one way, which I found one a blog tutorial but so far no sucess. The 'search box' code that I inserted onto one of my pages to test didn't show up the search box at all in preview or the live page...
Anybody got any generic code that can be adapted (that they know works) or know of any tutorial that explains how to achieve this? Preferably Google related, as I'm using its custom search.
In addition, I believe that recently Google have deprecated the use of iframe in its search results pages so for anybody that was using an earlier version of this facility it may no longer work properly and hence the solution might have to be modified. Not an expert, so not sure how much this fact will affect the final code, just a thought.
Any ideas/solutions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hello adrianm12, this should be possible through the metro settings ("search"). also see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=941292 bug 941292]...

  • Search results appear in red and/or crossed out

    Hi!
Has anyone seen this before, or is anyone able to reproduce it?
    http://homepage.mac.com/thomas.leaute/Safarirenderingerrors.gif
(I also posted this on the Safari forum, but then I just realized that I can reproduce it with Firefox, so this is a website issue, apparently).

Yes, this is a known issue that has been reported here a few times. The current forum software has a glitch that causes this. If there is an HTML tag opened in the preview shown for one post in the search results, it isn't closed and is carried on to all of the subsequent search results on that page.
In your example, a <strike> tag was used in search result #31, causing the word "crashing" to have a strike-through line. But due to this glitch, the <strike> tag wasn't closed, and the strike-through is applied to the remaining page content. And then in the search result #33, a red font tag was used, and due to the same error the the red font was applied to the rest of the search results on the page.

  • Is it possible to have a Youtube or Google search result appear in Firefox history without knowing about it?

I recently found some Google and Youtube search results on my boyfriend's computer in Firefox that were "questionable" and when I asked him about them, he adamantly denied knowing what they were and said he recently had some viruses on his computer and they could have put these results on there. I don't know if this is possible or not. The only thing similar to this I've heard is viruses redirecting you to a certain site, but not to specific google and youtube results, and if that did happen, he would have to see them, right? I think it's version 11.0. HELP!!

It is possible that you have a virus that was redirecting, but if there are Google searches, and Youtube searches, it is most likely that ''someone'' did those searches.
You can try running these tools to check for infections: [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]

So, I can't say for certain your boyfriend did these, but it is most likely that "somebody", not "something" did them.

  • IOS7 mail search results appear to be random by date also where are the search parameters, from to etc..? help!

Mail search returns results by random date. Where are the mail search parameters, from,to,etc?

This is really annoying. Mail search on iOS 7 never worked, either on iPhone
    4S or on iPad.
Search results are not sorted in any perceivable order. I get totally random results, with messages dating 4 years back jumping to yesterday and so on.
I have never seen Apple to respond to this issue with earnest feedback, and users are often dismissed.
I used to have to resort to my Macbook Pro to get decent results, but due to the many mail app problems on OSX, I do not rely on it anymore.
Can Apple please give feedback to this search issue on the IOS devices? It is really, REALLY crippling.

  • Google search results link back to Google's front page

My Firefox 9.01 under Ubuntu Linux 10.04 seems to have a problem with the links in the results (hits) from Google. When I click on a link, I am directed to Google's front page.
    Example:
I enter the search phrase 'occupy wall street demands' into Google Search. One of the hits I get is Wikipedia's entry on Occupy Wall Street. The URL is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupy_Wall_Street
When I click on this hit, I come to a page with this URL:
    http://www.google.com/webhp?emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=oAosT9jsCcL64QS2xLCrDg
    which shows Google's front page.
However, if I right click on the link ans select "Open link in new window", then Firefox correctly opens the new window with the Wikipedia article.
Other browser on my computer does not have the same problem. I have also emptied Firefox's cache and it did not solve the problem.
    What's going on here?

I noticed this happens less often (or not at all, maybe) when you are not logged in with your Google account. Are you logged in to Google, or maybe Google+ even?
When I'm logged in to Google+ and click a search result after using the searchbar in Firefox, I get to see the Google homepage. Clicking the Back button brings me to the page I visited before using the search bar, not back to the search results.
It's definitely an annoying workaround to log out just to be able to click search results, but it could help isolating the problem.
Also, you can open the search results by middle-clicking them and opening them in a new link. Not a solution either, but less annoying than restarting the browser. ;)

  • Is there a way to make Search Bar results appear in a new tab (as opposed to in the current tab)?

I'm new to Firefox, but find it a vast improvement over IE. I just find it cumbersome to have to open a new tab before I use the Search Bar...I would much prefer an option akin to "Search results appear in new tab."
    Thanks for the help!

    Edit: I found it.
This preference can be changed using about:config
    (1) Type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter (click the button promising to be careful, and please do be careful!)
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''search''' and pause until the preferences are filtered
    (3) Double-click '''browser.search.openintab''' to change it to true. You're done, you can close about:config now.
    --- --- Earlier Text --- ---
Are you a keyboard person or a mouse person?
Using the keyboard, after typing your query, hold the Alt key while pressing Enter to open the search results in a new tab. This also works in the address bar: when you type the name of a new site, hold Alt when pressing Enter to open that site in a new tab.
Using the mouse, hold the Ctrl key while clicking the magnifying glass icon.
Is there a way to ''always'' open search results in a new tab without having to use Alt or Ctrl? Hmmm, maybe, I haven't researched that.

  • Non appearing report search results

I'm using html db version 1.5 and I'm having difficulty with the search result from a report region.
This problem doesn't always occur, but on occasion for no apparent reason, sometimes the search results don't display on screen, but the record counter indicates that there are records and the records are exportable. Usually users have to restart the application and then it does back to normal.
I would appreciate any insight you can pass on.

Try resetting pagination when submitting your search, see the following posting for more information:

  • Certificate error pops up from Google search results page

    Hi,
I wanted to find out more info about a certain company, so I typed the name on Google. When I clicked on Search (not I'm feeling lucky!) the search results appeared, but I immediately got a pop-up saying the certificate for the website of the company in question was not valid:
    "Secure Connection Failed
www.mvfaccount.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
This could be a problem with the server's configuration or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
If you have connected to this server successfully in the past the error may be temporary and you can try again later."
But the thing is: I hadn't even clicked on that search result! The warning appeared while the search results page was loading.
I find that unsettling because it makes me wonder: does Firefox visit the websites before I visit them?
And before you ask: no, I'm not a customer of that company (Maple Valley Financial) nor did I ever visit them before.
    Thanks,
    Sergio

I'm not sure how this could be a Firefox setting, but I would try the "usual" first:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference? If that helps, it could be that you selected to block that element in one of your add-ons.

  • Why is there extra space above google search results?

When I do a google search, an excessive amount of white space appears above the search results, requiring me to scroll down the page to see even the first choice. Only started happening today.

It's autopager. Don't do all the stuff above.

  • Blue-Unformatted search results

I've asked this question before, but hope that maybe someone has some new ideas/thoughts on the subject for me.
All WebHelp Pro projects that me or any other tech writer publish to the RH 8 Server (using RH 8) have one thing in common...
the search results are small, NEVER formatted, and appear in bright hyperlink-blue. If we were to publish them as regular WebHelp to our local machines the search results appear nicely formatted, in larger white font. The bright blue hyperlinks are near unreadable and we cannot find any solutions for our issue. Any help would be much appreciated. Any server settings that would cause this to happen??

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Setting Custom Master page in search results page - Publishing site

    Hi,
I have a publishing site, in which i have a custom Master page.
However when doing the search in the site, the search results does not show the custom Master page.
Is it possible to set the custom created Master page for the search results page? How to achieve this?
    Thanks

    Hi Venkat,
The search page for a publishing site is a file available in the layouts folder (I believe it is the osssearchresults.aspx if you see the address bar). It is used by all web applications and site collections in your farm. So ideally you should not change
it. I mean you can change it to point to your master page but it is bad practice ..
I would instead do the following
    1. Create a custom search results web part page and place it in the site collection itself (one of the document libraries)
    2. Custom search results is not difficult because all search results pages are made of a set of Out of the box search results web parts. If you add the same webparts to your page as the default search results page, you have effectively created a copy of
    it
    3. go to site settings --> search settings and change the search results page to your newly created page
    4. The newly created page by virtue of its location will automatically use the master page the rest of the site uses.
I could not spend the time to try the above for you but I am sure the above will work.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Partha

  • Verity search results return application.cfm

We've got a couple of sites using verity collections to
search cfml, html, and some mime documents. This is generally
successful. However, we do see coldfusion script-only pages
returning in the search results, including application.cfm, and
other cfm pages that do not display content to the end-user. Since
there is no HTML renderable content in these pages, why do they get
    included in the results?
How can I control this behavior? I've looked at the verity
documentation, and am trying to use the mkvdk utility to delete
application.cfm from the collection documents, but am getting an
error. If I can get the syntax down correctly, is this the proper
    way of addressing the problem?
For instance, I am using the command string:
    mkvdk -delete -collection
    C:\CFusionMX\verity\collections\intranet\file application.cfm
on my local development machine to try and test this, but get
    an error BadKeys: application.cfm
I don't understand why these types of files get included in
the collection in the first place. Oh, we are running CFMX6.1.
    Thanks for any help.
    Kris

The issue is not how to remove all CFM files from the
collection. We just want CFM files that do not output anything to
the user to be excluded from the search index. Most of the files in
this site are CFM files. Most importantly would be application.cfm,
form action pages, and other included files.
Certainly we could parse the results for a filename in a
predefined list, but we are trying to avoid defining this
programmatically; thinking that it is odd that these files get
included in the results at all. In the past we have segmented sites
using .cfm and .cfml as a way of excluding specific files from the
index (in the collection definition, we would not include the
specific extension as required). But this site has been in
production for some time, and is just now adding a search feature.
We don't want to rename files, and have to recheck every single
page and link in the entire site.
Does that explain what we're trying to do better?
    Cheers,
    Kris

  • How to redirect search results to a webapp detail page

Hello there, I am in the process of creating an interconnected series of webapps and I am trying to get the list view of one webapp to display on the detail view of another webapp. This is a bit difficult due to the fact that the webapps are dynamic and users will be submitting them.
Here is essentially what I am trying to do:
On the list view of webapp#1 I have a hidden form, that when submitted should display the search results of webapp#2 on the detail page of webapp#1. In order for this to work I have redirected my search form results as such:
As you can see I have replaced the redirect URL with that of the detail view of webapp#1. This method of redirect has failed to work, when the search is performed I am redirected to a 'page not found' page. I have discussed it with BC Support and they say that it cannot be done in this way. If there is anyone out there who has an idea of how to go about this, I would be grateful. Unfortunately the best way to get my desired results is to submit a search for the relevant itemid that displays a list of the correct webapp items. I also cannot create an inline search for the results directly on the detail page of webapp#1 because I don't want the page to reload. If you know of a way to achieve what I am trying to do I would be grateful.
Thank you for any and all help!

    Hi Prakash,
SharePoint indexes each list item with the display form of the items in the lists.
Although the web part is added to the page, the items in the web part are still be indexed from the original list. That is because the web part is rendering the items from the database where the original list stores.
So per my knowledge, we can only get the list items with the display form in the search results.
    Best regards.
    Thanks
